Turns out, I didn't eat as much as I think I did. I started tracking my calories and macros and surprisingly only consumed like 2000-2500 per day.
I started going to the gym 3 times a week for the first time in my life ([Stronglifts 5x5](https://stronglifts.com/5x5/) is an excellent started program). I felt quite uncomfortable, but the gym is a lovely place with lovely people who only want to help you. I started eating up to 3500 calories to gain weight. This literally required eating at times when I didn't even want to, like a handful of peanuts after diner to hit my protein goals. But it got easier and I gained more than 10kg in just under a year.
Anyway, I want to emphasize again that you're not unhealthy and if you feel good about yourself, don't feel like you have to do what I did. I just wanted to share my experience. I'm now more confident and in shape than ever!
