The Bills have won the AFC East 4 years in a row with several playoff wins and a franchise QB...and you're jumping ship? You wouldn't have lasted a day during the Patricia or Millen era

chipper124

“But the AFC is hard!!! So obviously I’m changing teams”

More-read-than-eddit

You could also just not be a dick to this guy looking for community

FuriouSherman

They can't beat Kansas City and they refuse to make the moves necessary to do so. That's why. Detroit got rid of Patricia and went with a new approach in order to win; Buffalo doesn't do that, so I left them behind.

Potatoman811

Dawg we moved on from Patricia cause he never won more than 5 games in a season….

Smorgas_of_borg

And it took damn near 3 years to do it even though from the beginning, the warning signs and red flags were everywhere. Smell test-wise, Patricia looked worse at 6-11 than Campbell looked at 3-13-1. When Patricia was coaching, our guys looked tired, slow, and couldn't tackle worth a damn. With Campbell, they weren't winning games but they were fucking trying HARD. It was just a shit roster and things were pretty much turned around midway through season 2. Patricia inherited a middling 9-7 roster that could sneak into the wildcard half the time. He proceeded to alienate all the veterans and turn the roster into shit.

Potatoman811

How is winning ur division 4 years in a row failing

FuriouSherman

They got beaten in the playoffs by Kansas City three of those four times.

Potatoman811

And 20 other teams didn’t even make the playoffs each of those 4 years….

FuriouSherman

At least they didn't get their fanbase's hopes up only to crush them.

Potatoman811

At least y’all had hope?

FuriouSherman

I'd rather have no hope than be let down.

Potatoman811

So what ur just gonna root for whoever the best team is? Why not be a cheifs fan then?

FuriouSherman

Because they're not geographically close to me. Both Buffalo and Detroit are the same distance from where I'm from, so they're technically both my home team. I simply chose to move from one to the other.

FuriouSherman

Exactly. They failed, so the team went with a different approach. Buffalo fails, but they don't try anything different.

whyisthewherehow

You seem more suited to be a Chiefs/Dodgers/Celtics/Georgia fan. The updated version of the Patriots/Yankees/Lakers/Bama fan

maxefontes2

lol, I’m from Boston and you’re spot on about the Celtics. So many people talking about during the coach, breaking up the roster… after making it to the finals and then conference finals the last two seasons. People ranting about how they’ll never win anything because they dropped a single game to Miami in the first round. Same people saying “classic Patriots” after not winning the Super Bowl for two consecutive seasons during the Brady run.

sweet_feet90

We don’t want ya

Drink_Salt

Worthy has the same chance to be tyreek hill as Coleman does 😂 They traded down and got the WR they wanted. Same as lions trading down (giving up Bijan) to get Gibbs + extra pieces.

FuriouSherman

The Draft isn't just about getting the pieces you need, but also denying your enemies the pieces they need. Worthy ran the fastest 40 yard dash in Combine history, and Tyreek's greatest asset has always been his speed. Add on the fact that Kansas City's one weakness last year was a lack of quality wideouts and it's clear that the Bills are directly responsible for Kansas City's impending threepeat. Coleman won't be nearly enough for Buffalo to beat them.

Medievil_Walrus

I don’t see it. Tyreke played RB primarily in college and is either hiding hams in his pants or is THICK AS FUCK in the lower body. I don’t see the same player at all on film beyond a fast 40 time. Bills got the player they wanted, if they passed on worthy the chiefs may have just traded with another team to get their guy. Seems to me with the double trade down that the Bills also got their guy. That’s the fun part of the draft, you get to wait to a few years (or just half a season in our case last year) and see who was correct. I’m not saying Worthy is a bad player, but the bills clearly didn’t want him that bad or else they wouldn’t have done the trade. I hear every year that teams have about 15 first round grades and that each teams board is way different. It’s clear the bills didn’t have a high grade on Worthy, we’ll see who was correct.

DarnedCarrot35

Your GM/coach probably see Worthy as a bust and actually *want* him to go to KC

FuriouSherman

Which is why they fail. Even if he didn't pan out, at least Buffalo would've deprived their archenemy of the next Tyreek Hill.

