It would be much more effective if instead they did this at airports and fined the politicians and rich people 5 mil every time they decided to fly somewhere
Not the rich. We hate the politicians that feel like they are above everyone else. The people who make decisions based on feelings and a agenda and not on facts.
Politicians could make a rule that private jets and yachts will now have additional taxes added to their fuel, storage fees, equipment, people that buy perfectly fine houses just to tear them down and build a larger house should pay a higher property tax.
Politicians won’t do that.. and until people wake up and realize that all these laws only hurt the poor then nothing will get changed.
I don’t have a problem with somone owning 3-4 houses 30 cars, 2 jets , a yacht, and a helicopter. Good for them. But now you must pay more taxes for these luxury items. Not a 1 time tax. A yearly tax.
We should focus more on things that would actually make a difference. Not just something that feels good to vote on.
A Boeing jet flying from London to New York will burn approximately 70000kg of fuel ~ 82,353 liters
82,353 liters = 21,755 gallons of fuel.
My car has a gas tank of 22 gallons
It would take me filling my jeep almost 1000 times to match the fuel use for one cross Atlantic trip.
Anyone who points to cars and not planes is fighting with a different interests.
yeah because they want us to think us every day citizens are the reason for pollution,
we gotta stop eating meat, we gotta stop driving cars, we gotta stop running the ac/heat in the blistering heat / freezing cold
when in reality its the super rich who fly on private jets constantly and corporations pumping smoke into the environment doing all the damage
Exactly.
The whole climate change narrative is a fraud. Yeah people can affect the environment, but they have been making claims of impending doom for decades. They just want to control people, the internet, where we can go, what we can think, what we can buy and do.. they want to wipe us out and replace us with AI and tech.
You deserve no downvotes there are no lies detected here. The only thing you missed is the subservience to corporate greed which trumps all things in this damn country.
If we were nationalists, we wouldn't have let it come to this. Our governments are now all globalists, and we don't want our dear little globalist world to come crashing down with the loss of Netflix and Funko Pops.
We've become too complacent, and too focused on the next thing we can buy, rather than looking at the society we're building for our children.
It was more like SWAT breaking down the door with a tank and shooting anyone they found in the head.
70% of the world population will now get turbo cancer, myocarditis, VAIDS and what not.
The other 30% is concentrated in Ukraine, Russia and Africa. In Ukraine half a million unvaccinated have already been killed off, and sounds like they're about to start in Africa now, Nigeria is right in the middle of the greatest concentration of unvaccinated people in the world: [https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-vaccinations-tracker.html](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-vaccinations-tracker.html)
The people who are burning the worlds forests are here, in their private jets, to lecture YOU about YOUR method of transportation. While this has been The only method available to bring food and other goods to your home for decades, you must now not drive it, for the good of the planet, of course. They will sit with their engines on all day long in your driveway to ensure that you don’t pollute the planet with you’re own vehicle. Representatives will be there soon to talk about wrongthink, and how it leads to behaviors that destroy the planet.
Meanwhile, not that far across the planet, these same individuals are scorching the earth and enslaving entire countries, including their children, to gather the planets resources.
Have they ever capped Nordstream 2? Is it still spitting out gas into the ocean? The media is literally telling us that 2+2 is only a concept, and that there could be more answers than 4. All I can see from this math is 1984 x Y = 2023.
Right. We can’t mine the coal for a profit and use it to create energy. That would be bad for the environment. Let’s just burn it off while it’s still in the ground. This is much better for humanity. Here are some tasty bugs!
You're forgetting the shipping companies that sail ships for weeks on end across oceans, burning the literal bottom of the barrel of oil as fuel, which delivers trinkets and toys that the average human, like you and me, fuels by purchasing these items over and over.
Meanwhile our prime minister is yet to take a train on a local (by local i mean inside the country) visit, instead he jumps on a plane.
Hypocrites the lot of them.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_Low_Emission_Zone
Tl;dr - OP's title and the picture leave out a lot of important information. Probably one of the biggest things to note is that this mostly only affects petrol cars from pre-2006, and diesel cars from pre-2015. Around 90% of automobiles are already compliant and face no charge. Also, around half of Londoners don't even have cars, and this has some pretty decent citywide support.
In some circles this would be deemed as socioeconomic discrimination and the venn diagram of those that support that low emission policy would be about as close to a circle as you could get.
