I would consult with a veterinary behaviorist to help work on it. They can help work on certain behaviors with you, it sounds like professional help is needed. Maybe also just schedule an appointment with your normal vet too to see if any medication is needed to help manage the anxiety a bit better. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Wishing you luck!

We have seen her vet and they told us to give her acid reducers for the puking but that’s about it. Are anti anxiety meds for dogs a thing?

rangerdanger_9

Yes it is! I know many dogs who are on prescription anxiety medication to help them out. Maybe talk to your vet about how severe her anxiety is, and see if there can either refer you to a veterinary behavioralist or see if she’s a candidate for anxiety medication? My rescue dog is anxious at the vet clinic so she has a trazodone prescription to help reduce her anxiety- which is actually quite common!

AlluringAllura

I will bring that up to her vet

Agitated_Cellist_173

Have you tried desensitizing her to things like opening the door and ringing the bell?

AlluringAllura

What would that look like? Just spending a day opening and closing the door?

Agitated_Cellist_173

Something that worked for me was going outside the door waiting and repeating a few times and when she doesn’t bark give her a treat. I’ve also simply left the door open and kept her in a sit position while people walked by outside (I live in an apartment so may not work in a house). Also with ringing the doorbell same concept. Just make it more of a usual thing and add a positive connotation with it, since she might be associating both of those things with you leaving or with someone coming into her space.