Rulligan

So in your world you want the Bills to take a player they didn't have at the top of their board because another team might? You do know that most teams don't tell others who they are going to pick until the trade is done right? And if you did draft him, you'd let Kansas City draft a player that your team thought was better anyway.

ExAthlete69

You sound like all my friends who jumped off the lions bandwagon 5 years ago and are now jumping back on.

Rx_Boner

“Jumping ship is the smart choice” 😂

CluelessFlunky

Just make lions your second team. That what I did for the ravens/bills during the matty p years.

picklebooby

Yeah we don’t want band wagoners here

IcySwordfish438

It literally wouldn't have any impact on your fandom. After being the laughing stock for years and years, it's nice to have random fans wanting to join in on the fun.

underwater_jogger

That's only if they are eagles, cowboys, packers, bears, Vikings, Giants, or Patriot fans.

More-read-than-eddit

Fuck you i do.  This is what good teams all have.

I sustain on a healthy diet of FTP all day everyday

Confident_Ad_8745

Eleven FTP, Lunch FTP, Afternoon FTP, Dinner FTP? Supper FTP?

HimJarbaugh4

You may not want to mention that you're a new fan / convert to other Lions fans. There is a certain pride in having been through the hard times and still buying tickets, watching every game.

Rx_Boner

That may be a problem for some, and truly the recent highs feel so much better because of the lows, but ultimately I think the issue is that this person is a hardcore bandwagon / plastic.  I mean… the Bills have been pretty successful recently and this dude is saying “SB or bust”.  “Jumping ship is the smart choice”. That’s fucking crazy lol  The only reason he isn’t posting this on the Chiefs sub is because he thinks going to the actual SB winner is bandwagoning and if he joins the Lions hype train he can say he supported before they ever won a SB.  All that being said, definitely could’ve just followed along and gleaned the information he wants from other posts and comments this offseason and thru next season to feel a part of the community. Making the post is tad odd, for me.   /rant

FuriouSherman

> ultimately I think the issue is that this person is a hardcore bandwagon / plastic. Nope. I'm a lifelong Leafs, Blue Jays, and Raptors fan. I'm only choosy about my NFL teams because there's no Canadian one to support. > I mean… the Bills have been pretty successful recently and this dude is saying “SB or bust”. The Bills are good, but not good enough, and their management refuse to make the moves needed to push them over the hump. Detroit doesn't have that problem. > The only reason he isn’t posting this on the Chiefs sub is because he thinks going to the actual SB winner is bandwagoning and if he joins the Lions hype train he can say he supported before they ever won a SB. No. As I said initially, Detroit is the same geographical distance from me as Buffalo. It's much closer to me than Kansas City, on top of the fact that I'm also not a Taylor Swift fan.

Rx_Boner

Ay, I did gloss over the equidistant part so for that I apologize. It does make it better.  Still though, the Bills have been good so it’s strange to feel like you need to move away from a team with a young QB that could win an MVP in the coming years if you’re already rooting for / following them.  I don’t believe you need to “earn” your fandom or anything like that, but it’s still odd to jump to a new team. What if the Lions never make it back to the NFCCG with this group? Nevertheless, my first comment came off pretty ornery, sorry about that. FWIW, I’m hoping the Leafs demolish the Bruins on Saturday - fuck Boston.

msto3

Idk there's no shame in admitting you're a bandwagoner. Only shitheads act like they've been fans forever. I grew up here and never cared for the Lions until 2011 when I was in high school. But, I've never wavered since

Ign0ramusaurus

Yeah, don't bail on us when times get tough. Ain't no fair weather Lions fans.

Rulligan

Ironic considering they are abandoning their team that routinely makes deep playoff runs.

FuriouSherman

Deep playoff runs would mean beating Kansas City in the second round. Buffalo can't do that.

Rulligan

Choom, it took us 30 years to have a home playoff game and 32 to win our second playoff game in the Super Bowl era. You're giving up when your team is actually good to join a bandwagon. You do you but your teams "struggles" are most teams wet dreams at this point.

