It will help Maresca starting out that he has Cole and Lavia to vouch for him to the squad

Drewskibroho

And Sterling and Drewsbury-Hall if signed

epicmarc

Would Sterling know him that well? Pretty sure he only was part of the City first team staff after Sterling already left.

Maleficent_Permit_62

Not like they're in the same building right? /s

Howyoulikemenoow

Lavia hasn’t even played for us, not sure he’d have much sway on the dressing room

Ok-Constant-6056

Not sure why being injured would prevent him from fitting in. Lavia actually is rated highly in the squad and there’s already interviews out there with some of them being excited to watch him this season.

asdfplazkar

Literally like Marcus Bettinelli is one of our Locker Room Leaders 💀

BigReeceJames

Bettinelli is constantly training with everyone, constantly travelling and always on the bench so actively there for every match day as part of the game. Someone who has been injured will eat in the same canteen and travel with the squad for some games, but not be involved. It's not remotely the same

KickBallsLikeDrogba

Not to mentioned he’s been around the block and is good mates with Reece and Chilwell who already have influence in the dressing room

Howyoulikemenoow

He might not be around the first team, he won’t be training with them etc

Apprehensive_Bit_176

So Palmer on the right, Jackson at striker, leaves us with questions at LW for forwards. Some combo of Enzo, Caicedo, and either Lavia, Gallagher, or Dewsbury Hall at mid. A back 4 of Gusto/James, Colwill, ——, and CuCu. That second CB slot will depend on how healthy Fofana is, I think they could be a great pairing, but I can see Disasi or Tosin there to start the season. Sanchez or Petro in net?

SubparCurmudgeon

> leaves us with questions at LW for forwards. Poch: hehe chilly hehe

Sw3atyGoalz

I imagine it’ll be Nkunku on the LW and he and Jackson will swap places every now and then

D_roneous1

Tosin probably slips into the RCB. He’s a city kid. Sanchez is possibly the early favorite based on Enzo’s comments.

Apprehensive_Bit_176

I’m fine with Tosin, not sure on Sanchez… wasn’t convincing last year and cost us a few goals off his mistakes.

muddyleeking

I'm not particularly keen on him either and he definitely did cost us goals, but he was also a good shot stopper and saved a fair few as well

watermelonsmashr

I think petro is a better shot stopper and doesn't give away goals like sanchez. Yes he has his moments of miidiocre play but generally good. *t's the consistency that is missing for him. He also came from the MLS so getting adjusted to to the prem is a factor too.*

muddyleeking

True I don't disagree I just always want to give our players the benefit of the doubt where possible. I always felt more confident in Sanchez when claiming crosses etc as well

Roadies_Winner

We counting Chilly out already but not Reece?

Apprehensive_Bit_176

Reece came back healthy but got himself sent off. Chilly hasn’t looked like himself all year.

BlueDetective3

Reece got the surgery and has been good in limited minutes, red card aside.

I_deleted

Count out Reece? That man is built to dominate in the inverted back system

InsuranceAny4285

They’ve missed a similar amount of games and Reece is obviously better, being one of the best RB in the world

BigReeceJames

I can get behind someone who also sees that Palmer is better on the wing than at AM

Baisabeast

With someone like nkunku in our squad, palmer should absolutely Play right wing That central role nkunku is gonna thrive in with Jackson up top

BigReeceJames

Irrespective, he's just a much more influential player when at RW. Maybe when he's pushing 30+, is way more knowledgeable and slowing down, AM will be for him. But, for now it just restricts his movement and influence As for Nkunku centrally, I just don't see it under Maresca. He played with Dewsbury-Hall and a DM in the two forward midfield roles. He's buying Dewsbury-Hall, so where does Nkunku fit into his system? He's made clear that he's not changing his system at all and also it's now been reported by The Athletic that Chelsea are going to be buying players to fit Maresca's system and have dropped the idea of just buying anyone and him just having to make them work. I'd like to see us play with a true attacker, rather than three midfielders, but it doesn't seem likely from all we know and becomes even less likely with the chasing of Dewsbury-Hall

Frankiedrunkie

KDH is not going to start

Historical_Twist9969

Im just happy we bought a coach that has a tactic and style of play. Poch was more like unga bunga sterling/ cole palmer.

