You jest but I’ve seen pretty serious arguments over whether “sex worker” is a useful category when it covers both people who post naughty pictures and people who actually do the dirty.
“Blue collar sex work” might be the concept needed to settle that debate!
The intention is what matters, artistic nudity is just another form of expression and it isn't inherent to sexual satisfaction, kinda like that scene in Oppenheimer, Nolan didn't expect u to pull ur cock out in the middle of the theater
Rn I'm doing comics, I plan to do animations when Patreon covers all my expenses so I can expend all my time in it
I'd say it comes down to the intent of the artwork. Something intentionally meant to be erotic definitely fits moreso than a nude study or even just something completely sfw that people decide to lust over anyway.
Yeah I used to sell nude models for vrchat and this has really got me thinking. Like asking someone how long their dick should be and whether they want to be able to toggle to switch to a vagina is definitely not normal in a normal job. But at the same time there wasn’t much difference between making a normal model and an NSFW model, for every model I’d just have to go down the list of options like “ok do you want a cute hat or any accessories? How about a penis?”. There’s the undeniable fact that any time I made an NSFW model I’d be interacting with the nsfw community and there absolutely people in vrchat that were actual sex workers that made money with their body instead of software. Sometimes people would want custom sounds or animations and getting people to help out with that definitely made what I did a lot closer to sex work than just 3d modeling.
On the whole I’d say no I don’t really consider that sex work. But it is a very interesting experience spending hours staring at a naked model trying to make the penis look natural and make the boobs bounce just right. Like every time you test the bounce you have to try to imagine how to make it sexy, but you’ve been staring at these boobs for so long focused on individual polygons and vertexes that any excitement has faded away and it becomes very mundane.
I wonder if it’s different for artists that either sell doujins or have like a patreon or something similar. Like if you’re not working on commissions how do you decide what to make? Do you draw what you like the most, or do you eventually become cynical about it and just try to figure out what kinda of things you need to make that’ll be the most popular and get the most sales.
Sex work encompasses a lot more than that though, including dancing/stripping, fetish videos, etc. Some sex workers do domme work via sexting/snapchat. I forget what else.
You're not wrong, Walter. You're just a samantic asshole. Nobody is really arguing this point in good faith. It's a joke, not a dick. Don't take it so hard.
... unless you want to get paid...
It's a hell of a question, where does the line get drawn? Take adult films for instance, the performers are without a doubt sex workers. But is the director? The camera crew? The lighting people? The sound guys? The guy who brings the coffee? They all profit from sex, but does that make them all sex workers?
I feel like to be a sex worker you need to engage sexually with people as work. Then again that wouldn't make people who work with onlyfans or cam sites sex workers per se, and they are usually considered sex workers. So yeah you're right, both arguments are kinda right
I don't even think that's online. Considering whore and slut is common insult to women.
It's especially ironic when people that use those services just turn around and insults he person that gives them that service.
But I guess you can't really expect much because people do the same shit when it comes to burgers or your garbage.
I took it as they realized they just admitted they masturbate to, presumably from the artist's surprise, art that wasn't intended to be sexual. "Oh god I just said that out loud" face.
I have a couple of fountain pens. My vintage ringtop Wahl with a #2 flex nib is my favorite tho! I have a cherished Skilcraft pen that was given to me by a personal hero, Jim Benton. They used to sell for $1.50 and were gov't standard pens (for good reason, real workhorses). Other odds and ends. I'm glad I was able to curb myself from getting new ones, fountain pens are such a bottomless hole to fall down. You got any fav's you're using?
Very jealous of your vintage flex nib. I have heard they are super nice! my go to for note taking at work is a TWSBI vac 700. I like a broad nib and theirs is pretty smooth. pilot parallels are fun for calligraphy stuff. feel like every day I'm eyeing up a new pen though, you aren't wrong about them being a bottomless pit! still searching for a flex nib that I am happy with. I the several I have tried have been disappointing.
The Pilot Falcon can give you most of what you'd get in a flex nib at as reasonable price as fountain pens get. It was my COVID rabbit hole, so I was patient and found my vintage pen for a $50 on eBay.
But it's a rabbit hole with the promise of something perfect being out there if you can just 'buy' it. And that's not really true. I think there's so much more value to learning to use what you HAVE. You can learn to tune nibs or learn techniques/upkeep for your pen to make it more to your tastes than playing a roulette wheel of 'new pen' that almost will never be the end-all-be-all that so many people online talk like they're searching for. Save your money and spend more time writing/drawing!
No, but we are using the term "sex worker,"
If you had said "porn actor" I would say no, the cameraman is not a porn actor.
"sex worker" can be a general term for someone who works in the sex industry.
> [The line in modern days between porn and not porn is actually really blurry; Like ASMR, to some people, counts as porn, right? If someone has gotten off while listening to me stream, have I made porn? Is that how this works? Or do I have to make it with the *intention* being that people get off to it?](https://clips.twitch.tv/SpineyCalmTruffleBrokeBack)
Is porn in the eye of the beholder, or is it about creator intention? Tricky subject
I think it's because there's a significant overlap between fans like this, and people who think anyone who is a sex worker or works in the sex industry are scum.
Oof, I’m sorry. Fandom can get weird.
If anyone ever says that about my art, I’m going to hide under the blankets and just curl up for awhile and contemplate life.
Considering my audience is all ages, and my work’s not nsfw, I would not take that kind of thing as a compliment. (I don’t think I’d like someone equating my art with their “happy fun time”.)
🍑👎
I do get odd people who say “they’d eat my art if they could” though. So I guess I still have some odd fans.
It's a visual shorthand. Everyone knows cartoonists draw on paper on a drawing table. You show him using a tablet on a computer desk and it doesn't immediately shout "this person is a cartoonist/artist."
In effect, it's using decades of "common knowledge," filtered through years of popular culture, to save having to explain explicitly who this person is supposed to be and what they are doing via dialogue or exposition.
If you're spending time arguing "I'm a sex worker" you're probably not one.
If you're spending time arguing "I'm not a sex worker" you probably are one.

