The watermark can’t handle his, eh, hotness! 😂😅

happyLarr

Sure he doesn’t have that hairline anymore but I bet he still has the jacket. We all know he still has that suave confidence, those peculiar solo tangents, the way he seamlessly ties it altogether and the legendary sign offs. There’s nothing more I want in a sports broadcaster, apart from Apre Match.

BoredGombeen

He will forever be the voice of F1 for me. Brings me back to mid 90s every time I hear his voice

Practical-Answer-532

It will be end of an era when Peter retires alright despite him being a B or C panel member.

SitDownKawada

Genesis and Red Hot Chili Peppers, wonder is he still a fan

PaddySmallBalls

To be fair, he comes across as a proper professional broadcaster too. Polished delivery and always on point.

OoferIsSpoofer

Just don't ask her to pronounce Czechia properly

bigdog94_10

I thought tonight was the best night of punditry so far. Didi, Shay, and Kevin Doyle are all actually quite refreshing and know their stuff, and Jacqui brought the best out of all of them, I thought.

Practical-Answer-532

Doyle is painful. He talks like he is constantly sighing.

Jealous-Marketing420

I really like them as a punditry trio. McClean is like an irony and humour free version of Dunphy so I'm not a fan.

BlueBloodLive

Every time I see Didi I still think of the classic Apres Match bit where it's like "ah yeah you played in a Champions League Final...("I did").. "..and where are ya now, you're here, with me, in Dunphyland, so shut up!"

IrishFlukey

We have been talking all day about how Mícheál Ó'Muireheartaigh could make a poor match sound exciting. Even someone with his skills could not have made the England v Slovenia game sound good, so what hope for the panel?

shorelined

Hurley and the other lady who seems to be doing back-to-back Euros/GAA shifts have really impressed me, seem to actively enjoy talking about football

Buaille_Ruaille

Joanne nó craic Cantwell..... pianmhar

cianpatrickd

Joanne I always wear a jacket for some reason Cantwell

Buaille_Ruaille

Aw man u just realise we're gonna create a nickname for her now and it's gonna stick. Joanne 'the jacket' Cantwell

jacqueVchr

Strong schoolteacher vibes off her

Practical-Answer-532

Very much so. Especially during covid when they had 3 gaa pundits sitting on stools while she was standing.

fedupofbrick

Don't rate cantwell at all. Always chiming in with an opinion. It's not her job to do that. Her role is to present. Hurley is excellent. One moment with Cantwell that sticks out in my memory was that awful home game against Armenia and she criticised Ireland for not scoring more against 9 man Armenia fespite the two reds happening with around 5 minutes to go. She's brutal

Vitreousify

Yeah, you're dead on with her opinions. She was getting into argument with Cusak the cork keeper there a while back too. She gets these ideas on the game etc expects the pundits to row in behind her.

Jealous-Marketing420

> She was getting into argument with Cusak the cork keeper there a while back too. She was 100% right in what she said to Donal Óg.

twistyjnua

+1 on Jacqui she's great but Joanne Cantwell seems to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. You can't do everything.

NandoFlynn

I'm the same. Always had time for Jacqui but I dunno what Cantwell brings. She doesn't know her shit, she's not really got any charm....Christ I'm starting to sound like Joe Brolly 😂😂😂

shorelined

Possibly, but some of the male presenters are only a jack of one trade! Could be more of a sign of RTÉ sweating the assets

CCFCEIGHTYFOUR

Can’t remember which of the two ladies did commentary on LOI games during the Covid season. The complete lack of preparation and general disinterest cracked me up, the very definition of phoning it in.

WhiteCaps224

Great point. I get that they’re professionals; but they still retain a sense of “this is great, I’m getting paid for this!” enthusiasm which, when paired with good, knowledgeable questions, makes for a way better viewing experience.

horsesarecows

I agree completely, by far the best presenter. I'd love to see her get the job permanently for all the big matches, much like Bill did in the past. Very talented broadcaster and very likable.

mi1key

Can we all just agree on one thing with this weather you like or dislike the presenters they don’t have the banter like bill did and bill was ahead of bt sport but they are all in the miles behind the banter and analysis there but the old crew of bill and the lads was miles ahead of everyone else

Jealous-Marketing420

I think that direction comes from above. RTE put a lot of focus on making sports broadcasting entertaining in the 90s. You wouldn't get Apres Match greenlit nowadays for example.

