I don’t have the skills for that, but you have a good idea. As far as planning how to get different sizes to match up, look at this. It groups the grannies into groups of 2 rounds, 4 rounds, 6 rounds, 8 rounds, 10 rounds and then charts how to lay them out. It uses all solid squares, but you wouldn’t have to. It’s genius! I’ve done it, just with one type. I recently got comfortable making your standard granny square to the point that I'm ready to give it a go. I have these 2 squares done & plan on just making a punch alternating the 2 colors. I was wondering if I should stick with just the 2 or add another color? Thanks to this discussion I am now considering that grid where I make different sizes. :note: to say these aren't attached yet, I'm also wondering if blocking will be necessary? But I guess I'll see how these turn out. https://preview.redd.it/zeqc4y55pdbd1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=246d02e236a45262b02dee151e6aafa356024126

If doing an entire throw you can do just black & yellow, personally I'd add another couple colors to play with & mix & match. Get different sizes by going up or down hook size. To have the neatest finish, block! I'd suggest sticking to the one size for now & mastering your skills!