The only ones working for sex in this context are the fans
Only the fans? Feels like this could be shorten into a more appealing brand name.
For the fans? Fans only?
I think we’re getting somewhere with the last one!
Yeah you're right, I think Fansly is what any company will end up going with.
Specifically Fans?
FansInParticular
Exactly Fans
Significantly enjoyers
Lythe Fans
Ok but working for sex is not at all the definition of sex working
Then what the hell am I making money for?!
Ok, but ARE smut/fetish artists sex workers?? I can see both arguments being right
It's hard work that's really sexy, so maybe we're all sex workers if you think about it.
I’m not a sex worker… I consider it more as a ‘paid hobby’
Sounds like something a sex worker would say.
It takes one to know one. That is btw also my line if the cops ask if I am a sex worker.
Always assume that anyone in a police uniform is a stripper in costume.
It takes one to blow one, sun tzu said that
And I’d say he knows a little be more about blowing than you do, pal
Because he invented it and then he perfected it so that no living femboy could best him in your ring of honor!
How else are you supposed to really "know" your enemy if you don't suck them off.
I jerked off to this comment, now you're the sex worker
I am okay with this.
damn. turn that into a buisness and we can have a sex pyramid scheme
You get paid?
Sex hobbyist.
You should really flip that to a sole proprietorship same work and pay, but so many more tax breaks.
A hobby that I wouldn't do otherwise but I do it because they pay me and goddamnit im a sex worker
The true sex worker was inside us all along
Hey, for enough money...
I work more off a bartering system. Last night I got paid in drinks and last month I sucked a dick for a plate of spaghetti.
Would rather be inside them amirite?
Bold of you to assume I'm hard at work
Slightly crossing into the disagreement column, when people ask what I do, I reply "as little as possible"
there's working hard, and then there's working *hard*...
Every job is a different form of prostitution, according to a song I know
And baby, I'm sleeping on the job
My sig fig thinks I’m sexy when I come home from work tired. I guess I’m a sex worker, too.
You guys are getting sex *and* work?
Smut art is white collar sex work. Doing the dirty for money is blue collar sex work. This isn't serious but it is funny.
Hey don't shame hookers. They're essential workers.
You jest but I’ve seen pretty serious arguments over whether “sex worker” is a useful category when it covers both people who post naughty pictures and people who actually do the dirty. “Blue collar sex work” might be the concept needed to settle that debate!
I would consider myself a sex worker, the only difference of my porn is that I draw it instead of record it
Do you make full animations or just stills? Are porn photographers sex workers? Are the models if it's softcore?
The intention is what matters, artistic nudity is just another form of expression and it isn't inherent to sexual satisfaction, kinda like that scene in Oppenheimer, Nolan didn't expect u to pull ur cock out in the middle of the theater Rn I'm doing comics, I plan to do animations when Patreon covers all my expenses so I can expend all my time in it

Tyyyyy, I will try my best!

I'd say no - I think you have to be having some kind of sex to be a sex worker - in the sex industry though, totally.
Sex work encompasses a lot more than that though, including dancing/stripping, fetish videos, etc. Some sex workers do domme work via sexting/snapchat. I forget what else.
I can see why you would say that - it’s just not how I use the phrase.
Id argue they're more akin to the cameraman filming porn.
[удалено]
so then it's the producer of the porn.
[удалено]
you literally said the artists produce it everything you described is the producer's job
But is the cameraman filming porn a sex worker? What about the director or the writer?
From my personal experience, I don’t see much of a difference and mean this in positive light.
[удалено]
That's true of most commissioned artists though.
[удалено]
Though as in a colloquial way of saying "although" As in, "Although, that's true of most artists"
[удалено]
Artists, NSFW or not, regularly cop abuse from their clients and suffer from extreme expectations.
[удалено]
Nobody here is arguing but you. I'm certainly not.
That's why we (the royal we) keep asking that pizza chick artist for feet pics. 🤣🤣🤣

I think the real question is: does it matter?

