I got 3 nails in one tire last year when I lived in Covington. The dude at the tire shop even asked if someone was mad at me. I'm almost certain I got all of them on Winston Avenue.
I lost one tire to the sinkhole that suddenly appeared on Langdon Farm Road and another to a nail in my sidewall...also on Langdon Farm Road. I don't drive that way anymore.
It was just as you round the curve approaching Montgomery Rd, last February. Took out multiple cars that whole day. It was a huge pothole. I just describe it as a sinkhole because of how large it was.
For what it’s worth I got my tires from Costco and I just went through this last week. They have a great warrant y program roadside assistance for the tire. They put a brand new tire I had a screw in it also. They will replace up to six tires.
Costcos return policy is great. I got a tower fan 4 years ago it stopped oscillating so when I returned two months ago, no recipe. Gave me a gift card for what I paid and got a new one. I had to pay the difference of course.
Not sure if this was sarcasm, but I'll bite. If there is concrete, they use screws to make forms. If there are curbs/bridges they also use forms. Also, if those folks working on the roads may not have forms and screws required for that specific job, their equipment most likely has screws on their truck for such an occasion where they required. Pulling your equipment off a work truck may sling a screw here and there or fall out of an equipment belt.
Source: Me, I worked on laying curbs/inlets for 3 summers when I was in my 20's working for Carter construction in Milford. Shout out to "truck six, steve"
I saw too many thumbs up for my liking, just wanted to set the record straight with a response to this.
That's from trash blowing out of pickups, when I was a younger roofer I didn't pack it properly and had an entire box of cap nails ( around 2500) fly out of my truck on 74 coming back from indy.. sorry guys I do better now
That is a drywall screw, damn carpenters. I was on a store remodel sitting in my care getting ready to go home. A carpenter walked to his car parked a row over from mine in the parking lot. He opened up his trunk put his tools in, closed the trunk then dumped all the screws he had on him on to the asphalt. Got in his car and left. I got out picked up the screws, walked back in shoved in his foreman's face and told him he needed to keep his guys from being such assholes.
Drywallers and framers are constantly pissing and shitting in 5 gallon buckets, bottles, and finished toilets/bathtubs that aren’t hooked up. They also take absurd amounts of meth/speed/crack/coke to frame and rock walls faster.
They are a savage trade and not in a good way, so this doesn’t surprise me.
I was a plumber. We would set fixtures and duck tape the toilet lids down. Even with all that and the fact that we kept the water off to the toilets, someone would shit in them. Then the superintendent would look at me and say they need to be cleaned. I would laugh and tell them tough shit.
East side - Wife’s car has 3 puncture flats in the last couple months, buddy had one. But there’s no debris in the tires…it’s like they’re installing nail strips out there now.
My truck has at least one screw in the tire that hasn’t leaked yet luckily. Worst year I can remember for flats.
I picked up a screw last summer. My tire didn't deflate. I noticed it while camping. I could hear the tickticktick sound as i slow rolled through the campground with my windows down. Thought it was rock. Nah... Carpenter screw. I screwed it the rest of the way in.
That was june. Its still there. I think i put air in it once due to paranoia before a road trip to michigan. Otherwise... All good. Lol
It's a growing city I deliver building supplies an there constantly building its making the look alot better getting more business in there its something we have to live with if you want a nice city but I did learn tho its from when it rains the water washes the nails an screws in the streets
I agree 100 percent they just need street sweeper around the big construction zones an the contractors should have them streets cleaned alot of places do do that but alot of them do care
95% of the nails/screws i get in my tire are the rear passenger side. i figured it might have to do with me doing street parking where i live since 99% of the time i’m parallel parking. i then got a magnetic bar on wheels and periodically sweep the area by my house. i’ve cut down significantly on the nails/screws i get in my tires.
great it seemed to make sense in theory and then i picked up a ton of nails/screws and haven’t noticed any screws/nails in a while. i also found there to be more on trash day. i also have “contractor” neighbors so loose nails/screws are common.
That looks like a drywall screw...
They don't use those in "road construction"...
In general - screws are not used at all, in that sort of work...
/just sayin'
I have been throughly informed that this screw is not used for road construction. Thanks everyone who took the time to be so helpful and contribute to the conversation.
i feel you. it made reading the thread exhausting. I belong to numerous cities boards here and Cincinnati's is by far one one the most passive aggressive cluster of bullies. Building contractors who dont live in the area dont give two shits about that stuff bouncing off their trailers and add in the resident haulers with used materials bouncing over the potholed roads.... I have sunk a large amount of money into new tires and I feel your pain. Learning how to plug your own for $7 and 5 min of labor was a life saver. I was spending so much time at tire shops and they were charging $25 to plug.
i was embarrassed at how easy it was. especially for screws like yours. Once i saw the YT vids, I became super angry at my tire guy as he was taking advantage of me. I had NO IDEA how cheap and fast and easy it is. Once you learn how, I think Murphys Law or something kicks in too, you wont run over another screw for years. <3
I am unsure. In my experience, I have always bought 4 new tires and the road hazard add on included. When I ran over a board with nails, and flattened 2 front tires, they replaced the two tires for free. So I would assume it covers all 4 tires. I’ve never tried to buy one tire with a road hazard plan. Not even sure if that’s an option or if it’s solely for 4 tire purchase.
Might depend on who from and what you actually purchase.
I'm convinced that I have been cursed by a very petty witch, because I get flat tires once a year at least. Nails, screws, *a whole-ass other tire in the road*, you name it.
Same, I had three nails in one tire causing a ow leak.
Good thing is it motivated me to look up how to do tire plugs! Easier than you think you just gotta put a half second into it, and in the meantime I've taken to always having a can of fix a flat in my car
Are used to work at a dealership on Dixie highway in Fairfield… there has to be someone tossing handfuls out the sunroof early in the morning. Literally every day 6+ cars with nails
The top part of 275 is awful for this stuff. Before I worked from home I would have to drive from the the Bridgetown area to Mason. Two different cars got the paint jacked up on the front end from all the dump trucks letting gravel and stuff fall out of the back. You could hear it hitting the car. Drove me nuts. They would have those signs “stay back XXX feet, not responsible for material thrown from road” or some bullshit knowing they’re the source of the things thrown from the road. I can’t believe it’s permitted.

