Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall: "It's amazing to be sitting here as a Chelsea player. This is a club people grow up watching and hoping to one day play for, so it's a privilege to be here. I'm really excited to get going and can't wait to show everybody what I can do." https://preview.redd.it/7v0b6lbx44ad1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f30c54f66332d7c960d9be7367eaa4bdd08b1f0

erenistheavatar

Maresca's system now has a lot of options which suit it.

Salty_Constant_9878

how is chilly so damn taller than KDH??

Biegelstein

according to wikipedia KDH is 5'10" whilst Chilwell is 5'11"

Easy_Increase_9716

How women see 6ft vs 5’11”

renome

No way is that a 2.5cm difference, Chilwell isn't even standing straight.

myheadisalightstick

You can’t see their legs, Chilly might be standing on something.

renome

y tho 😅

ThatWontFit

Yeah we're not seeing the shoes here. Lots of these new trainers add 2-4 inches.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThatWontFit

Yeah 4 is pushing it. I had to go measure. I do have a few Nike's that are 2 2/3 though. And if you look at their heads, where KDH ends at Chilly's brow that's about 3 inches left of Chilly's head. Which seems to fall in line with the inch height difference + 2 inch shoes.

THE_DROG

Or better yet, Google knows fuck all about players' heights

half_jase

Oh, Chilwell already back for pre pre-season?

Broesly

never left the physio room

half_jase

![gif](giphy|kZD8cN1MycfKw|downsized)

blue_jay26

Wow I remember him being much taller

ShaneLowrysBeard

Did we need him? Probably not. Is £30 million good value for a player of his quality? Absolutely. Do think he can offer something a little bit different and he's a steal at that price so hope he does well.

webby09246

>Did we need him? Probably not. If we sell Conor I'd say we absolutely did Chuk and Nkunku could very easily continue to be unreliable fitness wise and in that reality KDH is fantastic business Even then he offers that left footed midfield presence

erenistheavatar

And to add to that, Chuk is now being linked to Milan. So yeah, KDH will probably get a lot of minutes.

Adam_Ohh

Is he actually linked with them, or is it just “Milan want Carney on a loan with purchase option” from whatever random source that is janky and not reliable?

vmop07

Even if he didn't he hasn't been reliable at all

Apprehensive_Bit_176

Unfortunately I think this just about seals the Gallagher sale thought… now a question of to who and how much. I don’t like the idea of him going to a direct rival in either spurs or villa, who else has showed interest? Anyone abroad?

Nefari0uss

He could simply refuse to go elsewhere. With one year left, the negotiating power is with him. He's not gonna get benched the entire season.

ShaneLowrysBeard

If my aunt had wheels she would've been a bike!

I_deleted

Value is on the training ground with a season of Maresca’s system under his belt

Howyoulikemenoow

I thought we weren’t going to buy system players and would instead build profiles etc Seems odd we’re buying a player that after Maresca might be useless

human_administrator

Hes a legitimately good player with high technique, good forward passing, An eye for goal etc. If Maresca goes (which hopefully he doesn't) he'll likely be fine

Howyoulikemenoow

Just seems to go against our original policy. Hard to tell if his Chelsea quality after impressing in the championship at 26

kygrtj

For PL standards he’s a bang average english mid in every way possible. Physical, technical, etc. He’s gone if Maresca ever leaves. For context, Ross Barkley and Billy Gilmour are currently better midfielders and they weren’t considered good enough here.

CoventryClimax

Ouch

JJ-Bittenbinder

I know this isn’t the best way to judge a signing, but I went over to the Leicester sub and everyone was disappointed he was leaving. Normally that’s a pretty good sign

RJBlue95

Isnt he basically their Conor Gallagher?

JJ-Bittenbinder

I feel like I still see mixed opinions on Gallagher in this sub. I’m pro Gallagher but I definitely still see people that don’t think he’s good enough. I didn’t see any of that for KDH

RJBlue95

Sorry should have been more clear on what I meant, I meant more in the sense that he has been with the club forever, grew up there.

