I have happy memories of baby-gaming! Advice: get a bean bag. Very comfortable and less chance of falling. And then a few years later having a dictator-toddler in my lap telling me how to play Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion.

PomegranateSweaty4

I was using a boppy. It helps hold everything up lol. I’ll try the bean bag.

zonemath

Baby wrap or carrier is an option to free yourself. Bonus point : no risk of falling.

dhazleton

I have a picture of myself playing battlefield 4 while my youngest slept in a carrier. It was the only way I could get him to sleep when he was a baby.

unique_username-_-72

I did boppy in a chair, much like your picture here. Got many apex dubs a couple years ago with my first, looking forward to late nights this summer when the second arrives

clarky2o2o

Which version of Castle of illusion?

thomasbeagle

Xbox 360. It's great.

Shifftz

I used mom's breast feeding pillow for the baby to sleep on while I gamed 😅.

PomegranateSweaty4

Best thing since sliced bread

XXXthrowaway215XXX

boppy is a godsend for real

zonte94

The original Vilari gaming pillow

brimg87

This is the way. It works perfectly.

[deleted]

It's actually gold! My little one hates sleeping alone, but will sleep for hours of being held. Plop her into that thing on my lap and we gaming for hours lol

Mr-pizzapls

When my son was born, the Nintendo Switch just launched and I had a copy of BOTW. He loved it, I loved it, it was a great time.

PomegranateSweaty4

I was on a Battlefield bender for my first. Now I’m on a Zelda BOTW, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

jamesb454

Battlefield 1 was the game with my first. Such good memories!

mullanaphy

Switch was a godsend between its portability and easy on/off for stepping away. That Switch is now my daughter's and while I played BOTW when she was born, she's now playing TOTK. Although Untitled Goose Game is her favorite, which we beat together recently!

A_Malaproprism

My son spent two months in the NICU when he was born. I spent hours each day doing skin-to-skin with him while I played Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario U. Great times.

Jon_Henderson_Music

Lol same. That game brings back great memories for me.

cptcitrus

When my first, sleepless son was born I had spent all my money on a house, so I finally finished A Link to the Past on a raspberri pi. The second one got Ocarina of Time.

Evernight2025

Did the same with both of my kids. Countless hours have been spent that way letting them sleep while mom gets extended shut eye. Enjoy these moments.

PomegranateSweaty4

It’s much easier when you have something to keep you occupied during the night.

ACEJester

This was me almost two years ago. Elden Ring has just came out, and I would hold him while mama slept. I’d just farm runes while listening to chill music. Great times.

PomegranateSweaty4

A memory that would last forever.

TheAndyGeorge

same here!! so many runes farmed at weird hours of the day

Penquinsrule83

Many a Skyrim session holding my youngest. She would get mad when the fight music would come on.

PomegranateSweaty4

Skyrim was good. Always enjoyed it to pass time with the little one.

HomieApathy

Skin to skin Dadio

PomegranateSweaty4

I did it on and off. I think he wasn’t a fan lol.

BingoDingoBob

My baby was not a fan of skin to skin. I could be fresh out of the shower perfectly clean but she just never got comfortable on my chest until I put a shirt on

PomegranateSweaty4

Yeah, exactly. If it ain’t a tit, he don’t want skin to skin. He was cool wrapped in a blanket in my arms.

cyberlexington

I'm one of those men thats quite hairless on the body, cant grow anything resembling a beard, very little chest and leg hair, baby really liked skin to skin with me. A friend whose body hair resembles a gorilla the baby wouldnt go for it. At all. But gaming with sleeping baby even if it is three in the morning is absolutely great :D

PomegranateSweaty4

Right! This is great

Cromasters

I'm a pretty hairy dude. Daughter always enjoyed skin to skin with me. My son was totally uninterested in my holding him, unless I was actively feeding him.

TheCharalampos

Mines keen but only because she gets to rip out my chest hair.

Jimboslyce56

Woah. I gave up on consoles and used a switch lol. Props to you dad!

Aggravating-Plate814

As a PS gamer and dad that currently gets kids to bed I'm eyeing the PS Portal. Damn prices are really high though I have looked at switches ngl.

travelator

Steamdeck. Same price, Playstation remote play through Chiaki is fucking unreal, PLUS you get access to your Steam library.