FuriouSherman

The Bills have hit a wall and have opted to try to get through it by acting out Einstein's definition of insanity. Detroit has no such problem.

spartyftw

Stop defending yourself. Just admit that you have no concept of what this team has gone through since the late 50s. What are you going to do when the Lions hit a slump?

SkepticalVir

You are low IQ

Fartholomew_Buttons

Lake Eerie bros are always welcome

TheVoicesinurhed

This guys team is making the playoffs routinely and wants to quit them. wtf is this world coming to.

FuriouSherman

Teams that make the playoffs but still have no chance of winning are a special level of Hell for their fans. Detroit at least stands a chance of making the Super Bowl.

TheVoicesinurhed

If this isn’t the definition of bandwagon fanning, I don’t know what is. Welcome, I guess.

Unique_Enthusiasm_57

I don't see the point in being a gatekeeping weirdo about being a Lions fan. It's not your fault the team was bad. Welcome. FTP.

IcySwordfish438

I don't understand this mindset either. You can still take pride you were a fan during the bad times while enjoying others vibing with us now. It doesn't impact how much you like the team nor the enjoyment the team brings you. It makes no sense besides people trying to act elite, which is not what Detroit stands for at all. If you want to be a lions fan, you already are one.

BTD83

The bill aren’t a bad team though?

SagaFraga

We’re basically you but in the NFC

Jakethered_game

I welcome you to your new NFC team. A good rule to follow is never celebrated a win until about 5 minutes after the final whistle, we've been fucked one too many times.

rickywinterborne

Wrong fan base if you're not a ride or die. Lions fans have never tasted a super bowl appearance, let alone 4 in a row.

OneMasterpiece9119

Your bailing out of a playoff team Man up and root for your team Don’t jump to us now

More-read-than-eddit

Wrong.

russvanderhoof

Welcome friend. FTP

Confident_Ad_8745

FTP

msto3

Any Lake Erie Bro is welcome with open arms! Just read up on the history of the team and watch any retrospectives you can to truly understand the pain we've felt and also why this era is so refreshing and exciting. It also goes without saying, but FTP now and FTP forever. Never stop FTPing. Great other subs are r/NFCNorthMemeWar and r/LakeErieBros

FuriouSherman

Question: What does "FTP" mean?

BTD83

![gif](giphy|7OW9uiyfeTRxdSOBYN|downsized)

msto3

Fuck the Packers In your case, maybe you guys had Fuck the Patriots or something similar

FuriouSherman

Oh we did. We also had Fuck the Dolphins and Fuck the Jets.

msto3

We got Fuck the Vikings and Fuck the Bears but there's a very deep and boiling hatred for the Cheese Team

Unique_Enthusiasm_57

Fix the Pumpkins. (Fuck the Packers)

Can-you-smell-it

As a generational Lion's fan I say welcome. It makes me feel proud to see people embrace the Lions by choice and not by birth. It's amazing to see this quantum shift in our popularity and I love it.

ForkFace69

I *ahem* am glad to have you aboard and I hope you find that other Lions fans are the friendliest, most welcoming and respectful fans in the league.

bonko79

1. Dont tell Detroit'rs about your football hardships 2. Dan Campbell is now your football dad and you must follow his lifelessons 3. And probably the most important...FTP

ILkeSportzNIDCWhKnws

Our first true band wagon fan. Nice.

purple_cape

Welcome! Don’t listen to these clowns. If you’re truly looking to be a Lions fan we will welcome you with open arms. We need all the fans we fan get Let me know if you have any questions

SkepticalVir

lol we’ve been shit for years. Take your ass somewhere else.

Otherwise-Mango2732

Yeah, it's funny. All the reasons he ditched the bills we've dealt with in Detroit. Good chance he's gone again

blind2141

Lions fans don’t jump ship to a new team when things get tough

Late-to-the-Dance

Gridiron Heroes

talltime

Younger me thought Gridiron Heroes was a bit corny, until I went to the Bills game at Ford field and was subjected to their *fucking awful* Shout song. Forward Down the Field all day

snowign

Welcome, Jumping from one team to another is a difficult thing to do. Add to that, you're switching to a team with an awfully painful history. You gotta know going in. The older fans here stuck it out through some painful stuff. And you're gonna be judged. Don't let it bother you too much. You're a rookie. The hazing is normal. Obligatory Game of Thrones reference incoming* "Oh! You want to be a Lions fan? Sweet summer child. You don't know what cold is." Cheers!