JJ-Bittenbinder

Oh yes, I think so

BenShelZonah

17 years at Leicester and was starting to play regularly in the premiership for them before relegation

HarryDaz98

Leicester sub is likely mostly local fans with an actual connection to the club, where homegrown players actually mean something to them. Probably about 10% in this sub, if that.

Massive-Nights

Seems like a made up reason to put down Chelsea fans that don’t agree with you.

JJ-Bittenbinder

I’m not saying you’re totally wrong, but there’s a huge difference between online fans and the fans that are actually going to games

Massive-Nights

The only real difference is anonymity. People like to think that the fan base they love or are a part of is somehow “different”. If the online folks were at a match, they’d most likely do the same thing “match-going fans” do. Oddly enough, I would be some money that some of the match-going fans that you believe are “different” are here…actually like the “online fans”. Yea, saying players “suck” and are “useless” and “awful” is easier on Reddit than around a group of drunk strangers.

HarryDaz98

Not really a put down. It’s just an acknowledgment of how different demographics in the fanbase see things differently. I don’t expect fans from all over to have a real attachment to a kid whose been a Chelsea fan all his life and lived down the road. They don’t follow Chelsea for the same reasons that the local fans who likely see a bit of themselves being represented in the squad when they see those lads coming through the ranks.

Massive-Nights

People do. I’d love to bring in folks from all over to see if people can spot the “match-going fan”. The real difference is people have different favorites, and different opinions on what makes the team better. I don’t have much attachment to Gallagher as a first-team squad member as we look to challenge for a league title. I do have attachment towards him as he came from Cobham and played for our first team. But as he became a “first-team player”, my thoughts switched to “is he helping us win titles again?” I’m fine if people answer that “yes”. I just don’t believe it. If he wants to sign a rotation contract extension, I’d love that. He’s never hurt, hustles, and presses great. But I also understand that he’s at the TOP of his ability to make money. So would I want Chelsea to pay him any wage to stay? No. So if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. I personally feel like I’ve been on the “keep” train for Reece James despite him being unable to stay healthy. As he’s been the academy attachment for me since RLC left. And McEachran before that. I also thought Bertrand Traore was going to be a star. Just because you have feelings towards a player that others don’t doesn’t mean those fans don’t have connections or deep roots or some might even be match-going fans.

SiggyyyPhidooo

Thats cause people in this sub are stupid and don't have any loyalty to academy players and would rather sign new shiny toys every season

Bozzetyp

Loyalty is sometimes blind I love conor, and all teams need a conor I would have prefered that we had 11 starters from the academy, but the short answer is they arent good enough Conor is a great 4-5th option in a 433 midfield, versitile, hard working and blue. But we have better players for a possesion style

mallutrash

well yes and no. KDH was literally the heart of their system and without him they would not have won the championship or found as much success as they did. conor however didn’t fit very well into the system and won’t fit moving forward either, but he’s still the heart of the club as he’s one of our own edit: i didn’t give that tag to reece or chilly for obvious reasons.

CookieTard

My best mates are all LC fans and seem to be pretty divided about it. Their biggest gripe with him has always been consistency, even in the championship this season, and they generally think he’s a bit overrated (though they do moan a lot!) I’ve been to a few games of theirs over the past few seasons though and he has undeniable quality. He is clearly a good fit for a hole we’d have in Enzo’s system. Sadly I just feel it cements that one of Gallagher or Chukwumeka are going to be sold.

Moving4Motion

Disappointed doesn't cover it. We are devastated. It's not even just KDH, it's the state the club is in. Chelsea have an absolute hard on for stripping Leicester of everything not nailed down and our club has been so badly run they are powerless to do anything about it. We are going into a Premier league season on minus points with a weaker squad than we started with in the champ. It's gutting.

dan_doe_91

Welcome Kiernan, I hope you win some trophies here and become a Chelsea legend along the way

erenistheavatar

>become a Chelsea legend 30-50M is usually the right price range for that. But let's wait and see if he reaches that level lol I feel it's a really positive signing.

