Broken Window Serenade
Edit: Live like you were dying.
Back story. I was at work and had been for like 5 days and had been waiting on a call from my doctor in regards to my biopsy. I got the call got the news that I had cancer. I got off work and was driving to town when that song came on it slaps for sure.
Edit 2: After chemo and radiation the tumor is gone and all indications look like I am cancer free.
The Dance by Garth Brooks
If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
But really, any of these songs need some life experience attached to them. Both of those mean a lot to me.
Whiskey Lullaby - Braid Paidley, Alison Krauss. Reminds me of a childhood fear w my parents.
Cowgirls Don't Cry - Brooks Dunn & Reba McEntire, ironically.
And House That Built Me - Miranda Lambert GETS ME EVERY TIME. Grew up and spent most of my life in Colorado before moving, and I still miss everything about it to this day.
If you ask my wife
I got a car: George Strait / tell lorrie I love her: Keith Whitely
If you ask me
Whiskey lullaby: Brad Paisley / Maggie's song: Chris Stapleton
Almost any song by Hank Williams, start with Iām so lonesome I could cry, alone and forsaken, lost highway.
Personal favorite is My Last Days on Earth by Bill Monroe. There arenāt any words, but itāll talk to you if you listen to it. (His words)
The Brothers and Mobile Bay. Merle and George sing these back to back on their most excellent album: A Taste of Yesterdayās Wine. This is a top 5 all time solid gold country album.
Roy Clark: Yesterday When I Was Young
Jesse Daniel: Grey
Jimmy LaFave: Never is a Moment
Lonesome Bob: Where Are You Tonight? (It didnāt seem so sad until I read it was about his son that died)
Radney Foster: Angel Flight
Sunny Sweeney: Bottle By My Bed
Todd Snider: Waco Moon
Electrostatic by Courtney Patton. Another one of those names that would be huge if the country music world wasn't dominated by the same people that brought Death Row records to prominence.
Not all of these may be traditional country but more Americana or alternative country and southern rock.
JD Graham - Mama Donāt Cry

Jason Isbell - If We were Vampires
Jason Isbell - Stopping By

I'm a bit bias, but I still tear up every time I play "Hindsight". A song about breaking up with alcohol. Just celebrated 2 years sober & 7 years with my wife. We made it through - so it's not all sad!
I linked the live version because the song has come so far from it's original acoustic recording on the album.

Will the circle be unbroken - I like the Gregg Allman version, it really gets me, but Iām sure thereās other tearjerker versions by country artists too
Gone But Not Forgotten by Hank Williams III. That song was played at my son's celebration of life after he was murdered. Can't listen to it to this day without tearing up.
Chiseled in Stone by Vern Gosdin, There Goes My Life by Kenny Chesney, The Good Stuff by Kenny Chesney, In Color by Jamey Johnson, You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive (my favorite is) by Patty Loveless, Halley Came to Jackson by Mary Chapin Carpenter, Blue Ridge Mountain Song by Alan Jackson.
In Color - Jamie Johnson. This song reminds me of my wife's grandparents.
Almost home - Craig Morgan
3 songs by Jelly Roll that remind me how fragile my fight with addiction is. Save Me, Son of a Sinner and Need a favor
He Stopped Loving Her Today
Not just the lyrics. The arrangement is so fuckin perfect

I literally never listen to "Live Like You Were Dyin" either... depressing.
He sang that as his tribute to Toby Keith and he barely got through it. It had to turn it off half way. It was too raw.
When was that? Is there a video of it?
Right after he passed, there's tons of good video out there of it.
The Dance by Garth Brooks If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit But really, any of these songs need some life experience attached to them. Both of those mean a lot to me.

Where've You Been - Kathy Mattea
I don't know if it counts as a country song, but Desperado by The Eagles.
It doesn't, but it does count as music. Plus, Travis Tritt did a popular cover of an Eagles song, so it's country adjacent.
Clint Black covered "Desperado" on the same album that Travis Tritt's "Take It Easy" appeared on.
Apparently, [Kenny Rogers](https://youtu.be/D34XEvmXieU?si=mKPhxE3iYLQznYCN) also covered it for a movie.

The Dance - Garth
"Ghost In This House" by Shenandoah is one of the all time great breakup songs. Omg š
Whiskey Lullaby and Jamie.
The Walk- Sawyer Brown
The song isnāt necessarily the saddest but watching the music video to All Again by Charles Wesley Godwin gets me emotional.
Farewell Party