This is London. Public transit is darn near everywhere. If you want to help poor people, then subsidize rail, tube, and bus lines, and build bike lanes.
Or they can go to one of the grocery stores near where they live. Pretty much every neighborhood in Greater London is going to have a grocery store in it, so for nearly everyone it's less than a kilometer from where they live to a grocery store. It's pretty easy to fit a fair bit of food in a backpack and two canvas bags. Seriously, go zoom in on a section of Greater London that you think looks poor, and do a search for "groceries". You'll find a shop near enough that anyone capable of living on their own should be able to walk there.
"Vehicles in the "disabled" tax class are exempt from the charge, as are London-licensed taxis, private hire vehicles which are wheelchair accessible and historic vehicles (over 40 years old). There are also exemptions for agricultural vehicles, military vehicles, certain types of mobile cranes and non-road going vehicles which are allowed to drive on the highway (e.g."
Get a 40 year old diesel car and run it on old vegetable oil.
What you leave out is how large the ULEZ zone has become. Many people are now losing their businesses because of it. It also hits lower income families the hardest, they can’t afford the 12£ a day to go into the zone and they can’t afford a newer car. They’re double screwed.
And let’s be real, since when does people paying 12£ clean your cities air? It doesn’t.
Yep. Has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that in pre-2006 cars GPS was still somewhat rare.
Every car has to be 'trackable' to leave the driveway. Nothing sus about that at all, now is there...
And if a car has had upgrades to make them compliant i'm sure the government will take immediate corrective action, cease to charge them, and refund every penny they've taken. Not a doubt in my mind. Government bureaucracy is known for its efficiency and promptness in correcting its own wrongs.
What are you looking at us for? We don't have that shit here. We barely allow red light cameras, and there's only one in about a 20 mile radius of me at a major intersection on a semi-highway.
ProTip: There’s a tiny bleed hole on the front of the lens cover for condensation to get out of the housing. Insert an expanding foam straw and spray liberally.
As someone who lives in ULEZ area it’s a absolute joke. Nobody wants it people are using T10 Star nuts and impact drills to pull them down. It’s costing excess £400 a month if you don’t have a ULEZ compliant car.
How long do you think those cameras would remain on polls in most places in the United states? People are burning down entire cities so what do you think would happen to these eyes in the sky's?
This is the type of thing that happens when citizens are stripped of their God given right to security. This obviously IS NOT OK. I've watched what has happened to Europe over the last 5 to 10 years and I'm starting to see the same thing play out in North America. It's obvious what's going on and people need to figure out a game plan before it's too late. We can no longer allow a fraction of a percent of people to destroy the other billions of people's lives.
Am I understanding the emissions thing correctly here, I will have to get a new car or change how I get to work from next year when this comes into play in Edinburgh.
The car I have gets over 70mpg and my MOT’s have a few false fails because they couldnt detect any emissions. Very economical car. Yet I wont be able to drive to my work. Whereas theres a guy who recently bought an x7 m50 and boasts that he gets around 12mpg, yet thats totally allowed in the zone. Is there something I’m missing or is this just to get people to buy new cars? Just going buy the mpg figures surely his car is way worse for emissions than mine?
Yea but what I’m saying is a car that gets 12mpg should be more "dirty" than a car that pulls over 70mpg? Or is there more to it than that? If were covering 1000 miles in the same cars I can do that in a tank and a bit, god knows how many times the 12mpg car would burn through traveling that distance?
Ive already checked online and it says my cars a no go. Mines is a 15 plate diesel.
I live in the U.K. and the title of this post seems a bit misleading. I think OP refers to the new ultra low emission zones (ULEZ) that have been introduced in some areas of U.K. cities, which only effects about 1/10th of all cars in these areas (basically old diesel guzzlers). It is not so much about net zero, but more about limiting the pollutants in those areas (air quality = bad). Most of these zones are fairly affluent so the relatively small tax shouldn’t be an issue, although I believe there may be subsidies available to help people in these areas if necessary. Nobody is getting imprisoned for leaving their homes (although the fines might begin to rack up if they ignore ULEZ rules)
According to the government. Who admit to that not being the number, but the estimated number based upon data by existing ULEZ cameras. RAC motorists group has shown that 850,000 vehicles in London alone will be affected once the expansion of the zone kicks in. The zone expansion will also include all of greater London, adding to the 850,000.
850k is more like 33% of drivers. The poorest 33% of drivers.