Cjmainy

Nah, Azpi cost £8m

erenistheavatar

Yeah. That is one of the main exceptions. What a player Azpi was for us.

Competitive-Tonight3

So you're saying Captain Guiu in 7 years.

Cjmainy

I’m not saying that, but I’m sure we’d all love it if he proves himself enough to captain us!

_9tail_

It’s also had it’s fair share of stinkers to be fair: Bakayoko, Drinkwater and Koulibaly to name just a few

WY-8

£30 mil fairly well spent.

webby09246

I have a gut feeling he could be fantastic and way better than people are thinking

WY-8

I am of the same opinion, currently a system player with upside though, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

erenistheavatar

Yeah. At first, I was really apprehensive because of the quantity of midfield options we have. The more I watched of him, he might provide something we don't have.

Makav3lli

I liked him his last season in the Prem as well. A more technical left footed Gallagher in my eyes

rita_mita_bata

They have slightly different strengths though. Even if you look at their fbref profile or other stats, Conor is great at winning the ball back, interceptions and tackles, while his progressive passing and ball carrying stats aren’t particularly great. KDH is the opposite. His progressive passing and ball carrying stats are pretty good, while his defensive attributes are found a bit lacking.

Cashlover123

Thats where Caicedo comes in.

rita_mita_bata

Do you mean Ecuadorian Kante?

RasenRendan

Yung Kanté reincarnated 🙌

Makav3lli

Definitely agree with that analysis. His passing will shock some people

RasenRendan

I saw a fan call him Kova with finishing I think that's a better comparison than Conor

BogotaLineman

Yeah the way I've seen it put is that he and Gallagher are probably (roughly) the same level but KDH is a better fit for a possession style

rita_mita_bata

Imo possession sides that play a high line also need a player like Gallagher, which is why Spurs and Villa were looking to get him. If you play a high line and don’t have players who can win the ball back, it’s way too easy for teams to attack on the counter. Luckily we’ve got Caicedo who can do that as well.

half_jase

I mean, you don't necessarily need to have a specific player for that as long as the team is organized to press cohesively. City are an example. You don't see Guardiola playing a road runner like Gallagher just to win the ball back. They play and press as a unit and their team is filled with technical players. (I used City as an example since Maresca's playing style is very similar to Guardiola's and he's supposedly the diet Pep)

Slitted

That’s a great description. Gallagher with much more finesse, but he also doesn’t (need to) run half as much.

haaaaaairy1

He feels like a Gary Cahill type of signing.

admiralawkward

Also the price range for a lot of our successes. Think he adds a creative profile to our midfield which will be necessary since presumably the likes of Enzo, Lavia, and Caicedo will be used to sit deeper in a double pivot. Or possibly, if he uses Lavia as an anchor with a fullback inverting, think Hall will be a valuable shuttling 8 next to Caicedo or Enzo. At the very least, a homegrown rotation option with pre-existing experience under Maresca

RasenRendan

Not just creative. He SCORES goals. Remember when we signed lavia and ppl asked where would the goals come from between enzo caicedo and him?

Adam_Ohh

In 59 PL appearances with Leicester he has 3 goals. Who knows if he’ll produce more here, but let’s not act like he was Lamps in the midfield for Leicester in the prem.

RasenRendan

The player scored a lot last season under Maresca. In the EPL that was a different mgr different system. I choose to believe his form will carry

kygrtj

Gallagher would score 30 goals a season if he played in the championship That’s why it’s a lower league… It absolutely won’t carry. KDH has never been good enough to be a goal scoring mid in the PL.

RasenRendan

Lol come back to this in a year. Problem with y'all is you judge everything so quickly.

_fernweh_

The ~£30m pound club includes Fabregas, Costa, Willian, Hazard, and Kante, so definitely a historical sweet spot for us. Probably plenty of others I’m forgetting.

