The shortness is a strengh for me; if I'm bored I'll just do a quick playthrough of DeS. The other soulslikes are too much of a time commitment for me to do that—have to be in the mood.

Kagemuna

How many hours does a quick play through take you normally?

InterestingJamal

If im rushing it mabye around 10-12 hours idk if thats normal thought my first playthrough took lkke 25 hours or more since i was doing everything without missing anything.

Glock_18

if you rush and are skilled you can clear it in 6-8 hours easily.

Elliptical_Tangent

>How many hours does a quick play through take you normally? I'm not sure. It's more about how long it feels than how long it takes. And it feels like I could knock it out without much commitment. I almost always go for the Meat Cleaver (with Curse Weapon) and Lava Bow, so I tend to breeze through it fairly quickly.

mnkyB1zz

Same. That’s why I struggle with ER, it’s overwelmingly long for me.

Ziekfried

You can clear elden ring pretty fast actually. Just follow the golden path and do nothing else and you’ll be done in a few hours assuming you can defeat the bosses with what you get on the golden path or Ofc ng+ it.

stinkus_mcdiddle

Same, it can be a fun little boss rush game if you want

Efficient_Elephant25

It is the best.

CalamityGodYato

Agreed. After playing all the Soulsborne games except DS2, Demon’s Souls is my second favorite behind Bloodborne. It’s not annoyingly hard (being annoyingly hard isn’t a bad thing though), it’s not super long (I don’t mind it being shorter, it’s nice not having to play a game for over a week to get all the way through it), the bosses are fun, the areas are fun, and it’s graphically the best looking game I’ve ever played.

wicker771

DS2 is great

CalamityGodYato

I’ve been avoiding it due to all the bad stuff I’ve heard about it. Although, more recently, I’ve been told by a few people that it’s much better than the bad comments make it out to be

wicker771

I've played them all. I liked d 2 more than d1 and d3. It's regarded as the black sheep but it's not bad, it's still an excellent game, it's just a wee bit different

CalamityGodYato

I doubt I’ll like it more than DS1, but I could see myself liking it more than DS3. If I’m being honest, I find DS3 to be the weakest of the Soulsborne games. Amazing game, I just found all the others to be more fun to me with Bloodborne at #1, Demon’s Souls Remake at #2, and Elden Ring at #3

wicker771

I would without hesitation put ER, BB, DeR over DS2.

CalamityGodYato

Oh ok so it sounds like you think like me then, with those 3 at the top? I haven’t played Sekiro yet either though, but that’s the next thing I’m playing

wicker771

Oh yea those 3 at the top. Never played Sekiro, that's the only one left

badfroggyfrog

Don't sleep on DS2, it's great! A few quality of life things people didn't like but it's easy to adapt to them. Has the best weapon and armour range in the series and there's loads to like in it. Like you I was put off by the bad press but grabbed SOTFS on sale and absolutely loved it. The DLC stuff is some of the best Fromsoft IMO

thats_good_bass

Shulva is straight-up the best dungeon in Soulsborne imo

thats_good_bass

DS2's my favorite Dark Souls game. If you liked DeS, you'll probably like it--imo, in many ways, it feels more like an alternate take on a follow up to spiritual follow-up to DeS than a sequel to DS1. It's got some low-yield jank to it throughout, but it's also brimming with fun ideas. That said, if you choose to play it on PC, the controller deadzones are bit borked; you can fix that with a little tinkering with the steam controller configuration settings, but thought ya oughta know about that ahead of time--I can dig up the config fix I use, if you like. [Also, consult this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls2/comments/foemaw/so_you_just_bought_dark_souls_2/) before starting.

Arshiaa001

Dude, demon's souls is your second favorite despite all the shit it gets, how have you not tried DS2 yet? It's magnificent.

CalamityGodYato

I actually never see Demon’s Souls get any shit. I just kinda never see it mentioned, like most people kinda forget about it.

Arshiaa001

Fair enough... Still, DS2 is very good.

___courier___

It was my introduction to Souls games, and I really like it. It's clunky, cause it's old, but It's good imo

FinnyOlive

I loved it. Fwiw, Graphically superior to elder ring as well imho

TigerFun8177

Yeah it looks better than Elden Ring, really utilizes the ps5 hardware Not a knock on Elden Ring obviously as it looks amazing for such a big game

nohumanape

Yeah, I loved this game. It's my favorite PS5 exclusive for sure. And an incredible Souls game.

