Sanitary pads are preferred. These products are very scarce in Cuba.

I would think that menstrual cups would be even more useful, since they last for years and need minimal upkeep. I bought one (along with some reusable cloth pads) eight years ago and haven’t purchased pads or tampons since.

Ignorant question: are most people aware of what these are? I will go to the store and look for them today, but I always thought you had to buy them online.

They’re usually sold at stores alongside other feminine products, at least in my area.

A friend of mine suggested menstrual underwear. Washable. Any thoughts? I’m a man for the record

If you have someone in mind and know their size, a few pairs of the underwear could work. However pads/tampons for many sizes.

Menstrual cups last years

trashtalkingscum

These underwear have been linked to cancer in the chemicals in the fabric. The Cuban ladies I know use tampons.

TerribleSyntax

I took menstrual cups for the women in my family and they still rave about them (though it took a bit of convincing for them to try them)

hahaha a towel... I remember one time there was 0 in the store and my mom had to cut several pieces of towel because we had nothing to use. It was early 2000's.

Yes, pads are preferred. The cuban government gives each woman 7 sanitary pads ("intimas") every 6 months. you read that right - only 7. people buy them in havana and sell in the provinces for about $2.50 for 7 pads, and they basically look like puffs of cotton, so american brands are higher quality. Pure speculation, but I dont think most Cuban women are aware of period proof blumers, and probably less so of cups. The ick factor for cups is probably greater than period proof underwear.