Yeah, it's been awful, picked up 2 nails in my van, one in my personal. Thankfully the 2nd in the van was just in the tread and not all the way thru.

I had this happen a few months ago on my AWD truck. Unfortunately the puncture was close to the sidewall and couldn’t be patched. I was thinking I would have to replace all four tires, because they were at around 50% of life and you can’t put a new tire on a AWD vehicle with three worn tires. Fortunately I learned that The Tire Rack can shave a tire’s depth to match the others. I ordered a single tire from them, had it shaved to fit for an additional $30, and it worked like a charm.
Midas at the corner of Taft and Reading rd and Discount Tire on Colerain Ave fix issues (flat tires) like this for free. So save ya self some cash and visit them if you need flat tire help.
Major Tire on Glendale-Milford keeps a big jar of things they’ve pulled out of people’s tires. There is a screw, nail, and piece of glass in there from my tires :D
Yeah. I finally got around to getting mine patched at tire discounter a month ago. 3/4 were damaged. Two were patched and one had to be replaced $300 down the drain.
I have three different fasteners in one tire. I'm not losing any air and I'm not silly enough to pull any of them out. I do however carry around a bottle jack and 1/2" Impact with appropriate socket.
I got 3 nails in one tire last year when I lived in Covington. The dude at the tire shop even asked if someone was mad at me. I'm almost certain I got all of them on Winston Avenue.
I had to have 5 tires replaced in one year while living in Westwood. Road Hazard protection FTW.
There was a time last year where someone was intentionally dumping nails on Langdon Farm Road and I was thrice a victim.
Upvote for "thrice"

I have upvoted thrice.
There was someone doing the same in Sharonville last year too. :(
Wait really? I live close to there. Did they ever catch the perp?
Yes, I believe they did.
I lost one tire to the sinkhole that suddenly appeared on Langdon Farm Road and another to a nail in my sidewall...also on Langdon Farm Road. I don't drive that way anymore.
Where was the sinkhole? I drive that stretch a lot.
It was just as you round the curve approaching Montgomery Rd, last February. Took out multiple cars that whole day. It was a huge pothole. I just describe it as a sinkhole because of how large it was.
That was insane. I tried to get the city to pay for my flat, after over a year I heard back from them and got denied.
Just bad luck, has nothing to do with road construction
Maybe his neighbors are trying to tell him he parks like shit
Well considering I park in my garage…
Takes the air out of my theory
Ba dum… tss
Ba dum … tssssssssss FTFY

they owe you money, Im about to switch from Sams to Costco because of your post.

I switched to Sams for a year from Costco and am about to switch back. The quality of Costco products and their customer service is just far superior.