Pseudocaesar

You forgot the goat Danny Drinkwater for £35m

_fernweh_

No I deliberately left him out of my lineup, much like his final coaches

struwilkie

I think he’ll prove a lot of us wrong this season. Good addition to the squad imo

Rambo_11

I’m a simple guy, I see a Titus Andromedon reference in the wild, I upvote.

Key-Tip-7521

Why putting jinxes on this team?! Punishment: 10 point deduction and watch the MLS

Adam_Ohh

The technical quality is not as strong, but that doesn’t mean the MLS is a bad watch.

meverygoodboy

It's fucking awful lol If you're watching it purely from a comedy of errors perspective then ok, but otherwise there's very little there for a football fan

greeneggsnhammy

24/25 - “Continuing to undergo his rehabilitation program.”

banksfornades

Never underestimate the incompetency of our physios.

gdewulf

He just looks like a baller. Don't know what it is, I think he's going to be really good for us.

Apprehensive-Wealth4

And when we did it late we got lakaka lol

Small-Low326

The 30m sweet spot

erenistheavatar

Apparently, he's a vocal leader on the pitch as well as being someone who fully understands Maresca's system. This transfer wasn't exactly expensive either. So there can be a lot of positives in how he contributes.

JosephRizk21

*Insert clip of Gabby Agbonlahor picking Dewsbury-Hall over Kovacic*

Rathakatterri

We have successfully swapped one Omari with another this window and surprisingly one Hall with another.

sparkswillfly90

Is he good?

Last-Bit5658

yeah, quite a tidy player that never gets injured. 30m so thats where we make our best signings.

bingbongbang91

Chelsea's medical team will have something to say about that. See you in August when he gets injured.

Last-Bit5658

haha v true, hopefully not him, nkunku and carney at the same time tho.

JJ-Bittenbinder

You better knock on some wood right now

Last-Bit5658

wood has been knocked ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)

greeneggsnhammy

Chelsea FC - never injured? “HOLD MY BEER!”

RefanRes

>30m so thats where we make our best signings. £30M from Leicester. So far we have a 50/50 success rate on players from them in that sort of price range. I'm not saying hes Drinkwater but hes no way Kante. So the whole coming from Leicester where we got Drinkwater takes a little edge off the "£30M" story compared to signing a £30M player from somewhere like Villareal or Lyon.

kygrtj

As of right now he’s the definition of bang average PL midfielder The type to likely never get called up to the England NT Most midtable to lower table teams have them. Tidy in most aspects as they are PL academy trained their whole life, but no special attributes in terms of physical or technical skills.

BlueDetective3

A good buy. Slightly off-topic, but the training shirts look better than the actual shirts this year.

GolDrodgers1

Really excited to see him play👏

jimbeam07

The last time Chelsea did their business early when a Euro was going on, they won the league - just saying 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hy_Prix

“They”?. “We”!!!

rhaegaryen

Assna fans malding and coping in the soccer thread lmao

VE3TRO-R

Hilarious all these Drinkwater comparisons, he had issues that first season, injuries then wanted out but got denied and sidelined. Personal issues arose and he was battling alcoholism.

Redditditditdi

I watched Danny Drinkwater get a red card on a two foot lunge at a 16 year old in a PL2 match. It would take a lot for me to compare someone to him.

dantesvolition

So guys KDB is good, so H comes after B so this means KDH is better than KDB right guys

Zeus_The_Potato

Go back to sleep

onigramm

Happy to have him with us. He's another welcomed option in midfield!

embball13

So does this mean we are moving on from one midfielder? Is he more of a 8 or does play further up the pitch?

Nickdd98

Leicester fan here, in Enzo's system he was playing as an advanced 8. On paper it's a 4-3-3, but in possession it essentially becomes a 3-2-5, a with a full back inverting to form the 2 alongside the defensive mid, and the other two midfielders pushing up high into the half spaces. Wingers stay high and very wide so that the 5 covers the full width of the pitch.