I don't know about sex workers but they are at least in the same industry
I think it would make you a pimp. You're not performing the acts yourself. You're making characters do the sex act.
It was the Santa comic, wasn't it.
Somebody was feeling their holiday spirit.
Got curious and went to find it. I refuse to be curious ever again.
[the comic i believe](https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/s/Wr70xQf0By)
Thank you. This punched me in the gut in the best way possible.
😐 That certainly is one of the comics of all time
Wow, I was... not expecting that
Fuckin hilarious
Did you pay the artist? No? Then it doesn't count. For what it's worth we're all selling ourselves somehow
I get paid... attention. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
Paid in exposure
Exhibitionism.
you're getting updiddled
HEY. Some of us are just sluts. In it for praise and love of the game!
Wait, so amateur porn isn't sex work?
if noone got paid, it's not work. it's just exhibitionism.
Nah, it's more like volunteer sex work.
What about the people who post to rule 34 for free
Why does he get sad at the end?
because he masturbates to toonhole????
many weird online people have an irrational disdain for sex workers
I don't even think that's online. Considering whore and slut is common insult to women. It's especially ironic when people that use those services just turn around and insults he person that gives them that service. You are too online if you think that is an "online" attitude
Shame
Post-nut clarity.
Yeah that doesn’t really make sense to me, since he was so happy to ask the question
He knows what he did.
This is why I don't have a DeviantArt profile anymore.
My only question is what fountain pen are you using?
I have a couple of fountain pens. My vintage ringtop Wahl with a #2 flex nib is my favorite tho! I have a cherished Skilcraft pen that was given to me by a personal hero, Jim Benton. They used to sell for $1.50 and were gov't standard pens (for good reason, real workhorses). Other odds and ends. To be fair that nose do be looking like a boob. (Still awesome comic btw!)
Does the ones making but not acting in adult videos, like the camera man/editor/coordinator/director, count as sex workers or only the actors?
I think yes. It's the sex industry. Like, if you work at a post office sorting mail, but don't do the deliveries, you're still a postal worker.
Postal worker, yes. But are they a mail man (woman)?
No, but we are using the term "sex worker," If you had said "porn actor" I would say no, the cameraman is not a porn actor. "sex worker" can be a general term for someone who works in the sex industry.
Bro, this is so weird. Partially because I see parts of myself in that fan... I like this comic.
> [The line in modern days between porn and not porn is actually really blurry; Like ASMR, to some people, counts as porn, right? I wouldn't say it's the same ballpark, but we do share a concessions booth
Well, the concealed space behind the concession booth.
I work so my wife doesnt leave and still has sex with me, so yeah im a sex worker
Yeah I mean if you think about it our biological imperative is to be a sex worker and multiply.
is the punchline the fan realizing his own shame? not super clear
I think it's because there's a significant overlap between fans like this, and people who think anyone who is a sex worker or works in the sex industry are scum.
Jackin' off to this comic to honor you, chris!
Toothless is a bold choice for a fan.
Oof, I’m sorry. Fandom can get weird. If anyone ever says that about my art, I’m going to hide under the blankets and just curl up for awhile and contemplate life. If I masturbate to my work, I’m my Only Fan

Sigh…*Unzips*
Slow walking and popping my booty out on the corner of r/toonhole in case anybody is interested in more comics.
I think it depends on whether the work was intended to be erotic.
Well then pizzacake died I bet she has more weird fans than most of the r/comics
must be over thinking fan
If you don't want it, stop drawing that hot sexy Shrex.
Well, you can rub one out to almost everything if it's your thang
Ppft. Nah. Work usually gets you paid.
So...where is this masturbatable comic he speaks of? Just curious, not for any reason in particular.
Do you actually draw on those old school slanted tables? I thought it was all digital now.
It's a visual shorthand. Everyone knows cartoonists draw on paper on a drawing table. You show him using a tablet on a computer desk and it doesn't immediately shout "this person is a cartoonist/artist." In effect, it's using decades of "common knowledge," filtered through years of popular culture, to save having to explain explicitly who this person is supposed to be and what they are doing via dialogue or exposition.
You have a very visually appealing artstyle and I will leave it at that.
Well that's specious reasoning.
He forgot he's not on internet.
I could probably jerk off to [this one.](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fouskva4ak29c1.png)
Now I will Masturbate to this comic AND ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!
I never thought of it that way.
Wat
This sub is just artists being victims of their fans now. I feel like the Internet is discovering collapse patterns in humanity.
i like how people think this is about drawing smut, but as a fellow comicker i know what this is about weirdly edgy over familiar rando comments.
Would you consider a porn cameraman to be a sex worker?
if you wrote a basic HTTP Server that sites like pornhub use to work, are you a sex worker?
Where did that thought come from?! And why?! Some people just say the darndest things sometimes….
This is the dumbest shit ever. Made me laugh.
If you're spending time arguing "I'm a sex worker" you're probably not one. If you're spending time arguing "I'm not a sex worker" you probably are one.
Even if, the mockery against sex workers comes from the objectification. For an artist, it, just, wouldn't even work.
I love R34 artists.
He’s more like a pimp, putting his girls to work.
