Meliá Marina Varadero

Holiday booked, knowing what you know now would you cancel and take a hit on the cost

I think if you have the chance to change the location, then yes. The beach there was truly beautiful, but it was the only good thing. I've booked a 5 star resort so my expectations were high, in the end it was an ok hotel.

Thanks for the reply, it’s appreciated

Are you people so poor you can only afford cockroach-infested hotels in Cuba?

[deleted]

Never change, Canadians.

Got home from Varadero a few weeks back. I’d suggest Mexico instead. Even Turkey apparently has really good golf courses. I wouldn’t go back to Cuba for a while. Beautiful beaches, lovely people but the trip on the whole was pretty poor. We went with people who have previously been and couldn’t stop raving about it, and even they said the standards had dropped off a cliff in terms of hygiene, amenities etc.

I know Varadero has a golf course and resort but I can't attest to any amenities. It might be to your standards or it might not. But cuba is beautiful in February. We're going in January.

I'm headed there in two weeks. I've been there 7 times before, dating back to 2002. The tourist areas have been massively upgraded in the 20 years since I first went. That said, even at the best of times, there have been issues. I've heard the pandemic really hit them hard and things have regressed. There will probably be shortages of some things, so bring what you need (and more to give away). Food is often bland in Cuba, so a small bottle of hot sauce can go a long way. Bring your own medicine and sunglasses and sandals. Don't expect a whole lot for shopping. Cuba is great for a quick, safe, cheap getaway to enjoy the beach, ocean and historical sites. But don't expect first world amenities. It's always worth spending a bit more on a better hotel, and eating out at a decent restaurant instead of the hotel buffet.

For an all inclusive Hotell I will definitely recommend: don't go to Cuba... Is another kind of turism there. Try DR or Jamaica. Cuba is only for the Explorer and for the people that are not into luxury nor service...is a Unique experience with nature and humble people... only through Airbnb and Locals.