The UK, Canada and Australia are good reminders of how extreme leftist politics don't work. They play on your feelings and then fuck you and everyone else around you when they're running your country.
It’s a great reminder of how corrupt politicians can warp left ideals into a maelstrom of bullshit. There needs to be more reprimands and laws in place for those in power more-so than just a slap on the wrist.
It’s more of a great example of how corrupt the systems are and how much growth needs to happen for the systems to function properly.
If this happens near you be a karen and go up and get visuals for the world to see who is being compliant. They want a world of no privacy Sox them and let the world teach them a lesson
Best part is your car could be compliant but lord forbid you’re not from the country and you didn’t register… this guy from France did that and has a $11,000 fine
https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/apr/13/eu-motorist-fined-almost-11000-after-visit-to-london-falls-foul-of-ulez-rule-french-hire-car
All part of the plan to get everyone to Net Zero and Negative bank accounts by 2030. They are intentionally bleeding middle and low class dry financially.
If that happened on my street every single camera would fall off the pole on the same night and find its way to city hall or the mayor's driveway and self-ignite.
A climate toll, the camera tracks emissions from your car and automatically bills you a fine.
They were first introduced in London city but now they're hitting the suburbs. Once the system is fully operational they'll squeeze the emissions gap and force everyone (who is poor) to walk/cycle or take the bus to work.
The next stage after that is no meat on your plate. You're basically the carbon they want to reduce, which means this climate scam is the new Third Reich.
Not justifying this rule, but it is London only, not the UK. When you have a city with that much public transport coverage, it's a difficult one to challenge and I dare say a lot of residents don't even own a car (they don't need to).
Either way, one of the many reasons I don't live in London!
the occupy wall street and oil protesters have been weaponized to dismantle cars. the motivation is heroin, used as a dangling carrot. Lost pet networking is used, and many of them sacrifice pets. If you don't believe me, look at the facebook lost pets in your town. These people are stealing pets and also killing them.
I heard a young girl talking about it today, while her friends were taking parts off another car on my block.
young people have been weaponized to do the dirty work for the environmentalist who want to get rid of gasoline vehicles. there are armies of shills, and they are having a great time.
Protect your cars and pets; these people are mentally ill, and sponsored.
So everyone commenting on this has absolutely no clue on what this even means. In the simplest terms if your petrol car is newer than the 2005 or diesel car is newer than 2015 you don't need to pay any tax and can just continue with your life. If you live in London in this zone you are either incredibly wealthy and this tax is meaningess or you take transit because you don't need a car
Why bother posting in this sub if you just parrot government talking points?
First of all, the Ulez zone is set to expand to all of London, and all of greater London's counties and boroughs. It's not a matter of in any particular zone of London for much longer.
Second of of, this will affect a lot of people. The government is saying that it will barely affect anyone as they trying to implement the plan. Reading the fine print reveals that they believe that to be the case based on data provided from the existing ULEZ system.
RAC motorists group through FoIA requests found out that in London alone there are 850,000 registered vehicles that will be affected. Many more if you include all of greater London.
These are not increadibly wealthy people. People are not driving around in a 1999 Ford Focus because they are so rich they could heat their home burning money. This is a tax against the poor, many of whom were struggling to hold on at all amid rising cost of living in the area.
For now yes, how much do you think this camera network and installation costs? Do you think when everyone complies they will get rid of it, or change the rules?
Completely false. There is not a charge for ‘leaving your home’ and there are no criminal prosecutions, only fines. 90% of vehicles are exempt. London has excellent public transport. And for the clowns here screaming ‘SoCiAlIsM’ it was introduced under a Tory, right-wing government under renowned socialist Alexander Boris DePfeffer Johnson, when he was a Tory mayor of London, under a Tory government, which he went on to lead.
SS: How do they get around this re civil liberties? Maybe someone needs to take a case under Human Rights? Oh wait, the Tory's and the WEF want rid of that too.
Thanks a lot for the source. Maybe my reading comprehension is low but I don't see any mention of imprisonment? Like, you can literally walk out? It is a car tax and hitting those who are least wealthy, but the header of OPs post is totally miselading.
Yup and they are expanding that to communities outside of London that don’t have reliable public transportation where ppl rely on older cars. This is dystopian bullshit. Freedom doesn’t exist for many people as the govt wants you to believe. Another way for govt to take your money. Like they are invested In micro transactions for ppl to exist.

