My guy is really large and long, so he was jumping up on surfaces pretty well. It looked like he was taking longer to calculate his moves though. I watched him and was ready to catch him if he missed the landing on his perch.
Our Smokey had the same donut! Unfortunately she's crafty and removed it in a few minutes. Then she made aggressive eye contact to make sure we understood it wasn't going back on 😂

The vet thinks Iris is allergic to something, so she has a donut to reduce scratching. As you can see, she was not thrilled about this development. She still walks funny when wearing it, but I think she likes having a pillow.

Awe my kitty has allergies too. She’s allergic to seemingly everything; even her own dander! She’s on immunotherapy now which has helped but it costs an arm and a leg. Hopefully your kitty doesn’t need to go down that route.

I recommend doing an elimination diet, unless you moved or switched detergent or something recently. My vet kept insisting it must be environmental since I hadn't changed my cats food, but then I finally saw a specialist who told me that food is the largest cause of allergies in cats and they can develop food allergies later on in life. He scratched so bad he had scabs everywhere and got super depressed with everything I tried (cone, surgical suit, claw covers, etc). All I had to do is feed him food that was made with rabbit cause he's never had that before for a couple months and that made it super easy to figure out he is allergic to poultry.

Smudgie didn’t mind his either, but it didn’t keep him away from his sutures, so I had to keep him in the cone ultimately. This was last year, he’s fine now. Had an abscess on his leg.
It depends on the cat. Our Mr. Hutchinson is a leggy and very athletic boy, so he was able to contort around his donut to keep kicking his chin to shreds. Into the cone with him for now!
PS: in a different incident, he was grooming his tummy raw because he was having a digestive ouchie; he tolerated the donut just fine, but his response to a onesie was to immediately figure out how to peel it off himself by slithering out the leg holes (looking outraged and betrayed the whole time).

We switched to a surgical onesie.
Oh no!! I'm glad you found an alternative that worked for your girl! My cat's stitches are on his ear, but I would be interested to try a onesie for anything on his torso if the situation arises... if I can find one big enough!
here is our Lady Naomi modeling hers. she literally couldn’t deal with her neck being restricted that much, she flipped her absolute shit every time we tried. she insisted on trying to lick open her spay sutures though, so, she was left with no choice but to have something….
she loved her onesie and it was the cutest thing in history. we had to size her up, so here’s to hoping you could find one if you needed to!

We used the same one for a day but unfortunately he was too flexible and could still lick his neuter stitches
My boy's stitches are on his ear and he can't get any of his limbs to reach his face. He could probably reach his back paws because he's very long, but the rim is thick enough that it's very difficult and awkward to even attempt to reach anything else.

I had one for my cat after surgery but she kept dipping it into her water bowl and it got super heavy and soggy. I ended up getting little spay suits for her which were even more adorable.
I like pillow collars over cones as well because my cats have a hard time reaching their food and water in cones. With pillow collars, it’s not a problem at all

This is our boy Newton (left) and his sister Fig (right). He’s been struggling with overactive eosinophils that are causing an ulcer on his tummy. This watermelon (and the sprinkled donut alternate) is by far the best option for keeping him from licking on his wound. He’s finally almost healed and while he’s tolerated the various collars and donuts, I think he’s ready to be free.

My dog kept getting out under the fence so we got him one until the fence was fixed
Got one of these for my kitten when he had to get surgery. He hated it. But since he's so small, this type of collar allowed him to move better than with the big plastic cone.
We got one of these for our SIC and she still uses it as a toy/pillow.
It became so popular her ginger brother and void sister demanded fruits of their own.

I got one of these and my cat was too smart for it. She figured out how to rip it off fairly easily. I had to switch her to a regular cone. But they are a cute option if they work for your cat!

