Damn we’ve come a long way

restlessleg

understatement like a mf. we’re pretty much smoking a different plant altogether

radiantcabbage

these pics are incredibly misleading bc they aren't manicured at all, which was the style before we had secondary markets for the trim. you're looking mostly at dried leaves rather than buds here, would just be considered poorly handled these days

Hanginon

And no, it really didn't look like that at all as it was buds, not male 'bud' leaves. Except for the Sinsemilla and the Thai sticks that are somewhat close to the photos, more like [this](https://www.rxleaf.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/cannabis-cigar-1.jpeg) but without that big stupid stick and tied with a very thin strip/string of the hemp stalk. This must be untrimmed, basic incredibly poor arranged and lit "I'm a photography student" effort. Fundamentally this photo is someone picked the branch tops before they budded and took some really terrible photos of them. This is something a botanist would do if they had no idea about cameras and lighting, and weed. Source; I was there. I was 'there' 10 years before this photo was taken.

Kriztauf

Now I finally know where the term Thai Sticks came from. I remembered seeing it in DARE listed as a slang term for weed and being extremely confused

Hanginon

They were pretty much top shelf stuff and often rare to come by. There was some pretty good bud at the time, but it wa all highly illegal therefore risky to deal with at any level and therefore harder to come by. Sinsemilla, unpollinated flowers, was also real good as Columbian weed was good, as was Jamacian, Then there was Mexican, the most available the least potent and the least expensive. It's a lot cheaper and easier to have someone wade across the river in the dark than to get something on a commercial carrier undetected and move it multiple thousands of miles across multiple borders. Then also, DARE. 0_0 The program was doomed from the start. If you want kids to listen to you and take you seriously don't bullshit them. Their bullshit detectors are permanently turned up to 11. Cops talking to kids about drugs was akin to the prudish frigid post meopausal preachers wife talking to young girls about how sex is dangerous and bad and jesus is watching. Which is kind of a pervy concept.... :/

Bah-Fong-Gool

I distinctly remember thinking in a second grade DARE class "LSD looks like fun!". Fast forward to the early 90s and all the potheads had DARE bumperstickers because they thought that might throw the cops off.

8lue8arry

We had something similar to DARE when I was in high school in the UK. All it achieved was giving us a list of things we wanted to try. I distinctly remember being told a story about a guy doing LSD then hallucinating that he was being chased by giant Mars bars. This was meant to put a bunch of 14-year-olds off drugs, obviously designed by someone who has never spoken to a 14-year-old.

GuardMost8477

Wow. All those strains you just mentioned. I’m having flashbacks from my youth. Lmao.

SkunkMonkey

As someone that also was there, this is some of the shittiest looking weed and nothing like what we were smoking. My mother worked for a Reggae record "import" company in the late 70s. She kept a bud of some of the best weed I've ever smoked in the freezer. It's my holy grail and I've been trying to get that taste ever since. It looked just like today's well trimmed, frosty, tight buds

Forevername321

That is correct. A "friend" got a pretty large quantity of what was called Panama Red about in round 1979-80. It was all in big fairly bright buds. The quality wasn't great, but it was quite smokable (although we didn't know any better). But there were at least two levels of pit. Good stuff and commercial ("mersh") You could get "chocolate Thai" that was actually quite good, but it is impossible to find in Thailand now. Only time I've seen it in situ was in Laos

[deleted]

Chocolate Thai was around in late 1980s East Coast USA, was amazing, unforgettable flavor, made us stupid stoned for a few hours.

Forevername321

Yep. I got most of mine in NYC mid-80s. Was lucky to get it again more recently, but still almost impossible to find in Thailand. When I left Laos to Thailand I had to flush a bit down the toilet. I took a photo and looked at it ruefully dozens of times.

ShithouseFootball

Yep, I had a guy in Astoria queens who got it for an entire summer in 91. You could stick it to your windshield it was so sticky. He also always had some funky ass skunk that I would kill for even these days.

[deleted]

Skunk that actually stunk of skunk. I'd get a little buzz smelling a real skunk stalking the neighborhood after that.