That's why they make the rules. Rules for thee and not for me.

Stuff like this is the reason people look back on "the good old days" with fondness.
Now those ~~public servants~~ politicians are going to use tax dollars to purchase electric jets. Least someone is enjoying that money..
> electric jets Let me stop you right there. Have any information on what that would look like, or how it would work, or charge?
Whatever it looks like it's already in their documented plans. Strangely, they go back to fuel in about 2040 or something.
They’re the ones making these rules.
What fuel did the engineer's van run on?

But they still aren't hole puncher or flying hole puncher resistant. Don't get me started on how slice n dice is still valid.

Anyone with the same age van/car won’t be paying the ulez charge, not really the gotcha you think it is?
“We’ll save the planet by raising taxes!”
Is that why they're doing this? To save the planet? That's the stated goal of this?
yeah because they want us to think us every day citizens are the reason for pollution, we gotta stop eating meat, we gotta stop driving cars, we gotta stop running the ac/heat in the blistering heat / freezing cold when in reality its the super rich who fly on private jets constantly and corporations pumping smoke into the environment doing all the damage

Is there something I’m missing or is this just to get people to buy new cars? Just going buy the mpg figures surely his car is way worse for emissions than mine?
[удалено]
Yea but what I’m saying is a car that gets 12mpg should be more "dirty" than a car that pulls over 70mpg? Or is there more to it than that? If were covering 1000 miles in the same cars I can do that in a tank and a bit, god knows how many times the 12mpg car would burn through traveling that distance? Ive already checked online and it says my cars a no go. Mines is a 15 plate diesel.
UK economy is going to shit and they just trying to find creative ways to steal money to make up for the deficit. Lol
Not surprised a UK cuck would give a cuck take and try to make this sound better than it is. Slurp that whole boot, slurp slurp
The UK, Canada and Australia are good reminders of how extreme leftist politics don't work. They play on your feelings and then fuck you and everyone else around you when they're running your country.

