That's Yuya Takahashi's work there, he had some of the most standout parts in the TOP because his style emulated classic DBZ. I agree. There really hasn’t been any “life” to hair since DBZ. SSJ Blue basically looks like solid crystals on their heads. It would be nice to see more hair movement when there is high winds, being knocked around, flying, etc. obviously it’s more work for the animators, but even the smallest signs of movement do make an impact.
It’s not something specific to Blue. In the modern Yammamuro designs, SS1 looks like that too. In the Broly movie, however, both SS1 and SSB have the more natural “flowy” hair.

Honestly? Gohan. When he first went super saiyan dude had so much hair he looked SSJ3.
The haircut did a job job of giving him a goku look, while looking more neat and tidy, which relfects his personality. The hair plus goku outfit does a great job of giving homage to the two men who made Gohan who he is.
Gohan’s Cell saga look is easily his best, and I personally love the SSJ hair during that period. Not totally amorphous but still moved when the characters moved. By the Buu saga, the hair just looked like a template to draw (which has gotten even worse in Super)

This was the moment where Gohan’s whole character came together for me. He enjoyed training, hated hurting others, was at peace with most things and could finally stand up for himself and his friends properly. Enjoying a peaceful and effortless SSJ form made sense for him here.
After this point the writing of Gohan’s character went downhill and the fan service power ups without seeing him work for it are annoying. That’s just sloppy DB writing, and only my opinion though.

As for the order, I think it goes Trunks>Goku>Vegeta>Gohan. I think they butchered trunk SSJ hair later on in the series though. It looks perfect during his first arrival, but later on (like when he kills cell in him timeline) I think it looks way worse. It’s to defined, and it’s high and tight in the sided. His original super saiyan hair was flowy and perfect imo.

Goku, followed by gohan. Goku's ssj hair on namek after everything is so damn majestic looking and just legendary. Gohan had badass ssj hair with both the long hair in the hyperbolic time chamber and the shorter cut during the cell games.
Personally I like gomus and trunks a.d Gohan but only when he goes ssj2 I find it weird that it keeps its shape while in ssj but gokus goes up.
Even weirder with Gohan is during top when he uses potential unleashed he gets that bang which seems weird considering he had none normally

Trunks' I like the way in its first appareance when it slowly rises up from the transformation and into its design. It's just so different to all the others because even Gohan has his Dad's spiky hair.

Gohans SSJ hair was lame imo. I hate how the back is all blocky, and that it looks the same as his base hair, just yellow. I know Vegeta’s is the same as well, but his already stood up straight so there’s not much you could really change with his. As for the order, I think it goes Trunks>Goku>Vegeta>Gohan. I think they butchered trunk SSJ hair later on in the series though. It looks perfect during his first arrival, but later on (like when he kills cell in him timeline) I think it looks way worse. It’s to defined, and it’s high and tight in the sided. His original super saiyan hair was flowy and perfect imo.

Goku's is iconic as the first. Vegeta's is just Vegeta Blonde. Gohan not getting a gold bowl cut is a damn shame to this day. Trunks was the best, especially the long hair version.

Now that I think about it, the transformation doesn't change as many hairstyles as I thought. Vegeta's and Gohan's hair is mostly the same (for SSJ1, anyway). Also, hey, Goku's hair in that pic is pretty much the bedhead style from UT. Dramatic *windswept* locks. Probably gonna go with Trunks. His is probably the most drastic change (there are now spikes where there used to not be, which helps sell the difference), and his bangs look kinda fluffy.

A little off topic.. I think it would be cool if they could still chill in super saiyin cause they mastered it or whatever.. I don't know if the woke premise was filler? Or maybe a way for Toriyama to get away with not using all that black ink, and then he forgot lol. But yeah, I think it was a cool idea. How do you think it would've changed up the later transformations if they could still chill in super saiyan x because of mastering the technique, or moving up, or whatever the explanation was..?
Goku, followed by gohan. Goku's ssj hair on namek after everything is so damn majestic looking and just legendary. Gohan had badass ssj hair with both the long hair in the hyperbolic time chamber and the shorter cut during the cell games.

Personally I like gomus and trunks a.d Gohan but only when he goes ssj2 I find it weird that it keeps its shape while in ssj but gokus goes up. Even weirder with Gohan is during top when he uses potential unleashed he gets that bang which seems weird considering he had none normally

Gohan, trunks, goku, vegeta. Gohan because his young ssj2 form against cell is pretty much the only super saiyan form I think of for him Trunks because of his turning scene, where he's crying over Gohans body and his purple hair floated upwards in flashes of yellow before he fully turned. Then I just think goku's looks better than vegeta. I've realized my rankings are influenced pretty heavily by how much I liked their most initial impactful transformation.
Goku vs Coooler was amazing with the washed-out, wavy hair. It looked so soft and real unlike the stiff hair that came afterwards. Vegeta looks like a chad here but Trunks probably takes #2, and Gohan last. All good designs.