OlmecGawdUguyz

In the 1970s untrimmed bush was the preference.

loverevolutionary

Came here and did a CTRL-F "Trim." And there we are, the people who actually know what the hell they are talking about.

freeLightbulbs

>they aren't manicured at all 70's style

[deleted]

Could you imagine time traveling to 1970 with a pound of hydro grand daddy purple?

nozelt

or even better, the seeds for it

shnnrr

and the knowledge of proper growing methods

JoeFarmer

Thats the real ticket. Cultivation has done way more than ~~breading~~ breeding.

TwoDogsInATrenchcoat

Idk have you tried frying a mozzarella stick without breading? Can't be done.

Deceptichum

I’ve cultivated a self breading mozzarella plant.

skateguy1234

Fuck going to Mars, this is what I wanna see humanity working on.

ReginaldLongfellow

Yeah but have you tried sticking a mozzarella fry into bread tho? Can be fun.

nom-nom-nom-de-plumb

friend of mine back in the 60's grew some with a friend of his who's family had a plant farm and flower shop. They grew it outdoors using all the tricks his friend knew about growing plants. They ended up with several trash bags full, which they of course tossed into the back of a truck, drove into new orleans, and went to an all night laundromat and dryed out using it's dryers. (God can you imagine the smell?) they then had a full bathtub of weed in their apartment, and were like "Wait....we don't know how to sell weed, we're introverts!?" so they got the two guys who they usually bought from, and sold them all the excess they weren't gonna smoke for awhile. So for a couple of weeks this "acid weed" was going around LSU and to this day he thinks they made a mistake in not taking their dealers up on the offer to supply them with more. if you can read this, you are officially not blind.

Iamjimmym

Those poor dryers! And.. the loss off frosty goodness from the dryers.. devastating! But if it was good and better than the rest back then, shit. Can’t complain!

BitRadiator

Shoulda checked the lint trap.

Visti

You mean the kief catcher?

delvach

Taking amazing pot to a point after the sexual revolution and before AIDS? Of course. This is *why* we want time travel.

[deleted]

It would be the strongest weed ever to exist. The SSSC measured Williams Wonder at 15% THC in the late 1980's. Even they couldn't finish a joint of that potency between 2 people- they had access to a gas chromatograph iirc and published the strength of it in the catalog. My daughter recently handed me an 1/8th of "Permanent Marker" labeled 30% so thats a 100% increase over 30 yearsof selection. Not sure what the future plants will look like lol

Bah-Fong-Gool

Here's my amateur opinion... it seems like in the last decade, everyone was chasing 30% THC levels. In the pursuit of potency a lot of other desirable chemicals that also naturally appear in cannabis in varying levels have drastically decreased. Many of these ancillary chemicals have a synergistic effect with THC and can affect the quality of the high. This is just a single dudes observation, but the top shelf weed of the early 2010s smelled and tasted better than most of the strains today. In the late 90s, I had access to Northern Lights #5 and it was absolutely heavenly in all categories. A decade ago we had a glut of NYC Sour Diesel that you could smell through 2 ziplocks at 30 paces. Today I can walk to the corner store and buy buds I would have chopped a finger off for in high school, but there's a lack of... uniqueness? All the strains look and taste almost exactly the same, with no really distinct smells or tastes. Maybe I don't have access to the top of the top quality, but I suspect that's not the case.

[deleted]

I was in a shop recently and the flower was pre packaged in these foil / plastic bags. No little windows to see the product and you couldn’t smell it. Blind purchasing. I thought it was crazy they can do this to people. I really miss the late 90’s early 2000 products. Before everyone bred lush into everything. The orange crush was so citrus flavored. Insanely sweet silver haze. There was a strain called Dankouver that went around for a bit. I would love to see it resurface. Sometimes I wish I could blaze these flavors without any high. Just so tasty.

RelativetoZer0

I have also noticed this. I think, sooner than later, we'll see a resurgence in crops that have unique flavor characteristics now that the obsession with achieving the highest thc content is wearing off. Its been a bit like turning 25 and realizing that Everclear and 151 arent what you want to drink every time.