I tried the pillow collar with my cat, but it made her skin condition worse. I think the material wasn't breathable enough for her. It gave her a nasty rash. For some reason she kept her legs straight, maybe because she couldn't see her front paws so had to overcompensate. I promise I never laughed at her.* She'll still sometimes snooze cozied up to her donut so it couldn't have been all that bad! * I laughed and I laughed a lot
My guy is really large and long, so he was jumping up on surfaces pretty well. It looked like he was taking longer to calculate his moves though. I watched him and was ready to catch him if he missed the landing on his perch.
But he still has to give you a grumpy look to uphold his cat street cred.

Awe my kitty has allergies too. She’s allergic to seemingly everything; even her own dander! She’s on immunotherapy now which has helped but it costs an arm and a leg. I recommend doing an elimination diet, unless you moved or switched detergent or something recently. My vet kept insisting it must be environmental since I hadn't changed my cats food, but then I finally saw a specialist who told me that food is the largest cause of allergies in cats and they can develop food allergies later on in life. He scratched so bad he had scabs everywhere and got super depressed with everything I tried (cone, surgical suit, claw covers, etc). All I had to do is feed him food that was made with rabbit cause he's never had that before for a couple months and that made it super easy to figure out he is allergic to poultry.

It depends on the cat. Our Mr. Hutchinson is a leggy and very athletic boy, so he was able to contort around his donut to keep kicking his chin to shreds. Into the cone with him for now! Oh no!! I'm glad you found an alternative that worked for your girl! My cat's stitches are on his ear, but I would be interested to try a onesie for anything on his torso if the situation arises... if I can find one big enough!

My boy's stitches are on his ear and he can't get any of his limbs to reach his face. He could probably reach his back paws because he's very long, but the rim is thick enough that it's very difficult and awkward to even attempt to reach anything else.

Satya hated hers mostly because she couldn’t put her head on my hands or such when cuddling. Since her stitches were on her head I discovered a face mask fits a cats head perfectly. I had one for my cat after surgery but she kept dipping it into her water bowl and it got super heavy and soggy. I ended up getting little spay suits for her which were even more adorable.

I like pillow collars over cones as well because my cats have a hard time reaching their food and water in cones. With pillow collars, it’s not a problem at all
I noticed this, too! I have a slightly elevated plate for his food and a taller water fountain, and he could access those just fine.

She fell behind the washer and cut her paw pretty badly. We rush ordered this cone, and she would fall asleep in the sink using it as a pillow. She'd get a little fussy whenever I took it off.

He’s been struggling with overactive eosinophils that are causing an ulcer on his tummy. This watermelon (and the sprinkled donut alternate) is by far the best option for keeping him from licking on his wound. He’s finally almost healed and while he’s tolerated the various collars and donuts, I think he’s ready to be free.

Got one of these for my kitten when he had to get surgery. He hated it. But since he's so small, this type of collar allowed him to move better than with the big plastic cone.
We got one of these for our SIC and she still uses it as a toy/pillow. It became so popular her ginger brother and void sister demanded fruits of their own.

I got one of these and my cat was too smart for it. She figured out how to rip it off fairly easily. I had to switch her to a regular cone. But they are a cute option if they work for your cat!

I pre-ordered this collar because my boi was going to be neutered, and I wanted it ready for when he got home. THIS boi acted like he hadn’t just had MAJOR surgery and proceeded to parkour on the living room furniture. Managed to wiggle out of his cone TWICE the same night.
My cat has an aural hematoma that we’ve been letting heal on its own but may have to resort to surgery eventually. Does it keep him from reaching his ear completely?
I tried the pillow collar with my cat, but it made her skin condition worse. I think the material wasn't breathable enough for her. It gave her a nasty rash. If you are trying the pillow collar out for the first time make sure you monitor the neck area of your cat, we didn't notice it was a problem for a while, and I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must have been for her.
These are much better than the plastic cones

How well do they block cats from licking themselves? My orange braincell will occasionally try to lick his inner elbow raw, so he gets grounded to the cone every few months... 😩