They’re model WEF countries yes

It’s a great reminder of how corrupt politicians can warp left ideals into a maelstrom of bullshit. There needs to be more reprimands and laws in place for those in power more-so than just a slap on the wrist. It’s more of a great example of how corrupt the systems are and how much growth needs to happen for the systems to function properly.
The UK is not “extreme left”, this was a Tory policy and this is one of the furtherest right Tory parties I can remember.
And this is another example of why In the U.S.A. the people do not give up their guns.
If this happens near you be a karen and go up and get visuals for the world to see who is being compliant. They want a world of no privacy Sox them and let the world teach them a lesson
I’m sure that one dude will come rip in down
Break it
Woo-hoo free targets
Bet those cameras go offline quickly
Was serious question I dunno what's going on.
Would be a shame if something happened to those cameras.
Another good target for the trusty sledge hammer. Crap gos up, crap comes down.
If I lived on that cul de sac whatever is on top of the pole would be in the street and broken into a dozen pieces.
Just saw it off.
no such thing as authority x or etc
Pull them down
Bolt cutters 30 seconds after they leave.
I'd start by taking a cricket bat to the cameras
but if you reinvent a hydrogen motor you get murdered
This seems like a terrible unnecessary idea. Yay, more cameras everywhere monitoring everyone.
Can I burn rubber or let my car idle in my driveway without leaving?
People called Jeremy Clarkson mad....
5 years ago and no one believed XD. "Were gonna vote em out!" hurhur
Wouldn’t it be a shame if someone painted over the nice new lens?
Best part is your car could be compliant but lord forbid you’re not from the country and you didn’t register… this guy from France did that and has a $11,000 fine https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/apr/13/eu-motorist-fined-almost-11000-after-visit-to-london-falls-foul-of-ulez-rule-french-hire-car
What in the actual fuck is this shit?????
Your future
Bit of an overreach by the government. If only there was a way to do something about it.
When will we unite and just start eliminating cameras. Why do they want to know every aspect of our lives
V for Vendetta “wouldn’t it be crazy if the British government were like this” The British government “😏”
If they want people to drive green, supply them with e-vehicles or shut up government scum.
Cut the wires
This is what they wanted. It's only the beginning too.
I’d cut that camera down. It only takes like 30 seconds.
Just remove them. Neighbors will cheer.
All part of the plan to get everyone to Net Zero and Negative bank accounts by 2030. They are intentionally bleeding middle and low class dry financially.
Camera's are being taken down everyday
Okay, these ones you have a duty to cut down. Fuck that.
Become ungovernable. Get a chainsaw and cut that thing down immediately.
What goes up must come down
If that happened on my street every single camera would fall off the pole on the same night and find its way to city hall or the mayor's driveway and self-ignite.
Imagine being a Brit lmao
Would be an awful shame if the wind blew a carrierbag over it. Nudge nudge wink wink
Nothing a paint ball gun can't solve.
Is it legal to get 5w laser diodes in the UK?
Ah crap I ran your dumb pole over with an unmarked tractor...
The UK is a failing nation
Can someone explain this to me like they’re talking to a toddler because I’m confused as to what they’re doing. Is it surveillance or a toll?
A climate toll, the camera tracks emissions from your car and automatically bills you a fine. They were first introduced in London city but now they're hitting the suburbs. Once the system is fully operational they'll squeeze the emissions gap and force everyone (who is poor) to walk/cycle or take the bus to work. The next stage after that is no meat on your plate. You're basically the carbon they want to reduce, which means this climate scam is the new Third Reich.
That camera would be cut straight off that night in my neighbourhood.
Shouldn’t have given up your guns mates
Things in the US are not that much better. Police can be fairly more brutal.
Not justifying this rule, but it is London only, not the UK. When you have a city with that much public transport coverage, it's a difficult one to challenge and I dare say a lot of residents don't even own a car (they don't need to). Either way, one of the many reasons I don't live in London!
Great public transport, terrible air pollution, little reason to own a car, public support...
the occupy wall street and oil protesters have been weaponized to dismantle cars. the motivation is heroin, used as a dangling carrot.
You’re telling me that utility van is net zero? lol
But wait! I was told this is dangerous misinformation which is a threat to our democracy!
'*no criminal prosecutions...90% of vehicles are exempt*' yes, FOR NOW...
Out of context likely not true.
SS: How do they get around this re civil liberties? Maybe someone needs to take a case under Human Rights? Oh wait, the Tory's and the WEF want rid of that too.
Can we yanks get a link to what's going on over there?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66327961
Thanks a lot for the source. Maybe my reading comprehension is low but I don't see any mention of imprisonment? Like, you can literally walk out? It is a car tax and hitting those who are least wealthy, but the header of OPs post is totally miselading.

Nobody lived a greener lifestyle than a feudal serf. Just sayin.

Ealing is included now too. If that’s still London depends on your definition of London. If it is then there’s a lot of London.
