You mean this [Uboat](https://store.steampowered.com/app/494840/UBOAT/) right? I highly recommend it, it's a lot of fun. The gameplay loop of restocking, taking missions, patrolling out at sea while managing your crew is well done. It's also coming out of Early Access this year. It's even a really good buy right now. I don't have War On the Sea so I can't comment on it. Also if you like WWII naval warfare, [Task Force Admiral](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1281220/Task_Force_Admiral__Vol1_American_Carrier_Battles/?curator_clanid=37756818) is worth keeping an eye on.

Thats the U-Boat I was talking about indeed, Gonna see if someone has a comment on War On the Sea and then decide. Learning Uboat is going to suck...

Tomatow-strat

Have both uboat is better

Uboat isn't that hard to learn tbh. I'd say you're good to go after a couple of YouTube videos. I used this one and it helped a lot [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68NgMW10sew](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68NgMW10sew). His other tutorials are good. Uboat goes on sale pretty often for $13 btw.

It’s old and takes time to mod it out, but Silent Hunter is a great series for naval sub warfare. If not, I’d say get UBOAT. War On the Sea (from what I’ve seen from YouTube play throughs) ends up being a bit repetitive and has issues. That’s not to say UBOAT doesn’t have its own set of issues but idk if they’re as frustrating as War on the Sea. If you’re really into that kind of fleet warfare then by all means get WotS, but UBOAT has more to offer imo. Especially with the mods that have been made.

Hm I haven't looked at Silent Hunter yet, I've heard about it but what does it differ from Uboat?

tallasthegiant

It differs from uboat in that it doesn’t have the same micromanaging of the crew. It is focused on simulating submarine combat during WWII, and you can get as realistic as you want with it. It’s very immersive, and honestly, a bit relaxing to stroll the seas until you come across an enemy warship. With that said, it’s also pretty hard!

Also check out Carrier Battles Guadalcanal, which is pacific theater naval combat. Nice game. Keep an eye on Task Force Admiral from MicroProse

There are many options. Of the two you mentioned, War on the Sea is almost like it was trying to emulate Victory at Sea 2, but whoever designed the UI should be kicked around an alley for a bit. I play UBoat on and off. It's a lot better than it used to be but I still have trouble getting guy a to do task a while guy be taken over for him etc. The other fella mentioned Silent Hunter and that's a great series if you have the patience to mod it. There is also Ultimate Admiral Dreadnaughts which sort of tells the story of the big, monstrous battleships and is very customizable. They just don't have a great campaign. Some other fun games are the new carrier survival and there are a few more set to be released the next year that show promise, like [Task Force Admiral](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1281220/Task_Force_Admiral__Vol1_American_Carrier_Battles) and [This weird looking sim.](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1530920/Crush_Depth_UBoat_Simulator/) Task force Admiral looks like another attempt to do what both Victory at Sea 2 and WotS were trying to do. Check out what Microprose is up to on Steam.

Agadore_Sparticus

They're not that similar, I'd go with the scale that offers you more interest.

I am equally interested in both, the issue I have is that apparently War on The Sea is a bit more expensive and more buggy but I like the more commanding approach it makes.

Bit of a tangent, but naval warfare is a bit of an odd one for me. When young, many decades ago, I loved making models of WW2 ships. Was totally hooked on the grandeur of it, read about all the battles and so on. And I've always longed for the computer game that captured the excitement, have bought many over the years, yet found most ultimately disappoint. Eventually, I think the problem may be the nature of naval warfare itself. 99.99% of the time nothing happening at all. Then you are hit by a shell from somewhere you didn't see and it's game over! Anyway, given that, I can recommend the Silent Hunter series as doing a great job of managing this. The searching on the map is fast and interesting enough. I think Silent Hunter 4 is the peak of the series. SH5 has better graphics, but many don't like the gameplay as much. SH4 has many must-have mods that improve it. Another to recommend is the Ultimate Admiral:Dreadnoughts. The catch being that only just about covers the WW2 era, really focussing on 1900 - 1920s, as the name suggests. Also, the innovation it adds is that you design your own ships. IMHO This really gets over the "99% of the time nothing is happening" problem in naval warfare. Designing is fun and creative, then getting to test your designs against the enemy is good. However, I believe it is still early access, the campaigns part of the game is there, but not fully fleshed out. One of those that I aim to go back to soon to see how it's developed these past months. But if the idea of designing ships from destroyers to battle cruisers then getting them to launch shells at each other with loud explosions sounds fun, then might be worth a try despite not being \*quite\* WW2 focussed. Finally, avoid Victory at Sea Pacific. A horrendous mess of a game that should never have existed. Developers got way too ambitious, even 3 or 4 years of fixes after release, it is still bug ridden and even when it works, just unpleasant and frustrating.
