Rise of TMNT. I like the uniqueness of the turtles being different species of turtles
Ben 10 Omniverse. Crazy people praise every other DJW work but this one gets hate. OV has my favourite artstyle and it's close to Wolverine and the X-Men artstyle
Edit:
Wildbrain Ninjago. The animation and character models are well made and smooth compared to the first 7 seasons and even if you don't like the newer seasons you have to admit, it's a bit of an upgrade, I like the Spinjitzu actually reflecting their elements rather than just a recolour of the same spinning animation. Even their model changes are because they got older, as explained in S8 so there's nk need to hate it.
SAME! I never loved anything TMNT much before Rise. It was more of a passing thing that I sometimes tried out. Rise is something special, I can tell you that! GOD I want it to come back! We should all stream the movie on August 5th and pretend that it's the first time we're seeing it, tweet about, put it up on social media and act like it just dropped.
Going first; I never understood the hate the style of Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed got back when it came out. Yeah, it was radically different from the original shows style, but that didn’t make it bad. I actually thought (and still think) it looked gorgeous with the more woodblock textures, the dynamic environment shading and the use of 3D. even if the special itself had its flaws, I think the art-style was the best thing about it.
It's 2014. Dance Pantsed has come out, and people are complaining about the art style. "It's too different!" they say. "It should have looked more like the original style!" they say.
A finger on the Monkey's Paw curls shut.
Two years later, PPG 2016 is released.
I would happily take a reboot with the same art style as Dance Pantsed and the original cast over PPG 2016.
Anybody who creates a self-insert OC to ship themselves with a kindergartener, or writes a scene depicting said kindergarteners twerking whilst under hypnosis needs all their electronic devices confiscated and forensically examined by the FBI.
FWIW, I recall the self-insert claim being a false rumor, and was apparently more of a writer’s room injoke that didn’t translate well to audiences. I don’t believe any of the writers for the PPG 2016 reboot genuinely intended on shipping a self-insert OC with one of the underage main characters, it just unfortunately appeared that way. Not to defend that godawful reboot by any means btw, the hate it gets is well-deserved regardless.
There was nothing stopping them from doing it with an adult character. Just a one-off love interest for an adult woman.
Like imagine this very evil woman. She has no remorse, no sympathy, and no care for the world, but somehow, she ends up dating this nerd looking normal guy for absolutely no reason. That would have had the potential to be funny, but what they did instead... it's not even a joke. It's just shipping a fictional kid with a real-life adult.
I agree that the original “joke” fell flat on its face, and the only ones at fault for how it was misinterpreted are the writers who were too lazy to even think of another punchline. That whole reboot reeked of uninterested and downright abysmal writers that could not care less about the integrity of PPG as a children’s cartoon.
All I ever needed to hear about that failure of a reboot was that Craig Mccracken was not involved whatsoever.
It also doesn't excuse the scene in Painbow where Blossom and Bubbles start twerking whilst under mind control.
The fact that a Cartoon Network producer greenlit that scene is gross.
I remember seeing previews but expecting that art style in 2d and I got into littlest pet shop because the first clip I saw from it I thought was an early leak of the new ppg thing
I actually enjoyed the art style itself. But something with the animation was really weird. It was almost like there was a motion blur over the entire thing and it made me nauseous looking at and I just had to turn it off.
Never seen this but I *love* it. I grew up with the original PPG and this, while like you said, very different, is such a gorgeous interpretation of the 50's styling the original was clearly inspired by.
Reminds me of when Wind Waker got announced back in the day and people rioted over the cell shading. These days it's celebrated as one of the best looking Zelda games of them all.
Dude, the classic mid-1900s storybook style is amazing! Sure the show isn't in full 3D like the movies so there's a significant change, but I'd rather have high quality mostly 2D animation to the budget 3D animation most tv series get, that would look like a significant downgrade from the movie.
Exactly, it reminds me of a children’s book and I LOVE IT!! In fact, it reminds me of this children’s book illustrator that illustrated all of these amazing Marvel children’s books, I could buy the illustrations as framed artwork alone!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=deVfJiaKHlk
I wonder if that same person worked on the show because the artstyle is near identical!
Wildbrain Ninjago, idk how many still do but I have seen a few, but come on, I think that’s the best animation for ninjago (besides the oni trilogy) as well as some really fast paced and cool fight scenes that remind me of the Star Wars prequels lightsaber fights
Speaking of Star Wars, rebels has decent animation, it’s just some of the weird redesigns that makes it a lot less appealing to look at
>Wildbrain Ninjago
Yeah this one too. The animation and models are better than the original it's just the story that lacks a bit but people are stuck in their nostalgia and blame it on the movie
I honestly found the wildbrain era to be the peak of ninjago with oni trilogy coming close, as besides the animation and fight scenes, I did enjoy most of all the seasons concepts (minus season 14 a bit, but not too much, and yes, this includes seasons 11 and 16)