PomegranateSweaty4

I use both but I cannot give up my big consoles. I’ll be on pc again someday

AllThingsEvil

Decoy keyboard comes in handy

morningafterpizza

My son loves my mechanical keyboard, I need to get him a broken one. Can't have him breaking mine, they don't make this model anymore :( (Logitech G710+ with Cherry Switches)

schkmenebene

If you buy him his own, as in you both go out for the sole purpose of getting him his own keyboard, he will love it and you can hopefully keep your keyboard to yourself... hopefully.

AnonDaddyo

Didn’t game with him right off the bat but when he was a few months old I was playing Sifu and he would legit chuckle at all the sound effects.

PomegranateSweaty4

Gaming started at 1 week

Educational_Ride_258

Yeah Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 remake, with gunsmiths, 2500 attachments, 3 millions fucking guns - Dr D

Jonas_Venture_Sr

You need an ottoman. You should be able to kick you feet up, you deserve it.

PomegranateSweaty4

The ottoman is behind my chair lol. It blends into the couch to make a massive bed. I cannot kick my feet up while gaming. It just ain’t the same lol.

PBaz1337

This was me with Dark Souls 3. The first video game I ever played was Legend of Zelda (the OG) when I was 3. I now have a picture of my 3 year old playing Ocarina of Time. I've never been so proud to pass the torch in my life.

PomegranateSweaty4

My oldest is on a Super Mario kick. We play a lot of co-op.

PBaz1337

My little guy loves Mario Kart! I'm taking full advantage of him being the age where everything dad does is awesome 😂

PomegranateSweaty4

Mario Kart is always a good choice. I’m going to buy Super Mario Bros. Wonder and get on that for a while.

PBaz1337

Heck yeah

SwordofGlass

Idk how you can play a Souls game with a baby.

PBaz1337

You can but I recommend the Claymore instead. Damage scales much better.

Kaiser-Rotbart

I chuckled at this, just wanted you to know that.

PomegranateSweaty4

Truuuu hahah

Mister_Doc

I’ve been playing Bloodborne lately, you just accept that sometimes you’ll have to die and step away if the baby needs attention and you’re not near a safe place

mm1712

Hell yeah brother

itdeffwasnotme

I did this with the Harry Potter game hast spring. Enjoy these moments.

AskMeAboutMyHermoids

Risk of Rain 2 for me..

upstatedreaming3816

AP rounds are good, but I prefer the high velocity ones

miketons

Our guy wouldn’t sleep unless held for the 1st month straight. I crushed a lot of Netflix between the hours of 7pm-3am until my wife’s “shift” started!

Titanic_Doorknob

Hey dad! I worry about gaming from possible overstimulation from the tv. What are your thoughts? We’ve been sitting in a dark house to try to out him down during the witching hour. It’s our first (2.5 weeks old) so we aren’t sure if he is fussy for the sake of being fussy or if the tv is keeping him up somehow.

PomegranateSweaty4

Different situations my friend. I would say I wouldn’t worry about the tv. Most cases your baby may struggle with colic or dietary issues. My son does well with lights and TVs but it all varies. I switched his formula once and after that he was good.

PomegranateSweaty4

It’s trial and error. What works for some parents won’t work for others. You’ll find your rhythm! That’s what makes parenthood such a blessing.

Titanic_Doorknob

Thank you sir! I think we’re finally starting to get into a rhythm. He’s eating well and isn’t too much trouble at night - overall, we are pretty lucky. It’s just been the late day fussiness that we have to tackle yet. Happy gaming!

NewTonx2

I wrapped an blanket around myself. Kept her noice and snug to me no change of falling

NiftyySlixx

Hell yeah, I do this sometimes too but it takes a lot for me to hold back my reactions to things in the games sometimes haha. You on CoD? also INB4 chodes invade the comments section being nasty and acting holier-than-thou while disguising it as concern or care.

AdamAntCA

Seriously. I had to just play some no man’s sky the first couple months at night. Great way to knock out some campaign games lol. So much better doing the overnight shift too when mom really needs that recovery sleep and waking every 2 hours leaves you absolutely miserable.

