Well look at my ass! When Mark said his whole solar system had been installed upside down, I thought that was a poetic way of describing general chaos in his life š Took me a minute to get that he meant the panels still aren't working.
This is probably going to be a very unpopular opinion... but the whole Cincinnati Zoo Harambe incident was entirely that kid's parents fault and I hope the zoo or SOMEONE sued those people... The Cincinnati Zoo is one of the best zoos that I've ever been to and if parents can't watch their kids to keep them from climbing over walls and into an animal exhibit then they shouldn't be allowed to take their kids to the zoo... period. I'll probably end up deleting this to avoid getting a bunch of flak but it feels good to get my opinion out there for a little bit...
When Bob was talking about Ylvis, the guys who made āWhat does the fox sayā and mentioned āStonehengeā I really hope he knows the other songs as well!
Bob, if you read this, they have SO MANY MORE!
I had a time where I listened to these guys constantly!
Other gems from them are:
- *Truckerās hitch*
- *Cabin*
- *I will never be a star*
- *a capella*
Only to note a few of them. Theyāre so fucking funny!
Heyy, so about photo/graphics editing software alternative to Adobe Photoshop from the beginning of the episode, i've been using Affinity products, they offer three - Aff Designer (more vector), Aff Photo (more bitmap), and Aff Publisher (typography and document layout). Affinity operates on a lifetime licence (one-time purchase) and you can get a single product or all three in a "bundle". They ocassionaly offer discounts on their website - incidentally, they have 50% off everything sale going on right now lol
If anyone reading this would prefer a free online "photoshop", I recommend Photopea. Since it's online it's more light-duty and requires internet connection, but it's great for some light photo editing, also can work with Adobe file formats.
Came here to say this if someone else hadn't already. Affinity is the best alternative to Photoshop, and so worth the price for its lifetime license per version, and I've heard they offer a discounted upgrade fee but if you don't they still happily keep updating the older version.
Haven't tried it myself yet, but have a friend who cannot praise the affinity line of programs enough. When I look to getting back into vector art, affinity will be an investment make.
So, I used to work on residential irrigation systems, and after hearing bob explain his sprinkler woes, I can with fair certainty say that the previous owners of his house almost definitely did not winterize that irrigation system and thereās almost definitely going to be harmful debris in that system. I really hope he gets ahold of a reputable company who will know to completely flush out those pvc pipes otherwise heās going to have much worse problems soon lol
Weāre talking small rocks, dirt, mud, probably chunks of the pvc piping itself based on experience. Shit that you very much donāt want flowing through your irrigation system or, god forbid, back into your mainline if the backflow prevention valve is old and faulty.
Yeah I donāt even want him to see it out of āooh look at me!ā But more out of āyou will have super expensive problems soon, please have professionals look at it lol
Definitely second that opinion.
It sounded like Bob was talking about a missing ASSE 1020, which in Ohio must be tested by a certified backflow tester once every 12 months.
Yeah when he was talking about it being metal I was like uh oh. We used to go to countless homes and have to test the inlet, check valve and shutoff on every single one because itās incredibly important that that works correctly when youāve got an irrigation system.
Being from NY, I grew up going to the Bronx Zoo and I always said that was the best zoo ever. Then when my husband and I started dating we visited the Cincinnati Zoo and I said *that* was the best zoo ever. When he got stationed at Coronado in the late 2000s, we went to the San Diego Zoo and I said āok nope, *this* is the best zoo ever.ā Then he got stationed in Norfolk, VAā¦and we went to that zoo and I said āthis is the worst fucking zoo ever.ā
But we live here permanently now and take our kids there regularly becauseā¦.they say itās the best zoo ever.
So, my FIL is from (and still in) Appalachia. He is now in his 70s, but remembers seeing electricity/a light bulb for the first time. His household had a wood burning stove and used kerosene lamps. He says he remembers how it seemed so bright. He and his siblings thought they'd be blinded. It's wild to me for a few reasons, not the least of which how much i take those kinds of 'basic utilities' for grantedĀ
Paused the episode right as Bob and Mark were asking what the alternative for Photoshop could be to come here and utilize my useless graphic designer knowledge in the hopes of helping them and maybe someone here too! :')
Right now, the **most** 1:1 equivalent of a Photoshop-like program is Affinity's **Photo**. The UI is incredibly similar stylistically to Photoshop while the program itself is also pretty decent. It is still under development and the team behind it is constantly accepting user feedback and implementing those changes as they can. Affinity not only has Photo but 2 other programs as well, as of now. **Designer**, an Illustrator equivalent - meaning a vector based drawing program, and **Publisher**, an InDesign equivalent - meaning a layout design software, something that has never really had a direct competitive equivalent before.
One of the reasons designers are still tied into using Adobe products is because of the huge lack of equivalent products that can do the same things. It's like Bob said, it's impossible to find equivalent programs for things like Photoshop and Lightroom because Adobe has had this death grip hold on the industry. It sucks, because as a designer there was nothing that quite functioned like InDesign which is an industry standard. When I heard of Affinity, I gave Publisher a try because I too have been looking into equivalent programs, but I couldn't find anything quite like what I wanted. The closest I have gotten to what I'm looking for is Affinity's Publisher. In the same vein, my sister who is an artist, needed a Photoshop equivalent for drawing and once she tried Photo she said pretty much what I said as well, that there are features missing and small things we miss. But if the choice comes down to paying Adobe a ridiculous amount every month and getting roped into cancellation fees just to have comfortable, known software OR losing a few small features, that for the time being we can find workarounds for- I think it's pretty clear which option is the better.
I definitely feel what's missing from the Affinity products thus far. It's obviously hard to make the jump from a known software to something new- I gave all three a try and there is obviously stuff that is missing that will cause pain points. But its an alternative and its a great alternative. It's not perfect, yet, but it is leagues above the shitty business practices of Adobe that I'm frankly sick of.
And if all of that hasn't convinced you to give it a try yet then I have one final point: it is a **ONE TIME PURCHASE**. And furthermore, their entire suite (Photo, Designer, Publisher) for their universal licence are on sale right now and have been on sale for the last few months.
**TLDR:** Affinity is a great new alternative solution to working with Adobe and I really recommend everyone giving them a try if you're looking for an alternative to Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign!
(I hope this was informative and made sense! :') I don't use Reddit often and have never posted before but this felt like one of those times I actually had some knowledge that could help people out! :D Thank you if you read all of this lol :') Hope you're having a great day!)
A 48 panel system routed directly into 3 ports in the garage? That sounds to me like the previous home owners could have been growing some special herbs in the garage.
What did Mark say his fan was doing at the beginning of the episode? I canāt tell if he said his fan was āflakkingā or āclacking,ā because the thing where a sound is just random noise until someone tells you itās distorted words and you canāt hear it as anything else is happening.
Was it just me, or was anyone else hoping for Mark to bring up Youtube Rewind 2018 for his yt/internet worst of times moments? I did appreciate the more serious discussion for that section, but a part of me was hoping for a reference just for the memes. š After all, I definitely think the most disliked video of all time could count for 'the worst of times'. š
am i the only one who hoped Mark would've talked about how restricted the monetization of youtube got after momo and other things traumatized kids? i've always been mad about that because there is LITERALLY an app called "Youtube Kids". so why restrict creators on the regular app for kids when there's already an app for kids?? it just made everything so much more complicated for creators and viewers alike.
Important for Mark: Do NOT use a powerwasher on your solar panels! The water pressure can/will damage the rubber sealing on the rim. Then water can get between the panel sheets and not only cause shortages, but also in the next winter the water between the sheets freezes and expands, which will damage the panels even further.
Hosing them down gently is enough. Even if you don't clean them, the energy losses i think are 2-4% max. (As long as there aren't any big shadows from i.e. moss) No need to risk damaged panels :) have a good one and thank you for your content and timeš±
I just have to point out how it's a crying shame that Mark failed to mention that the fact that the first person to pass the finish line in the 1904 olympic marathon had in fact driven a car for a large portion of the race; the person who was actually awarded first was doped with rat poison, brandy, and egg white; and that fourth place was a mailman who stole two peaches, got food poisoning from rotten apples, and took a nap *during the race*.
So like... Am I the only one who was waiting for ANYONE to bring up the freaky glitch on Mark's end while talking about the solar panels?? Lol