Whiskey_Vinyl

You should also know: The blue ski masks were lame. You need to chant “Jared Goff” at any gathering over 15 people Taylor Decker reported Corey Schlesinger and Jason Hanson are regarded as GOATS

jlwrd

Main thing to know is we have all suffered for decades and stayed loyal so you, the definition of a bandwagon fan, are very annoying to us. But we aren't petty enough to keep anyone from rooting for the lions. But I would definitely not come in here asking how to be a true fan bc you are not a true lions fan. You are not going to just be handed all the knowledge about the lions just like that. Do your own research if and go back through years of reddit posts if you want to learn more about the lions. You can jump on the bandwagon. Just be aware that's what you are. Welcome and ftp

Nick_of-time

"I statered following the Bills years ago when they were getting good but now they aren't doing what I want so I need a new team to bandwagon until they make me upset."

ChasPM

I might be silly and I don’t remember it very well, but the Bills being good makes me think of them losing in the Super Bowl four years in a row.

notevencharles

This is lame as fuck

TURRRDS

Oh great. A bandwagon fan that will be gone as soon as times get tough. Kick rocks bro

x1echo

You shouldn’t drop your primary fandom because your team hasn’t been doing as well as you want them to in the playoffs. Especially when you’re looking to jump ship to a team that was mired by incompetence for 60 years, this success the Lions have right now could very well prove to be fleeting in the long run and lead you right back to where you are now. If I were you, I’d adopt the Lions as a #2 team, but you shouldn’t drop your primary fandom for such fickle reasons. If the Bills folded operations or moved, I’d get it. If they had awful ownership on par with Dan Snyder, I’d get it. But you can have things so much worse than 4 consecutive division titles and falling short to the NFL’s newest dynasty.

splatterkingnqueen

I don’t want to say no new fans, but you can’t jump ship on your old team and come her because we’re “better”. If those are your reasonings for jumping ship, you would’ve never been a fan of the lions before 2022.

AVKAudio

This is honestly so fucking pathetic

Potatoman811

If you can’t stick out incompetent coaches and gms, you don’t deserve to be a lions fan. Until recently, we have been dealing with that our entire lives.

froandfear

Fuck outta here

ham_wallet998

Bandwagon is full bro

Medievil_Walrus

My brother in law is a bills fan and I went to a few games at Highmark, the tailgating is hilarious and amazing. Bills are now my second team. I don’t see any reason you can’t have an AFC team and an NFC team. Or a primary and secondary team. I don’t understand the band wagon attitude for a geographically close superbowl favorite, the difficulty of the climb to get there and the obstacles along the way make winning that much sweeter when you get there. I really don’t think the Bills management is incompetent, I just think sometimes you need to have the ball bounce your way a time or two and going up against a modern day dynasty isn’t helping things. But I’m not going to tell you who to root for, welcome to the lions… but I’m sure you’ll be able to find an easy reason to jump off when it’s clear we are no longer one of the Super Bowl favorites.

FuriouSherman

> I don’t see any reason you can’t have an AFC team and an NFC team. Or a primary and secondary team. I'm also a Leafs, Blue Jays, and Raptors fan. There's enough pain in my enjoyment of sports as is. > I don’t understand the band wagon attitude for a geographically close superbowl favorite As the baseball song goes, "so let's root, root root for the home team..." > I really don’t think the Bills management is incompetent Trust me: They are. If they weren't, Sean McDermott would've been fired after his 9/11 comments last season and they wouldn't have handed Kansas City the last piece they needed to assure a threepeat in the draft.