Current_Run9540

Yeah, I totally agree with this take. DeS is a lot of fun and the remake is one of the best looking games on the PS5. Builds are fun and pretty quick and easy to get up and running. Absolutely one of my favorite quick games to run through along with DS3.

Professional-Rip1006

It was my first souls game and my favorite still up to date.

wicker771

Love how short it is

ProfessorChocMilk

It really is so underrated. In some ways I like it more than Dark Souls 1

jforrest1980

My favorite. I always say you play Dark Souls for the bosses, and Demons Souls for the level design and atmosphere. If you prefer level design and atmosphere over large bosses, then Demons Souls is the best game. Also, Maiden in Black is the best Maiden in all of Souls.

Tastymond

It is one of the best, great remake that doesn't totally over shadow the OG which is good. Souls games are too different now, most newer players don't see what makes games like Demon's Souls good because it isn't a boss roll simulator.

MalamarMaster

I agree mostly, I feel the only problem is the lack of any actually difficult bosses and basically no final boss.

KingGhidorah76

I consider Old King Allant the final boss, and True King Allant to be a Moon Presence/Elden Beast post-final boss to send off the game. It's better that way as Old King Allant is basically a showcase of how powerful your build is and how good your skills are as he's one of the only bosses with an actual moveset.

Bigmatu

I would have dropped DS, if bosses were hard. Sometimes you need to run the level almost completely to get to the boss and I don’t have nerves to do that 10 times in a row. Some of the game mechanics are obsolete and you can’t hide it behind graphics.

OmegaPirate_AteMyAss

The swamp run is brutal

Slowmexicano

Playing it now. Obviously first play through is always the longest but game doesn’t feel short. After my second play through I could beat bloodborne in 2.5 hours and many have it ranked the best fromsoft game.

dadmda

The main issue with the remake is that the new art style differs from FS’ and it is in my opinion inferior (much prettier though, but that’s to be expected)

hozemane

I had bought Demon's Souls and then Elden ring came out. I forced myself to beat it prior to starting Elden ring 😆

The_Salty_Spitoon

It’s the worst. Along with DS2.

ollimann

i recently played it as well and it left me completely unfazed. i understand why people would say it's the worst. it set the groundwork but it is too simple and easy by todays soulslike standards. it's great to get into the genre but after playing ds3 and elden ring i just expect more. what i appreciate is that they tried some things with the bosses. most of them seem unique. compare that to ds2 for example where every boss feels the same

Kiafa

Felt like gushing with an info dump but quickly realized id get too invested.

[deleted]

Demons Souls birthed the whole soulslike genre, the people who try to compare it to other souls games just don’t understand that Demons Souls was the template that every soulslike came from

Carcharis

Since when was the remake underrated? Lol

Historical_Treacle_1

It's second to worst because the games are all so good, even dark souls 2 is good despite being the worst

Former_Hat_6890

I beat it on the ps3 back in like 2014 and I beat it last month on ps5. I love the atmosphere of that game , especially in that one tower with the jail cells. Going from the ps3 version to the remake was awesome to see , idk why people hate on it. I was actually surprised that some people hated the remake, the og was never really hated on.

Eswin17

Atmosphere and graphics are great. But it's still clunky and a bit unbalanced. There are reasons some of the mechanics are one and done.

Sleepless_sire

It's great! The best version is the og ps3 of course with the Miyazaki director's touch.

memelord91190

I thought it was pretty good, I liked it more than ds2 but I didn’t think it was as strong as the rest of the series. Runbacks were CANCER but the bosses were pretty easy

TheSleepiestBoy

While Boletaria is hands down my favorite fromsoftware world to play in, the bosses sucks apart from like 3 of them, the mechanics are so clunky that they're beyond obnoxious at times, the healing items suck, the lack of shortcuts and walkbacks through some areas and to some bosses are terrible, the upgrading is by far the worst in the series and while I like that it's short that also means if you wanna do a specific build you probably won't have it ready untill mid game and then the adventure is already over. I still love the game, I love all souls games but Demons Souls is too outdated its the worst in my opinion but still at its lowest a 7/10 game. Demons Souls is fallout 3 where as Dark Souls is New Vegas. (I don't much care for fallout 3)

PPMaster21

Underrated for a reason, the run backs are cancer

Horrible_Troll

Obligatory git gud

PPMaster21

Finished sekiro lmao, there is a line between hard and bullshit

b0gard

To this day I don’t know how I finished sekiro. But that game is top3 in souls games

KingGhidorah76

Because the bosses are piss easy and shouldn't take more than a couple tries.