Hearing Bob talk about how he gets told he looks like a lot of other people is pretty ironic for me because I get told all the time that I look just like him. It doesn't bother me in the slightest though because Bob is a great guy and I'm honored to look somewhat like the almighty muyskerm.
I sometimes have to use the Affinity suite at my job, and Affinity Photo feels really close to the times I've used Photoshop. The issue I have is that my company bought Dell crapboxes for our computers and they really struggle whenever you try to do anything that involves rotating the image, like cropping.
For photoshop variants, I use Krita. I heard it looks very similar to photoshop, some even say it's a rip off. I use it for drawing tho, so I don't know if it has the same functionality of a photoshop in... photoshop-ishness. But it's free-
To anyone looking for a bunch of adobe alternatives - Affinity has a bunch of alternatives and is a one time payment! Also always has good sales as well
Happy to give the community a heads up when a sale comes along - I always get it as an email
In my opinion, this was one of the better small talk to topic ratios weāve seen in an episode lately; I personally like the episode being somewhere around 30-40% small-talk, and the rest being the topic - I believe it was exactly around that this time around.
Ah! Opinions! Everyone has their preference, it's pretty interesting to hear. I personally don't like when they small talk so much. It's interesting, I don't dislike it, but I find the actual episodes way funnier, and I watch for funny, not interesting.
My preferred length of smalltalk is probably like... 10 minutes maybe. 15 might be pushing it already.
I've installed solar panels a fair few times through my job as an electrician, and I struggle to understand what they were doing when they installed Mark's system, apart from some hardcore drugs, of course
Every episode is further proof that Wade was always right about bias against him and needing to whine to get any points at all.Ā
Subreddit!!! Get your heads out of your asses and defend him!!!
What subreddit are you on this one can't stop defending him and what bias are you talking about mark has lost more episodes to wade since the season has begun.
Why does people indignancy at someone's negligence and irresponsibility causing an innocent animal death make you so mad? Yes he was just a gorilla, but the circumstances surrounding his death were tragic and preventable, and show some real problems in our society. He also became a meme, and that's what the episode was about so I don't see why throw a hissyfit.
Also you know... you don't need to come tell people that you didn't watch the episode, are you trying to convince other people that they shouldn't care about it because you don't or what?
Well look at my ass! When Mark said his whole solar system had been installed upside down, I thought that was a poetic way of describing general chaos in his life š Took me a minute to get that he meant the panels still aren't working.
Yea I was like āthatās an overdramatic way of saying your lifeās a mess but ok Mark,ā and then I realized LOL