Medievil_Walrus

Raps won the championship a few years back, which is more than most fans of major sports in any city can say. If any organization is doomed and pitiful that deserves to lose you as a fan, it’s the maple leafs. What a joke. But if you’ve stayed with the Leafs through all that suffering and embarrassment, I don’t see why you’d ditch Buffalo. Every organization has issues. Did you watch the NFC championship game? There were bad decisions that lead us losing that one too, but no true Lions fan is leaving the fan base as a result of it. Did I agree with decisions William and Matha Ford made previously? Hellll no. There were tons of questionable moves. Did I stop rooting for the lions because they screwed Calvin out of his bonus when he retired early? Hell no. It all comes with the territory, the good and bad. Why don’t you just become a chiefs fan instead if you want a front runner?

FuriouSherman

> Raps won the NBA championship a few years back, which is more than most fans of major sports in any city can say. And now they're dogshit. > But if you’ve stayed with the Leafs through all that suffering and embarrassment, I don’t see why you’d ditch Buffalo. I'm Canadian. I'll stick with the Leafs because they're the geographically closest team to me from my home country, but I'm less choosy with NFL teams because there isn't one based in Canada. > but no true Lions fan is leaving the fan base as a result of it. You ever heard of the logical fallacy known as "No True Scotsman"? > Why don’t you just become a chiefs fan instead if you want a front runner? 1: They're not geographically close to where I live, and as the baseball song goes, "so let's root, root root for the home team..." 2: I don't like Taylor Swift.

Medievil_Walrus

I’ve never heard of no true Scotsman but I love philosophy and am interested to find some time to read in depth about it this, quickly googling and reading one short paragraph doesn’t easily allow me to understand and apply this to what we’re chatting about here. Maybe you’re saying that since what I deem good fans are, lions fans didn’t leave after a few management disagreements and losing seasons doesn’t mean that you can’t leave the bills for consistently having winning seasons and also having some management gaffes? You are your own person, you can do what you want, as I said in earlier comments and of course you’re going to do anyway, but just sharing my perspective, I wouldn’t drop the Bills if I were you.

chipper124

Are you 12? How can you say you’re a fan when you just bounce between winners? What’s stopping you from wanting to be a KC fan?

TortillaTheHun52

Welcome! Ignore the gatekeepers, and welcome to the pride! There's a lot of folks who have been through a lot as Lions fans, and that somewhat describes why they gatekeep. Happy to have you, and I hope you stick with us for the long haul! Edit: I also hope you stick with your team too! I can relate a little, I'm a secondary Browns fan that kinda dropped them after the Watson deal.

chipper124

It’s not gatekeeping he’s just a bandwagon glory hunter. The second we start to regress or need to retool I’m sure you’ll see a post on the Cleveland, Cincy, or Pats sub saying he’s looking to become a fan.

TortillaTheHun52

Lol, the fact we're having a conversation about bandwagon Lions fans is insane to me. Look how far the Lions have come! I know people hate bandwagon fans, but whatever. I don't see the harm in it. Who cares about the reason why someone becomes a fan? As long as they aren't a dick, does it really matter?

DarthMonkey212313

Fuck Dallas and Seattle too

FuriouSherman

What'd the Seahawks do?

DarthMonkey212313

Exist but the recent history - 2023 we loss in OT to them in a game with poor and uneven officiating (shocking I know). 2022 we loss a more fairly officiated shootout 48-45, then in the final week our beating the packers pushed them into the final playoff spot.

beers_beats_bsg

How many times has your favorite NBA team changed in the last 15 years?

FuriouSherman

None. I'm a Raptors fan through and through.

Jumpy-Ad4652

No vacancy

Independent_Lab_9872

The wagon is fully sorry

spartyftw

You do not know and will never know the depths of despair we’ve endured to get to this point. Remember this if you find yourself starting to complain about our team.

MidwesternAppliance

Lions fans have no right to gatekeep wandering fans. Lions fans should know better than anyone what it’s like to want to root for another team What do you need to know? You need to know pain. Lions fans know pain. Detroit by nature is pretty damn loyal so we just endure. We’ve endured a lot but it’s made us resilient. Detroit is a resilient city. What do you need to do ? Just root for the team you . Who gives a shit what people say

ben10toesdown

Why don't you just become a Chiefs fan if winning is the only thing you care about? We are historically a bottom 5 franchise in the 4 major professional sports.

FuriouSherman

Detroit's geographically closer to me. Also, I don't like Taylor Swift.