My fav part is when they all say yeah
American Dragon's season 2 art style.

Because he’s only half chinese. Luong Lao Shi for example still has his fully chinese design
In fact you could argue that the season 2 redesign is indicative of him becoming closer to his Chinese heritage
For sure. But that's an European looking Dragon, might actually. Been cooler if he started out looking oriental and then adapting to his change of identity.
I dunno, I just couldn't get over it. Some of the main cast look fine enough, but then others got entirely overhauled like the Oracle Twins.
https://preview.redd.it/ismsvrnnc94d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=a7e724a55e06b47f79a393dc2c06ebf7ba657269
They don't even *look* like twins now lmao
I would have preferred the 2016 reboot to have that style, so people don't confuse the reboot with the original version. You don't know how many times I've seen compilation videos of "cartoons from the 90s-early 2000s" and they always show clips from PPG 2016 😩
I actually appreciated that it went out of its way to look so different. Also cause I love the lighting and seeing the girls rendered in a different style.
It's just pleasant to look at.
Because besides the obvious writing quality problem, the reboot has an uncanny valley issue in that it looks so close but is still off. And I mean even just the original cast.
style is cool, but PPG is one of those things where they can look awkward as hell if you're not following strict design rules.
Which nobody really seems to care about other than the original team.

I haven't watched Tuca and Bertie, Alf Tales or Kiff. But the rest I've seen and they're good
These are mine
Ben 10, Ninjago, OK KO, Rise of TMNT, Danny Phantom, Monkie Kid, Invincible

(sure, i didn't like the art style either as a kid, but now i love it)

Original ponies were far superior to the flat looking ones we have now
I like the g4 designs, but i have a soft spot for these almost 80-anime looking g1 cartoons (probably looks that way since the cartoon outsourced its animation to Toei, the studio who did Dragon Ball and other iconic anime).
kinda makes me wonder what the other cartoons would look like if they leaned into that anime inspiration as opposed to the more western/disney inspiration the later cartoons like g3 and g4 had.

I think omniverse looks good overall but some redesigns aren't my favorites.
Yeah I admit some are downgrades from the original
Rise is my personal favorite take on the tmnt
SAME! I never loved anything TMNT much before Rise. It was more of a passing thing that I sometimes tried out. Rise is something special, I can tell you that! GOD I want it to come back! Agreed on both OV was so expressive

It reminds me of those Little Golden Books I read as a kid.
I also thought it looked pretty cool to me
Man, I really only heard about that drama vaguely. I can't believe there were actual purists for the art style of the original ppgs
I remember seeing previews but expecting that art style in 2d and I got into littlest pet shop because the first clip I saw from it I thought was an early leak of the new ppg thing
First time I've ever seen this. Definitely looks a whole lot better than some other stuff.
I actually enjoyed the art style itself. But something with the animation was really weird. It was almost like there was a motion blur over the entire thing and it made me nauseous looking at and I just had to turn it off.