*puts the episode on for background while I make breakfast* Bob: I did not brush my hair I hope no one watches the video today. Me: *attention snapped to the TV* Great episode as always boys! šš»šā¤ļøš©·
Imo, there was a huge miss of opportunity for the worst of times for zoos: human zoos.
Same, I heard the topic and thought āman thisāll be a steal for worst of timesā
God, I know, right? Just tbf, not everyone thinks of human zoos when someone mentions a zoo, so Wade probably didn't think of it during the episode.

I'm still sad we didn't get a deck building episode while Mark was in Cincinnati
The poor man needs a long overdue break

My dad is a sprinkler fitter and he says Bob is missing an overflow preventer. Apparently it is often stolen and sold for high value brass scrap.
Am I mathing bad? I could've swore Bob counted more things for wade than he did for mark.
Bob did say he had a lot more words for Wade, but they all didn't have their own points.
If only he had literally explained it during the episode like 5 seconds later. lol.
I counted 14 things for wade but I also only counted 13 for mark which still doesn't make sense unless he randomly gave a 2 pointer to mark

Mark just use photopea, it's photoshop but on your browser. I used to use gimp a lot but photopea really surprised me with its features
mark, have you tried Affinity Photo?
A good alternative to Adobe is Corel Graphics Suite. Itās what my graphic job uses. There are some nice features that Adobe lacks.