Bull. How do you think they get the stripes to stay in one place?
It’s taped onto the road…
I thought it was magnets…..
How do they work?
I don’t wanna talk to no scientist
I was going to ask if they are drywalling the highway?
Nope, just sheetrockin and rollin
That's from trash blowing out of pickups, when I was a younger roofer I didn't pack it properly and had an entire box of cap nails ( around 2500) fly out of my truck on 74 coming back from indy.. sorry guys I do better now
Was this summer/early fall of 96 by any chance?
Lol no around 2008

Probably garbage trucks

yes https://preview.redd.it/mtzb3pfng8ja1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f40434c3c7584f314b09814cc6b360de3f9f719f
That’s a sway bar link off a car.
Ah, so that's what it is. Never could figure that out. Happened near a construction zone so I assumed it was related to that
Glad I’m not alone. Was thinking these nails had it in for me.
I picked up a screw last summer. My tire didn't deflate. I noticed it while camping. I could hear the tickticktick sound as i slow rolled through the campground with my windows down. Life hack alert… I might try this honestly. I guess if the screw isn’t hitting the road constantly there is no reason the hole would get any bigger.
My tires are more plug than tire
[Yep.](https://i.imgur.com/PbdKGOx.jpg) Had to get all 4 tires replaced. Luckily tread was low enough to where I only had a few months left.
At least there’s a bright side there. I just leased my car a month ago. My previous car was a victim too.
100 bucks his or her garage.
On a positive note, that can be easily plugged. Looks like a drywall screw. Same has happened to me many times.
Went 10 years without a nail. And then I moved downtown and had 4 in the first year
Ouch, that’s gotta hurt the wallet.
I’ve had 3 in a year I’m over the potholes and the nails everywhere.
I got 3 in a year driving on 75 every day
Yup. Happened to me on Friday.
Damn. Great pic btw, but that sucks. At least you can patch it though.
Not in Cincinnati, but just paid $200 today for a new tire because of a nail in the sidewall. Feeling the burden Indianapolis too. You’re not alone.
Seems like every other time I get an oil change they hit me with "oh there's a nail stuck in a tire too"
It's a growing city I deliver building supplies an there constantly building its making the look alot better getting more business in there its something we have to live with if you want a nice city but I did learn tho its from when it rains the water washes the nails an screws in the streets

all 4 of mine are plugged. I am on my 3rd full set in 2 years. Its absurd. ABSURD.

If you live near a Discount Tire, they will patch it free of charge.
Get a Slime Plug Kit. Best thing to have.
Wow dude. Looks like brand new rubber no less! Shit luck, but easy plug.
Yea happened to my girl 5x from last oct til now. Crazy ass shit man
OP you’re not alone. Gets worse if you have run flat tires that can’t be fixed

Road work doesn’t require drywall screws…. Just saying

This is why I always buy the road hazard protection with my tires.
Dont you have to pay for each tire but only get covered for one? Doesnt seem like it makes sense financially

Got one on Thursday driving somewhere on 275 or 71
This happens to me on an almost regular basis in town. I used to get upset, now it’s second nature.

I have six work vehicles in my fleet and feel like I am constantly having tires repaired/replaced.
Just happened to my girlfriends car on Friday. Different screw though lol. *
Different type I should say, obviously not the same screw ha ha.
I don’t know, it could be the same vindictive little bastard.
Get the road hazard coverage when you get new tires. Worth it.

What kind of road construction uses Philips head screws? You're just the victim of negligent driver.
If you say so.

This why is use work truck grade tiers. There little thicker and plugging the hole holds better usually
Been there. So sorry that happened to you! It’s very frustrating.
Just yesterday driving through Bellevue right across the Ohio
What does road construction have to do with a screw in your tire?
I’ve addressed this in a previous comment.
There is >100 comments. I’m not reading them all.

I own a contracting company in Buffalo. My tires get punctured all the time from job sites. That's all. I feel your pain.
Yes! Twice in past few months for me as well.
I'm on first name basis with Major Tire after getting screws/nails in 3 of my tires and 1 on my wife's car
Yeah. I finally got around to getting mine patched at tire discounter a month ago. 3/4 were damaged. Two were patched and one had to be replaced $300 down the drain.
It’s the same thing everywhere in Ohio.
In tread, was it repaired or replaced?
I have three different fasteners in one tire. I'm not losing any air and I'm not silly enough to pull any of them out. I do however carry around a bottle jack and 1/2" Impact with appropriate socket.
Looks like you coulda used a new set anyways, dont think you’re supposed to be able to see that red on the tread(wear indicator marks)
Just leased it a month ago
Yes it’s fucked
which part of the road do they use screws on?
Drywall screws are not the result of road construction. JS
You’re far from the only one “just saying”. I’ve acknowledged my ignorance on this matter.
Someone who owns a very large magnet on wheels should start a business to help the owner of this violated tire.
Dangle some magnets in front of your tire if you feel that they are being extraordinarily violated. Jack handy thoughts
I go through a whole new set of tires every 6-8 months or so.
The fact that someone thinks a drywall screw or nail in their tire is from road construction is pretty funny tho.
