in pueblo, it's called the [passkey special](https://www.fox21news.com/features/fox21-news-we-are-pueblo/passing-the-key-from-generation-to-generation-in-pueblo/).
Except Passkey doesn’t use green chiles in their sandwiches. Which is strange because Passkey is a traditional Pueblo thing, so I would have thought it uses green chile….Maybe it’s in the sausage, but not a visible ingredient?….
i thought the chile was mixed into the sausage, but i could be wrong. i'm gluten free so i've never even been to passkey. an ex used to rave about the place and he said there were chiles in the sausage, so i went on a hunt for the sausage. it seems the farms all have their own version, but musso's is what i like best. i make a sandwich similar to how the passkey has been described to me, and recently found some really good buns from trader joe's. maybe i should start my own gluten-free passkey restaurant, lol.
It’s a super popular sandwich in Pueblo. I enjoy passkeys and the ones in the county. But seriously, pass key does not put green chiles in the sandwich, although the sausage is spicy so they might put it in the patty? Pass key provides banana peppers or similar on the side, but I’ve never seen the sandwiches with green chile visible in it…..
The version I know from church bazaars is just called an Italian sausage sandwich, and had Italian sausage, marinara, strips of green chile, and cheese all served on a bin.
Not for fish fry?? But honestly, I've yet to find one in the metro.. I need to figure out what church does the fish fry Fridays during that religious eat-fish period
pueblo sausage grinder. passkey is the most famous, but there are about 30 restaurants in pueblo that serve them? you can get a slopper with italian sausage too in quite a few restaurants. pueblo has the best food :-) .
I believe there was some controversy years ago for sandwich like this, marinara instead of chili, being referred to as a "WOP Burger" on a Colorado restaurant's menu.
Italian sausage sandwich with green chile. They don't have a cute name. There used to be a few places around Denver that sold them year round, but now I can only find them at Catholic Church bazaars like Holy Family or St. Cat's.

Well I'm gonna start making this, and I'm gonna call it a Denver Church Sammy
The best ones are at the Mt. Carmel bazaar
Wow I need to find this puppy. Sounds delicious.
Called grinders in Pueblo ◡̈
Yep
I've always found it weird that grinders are so popular in Pueblo but basically not existent in Denver.
Sloppers too!

The first reason I've ever seen to go to Church. Oh Hallelujah it sounds tasty
Vinny and Marie's is amazing. We will go out of our way to find their food truck occasionally

Very similar to “Italian sausage burgers”
Go to tailgate sandwich, throw an egg on it
They have something similar at Mickey's Top Sirloin
One of my favorites. I first got one at Dinos in Lakewood (RIP) and it was called the sausage deluxe
not exactly the same but Vinnola's Italian Market in Wheat Ridge does a sausage patty sandwich with provolone and peppers that is delish

Sounds kinda like the spicy devil canolis at Lechugas
Kinda but the roast the sausage patties pretty good so they have a char on them too. But yes, similar
Sounds awesome! Probably be good to sub chilies for giardinara as well.