Mundane-Poet1404

Nkunku is definitely going to have to put a shift in at st, niko isn't that reliable. That's why we signed guiu and not a more experienced players because it's basically the 3rd striker spot

Apprehensive_Bit_176

I don’t think Nkunku gets in unless it’s at LW since Maresca plays 433 and will surely be using Caicedo, Enzo, and either Lavia if he’s fit or Gallagher.

Baisabeast

I don’t understand how everyone is so sure of how maresca will set up next season.

Wildely_Earnest

I think they should be watching his city team rather than his 1 year at Leicester if they want to draw conclusions about formation and player roles more rhan philosophy. But in either case, I think he will be adapting the squad too

oxfozyne

Why you going about making sensible comments?

kerbyage

Everyone has watched a couple of YouTube videos and is an expert now.

Apprehensive_Bit_176

Well multiple sources have said he plays 433 and refuses to change, even threatened to leave Leicester if they didn’t like it

Chef_Bojan3

He refused to change his philosophies/playing style and threatened to leave Leicester if they didn't like it, exact formation isn't exactly what he meant. He's switched between 433 and 4231 at Leicester I believe.

Epicfortnitegamer207

no he hasn't

Frankiedrunkie

Tactics and formations are two different things, Pep for example has used multiple formations but same tactics

Kella_o7

You guys do realize that Nkunku is a guaranteed starter if fit, right? Jackson, Palmer, Nkunku are basically shoe-ins. The only variations we should really discuss is what happens to Mudryk, Sterling, Madueke, Estevao and Paez.

reddit-time

Apparently, some people don't. I don't know how. Nkunku is top top class.

JJ-Bittenbinder

Maresca played 4231 as well last year

Apprehensive_Bit_176

That’s not what I’ve heard from multiple sources and podcasts

gh0st_

Flipping thru Leicester's formations and lineups, we can see that he has occasionally inverted the triangle and played 4231. Leicester vs Huddersfield was a 4-1 victory so it may be worth listening to pods or extended highlights about that match. I don't think he is tied to the formation as much as he is the philosophy. He attacks with 5, defends with 5, and in build up plays a box in the midfield and plays his wide players touchline to touchline to create space. Playing a double pivot means that he doesn't need to invert the fullback to create that box, and it allows one of his FB to get forward. I'm hoping he mostly plays a 343 with wingbacks bombing forward as that's the best formation for the best players.

Apprehensive_Bit_176

I wouldn’t mind that. What’s your 343 lineup look like? I hope chilly will be healthy enough to play wingback again, same with James but Gusto can play there if he isn’t.

gh0st_

Nkunku, Jackson, Palmer Chilly, Enzo, Caicedo, James Colwil, Fofana, Chalobah The backline is the toughest to sort out with Badiashile and (sometimes) Disasi. I can see Maresca using a back 4 and Cucu in the inverted role when James or Chilly are on their regular physio visits and use Gallagher (or maybe KDH) when they need more energy from the midfield. Gusto has proven that he can play on either side. Edit- There are a bunch of recent transfers that could change this. Tosin can easily slot in and a legitimate striker

sjw-ironically

It's gonna be Caicedo, Lavia, Enzo, Gallagher, Nkunku, Carney, Dewsbury-Hall (although I hope not). Santos Casadei and other prospects might play in between.

Forgohtten

Casadei wasn't even used by him at Leicester much in the Championship. Sadly the kid is nowhere near good enough.

sjw-ironically

Swap in omari for casadei.