CounterStreet

It's also a matter of cultivation methods, growing environments and nutrients. I work for a company that manufactures nutrients for a lot of commercial producers here in Canada. Almost across the board, they are all using the same methods and nutrients. There has been a homogenization of technique in order to produce consistent product and high yields - this isn't necessarily a bad thing and in many ways desirable; a consistent product in quality, taste, and effects is a good thing for both producer and consumer. Consistently high yeilds has also brought the price down considerably, which again, is good for everybody. But what this *has* done is reduce the variety and expression of plant aromas, flavours, terpenes, and other aspects. Plants, like any living thing, are a product of their environment and inputs. When the inputs and environments are the same, the final result will tend towards the same, even with different strains. This is where I believe you will start to see more craft cultivators spring up, focusing on different criteria than consistency and yields. But it will take a bit to establish a solid market, and like any specialty product, will cost more than the mass produced alternative.

Spirited-Chest-9301

I’ve definitely noticed that within a 4 or 5 % difference the overall high can be comparable, I imagine due to what you just pointed out.

gomeitsmybirthday

100% thank you for saying what needs to be said. There was absolutely much more flavor and uniqueness to strains as far back as mid 90s to 2010ish. Potency is great and all but I miss certain strains that tasted so amazing that to this very day I can remember the the taste, the time and where I was when I first tasted it. I'm hoping this will all come full circle one day.

-Olorin

The film color distortion, and none of the buds being trimmed, makes this seem a lot worse than it probably was. Separating the female from the male plant has likely been able to, somewhat, frequently yield buds with over 15% THC for a very long time. Markets have increased potency, but more than that they’ve encouraged the creation of various concentrates. The idea that potency has increased significantly is mainly driven by people who haven’t smoked in 20 years taking huge rips and inconsistent government data due to the use of gas chromatography in testing and using samples from random drug busts.

Iamjimmym

Also, this was probably government grown or college lab grown and they were never known for having the best available seeds to start growing with, nor the best practices - just grow by the book and not alter depending on conditions. Just hazarding a further guess. 🤷‍♂️

JoeFarmer

Cultivation techniques are really where the major improvements have come. Potency has increased a little, but theres massive corruption in commercial cannabis testing. Producers regularly roll their buds in keif before sending samples off to the labs to get some of the insane numbers you see today.

ElectronicShredder

>Separating the female from the male plant Look at this cheeky mfer assuming the gender of the devil's lettuce /s

So, 1994 Albuquerque New Mexico. Having just come from Oregon where pretty pot was standard, I am sitting in this apartment in the projects (LA Vida Nueva/Mountain View) and these gangsters have this shitty looking brick weed. I joke and make fun of their stuff. They cut a chunk off with a knife and pick the seeds and stems out and load me a bong rip. I.was.glued.to.my.seat.stoned The ugliest, most stepped on ditch weed threw me on my ass like nothing I ever smoked before or after. If it was cut with something, I have no idea. I do know they would trade me an ounce of this shit for a gram of what my friends sente from Oregon. I was just some dude that smoked pot every now and then and not a stoner. This garbage looking weed was some Cheech and Chong laugh at your neighbors dog licking it's balls weed. Stuff today, in a few tokes, head change with a slower response. Nothing like that crappy ass looking trash weed of nearly 30 years ago.

ClarenceWhorley617

Right? That looks like brick weed that'd be jammed in a dime, usually seedy AF

Phlobot

It's no wonder hash was more popular

greyjungle

It’s crazy, you know there have been growers that have been making fire forever. Sinsemilla growing is a centuries old technique. If humans have learned one thing, it’s how to grow, harvest, and cure the heck out of plants. I’d imagine it would be life changing to see some kind bud, not knowing it even existed, after smoking this dirt forever.

server_busy

Columbian Gold was yellow like a #2 pencil and tasted like hash. It was, for it's time, pretty terrific

I_GIVE_KIDS_MDMA

This is "...the fine Colombian" in the Steely Dan song. Not cocaine, as the common misconception goes.

iamsuperkathy

I am so glad you said this. I told my husband it was talking about cocaine and he says, "does that song give off cocaine vibes to you?". Now, I can tell him he was right. Oh, the horror.