Upstairs_Addendum587

Given we have been trying to move Conor already, I would expect this just increases our drive to do so.

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

Welcome. I wish you the best.

ArcherOfHk

Been fond of him for ages and going from having him run my midfield in fifa to playing in real life is surreal

ozairh18

I wish him the best

_fernweh_

This is another piece of shrewd business by the club. We’ve been crying out for years about having our managers backed (think Mourinho, Conte, etc.) so it’s good to see that here. He may or may not be a nailed-on starter for the long term but if he helps ease the squad’s transition to Maresca-ball and we can get some momentum out the gate we could be in for a really good season. I’m optimistic about this one.

sabershirou

English Juan Mata (Chelsea version) let's goooooooo

TheMightyPensioners

Welcome to Chelsea ~~Scott Parker, Steve Sidwell, Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley~~, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

GesticulatingPenis

Please don’t be Danny drinkwater

risingsuncoc

Kante also came from Leicester

oldschoolology

So did Chilwell.

eggsbenedict17

Did we really need another midfielder? We badly need a striker

prestel

That feels like Connor is on his way out.

Rathakatterri

Anyone who has watched him extensively, can you tell me who in our squad is similar to him and what he brings that’s new ? Thanks .

Last-Bit5658

havent watched him EXTENSIVELY per say, but hes a left half-space player (lcm attacking and progressive in nature looking for final third pass, also pushes into the left wide-space often giving flexibility for the lw to cut in centrally. Hes basically a more polished gallagher, offering more creativity. If you want to see how he plays for us, watch his game highlights against us last season when we faced lcfc.

Rathakatterri

Nice if he is really a polished Gallagher and on the left.

Last-Bit5658

i think its a good addition, our left side is so weak, it seems both chuck and nkunku have injury issues a lot so hes basically gonna be a good addition/cover.

RJLHUK

I am lowkey hyped about this. Really enjoyed watching bits of him last year

Slitted

A really great addition to the team. Didn’t think he would leave Leicester.

SloppyChops

I know nothing about him. Where does he play and how will he fit into the squad?

Nocturnal1017

11 midfielders. Problem solved

Miserable_Resolve173

I met his dad at the place I work and the journey he has been through to get where he is now I completely understand all of it. The fact he is now a Chelsea player is incredible and I hop he keeps the attitude he has to work to keep developing into a better and better player.

DJMOONPICKLES69

I think this is going to be a really solid signing. I’ve liked him since he debuted at Leicester and I’m excited to see how we use him.

Confident_Chef_4771

I think this can be good for maresca too. Having a player whom you found success with, join you in a new team can be helpful. He already has the experience of working with you and this might benefit players around him

costadoesntstomp

I'll just stick with KDH, somehow it's too difficult to learn otherwise

costadoesntstomp

we'll just call him KDH, we'll just call you KDH, Kier... we'll just call you KDH

DancingFish7

Why tf is chelsea signing every player on the face of the earth

superblackmagic

Am I the only one getting Drinkwater vibes?..

BabyScreamBear

Kevin De Huyne

duckinator09

Kdh passed my eye test even before Enzo maresca. Good signing but still not sure how everyone will fit. Plus good price!

theeama

The Hopium in this thread

highonfire123

I’m excited for this guy. I’ve typically been against the board signing’s but it’s nice to sign someone who looked good in the PL and then destroyed the championship, showing growth, for a reasonable fee. It also backs the manager as it’s obvious he was brought in because of how well they performed together. So far the board feels like they’ve finally gotten their shit together this summer window. All the signings have been good with the exception of overpaying for Kellyman, although I bet that was done to skirt around PSR

RasenRendan

This is gonna prove to be a excellent buy just wait and see.