I_deleted

Gonna be tough to switch in Omari since he’s sold to Ipswich innit?

sjw-ironically

Na, it's gonna be easy cz we bought another Omari. Keep up mate

I_deleted

Oh yeah the Villa kid… hard to keep up with all these teenagers

Flippin_inColors

No, palmer is insane at shooting the ball to the back of the net, his 1 v 1 is very good although not elite, and his playmaking is very good also but nothing out of this world, he should just be shooting at the goal for the 90 minutes to be honest.

mouse2102

Except he isn't. Goals and assists are about the same in the two positions but most of his goals when he played right wing are from penalties. More from from open play in the middle.

Aman-Patel

Think people are aware of this, we're just going based off having watched every game. There's been times this season where Palmer's having a kind of mediocre game, but at the end, the right winger comes off, Palmer goes out to the right and runs havoc. It isn't about him necessarily being in the spotlight and getting all the G+A. He just knows exactly what to do at RW, how to open up the game and get the team on the front foot. It'll be interesting to see how his career unfolds because I'm definitely on the side that RW is his best position. He's clearly very versatile and good in both. But if you just watch the games where he plays RW, he's always the best player on the pitch. Can't remember him having a bad game there. Whereas games like the City game in the FA Cuo stick out to me where Palmer can get marked out of the game if you play him in the middle. Play him on the right and he'll find the space to recieve the ball no matter what. And once he has the ball in those positions, he always knows what to do with it and is so comfortable beating his man. Think the people that pay lots of attention to the goal stats will say he's a better AM, but if you just watch every game and pay attention to when the team's in control and when Palmer's playing well, he's even better at RW imo.

Flippin_inColors

Palmer on the wings all day long, unless he has caicedo and gallagher behind, he lacks that defensive contribution to balance a team.

Flytrap98

Even when Cole played centrally, he would always drift right and overload the right side with Noni. Whether he plays centrally or right will make no difference cause he's equally as effective in both positions

Mundane-Poet1404

Yea and when playing on the right he would have the freedom to be more central, depends on if maresca gives him that similar role or if he wants the rw to just keep wide, try to beat thier man and spam crosses. In that case I'd prefer noni on the right because playing Palmer like won't utilise the best parts of his game fully imo

crashcoolnoob

Does this mean Palmer on the wing rather than at the 10, because he is so so much more dangerous on the wing, it feels like such a waste when he's playing the 10

GetCad23

If Cole likes him…I like him 🥶

Plus-Might-3701

He will grow more and more under his supervision.

BoomBoomBoom123456

‘He will improve a lot of the players’ is lowkey an incredibly funny thing for him to say

BendBoth8971

Oh look marsesca is a tatically adept coach, probably know more than most of us in this sub unlike poch. It doesn’t matter where he plays on paper - he plays in the right half space. If he plays right, you need someone to overlap him, if he start 10/8 you still need a right sided player

DamoDuff11

I agree with most here that Palmer is best on the right but it does make me worried with Paez and Estevao coming in 2025.

ThinCrusts

Might be a dumb question but has Maresca started the job or not yet? When do the players usually return back to training before preseason?

Delano3X

July

muddyleeking

Not sure about Maresca but I remember with Poch it was 1st July he officiallly started, so I imagine it'll be the same with Enzo. Maybe slightly different because of the Euros. Though obviously he'll be doing Chelsea related work now, watching last seasons games etc

jerrystuffhouse

The sub assured me that Cole was better centrally and that’s where he would happily play once Olise got here.

webby09246

The reports still say he's supposedly becoming a central player this season and the club see him as that Now whether that's changed post missing out on Olise we do not know, as to this post, it's just a very simple quote that means nothing from Cole about Maresca in his youth We'll have to wait and see but right now, Madeuke definitely looks like a more tight fit for a Maresca winger if it's going to be how he used wingers at Leicester

half_jase

>The reports still say he's supposedly becoming a central player this season and the club see him as that Pardon me for being cynical but not sure if they have a clue in what they want because they are seemingly stockpiling all these different midfielders and attackers and we still don't know who's leaving and who's staying etc.

epicmarc

He's excellent at both