Lafinfil

Also starts out as "way back when in '67" - I always took it to be a reference to weed rather that cocaine because of time frame

pursuitofhappy

Here's the song for others interested since I had to find it after these comments to check it out, and agreed husband made a good point: [https://youtu.be/eAHQ-9Fniac](https://youtu.be/eAHQ-9Fniac)

thisplacemakesmeangr

The 2 times I found Acupolco it was a little more cinnamon colored than a pencil. It had a sweet almost fruit loop aftertaste and a happier buzz than I've ever found again.

[deleted]

i think acapalco gold is a legendary lost strain that people keep trying to find again, may have that mixed up though

thisplacemakesmeangr

Yep. It's been bred out as far as I've found and I'm extremely motivated and in a legal zone. I bought a 400$ qp of dirtweed from a sanity challenged friend in the late 80s that the old hippies all went nuts over. Then took a comparatively huge loss on it because I couldn't bring myself to sell much.

[deleted]

I bet it’s in the seed vault

[deleted]

I'd you want to recreate the actual golden color of Colombian gold take any good weed and put it outside in the bright sun during high UV index days .don't let it get rained on or too humid. this works best in places with low ambient humidity. the sun bleaching makes it turn golden . I'm surprised nobody else has done this and marketed it to the right people. you can't normally do it because modern consumer doesn't think gold has bag appeal so it's only viable if you have weed snob customers that want truly exotic classic experience .

Manisbutaworm

i can imagine the UV will have its effect on composition as well. Do you happen to know about difference in effect?

No-Company3116

https://potguide.com/blog/article/does-light-degrade-cannabis/

LabRat54

UV breaks down the THC into CBN which gives it more 'couch lock' effect. It also burns the chlorophyll out making the bud golden. Pot back in the day had character. The character has been bred out in pursuit of the highest THC percentage like that is all pot is about. We'd roll a few phatties then sit and pass them around while listening to some of the best rock ever made. Laughing our asses off and having a great old time. A real social event very much unlike the room full of zombies staring at their screens after hitting today's inbred mongrel strains that just zone everybody out.

Len_____________

No they don’t do it cause curing weed in direct light is a terrible idea

Tuggerfub

the only one that even looks like a proper bud

PsychoticMessiah

I was in the Dominican Republic earlier this year and as I’m hanging on the beach, some local guy comes up and offers to sell me weed. I asked to take a look and it had seeds and stems. I haven’t seen weed with seeds and stems in it in forever.

[deleted]

I got a $35 ounce in Portland a month ago and it was super seedy. I’ve planted 4 seeds and still have another 20 or 30? Gift that keeps on giving

pecuchet

I don't live in America so excuse my ignorance, but is that price remotely normal?

BurntAzFaq

Nah. I hear that price for an Oz, and I'm thinking garbage weed or a scam.

AndrewWilsonnn

Welcome to Oregon, where we literally have more weed than we know what to do with, and it's collectively driven the prices down to almost nothing. It's amazing, and we can't do anything with it because we can't send it across state lines

jkink28

*cries in Illinois*

ratbastardben

Waiting for this to happen to Michigan. You can find medical grade Oz for $90. That's down from $120

jkink28

2 and a half years after legalization and it's still $270/oz in Illinois (before 20%+ tax). I'm not sure the price will ever fall, they've really limited the number of grow licenses.

Evancredible

I got 1/2 ounce of trim and shake in Danville yesterday for $84. It felt like a steal, which is saying something. Though, not too long ago, I was paying $20/g, even when buying a quarter at a time, in southern Indiana. I can live with $6/g.

Unhelpful_Applause

Here is the catch 22: the price will bottom out when the bigger cooperations move in. Last 3 years in Michigan has seen oz go from a couple hundred to less than $100. All due to laws that made it very hard for smaller grows to flourish. No joke, I worked at a dispo. The best 33%thc weed(it was very very very good) is $200 oz, but they only pay $700 a pound. There is still plenty of room to go down.

cocainehaiku

You can buy top shelf, tax included for 50 for a low quality chronic, in CO. Washington is by far the cheapest state. Sucks to live where you do lol. I woulda said the same thing when I used to live in Indiana.

BurntAzFaq

I'm in NY. It's legal now and can get some great weed for about $100-$125 an Oz.

The_Duke2331

Damn here in The Netherlands we get it for 10 euros the gram or ≈290 dollar per ounce (28,35 gram) and that is considered bottom shelf stuff. And i thought we were weed capital?!

