Warroad, Minnesota: AKA hockeytown USA. It’s located less than a half hour from the Canadian border, and has a population of just under 1,800. This small town has produced five NHL players, seven Olympians, and more than 80 (men and women combined) Division I hockey players. It’s also town that has become a dominant powerhouse in the Minnesota High School community with six state totals (four for the men’s team, two for the women’s team) over the past 20 years alone. Also no men’s U.S. Hockey Olympic team has won a gold metal without a player from this town.

The one I'm most surprised by is Missouri. Pretty strong showing there

BakedMitten

I agree. I thought it would be half of Lindenwood's roster but that's not the case. I guess this is the talent pool Lindenwood is thinking they can build upon. If LW was able to draw a good % of Missouri players the would probably become a factor pretty quickly. https://preview.redd.it/sbuseaq9j7rc1.png?width=548&format=png&auto=webp&s=599d7dda04ac5478570eb2e1eabc7b953bd4b719

Otherwise-Contest7

St. Louis is becoming a great US hockey development city. There's been a lot of investment in youth hockey and facilities. A lot of former Blues players stayed post NHL career and helped grow the sport in that area.

pleated_pants

Ohio needs to step up it's game. With an NHL team in Columbus, and minor league clubs in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Dayton, plus a ton of rich all boys highschools (especially in Cleveland and Cincinnati) and 3 D1 programs in the state, Ohio should be placing more kids at a D1 level.

Go away South Dakota

Taters976

It has always been odd to me how strong MN and ND are, but as soon as you hit the SD line the talent/participation drops off. Outside of maybe Sioux Falls the state as a whole doesn't produce anything.

14Calypso

I'm more curious about Mississippi.

And Louisiana for good measure because I was curious myself https://preview.redd.it/jis8jin896rc1.png?width=488&format=png&auto=webp&s=6710fa50cc73a60d477ca032307208ddd57d5036

Minn-ee-sottaa

This is inaccurate- Minnesota HS players aren’t registered thru USA Hockey so you’re severely undercounting MN

TopShelfHockeyMN

So you knowingly cherry-picked data which you knew excluded a majority of the population you are referencing, and then double downed by admitting you know nothing about MN hockey registration while also including your personal opinion that you would “guess the vast majority do to attend select development tryouts”. Nice. 👍

Bazaij

To be fair I also think viewing Mystery Alaska has been included in his calculations.

Minn-ee-sottaa

Selects tryouts only matter for like 0.1% of MN HS players

arotto12

The vast majority of hockey players aren’t registered by USA hockey in Minnesota. Despite playing from ages 4-18. We play for our local team.
