Yeah I subscribed to the NYT super cheap either in the UK or Europe some years ago, on some deal they had for like 4£ a month. After like a month they started charging me directly in USD (the first charge was in whatever the original currency was), and I’ve been paying $6.11 a month for full access ever since. I think the deal was supposed to lapse after a year but something about the currency changing I assume removed me from the deal without changing the price I pay.
I’m in the UK right now and can confirm they’re running a 3£/month deal for the first year for full access, and it looks like that’s their regular price for just the games subscription.
I don't know if the regular subscription gives you access to the crossword archives (I only have the games subscription) but there's a tab at the top that has the mini archive.

In case you don't know: there is a separate games subscription ($40/year). You don't need to subscribe to the NYT.
It was way cheaper for me. Like 12€ IIRC. Maybe try VPN to another country and see if you can buy from there.

Yeah, somehow mine priced in USD and I live in Spain but I got a promotion for $10/year indefinitely for games.

That is a glitch. Did it happen after finishing the puzzle/registering it as complete, or before the puzzle was able to register as finished?