BurntAzFaq

Honestly, that is surprising. I assume we basically have access to similar if not the same strains. When it was illegal, the norm was roughly $200 an Oz. Maybe because you guys were ahead of the curve, the market sorta evened out. Along with taxation and such. I dunno, just speculating. Interesting, though.

moniqer

Yeah but you guys get all the other fun drugs for way cheaper.

HarryButtwhisker

Selling $20 O’s in oklahoma that honestly aren’t bad.

zedthehead

In Portland, yes. There are shops every few miles with ounces under $50, sometimes several within a few blocks. Everywhere else in the U.S.? Looking at ~$200 minimum even in legal areas. But tbf an ounce is a shitload of weed for most people. And those shops in Portland will also have higher-end weed for a higher price, the cheap stuff will often be a bit shaggy like the OP whereas the higher end stuff will look like modern high times buds. When you buy a preroll, it comes in a tube. When I lived in Portland every morning I would grind up a few nugs and scoop it into a recycled tube, then whenever I wanted to smoke I'd just uncap and tap a bit into my bowl and just light up wherever the hell I wanted. You could also get concentrate for as little as $12/g, so I also kept an e-pen on me and used a safety pin to glob a bit from a silicone puck onto the coils. I was high as fuck for the 18mos I lived there. Honestly it gets old after a while, and I eventually developed a panic and anxiety disorder from being so baked all the time. Like sure I was entirely unafraid of "getting caught" because it was legal, but I became overly paranoid of every other risk in life. I ended up going to the doctor because my anxiety was so bad it was causing me gut pain. Now I'm back east and just occasionally toke on a ∆8 cartridge, even that makes me feel too high sometimes. I miss middy weed. I just want to smoke a joint again without having a full-blown existential crisis panic attack.

Paulintheworld

I remember when that was a metric you judged the weed by - I can’t remember the last time I saw either.

wallysmith127

It was soooo cheap though...

benbernankenonpareil

Same experience. I was desperate to blaze it so I bought some, but it was trash. I felt like flower was very hard to find over there

ExWeirdStuffPornstar

Might be a case of the ol’ "let’s go sell those bad batches and trims to the stupid tourists"

greenredyellower

Ok, let's not get carried away. Weed has stems in it, the seeds are getting pretty rare though

Mistake_By_The_Jake2

Lol I was gonna say. Do people think modern day weed grows without a stem?

Rickest-ofthe-Ricks

I got busted by my dad smokin pot when I was in high school. He took my stash and mocked my “shitty” weed before flushing it. I always thought my dad was just trying to seem cool or whatever but this is hilarious. Like bro you were smoking a bunch of twigs in your day, this stuff will take you to pluto

HollowLegMonk

Same exact thing happened to me. My parents thought it wasn’t real weed and I got ripped off because it was so bright green and according to them “smelled like lemons”.

dabvigilante

explains why my parents never noticed i was smoking weed in their house. probably thought i was boiling skunks.

peglegs2010

Nah dude they definitely noticed

PretendThisIsMyName

Boiling skunks is what I’m gonna call smoking from now on so thank you for that one.

Ok-Sun-2158

They noticed, your pops was probably just blazing in the Garage/bathroom like my old man did lmao. Always thought I’d get in massive trouble and he was smoking as much as I was 😂

dickholejohnny

I came here to tell the exact same story. He was like “you paid for this shit?!”. The audacity, when he basically smoked lawn clipping when he was that age. This shit looks like what my cat barfs up when she goes outside all day and eats too much grass. 🥴

fredinNH

Plot twist- a whole bunch of us dads are still smoking. Did you actually see it go in the toilet?

InfernalGout

Was nothing trimmed in the 70's?

[deleted]

Sold by weight to desperate consumers, so no. Now if you had a bunch of leafy buds you'd lose customers to the person down the street with the bald testicle nugs.

Misterbluepie

Underrated comment.

ComfortableRing6978

Nope, it all natural and glorious

redhaiku_

That is Northern Lights, cannabis indica.

Slappaadabass

*sigh* no, it’s marijuana

gccumber

“Marijuana is a memory loss drug!”

bullseye2112

That’s not how it works!