PomegranateSweaty4

Surprisingly enough I did well with cod and the baby lol. As long as I’m playing with my usual party I’m usually fine.

NiftyySlixx

Nice I’m glad it worked out 💪

Redenbacher09

Kinder pack baby carrier was my baby weilding weapon of choice. I could stand up to rock them back to sleep, and get snacks!

PomegranateSweaty4

I couldn’t get comfortable with the carrier sitting down. I felt too restricted

chicknfly

Getting him ready for school, I see Edit: no downvotes yet, but I’m standing my ground. This is gonna hurt the karma 😅

PomegranateSweaty4

Hahahahaha

TomLikesGuitar

It's just not funny enough to be worth making light of children being murdered. If you had some sort of worthwhile punchline then I have no real issue with joking about anything but your joke is just "Call of Duty, lol that like school shootings"...

chicknfly

While my joke is dark with a twist of absurdity, yours promotes toxicity. I hope you’re aware of that. Just downvote the comment that you find offensive and carry on, bud.

TomLikesGuitar

Nah dude. Be better.

chicknfly

I left the US for a country that doesn’t have school shootings seemingly every week and where guns aren’t the leading cause of death for children. I think I’m doing pretty alright. (And so is my toddler) Now excuse me while I boot up Animal Crossing and teach him how to farm our rural property.

TomLikesGuitar

Neat. Still a bad taste joke.

ScrodumbSacks

Ok, I’ll ask: what game is this?

JustAcivilian24

COD!

SmoothOperator89

I prefer halibut.

Aggravating-Plate814

Sounds like a delicious fish taco

ScrodumbSacks

Thought that, but ammunition selection threw me off. What section do you get to pick ammunition? I typically stick to zombies and multiplayer…so maybe the campaign?

PomegranateSweaty4

Warzone. I was customizing some weapons system.

JustAcivilian24

Nah you can do it in the gunsmith in multiplayer and Warzone. OP is most likely playing MW3 or Warzone

ScrodumbSacks

Interesting. Guess I’ll have to make more time! I’m just happy to play once/week with a best friend that lives across the country, so I usually just dive in quickly

ThatOneGuy35312

Bro playing COD. My 4 year old likes it too much. 😂

Stowa_Herschel

That's the way it goes sometimes haha feels like yesterday I was wrapping up Ace Combat 7 while our boy was in a carrier!

SpringsPanda

I love this so much and I play CoD but please don't keep playing that game around your kid. Not even really because it promotes guns heavily but just the community in general. It's sooooooo awful.

PomegranateSweaty4

I am a firearms instructor. My 6 year old is proficient in weapons manipulation lol. He shoots a suppressed h&k mp5 with ease lol. I don’t allow him to play the rated M games though. He’s a Switch, Minecraft, Roblox kid.

SpringsPanda

You do you then man. To each their own.

jesusgrandpa

It’s much better than Super Mario. I don’t want my son growing up and becoming some psychopath that stomps turts all day

Toysolja13

I did this with my bubs, usually did skin to skin for the binding part. Would fall straight asleep and gave mumma bear a much needed break

pingle1

If any of yall know where I can get a handheld gaming device that I can play Super Mario 64 or Mario kart 64 I’d be very appreciative. Nintendo 64 was the last gaming system I owned and would love to have a way to play those games.

JBDreamerie

Steam Deck with emudeck software. Blew my mind when I got it a few months ago

Mister_Doc

You’d have to get the online subscription with the buy-up “expansion pass,” but the switch has both games on the online membership

easybakeevan

When my son was that age I switched from pc gamer to Nintendo switch because I could hold him easily with each controller in my hand. I’m still looking for a nice set of controllers that are separate in each hand. I love it. Grats dad on keeping the dream alive.

SKRIMP-N-GRITZ

MW3!

PomegranateSweaty4

Sadly, no. Just resurgence quads.

SKRIMP-N-GRITZ

Nice! I played free DMZ during MW2 for a long time. Good free modes imo.

beaulook

My 6 year old is my partner in gun fight. He’s damn good too

Jon_Henderson_Music

Get one of those kangaroo pouch shirts. That kept my little guy passed out and I was able to freely move around. I gamed during the night shift while Mom slept.

