Hex: Haunted Ground

FloggingMcMurry

I apologized to my friends that I'm probably breaking Haunted Ground. It was Devour Hope. And Thrill of the Hunt was broken later.

Phionex141

If I was the killer Id be on suicide watch

[deleted]

Yeah obviously it was Devour hope, it always spawns like this. Haunted grounds spawns hidden in random dead zones and never even gets seen. If yall ever get bored of lethal pursuer start running devour and begin every match running directly for it. You'll find minimum 3 people.

TheJanitorEduard

I've unironically used Devour over LP in Jeff lobbies. It practically hard counters Distortion because of how much the Powers That Be hate hood Devour spots

Gau_Gau

There is a totem spawn spot in Yamaoka that was fully covered by the bamboo trees. You can't see that totem with your eyes. I got the hex spawned at that location several times.

cat_that_uses_reddi

you know the exact same scenario happened to me as in the clip but then when I broke the totem, it was hunted ground

FloggingMcMurry

That's what I figured it had to be lol

Necromancy-In-Space

Hex spawns are fine! Totally fine!

FloggingMcMurry

I feel a fix for this would be to have the Hexes light after a short duration... So I start the game here but the totem is dull, so I move on... then Hex Ruin, DH, whatever lights within say 5-10 seconds of the match, just to prevent an immediate cleanse like here, allowing the killer to potentially get some value from the perk.

Necromancy-In-Space

Completely agree, I'd even give it a full 20 seconds! Survivors who spawn near a totem might still wait out that 20 to check if they spawn on a totem, but that could give you time to defend it or worst case, at least waste 20 seconds of at least one survivor's time.

FloggingMcMurry

And totems usually spawn near gens anyway so there is still a bad luck chance of a hex spawning at a gen being worked on

MagicianXy

The hex shouldn't even be revealed until the effect actually starts happening. For Ruin, the totem appears as soon as someone lets go of a generator for the first time. Blood Favor appears once someone gets injured. Devour Hope appears when the killer gets the first stack. Etc. etc... The only odd one out is Haunted Grounds, which doesn't have a specific condition where it's first revealed. For that one maybe it just reveals itself randomly within the first minute of the game. Note that I **don't** mean the totems "spawn" into the match late - what I'm imagining is that the hexes are already assigned totems exactly like they are now, but they aren't actually revealed as hex totems until conditions are met. (Kind of like how the hatch is spawned into the game immediately but isn't visible until there's only one survivor left.) The hex tied to the totem will be removed if it's cleansed, even if the hex hasn't been revealed yet. This gives survivors an incentive to actually clear totems early if they suspect the killer might be running a hex that hasn't appeared yet, instead of basically ignoring them unless they have CoH. It also opens the door for a cool perk that camouflages hex totems to look like regular boon totems.

Swayz0r5000

I automatically read this in OhTofu's voice

panicky_goblin

read your other comments and im honestly surprised the killer didnt immediately dc after you cleansed it, i cleansed a DH totem at the beginning of a game once and got an immediate dc because of it

FloggingMcMurry

I'm shocked too especially with how common it is even with a penalty. I just posted a short compilation of my games yesterday (not all of my games) where I kept getting people leaving the game. Honestly I wouldn't have blamed the killer for losing his totem before the match started. That being said, I was killed in this game. I locked the locker down the hall (you can see it while the camera is panning on this clip) after cleansing and Dredge caught me so...

--fourteen

Same! I have more killers DCing on me than my own teammates anymore which is odd. At least if the killer quits, it’s quickly on to the next instead of trying to win a 3v1.

FloggingMcMurry

My compilation from just my few games the other day lol https://www.reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/comments/zei3zb/you_get_the_gist_compilation_from_yesterdays/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Vortigon23

I remember an OTZ video where he had Lethal and 2 hex perks. Saw them spawn on his hex totems, made a bee-line for them, and couldn't save them. Meanwhile sometimes there are bugs that put totems inside of lockers and they are impossible to cleanse. Map design in general needs an overhaul.

Nawafsss04

That's the same video where he still got a 4K because the Pig add-on that made him see auras of survivors who removed boxes helped him? When I saw that beginning I felt so awful for him.

Vortigon23

Yeah, I remember watching that and being like "I would have DC'd right there."