Does artstyle of the Tangled: Animated series count? I remember people hating on a similar style.

I don't know why, but the art style is giving me Invader Zim vibes!
American Dragon's season 2 art style. https://preview.redd.it/i9pqqbj7r84d1.jpeg?width=564&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e1e344393a907b117e43deb739ad97251565c4c
Idk why people even really hate season 2s art style compared to the first season. It's barely different. It's still recognizable as the same show
I mean… https://preview.redd.it/mnv2jcrec94d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6ac41857868b8103de8c2bd6f8dec3a2fcaed3d
Where his muscles go
It was an attempt to make his dragon design a little more Chinese. I honestly like it
Still has wings
Because he’s only half chinese. Luong Lao Shi for example still has his fully chinese design In fact you could argue that the season 2 redesign is indicative of him becoming closer to his Chinese heritage
Unpopular opinion, but I liked how much more fluid and dynamic the design looked in season 2.
Maybe they could have given him different forms, but the reality is that the right one looks more like an oriental style dragon.
Kinda ironic when they call the show American dragon lol
For sure. But that's an European looking Dragon, might actually. Been cooler if he started out looking oriental and then adapting to his change of identity.

Yeah, this was the only thing that bothered me. They don't even look like they're related to each other.
Me too I always liked the look of season 2.
I would have preferred the 2016 reboot to have that style, so people don't confuse the reboot with the original version. You don't know how many times I've seen compilation videos of "cartoons from the 90s-early 2000s" and they always show clips from PPG 2016 😩
It would be cool if it was like a special
I actually appreciated that it went out of its way to look so different. Also cause I love the lighting and seeing the girls rendered in a different style. It's just pleasant to look at. Because besides the obvious writing quality problem, the reboot has an uncanny valley issue in that it looks so close but is still off. And I mean even just the original cast.
This art style looks pretty fun for a short film but I'm not sure if it's good for a series.
style is cool, but PPG is one of those things where they can look awkward as hell if you're not following strict design rules. This was an acid trip.
Omniverse
I actually love the art style of fan boy and Chum
Fanboy and Chum Chum 🗣🗣🔥 Peak Nickelodeon
I thought u would hate fanboy and Chum Chum
Are you kidding? I was mostly a CN kid but if I were to watch Nickelodeon it would be cuz of Fanboy and Chum Chum. I honestly liked it more than Jimmy Neutron
Would u like to hear my favorite shows
Of course
Ben 10, tuca and Bertie, hazbin hotel, helluva boss, amphibia, kiff, and alf tales
I haven't watched Tuca and Bertie, Alf Tales or Kiff. But the rest I've seen and they're good These are mine Ben 10, Ninjago, OK KO, Rise of TMNT, Danny Phantom, Monkie Kid, Invincible
I love rise of tmnt too
No I Don’t ![gif](giphy|4A9OdSBLYlfKE) .

Agree like g4 seem okay but now idk seems like to bright and in your face
Flash animation is incredibly easy, that's why it's sp oversaturated atm.
Teen Titans Go
I’ve got a friend who really hates Food Chain from adventure time. Is that a popular opinion? Because I think it was great. (Also water park prank)
I actually prefer this PPG design over the OG, it feels like an upgraded art style that gives the girls shading and a dynamic look!
Omniverse, at first I hated it, but now I love it
That PPG art style actually looks kinda sick. But Rise of TMNT. Definitely for me
![gif](giphy|XgDqBHTpffV6zTQZdn|downsized) No one seems to like Earthspark’s style for some reason
Never seen this version of the ppg but I like it.
I've not seen this before and I really love it. It almost fits the style more and makes them look less like bugs.
I'm very sure this doesn't fit
I get why it was initially hated, but Transformers: Animated’s artstyle fucks, dude.
reminds me of the nimona artstyle

I think everyone can say they hate the art style of Big Mouth.
I agree with you
