This could be one of the most popular failures. I had total of 3 failures since May 2023, 2 of which were of this.

Interesting_Way_4166

Let’s hope so, it should be easy to nail it down. 🤗🤗

One thing I have read about here (but never seen myself) is when the insertion needle does not have the sensor wire contained properly. When applying a new sensor open the cover and look in, make sure the sensor wire is not separate from the insertion needle. I have seen some say they have ben able to reposition the sensor wire before applying it. You will need to replace the sensor. (I would suggest contacting Dexcom for a replacement, although at this point they seem buried in calls due to website issues, you may need to wait a few days). [Bad G7 (wire sticking out) : r/dexcom (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/dexcom/comments/17w4jnj/bad_g7_wire_sticking_out/) has a picture.

This is super interesting, I did look at it beforehand because even though I'm scared of needles I still feel the need to look at it. I didn't see anything sticking out so I don't feel like that was the case for this, but I'm definitely going to be checking every time now. So far, third time's a charm and it made it through the warm-up period m

Goose_o7

An insertion failure can happen even if the insertion needle looks totally normal when you do a visual inspection. No idea why this is happening so much lately but it happened to me about three sensors ago. First time I had one that looked totally normal but failed on warm-up and that was why. Looked exactly like your photo.

AMonitorDarkly

This issue still occurs even with the sensor wire being properly cradled in the needle.

Physical_Pie_2092

Faulty manufacturing. Just had the same thing happen to me. I did the contact form through the app instead of waiting hours on the phone. They typically replace it after 2 days

OliveFrequent3926

I requested a call back, the second sensor had the same problem. Third now has 22 minutes left of warm up 🤞🏼 hope it works. If all goes horribly, I have 4 G6 sensors and a new transmitter left I can fall back on

jamie1073

You can see the sensor wire sticking out of the hole so that is what happened with the one in the picture. The wire did not go into the skin properly on it.

OliveFrequent3926

Yeah, I learned that after I did some research. It was my first one so I didn't know what to expect. But I realized afterwards at the fact that I had no pain was because the wire didn't insert. It was also a bleeder for a good 5 minutes

Goose_o7

Yeah you still get poked by the insertion needle even though it was totally for nothing. 🙁 👎

OliveFrequent3926

I did too, unusually aggressive bleeder despite the fact that when I took it off there was no needle/filament to be seen.

Goose_o7

Classic insertion failure.

TimVa2020

I've only seen this happen to me once, and it was the same exact issue.

Distribution-Radiant

Nothing you could have done. The thread separated from the inserter, which is why you have a wire sticking out. This is by far the most common failure. Report it via [dexcom.custhelp.com](http://dexcom.custhelp.com) and hope they get a new one to you within a week. You'll need the serial # from the box (line 21).

+1 to the web form! It’s quick and simple

Just judging from the wrinkle in the adhesive layer, it appears you didn't apply enough pressure to it when using the applicator. it shouldn't have wrinkles in it. It's possible the sensor needle didn't even go in properly.

OliveFrequent3926

I have it on my stomach so it's hard not to have wrinkles

LostInSpaceSteve

I wear my Dexcom 7 nmy stomach as well. There are no wrinkles if proper pressure is applied. Not to say some won't develop over time but if it's just been inserted there shouldn't be any. You did say it's only been on for 2 minutes.

OliveFrequent3926

I think the reason it was like that is because I lost 30 lb recently and now my stomach fat is extra...squishy? Like it's similar to focaccia sough (I'm sorry for the visual) rather than when it used to be harder fat. So now when I have to press it down all the way to press the button, it stretches the skin and when I take it off, the skin retracts. Legit can push to my fist digit because my fat is so soft rn.

oilman614

Looks like the adhesive didn't adhere correctly and it could of lifted off. See how it's bunched up by the sensor?..not the overpatch but the adhesive that comes with the sensor. Highly recommend shaving the area, even if it's just fine hair, and using SKIN-TAC prep plus getting overpatches from Amazon that cover the sensor

MutedShock8385

Never had it happen to me (yet). I would not wait more that 15 minutes on hold, just use the website, and upload the photo, and they’ll send a new one. You didn’t do anything wrong. I’ve seen plenty of photos just like this.

uid_0

Contact Dexcom and let them know what's going on. They will replace them for you. Also, keep the sensors and the inserters because Dexcom will want them back. They will send you return kits with prepaid shipping labels.

OliveFrequent3926

Waiting on them to give me a call back, thank you for the heads up that I'll have to be active and send stuff back to them. Mildly annoying but if it helps everyone in the long run then I'm down to help

OliveFrequent3926

Additionally update, 5 hours later and no call back ;/

wkramer28451

Always use the online form on the Dexcom site to report sensor failures.

blondie0389

Chat with someone online. That’s what I did the other day and only waited a couple minutes

OliveFrequent3926

I am currently 72 in the queue with a wait time of 42 minutes 😭

Interesting_Way_4166

It’s taking a bit for return call, servers for the US were down for about 48 hours. The time to wait on hold yesterday was up to 580 minutes.

OliveFrequent3926

I asked for a call back around 12:00 noon today and I just got a call back at 10:58 p.m., they were on the phone for 12 seconds before they hung up. Called back and they were closed. I was told it was going to be one minute and then as soon as I said that it was going to be the G7 it all of a sudden went to 388 minutes. I'm so tired of fighting this.

OliveFrequent3926

Second update, been waiting for 42 minutes after being told a 13 min wait. 🫡 I have nothing for another 80 minutes so hopefully they pick up in that time

OliveFrequent3926

Update 3(???) I got a new replacement sensor after 113 minutes on hold BUT they're sending me free overpatches! I know I made a satire post about how they should send us free decorated g7 over patches for every failed sensor but I'll still take basic extra over patches any day

ddbxlady

Happened to me, lucky I got through quickly and they sent a replacement and box to send the broken one back. Hope you are able to get e new one soon!

Temporary_Brain_6516

I’ve only had 1 failure since December.

OperationObvious5119

From the picture, it looks like the sensor wasn’t pushed hard enough against the skin before it was inserted.

OliveFrequent3926

If you check one of the responses to another comment that said the same thing, you can see my explanation for why that is. I lost a lot of weight and my fat is very 'sauishy' compared to how it used to be and it doesn't make it easy to insert

Sweet-Monitor-446

I was told you were not suppose to wear on the stomach seems like that would be a better place but they told me no any reason why

OliveFrequent3926

[dexcom website says abdomen is cool](https://www.dexcom.com/en-ca/faqs/g7/first-time-setup) Where can I insert my Dexcom G7 sensor? Dexcom G7 sensors may be inserted on the back of the upper arm, the abdomen (not indicated for pregnant women), or the upper buttocks (ages 2-6 years old only).

steevilone

Just happened to me today. Grrrrrrr