PomegranateSweaty4

What you don’t see is mom in the other room on DMZ smfh lol

BoldWarSeer

I have super fond memories of sitting at my computer playing some vampire survivors one handed holding a newborn on night shift after a feed. I miss those bonding sessions. Now I have a two year old who will violently yell if he cannot watch my wife or I play a game. Making gamers. Good job dad.

AnonDaddyo

My partner decided to just breast feed instead of me getting up to bottle feed at night. I’m still salty about it months later. My little dude would stare directly into my eyes while drinking almost like a thanks for being here for me dad. I miss those sessions too.

Badvevil

I couldn’t do call of duty lol I would be jumping around corners in my chair poor child would be on a roller coaster. But I did play hogwarts legacy while holding my 2 month old had some great times and some great 6-8 hour straight gaming sessions while holding one of my 2 twins

WutTheHuck

Love it. Guarantee every gamer dad has done this.

prompted_animal

My 3 month old likes tarkov Which is probably not the best, but fuck it were havin fun

LAURAPALMER666

Where we droppin brother

moltentofu

I watched two entire seasons of The Last Ship in the first months of my daughter’s life because you always take the baby after she eats at 2am… and 5am. Big ups dad!

He-Made-Me-Do_It

Ammo mods are a waste unless they're incendiary ;) haha jk lol on a real note though theres nothing better than playin with the baby haha

MoneyMik3y

I know that all too well!

rustinpeace1734

Nice, I remember I marathoned both Spiderman and miles morales when my daughter was born and it was both the best naps for her and mom and I had a great time bonding

PomegranateSweaty4

There’s always a sweet memory that I enjoying listening to that we could all, as parents, could relate to. My first born I watched Avengers: Infinity War. To this day I’ve watched it over 300 times.

Old_Cat_9534

Ok since it hasn't been asked yet, why is the picture of the Eiffel Tower sideways?? 🤔

PomegranateSweaty4

Great question. They’re just sample photos in the picture frames. We’re waiting to put pics in em

Old_Cat_9534

Haha fair enough. Well I'm sure u won't have any trouble finding pics for them with the new bub around 😁

warm_sweater

I was too zonked to play games for the first 9 months or so after my kid was born, but I read a ton of books and watched a lot of TV while she napped on me! The best was her sleeping on my legs while I watched Mad Mad Fury Road, I was so scared of her waking up and I wanted to watch the whole movie so bad I didn’t move for the entire thing.

SuperSecretMoonBase

Nice wall decor.

PomegranateSweaty4

Thank you. It’s Hobby Lobby

Wotmate01

My wife was in the hospital for only three days after our son was born, and because we had discussed it previously, she was doing breastfeeding and pumping so I could bottle feed. When they both came home, I cooked dinner, then ordered my wife to bed at 8pm. I sat on the lounge with our son watching TV, changing him and feeding him ONLY as needed. Changed and fed him at 2am, then put him in his cot and went to bed myself. He woke up at 4am needing to be changed and fed, but my wife had got a solid 8 hours of sleep, and I slept through it. We kept this system going until he was sleeping through the night at only 3 1/2 months, and neither of us suffered from sleep deprivation.

mikedangerous

Not gaming related, though I do my fair share of that too, but I remember using my time with baby as an opportunity to watch all the movies that my ex-wife wouldn't watch with me. Tagging myself and the baby on Facebook as "feeling excited", watching "The Predator".

stirling1995

Same for me I can only get on COD if she’s asleep in my arms and I either woke up before mom or she’s also taking a nap.

Brochswerebrothels

Awww man, those were the days

eachfire

Aw yeah. When my son was born in May, I spent some glorious afternoons on my leave playing TotK with him asleep on my chest. Heaven. I would look up and joke with my wife: “I don’t see what’s so goddamn hard about this parenting bit!” Now my son is 8 months and I haven’t played the game since August. Sorry, Zelda, we’ll come find you someday.

bobinator60

This is the way!

we_are_sex_bobomb

Weird thought: I’ve gotten really good at playing Call of Duty while holding a baby, and that is a life skill I will never need to use again.

psymonprime

Currently going through Jedi Survivor with my son, 5, in the same spot. It's the best part of my day.

this is beautiful