ConorKDot

She's brilliant. Far better than Peter Collins or Joanne Cantwell IMO. I think Given, Didi and Richie would be the best panel RTE can put out at the moment. Maloney still makes RTE's coverage insufferable though. Him and Whelan are pure misery on commentary and it sounds as if they despise their job, yet they get all the big games now. Contrast that with the fun Hamilton and Cunningham seem to have working together, or the enthusiasm and knowledge Des Curran brings.

PaddySmallBalls

At one point Didi argued that Southgate needs to stop playing the same players over and over again when they don’t perform. She asked him who. He said Kane and Rice 😂

Seldonplans

Yeah caught that. I was waiting for who he was going to say and then justify it. He was caught on the hop and blurted out Kyle Walker first. Kyle Walker? Has Kyle Walker shagged Didis wife?

jacqueVchr

He also called for dropping Bellingham 😂

terracotta-p

The England-Are-Shite Porn is really something else these days, they just keep tilling that soil over and over, fresh with new ways absolutely decimating Southgate.

jacqueVchr

Tbf they are provided with ample material

Practical-Answer-532

The weird thing is they're now criticising him for not playing the form players. For years, everyone was saying Southgate was too loyal to players and not picking players on form. Then the last day they're saying Eze, Bowen have had good seasons but they're not the quality of Grealish or Rashford. If they picked Rashford and Grealish they'd be saying why didn't he pick the form players.

Icy_Ad_4889

Better than TOD as anchor anyway.

waddiewadkins

Didi,,, lean back, cock an eyebrow, be critical in monotone, cash check, fly back to Munich.

Work_Account89

They probably need to keep the same lineup for all big games. Who that lineup is I don’t know but it’s probably why Bill and the boys worked it was always them and they built a relationship

Jealous-Marketing420

They had preexisting relationships though from playing for Ireland (minus Bill obviously). Dunphy and Giles were friends after retiring too and had the famously unsuccessful era at Rovers.

Work_Account89

So we should get Robbie, Duff and Shay on?

Jealous-Marketing420

The modern equivalent in football terms to Giles and Brady would be Duff and Roy Keane. But that particular trio plus Bill are unlikely to be replicated. Imagine if Richie Sadlier had close personal connections to Duff and Roy Keane while also having a more successful journalism career and being a master troll.

Shoddy_Sky_7543

I

lastlaughlane1

Jacqui is brilliant! The best anchor at rte for the football for sure.

14thU

Just shows how much Billo is missed. He never shied away about his lack of knowledge of the game and let the experts go at it without needless interruption. Less is more

dropthecoin

"ah now Eamonn that's not fair".

Immigrant974

Just tell Kevin Doyle to stop doing that weird look upwards into space and we’re laughing.

HonestRef

Yeah I definitely agree here. Hurley is definitely better than Maloney and Cantwell. Given, Didi and Doyle are definitely the best panel we have left now too. I must say I was impressed last night. I hope they keep that line-up for the big games going forward. I will say though that I really miss Liam Brady.

Fantastic-Bid-4265

Didi has been excellent since his promotion to lead Pundit, he's taken the ball from Gilesy and ran with it.

luas-Simon

RTÉ will have female only panels soon

bigmassivepotoftea

Jacqui hurley calling duffer "cranky pants" in the last euros was top tier presenting.

Only-Indication8515

All the rugby talk has been Pathetic from all the rte channels . cahill,Nugent and the rest . Look at that eejit on against the head d O Brien having donal lenihan lieing for him on air . Then ye have a cahill and Nugent couldn't even tell The South African hooker's apart' and Malcolm Marx had a great big bandage on his head . All they do is talk nonsense and all ways over the referee. .rte is just insulting the viewers

Shoddy_Sky_7543

I know her personally and she’s the exact same in real life, very down to earth and really nice. I think that’s why she comes across well as well as being very knowledgeable and she was always very interested in sport.

Ehermagerd

Surprised she gets no flack for using the term “knackered” so much.

IndependenceFair550

Why? Using the word knackered for tired or decrepit is fine - it fits with the original meaning of the word. Using it as a derogatory term for a person is different.

Ehermagerd

Disagree. But to each their own.

IndependenceFair550

Well I hope I'm not wrong now haha. I use it for tired all the time.

raycre

She always pulls a weird face when she goes to an ad-break. Like she has just passed wind! https://preview.redd.it/wirr8pe4ev8d1.jpeg?width=170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=437236d1be2218a7f55a014cf52c1b1e2f93c7b6