LeeBMK002

Most hidden Hex totem

FloggingMcMurry

I was tempted to just leave it... as a fellow killer "main" who never runs Hexes anymore because they go before the first gen

LeeBMK002

And then its DH or HG

FloggingMcMurry

This was DH and TotH was found later. Dredge was left with Brine and Tinkerer with the locked-locker aura read

LeeBMK002

Yep DH one of like 4 usefull hexes

FloggingMcMurry

If it stays up longer than 0-1 tokens

LeeBMK002

Dbd exist long enough to even casual player knows where the totmes might be

FloggingMcMurry

I will hold my stance that, maybe 4 years ago Hexes and totems were for killers. Buy especially with Boons, totems are for survivors. They are too savvy on spawn locations not to mention how easy to is to find a map that'll rat out the most well hidden of totems. Scourge Hooks are more reliable as the hooks are still the killers

antunezn0n0

wild how we have ten hex perks and half of them are just to protect your other hex perks. survivors get to consistently apply boons while killers get to cry

Pretty_Version_6300

They chose to bring RNG builds. Let them deal with the consequences to counteract those games where they get an uncleansable totem spawn >:)

Cats_N_Coffee_TTV

Hey, it's the opening to Vittorio's trailer!

Doctoralex2

Ty for reminding me to never run totem-perks

FloggingMcMurry

It's my civic duty

crvnchhh

There was one on Hawkins like this where you were so close it instantly shows the prompt to cleanse after the camera turns.

InsanityVirus13

There really should be a thing on how close you're able to spawn next to a totem lmao.

Teh_W4rhe4rt

"oMg RuIn mEtA wAs sO MuCh bEtTeR." Yeah....I wonder why.

MLG_BLOBFISH

MAKE THEM SPAWN THE SAME WAY THE LAMENT CONFIGURATION SPAWNS AT THE START OF THE MATCH OH MY GOD

Chafrador

Me literally every time I run Hex perks. Seriously tho, they need to change something about them so it's not so much RNG-based.

Deya_The_Fateless

On principle I never clense totems if I spawn on top of them like this, it's just not fair to the killer. However I will go back to it after the first gen pops, if someone else hasn't cleansed it already and I'm not on hook.

EntrepreneurAsleep57

Hex: Retribution

FloggingMcMurry

As one who pays killer a lot and still tries to get value out of Hex perks... this was so wrong. I couldn't leave it

gamerjr21304

I remember having a depressing game on the oni map. While playing as slinger I got to watch in full detail with lethal as the survivors cleansed both my hex totems which spawned next to each other across the map from me where the survivors spawned.

FloggingMcMurry

I have had these games too lol its so tempting to dc, take the penalty, try again

ZombieOrchid

I had a match once against a Blight on Midwich. I spawned into the match, took like 3 steps, and found a lit totem. I did cleanse it and it was Undying so he still had one left. He killed us pretty quickly because SoloQ. I talked to him in the chat after the match and we kind of bonded over how terrible hex totem spawns can be xD I tried using Devour Hope once and I didn't have Undying. My totem spawned like 6 inches away from a gen, out in the open. I was like "Oh, yeah, that's a great spot. Everyone knows Survivors don't do gens." I pretty much never use hex totems because I don't trust them to stay up for long. The only one I'd likely use is Undying but just for the aura-reading and I have better perks for that xD I'd love to be able to use Blood Favour, though...

Particular-Oven-56

You lucky bastard I wish devour would spawn Infront of me everytime

DeadRabbitGirl

I try to be nice if it's THAT obvious and close and give it at least a few seconds to see if the killer will come check on it. Then I go behind their back and break it.

OliveGuardian99

I feel like some of these Killer totems should only light after the first hook to give them a chance. Plaything works like that and it makes it viable.

FloggingMcMurry

Ruin needs to be considered. Maybe the totem ignites when a gen is interrupted? And then the perk stays on as normal until cleansed??

Nawafsss04

Most hexes shouldn't light up until their effect becomes visible. Haunted, Devour, TotH and Retribution should light up after 30 seconds.

FloggingMcMurry

I agree. Devour Hope stays unlit until that first token is earned

TGCidOrlandu

Devour Hope is surely OP lmao

FloggingMcMurry

Especially in this game lol