LoveRBS

How would you know how it works?!

bullseye2112

Knock it off. I’m interviewing you.

heavenlydigestion

No! You said I'd be conducting the interview when I walked in here. Now, exactly how much pot did you smoke?

Moxhoney411

I have to admit that 1 of my favorite jokes is related to this. How do you stump a stoner? What were we just talking about?

[deleted]

Most underrated character.

tw1xXxXxX

Creed is one of the most beloved characters on the show. Most underrated character my ass.

[deleted]

If you go ask anyone who was a casual Office viewer, they will talk about Jim, Pam, Michael and Dwight while I think that Creed is an all-time great character. Maybe I identify a little too closely with him.

tw1xXxXxX

Fair enough 👍🏻

SpideySense12

I’d love to know what strains I was smoking in high school 82-84ish.

Donna421

I was just thinking the same thing (78-80-ish). I hadn't smoked in 30+ years by 2013. Life went to shit (divorce, laid off) and I went with my adult son out to the boonies to watch a meteor shower. He lit up and offered. Holy 🤬!!! I don't think I had more than 4 hits, and an hour or two later, he had to drive me home! 😂

SpideySense12

Yeah. I have a MMJ card and what you can get today is super potent. I can do 1 baby hit and it’s enough.

pursuitofhappy

that sounds like a cool experience with your son, my first modern experience was also while watching a meteor shower, think it was the perseid

[deleted]

I believe the scientific name is *D. Itchweed*.

[deleted]

ShwaAGg

CheRidicolo

I was right there with you, we’d sometimes get something good like “Afghani” with the striped seeds, “Indica”, “Skunk”, “Hawaiian”. The standard was otherwise some sort of Mexican sativa that wasn’t pretty to look at but gave a good high. This was south texas.

Bah-Fong-Gool

The tiger striped seeds! I haven't seen an actual cannabis seed in years and you just took me back to high school!

IHadTacosYesterday

What ever happened to "Skunk" anyways? I've lived in Northern California for most of my life, and back in the 80's and 90's, the high-end weed was usually skunk. Seems like that strain has completely disappeared

eternalapostle

Mids. Which I honestly preferred because it was WAY less intense than the bud now. Now, all I get is paranoid. I had to stop because it’s way too strong nowadays

shmargus

Oregano, pencil shavings

oceanofflavor

Mfs were smoking kelp

[deleted]

We stand on the shoulders of pioneers.

lamjm44

Makes sense why they used to call this the Devil’s Lettuce, strains look like they were grown in hell.

i_sigh_less

"Weed" also now makes more sense to me.

EdJamic8

No wonder that generation fueled the cocaine boom

DJSeku

I swear #3 and #7 were still being sold as mids in Florida. Tastes like a forest fire if you try to smoke it, but if you Butane blast it then take your time with the purge you get this perfect amber wax with the consistency of taffy that was looking and hitting like the stuff coming from Colorado back then, only at a fraction of the $60-80/g asking price. I didn’t trust the crackly poop soup that was being made and sold locally either(and for $40-50/g), so I just made my own wax to my own quality-control standards until I could afford to move to Colorado. Once I moved out here I started growing my own Jack Herer plants, although the past couple years I haven’t done so due to the pandemic and rising costs of everything. I can just get my grams for $16.99/each for sugar wax from a dispo, it’s more convenient that way. Cannabis works wonders for managing my Asperger’s and ADHD symptoms. For me it’s not a high, it’s a sense of normal. Fun fact: If you consume Cimitidine (brand name Tagamet) which is an over the counter antacid relief tablet some 20-30 minutes prior to consuming THC, you can potentiate the effects for several hours with a smaller initial dose. Cimitidine inhibits the release of the enzyme responsible for breaking down THC in the bloodstream. A friend of mine (a chemical-engineering major) offered that insight and I can confirm validity.

-castle-bravo-

Yeah you could smoke whole joints and get a nice buzz, now one puff and you go insane in another dimension..

PsychologicalCause45

Seriously man. I’d rather smoke an entire joint of CBD flower then 1 hit from a small bowl of Colorado marijuana. It’s so incredibly strong.

trocom01

Here in Washington State it's the same. The quality and taste is superb, but one or two tokes is enough to send most people I know on a four hour magic carpet ride through the galaxy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PsychologicalCause45

Yeah it’s too much. I wish I could find something between.

