howtocreditcardchurn

This is my experience as well. Been churning for 7 years and last year was rejected for the first time and this year rejected for the AMEX ultimate. So things definitely getting harder. Having to play it safe has slowed down how fast I can churn as well. Hopefully things change as interest rates drop and credit is easier to obtain next year.

Second this. Been churning for years, comfortable holding 2-3 cards at once and getting the platinum cards (on a good income) but this year was my first rejection

SquirrelChieftain

Yeah might have to get rid of the NAB one first. Just feels weird to not have any credit card haha

notwhelmed

I wouldnt accept no disclosure on rejection - if they wont tell you on the phone, they may have sent a letter, but you can also escalate. My last reection from ANZ was reversed after a phone call, they didnt understand a salary sacrifice allowance and decided i must have an undisclosed loan...

knnhz

Weird. I just got a conditional approval for the 15k anz card with a 15k nab card and a mortgage, also over 100k. Did you ask why it was rejected?

SquirrelChieftain

I called them but they said they could not disclose.

Get a credit report (not just a credit score) and it will have positive/negative factors that the banks use to decide.

A weird thing happened to me with ANZ a couple weeks ago. I already have a platinum FF, no mortgage, not a huge amount of rent v my household income, and a small car loan. Making $140k per year. Tried to take the card from 6k to 10k so I’ve got some extra runway for a holiday coming up. After giving the bank what they asked for (pay slips plus bank statements because my pay goes into an ING joint account with my wife) I received TWO letters… one that declined me, and another that said it was under review and they’d ask for more information. With the ‘more information’ letter being dated two days after the letter where they declined me. But when I called them they said I was declined. So I paid out the balance and got approved for a NAB FF within 3 days at $12k 🤷‍♂️

SquirrelChieftain

Weird! Yeah I’ll look at alternatives to ANZ.

Adogsbite

No body needs a credit card - ever. Take it as a blessing and move on.

SquirrelChieftain

A fair take. Was just hoping to get some more QANTAS points with a fairly conservative cc.

Firstwind_

People that think flights are free because of points are misguided… unless you are churning to get the bonus signup points you are no better off. Credit card surcharges make up for any “free” points you get

talman_

Pretty sure if I get a cc and get points just for using it (1pt / $), I'm better off points wise if I used a regular debit card earning no points. Maybe I'm missing something here ?? 1 > 0

Gavin-Alol

Yeah nah

kayslmcc

It might be worthwhile to ask why you got rejected and based off that, ask for an appeal/ review? My current AMEX velocity was originally rejected but I appealed after getting my rejection letter and it got approved instantly.

hardwood198

Amex has been issuing auto rejections if you churn cards. Cancelled cards in the past 12-18 months seem to trigger this.

PromptDizzy1812

A single cancelled card in the last 12 months? That's ridiculous!

AMEX are shit now
