So cute, and when I see others refer to mistakes, I say they were lessons. You learned a lesson on how to properly do a stitch, or how to count, or how to “fix” a mistake. So, I call them lessons. When I do them, I call them GREAT BIG GLARING FESTERING MISTAKES because that’s all I can see. I’m sure if I studied yours, I might notice something, but if this is your first, you are on your way to learning a new and fun hobby. Be good to yourself, perfection is way over rated and it’s not worth kicking yourself over to achieve.
I agree with you. Mistakes aren’t mistakes they are lessons. One of the ladies at a crochet group I go to says to the people she teaches that if you make a mistake don’t pull it out keep going because you learn from it
I love keeping my unperfect little projects so I can see the progress I made! It's so much more rewarding than reusing the yarn. At least I can see that I did something in the last 2hours :D
This is your first lesson on how to make slight changes to a pattern to make variations. Well done! It seriously took my autistic rule-following brain entirely too many years to understand it was ok to make changes. Embrace this!
Ohhh this is just what I need! I recently bought two octopus toys for my niece and nephew but the toys weren't age appropriate for my youngest nephew and I felt bad that I didn't have anything for him. I'm going to try and make this for him. Emphasis on try 😅
Thank you!!!
It's just the place your soul can escape from. It's lore that you leave a piece of your soul in every little bit of art that you make, and the (often purposeful) mistakes are where your soul can escape from.
Besides, it is a learning experience too! I always expect to have some kind of a hiccup the first time making a pattern. Sometimes, it's a new stitch that the artist has a particular way to make it, or maybe their instructions are set up differently than I am used to (some times stuffing instructions are added after a piece is made when it would have been nice to read it as you went). Things like that. I'm the worst at synthesizing a pattern before I make it, so I usually don't read the pattern in full before I start, of which I don't suggest doing ahahah!
I think you are doing great!
I love thisss!! I just started as well and made a duck for a first, but quite literally just finished a reversible octo as well! It's my second project and a different pattern by Xuxu Crochet, but you've inspired me to try a bit harder on the mouth bc yours looks amazing! I would never guess this is a first project for you, I personally don't see any mistakes but like others said, its all learning <3 Keep up the great work <3

This is adorable!
My first was a turtle. I sewed his head in the wrong place. I didn't notice it until after I wove in the ends. I was so upset at first, but my dog immediately came up and stole it. He loves that dang mutant turtle so much. We only let him play with it under direct supervision.. It was a good lesson. Even something that is flawed will be loved.

That looks amazing! Way better than my octopus. I made a very similar Amigurumi as my first as well. But it didn't come out nearly as nice as yours lol.
This is fantastic! Great work - I've seen what you've said your mistake was, but it's not noticable at all - No one'll be looking at them side by side normally. It's lovely ❤

Perfection is not achievable anyway. Like never. So you are totally right that's it's not worth it to feel bad about it! :)
FWIW I’m not seeing any mistakes. Well done.
Thank you! The mistake is that I miscounted the stitches so the sad octopus is thinner than the happy one
And now you have history and lore to explain what made the octopus sad!
This is your first lesson on how to make slight changes to a pattern to make variations. Well done! It seriously took my autistic rule-following brain entirely too many years to understand it was ok to make changes. Embrace this!
Sounds perfect to me! Less sadness - Lol
THAT IS SO CLEVER!!! That’s a challenging choice for a first project - it looks fantastic!
I looove it!! Do you have the pattern link?

She is so very sweet and cute. Mistakes make it special and unique. I’d love to be gifted with this.