Adaptandovercome5

Ive given up smoking and vaping altogether, I always liked the mellow body high and relaxing part. Not so much the heady mental part. Delta 9 gummies low dose is the way for me.

alucab1

Do you mean delta 8? Delta nine is what you normally smoke with bud

wonkybingo

You get the chill thing from Delta 9? All the weed I’ve tried these days is way too strong for me, I just want a mellow high. Was gonna try Delta 9. Can you recommend the gummies you like?

drake90001

Delta 8 might be why they mean. Delta 9 is standard THC. Delta 8 is derived from hemp, but still gets you high. I find it far less paranoid and intense in your head.

Bah-Fong-Gool

You mean delta 8. Delta 9 is the THC we all know and love. Delta 8 is like "weed lite". It definitely has psychoactive effects, but at a much lower level than THC. Very similar feel but more of a body buzz with no confusion or paranoia and about half or a third of the potency of THC.

Lyndell

If you can find 2:1 CBD to THC that might work. CBD and THC compete for the same receptors.

Rogue_NPC

My fave medicinal for daytime is more CBD than THC. https://i.imgur.com/OqZYZ1o.jpg

[deleted]

Just mix CBD buds with dispensary pot. It’s economical and you skip the whole *am I dying* thing.

PsychologicalCause45

I suppose that is true. I’ll try it.

prms

I grew my own and it was a good bit milder than most of what I can buy here in california

thefookinpookinpo

The in between is weed with CBD. I've switched over to it from no-CBD high-THC weed and I love it. The strains I get usually have around 10% of both CBD and THC. The edible equivalent would be the "1:1" options. CBD is known to greatly reduce the side effects of THC, leaving you with a more relaxing less intoxicating high.

-castle-bravo-

Word, it’s not even recreational anymore, it’s just an ordeal…

Fast-Stand-9686

I miss the weed in high-school. The shit out there now is too much for me so I just stopped smoking altogether.

-castle-bravo-

Yeah feel that. I smoked a half joint after a long break, and it was great for about 10 minutes, then it was 4 hours of intense paranoia and over thinking, not chill at all..

eternalapostle

Yes. It’s way too strong now. Now, it just makes me paranoid as hell. The mids a before times just made you super chill

cbass717

I got for those 1:1 CBD to thc strains that are like 15% and they are nice.

mpbh

FWIW Thailand just legalized weed and it's weak enough to smoke a whole joint without dying. Felt like I was back in the 90s.

Forevername321

I'm not so sure. The illegal stuff that comes in compressed wads is weak enough to smoker a joint of, but has been available for years. The new strains that are sold is Bangkok dispensaries is stupid expensive and stupid strong.

[deleted]

Honestly all you need to do is cut your bud with cbd bud and you're golden. If you ratio it out to 2:1 cbd to thc flower you'll be lovin it

Fp1975

This is the stuff i need when i retire. Cant smoke it now, but this new stuff is potent. I need some of that old school weed with normal thc.

[deleted]

So many people say this, I agree too. It’s like alcohol. I never knew what alcohol by volume meant, I just knew I didn’t want to black out when I drank. Marijuana has the same kind of rating system now. You can buy a huge range of THC products with varying percentages. My first dispensary visit would always be the highest I could get because I assumed that’s what I always smoked. Now I get somewhere in the low to middle, like 17-23% and will sometimes blend it with CBD buds, which you can buy online. Cannaflower is my go to place. Sometimes I want to smoke hash, sometimes I want to smoke volume all day. There’s a strain for every occasion, and yeah, I wish we did have more low THC options. Don’t force me to go to Starbucks when I prefer Wawa coffee.

*Crying in red state*

homedepotSTOOP

It wasn't overnight in MI, it took a lot of hard work from hundreds of people. Even more when we consider the voters. But canvassers, petitioners, etc out there just to get decriminalized counties/ballot proposals for years. It can be done, just have to get people mobilized.

