The 2h sword and the staff are equivalent to normal mode raid loot. They won't get replaced until heroic modes, and for example the better 2h sword is from Nefa HC which only a few guilds are gonna manage to kill week 1. The healer trinket has potentially even more lasting power, and if you out-gear it on your main you can always move it to your next alt that can use it.
I actually find archaeology really refreshing. It's like OSRS style leveling, you stick on a show or something while doing it and its almost therapeutic

I started leveling it and quickly realized i don't care, yeah yeah a potential staff but... christ man i don't really care, my guild is the definition of casual, like fuck the loot would just be wasted and i've already got the fossilized raptor mount in retail

Look at stuff like the Feldrake. A few whined about it turning into a Twitch drop and then it was over. You can say a Corrupted Ashbringer is a bit more heavy but not by that much. Retail is flooded with cosmetics and a ton of deleted cosmetics have come back already to Retail.

As im not sure they will rerelease WoD but who knows maybe they give it an other chance or rework it. 0% chance that ur progress just gets lost kekw they also dont give a fuak about the things u just mentioned only money and new players matters, people like asmongold also talks about a great reset. Nothing worth it for hunter AFAIK. It’s mostly 2h ppl, casters, and healers that want stuff.

There is one 1h axe and a helmet for hunter but they are for lower levels