Rj070707

Average, mediocore nothing player Just think of him as depth squad player and we move

highonfire123

He hasn’t even kicked a ball for us yet. He was Leicester’s best player for the past two seasons. If he can continue his trajectory with us then we’re going to get a player who’s definitely better than “mediocre”. Helps that we have the manager who helped him get 27+ g/a from midfield

Rj070707

Leicester fans don't consider him thier best player so where you getting this Information from??

highonfire123

Maybe some disagree but some do. At the very least he’s one of their best

Bozzetyp

Who do you want?

raulchik

For some reason, gives the same vibe as Palmer when he signed.

HarryDaz98

Really hope he does well, but I’m struggling to see the logic in forcing Mason Mount out of the club, just to go and buy this guy.

Massive-Nights

Not sure how Mount was forced? He had extensions on the table with Roman, then early with Boehly. When the new directors came in, they seemed to see him as not necessary for the wages he wanted. Offered him a bit of a “prove it” deal as he was looking for a massive payday while also playing really poor.

HarryDaz98

He just had 3 seasons of "proving it", the fact they only offered 1 year extensions tells me they only saw him as money to be made. He got offered not even half of what Havertz was on, despite carrying him for 2 years, why would he sign that deal? Offering a bad contract is just as much forcing someone out as not offering them one at all. We’re going to see a similar situation with Gallagher if he isn’t sold this summer aswell.

Massive-Nights

Ok. Forgot in sports as long as you proved it some other season but the recent one, all is good. Selling Mount was probably their best move they’ve made. Flipping him for Palmer and 10mil is hilarious. As for “carrying Havertz”. That’s just you making up stuff that you want to be true to further the point you’re making as I’m not sure how he “carried Havertz”.

abearghost

Can't help but feel this money could've been used a whole lot better. Well, hope he does well!

Danny Drinkwater 2.0

Introducing Drinkwater 2.0 - Another deadwood signing

BadCogs

Welcome to him. Sigh.

Coulstwolf

Drink water 2.0

matt3633_

Are we serious about challenging for the prem again or not? Because this is a mid-table signing at best, but I guess that's our level now

Baisabeast

With a flair like that you should know better Azpilicueta came from Marseille as a very low key signing and ended up becoming a legend Gary Cahill we bought from Bolton and he won nearly everything there is to win here. Liverpool bought Robertson from hull and he’s one of the best pl left backs ever now I can continue.

matt3633_

Even Leicester fans are saying he won't start for us.

ygog45

Ok well they’re wrong because he obviously will if Gallagher is off

matt3633_

Which means he's not good enough

ygog45

I only said if Gallagher is off because I didn’t want to be controversial and I assume like most that he is 100% off I think KDH is better and should start over Gallagher even if the latter stays

SERGEM10

Booooo you.

Superb_Worth_5934

Danny Drinkwater V2.0

Last-Bit5658

way to go with the positive attitude.

Superb_Worth_5934

He’s 25 and average as fuck. The fact everyone has positivity about us signing absolute mediocrity these days is delusion at its finest.

Last-Bit5658

MythicWayfarer

People who called Mount not good enough are cheering a player that has achieved fuck all in a longer career. Selling your own top young players to buy worse than them. Lmao. Clearlake project. Edit- lol burned ass people downvoting the fact. Same people that called Mount snake for club forcing him out, and now cheering a guy that literally mocked us in tweets. Piss fans. But I am being extra harsh here, he clearly will prove to be a decent signing for us, if not this season then next, considering his best quality is looking great in Championship with a PL level squad, top quality player and a signing made with longterm planning in mind by our genius board.

FantasticTangtastic

I can no longer tell who's a troll, who's an opposition fan, an who's just an idiot.

ApprehensiveUnit40

Yes

Last-Bit5658

yeah, we miss mount so much, ask the united fans how amazing hes been for them. Mount has become so injury-prone as well.

dan_doe_91

Have you watched Mount for the past two seasons?

endmoe

Have you watched KDH for the past two seasons? Dreadfully average, but I am not surprised to see you bootlick as usual.

You are spot on, but the boehlybots and the clownlake clowns will downvote you.