Krillinlt

Getting a medical card is relatively easy nowadays in most states. Got mine and I'm in a southern red state. Worth looking into. Tradeoff is you pay a premium at the dispensery (atleast here) but the convenience is worth it

alu_

If you're in the states and have a medical card or a legal dispensary, most places will have THC + CBD blends of flower, vapes, etc. They'll have lower THC % and the CBD helps cut down on the intensity of the high. They're great 👍

Mmm_Psychedelicious

You know you can just smoke less of it? Like 1/2 little hits? Even better, put it in a dry herb vape, and save your retired lungs from all the combustion byproducts.

tildenpark

#1. Schwag #2. Schwag … #16. Schwag

Kitchen_Equipment_21

Ill take #3

[deleted]

\# 3 is what got us here using the sinsemilla method. Before that they didn't kill the male plants letting everything go to seed.

boooooch

fuck it gimme #2

ChickenDelight

Several are decent just untrimmed

oh_you_kids

This is from the High Times Encyclopedia of Recreational Drugs, 1977. I had a copy, and immediately recognized it! If you're interested, there are free PDFs one can find and download, the cannabis pictures start at 197.

CashmanSr

I would stomp that if I saw it on the floor.

lemonedpenguin

I guess I'm mixing 3 or 4 of them into a joint and see 🤩

CharlieHologram

My throat burns just looking at them.

DudeThatsAGG

“Tide Stick, man?!” “Y’know! The stuff that’s tied to the stick!”

kakka_rot

We've come a long way, but these were also horribly trimmed.

reppynutz

Legit weeds.

DeathOfLife01

Back in my day we smoke that “real weed”, This is the real weed lol

kay_bizzle

Not just weed strains, I'm pretty sure this is high times magazine's award winning strains of 1977. Absolute ditch weed schwagg by modern standards

how-unfortunate

Damn, nobody trimmed ANYTHING back then!

SquishedGremlin

Do the curtains match the weed

Yodogzup

There has never been any strain to compare to the old Colombian Gold. Seedy and unremarkable in appearance. But the quintessential ‘dank’

[deleted]

There’s a reason we call it “weed”

no_anesthesia_please

Brings back some fond memories for this old man.

vonsolo28

We call that bunk or ditch weed.

seesucoming

Just a chip off the ole block

Ml124395

Columbia an Hawaiian in my day

Mr_Wisecup

Chiba and sinsemilla 🤙

[deleted]

Insane how far we’ve come

RegretsZ

I can see why they used to call it grass

SabbatiZevi

I hate all the new weed strains, they are way too strong. My old ass just eats/drinks CBD now

[deleted]

*The Oaxacan Sinsemilla* translates to "Oaxacan without seeds* this strain was the one found on the largest Mexican marijuana farm "Rancho Búfalo" when th DEA raided the ranch. Kiki Camarena was the informant who tipped off the DEA about the farm. This is what led to Kiki Camarena's abduction, torture, and murder. Fun fact: This strain is the bases for the weed we have today.

schizomorph

For those snubbing the old strains, in reality it doesn't matter how strong the weed is. You grow tolerant of even the strongest weed. The reason I'm saying this is because I really miss the high from old Greek strains. And there wasn't just on, but at least two where very memorable. The one from Crete smelt really nice but it felt light when smoking it. But 10 minutes after finishing it we would start giggling like crazy. The other one was from Kalamata (yes, the one with the olives). This was even lighter my friend told me i had to use quite a lot compared to normal weed. It smelt more like a herb than weed. If I remember well it resembled something between chamomile and oregano. It wasn't strong even using a lot, but it put me is such a great mood every time. It was great for everyday smoking because I didn't look stoned at all and the high wasn't at all disabling. It just put you in a mood where you where chatty, pleasant and giggly at times.

pixiedoo22

I remember buying dime bags and nickle bags back in the late 70s. Always had a good time. As many have said, the potency now a days is way too strong for me. A hit or two and I'm good. Can't do it a the time tho. Just an old Hippie. :)

Clean-Shift-291

~~Hawaiian~~ Floridian

raven_kindness

i get why they called it grass

Sarcasticlilbastard

This is India now lol

AlmostaGamer

My grandma told me a story about alcapolco gold once. “They don’t grow ‘em like they used to” xD

PomegranateMarsRocks

Sub 5% thc makes more sense after seeing this… would love to get my hands on it and some seeds tho. These genetics would be priceless
