Well, whoever they hired for roadworks traffic control fucked up.

DrinkLikeADragon

If I heard correctly they're already overdue on finishing them

SoMuchF0rSubtlety

Construction is going round and round in circles.

Bombearo

Oh so that's why they're working on/near a roundabout!

Lewis19962010

They were only there to fix a pothole and installed a roundabout in error

neilmack_the

IF there's a split up ahead on your side of the cones, the left lane is relevant to you seeing as the sign is to your left and you're on that side of the cones. So straight on is the first of two lanes at the split.

Silent_Rhombus

That’s a shit show. I would probably use the left lane because it’s what you would do for straight on if there were no other instructions, and these instructions basically add up to zero. But obviously you need to be very aware of people in the right lane and ready to evade.

MuayJudo

Based on those signs, I'd ay either lane, depending on which lane you're currently in.

kristopoop

The arrows don’t look thick enough.. thought road signs had to meet certain standards?

tomoldbury

These signs are definitely illegal.

Random_Brit_

Maybe someone trained/skilled in law can better answer... But my crude understanding is that if signs did not fully comply with TSRGD, then by definition they could not be considered as legal road signs. Until one guy seriously took the mickey (The Parking Adjudicator and Sunderland City Council on the application of Herron [2010]), then the concept of "Substantial Compliance" became a precedent for these kind of cases where a defective sign is still considered legal if the intent is still obviously understood by anyone who would have understood a fully compliant sign.

bork_13

Is it two lanes straight over after the roundabout?

DrinkLikeADragon

It will be eventually but right now they have roadworks that narrow the road both just as you get on the roundabout and just as you leave it

bork_13

Narrowed to one lane or still two? If there’s space for two cars straight over then it doesn’t really matter which sign you follow because no one’s crossing over anyone else

Cotford

Pick one and floor it.

Robestos86

Yes.

Most-Tension-9635

There's only one lane so that

Spinxy88

It's very apparent. The path is actually a lane. If you go with that it all makes sense.

Spinxy88

You might find yourself driving at 90 degrees across the opposite lane of traffic. But, signage. It's your job to follow, not to question.

VoilaLaViola

This seems to be a future 3 entry lanes roundabout, but only lanes #1 and #2 are available now, so you go left and straight from 1st lane and you turn right from the 2nd. I assume the right hand sign is used when the traffic is allowed on the other side of the cones, using entry lanes #2 and #3 and then you go left from lane#2 and straight+right from lane#3.

Not_Sugden

ask the roadworks people. Genuinely.

folkkingdude

Ahhhh an auditor trap

kiiiiidddRoCK

The lane with the divide down the middle

NewPower_Soul

Looks like one lane on approach..

greggery

Who knows, TM contractors have fucked up

TobyChan

Is it a dual lane exit?

AveragelyBrilliant

Well, the sign on the right is after the one on the left so, it’s the valid one. I think I went to school with the person who put those signs out.

darrenturn90

It looks like they’re planning to keep the two lanes separate for now and so if you’re to the right side of the cones you need to go straight over in the right lane. If you’re to the left side (as is OP here) you need to go straight ahead in the left lane, the only time you change lane in the roundabout is if you’re coming off left or right

newdawnfades123

The sign on the inside of the cones is for the construction traffic, no?

Jolly_Jack_

They’re both right. You can approach in either lane.

ajjmcd

Are there actually two lanes, or is presuming to illustrate guidance through ‘temporary measures’ marginally irrelevant?

Jaded_Selection527

A sign on your right hand side does not apply to you

Mattyc8787

Signs on your side of the road are the ones that count, left lane.

Doogleyboogley

You shouldn’t drive then

thefishingdj

Go on then genius, what would you do? Half the cars, including myself, follow the left sign. The other half follow the other sign causing problems every morning.

Doogleyboogley

The half that followed the sign on the closed off road, what if one of them vans with the big yellow arrows pointing down and to the right were parked up in that lane would you post saying…I can’t get to the right of the arrow because that lane is coned off…. ?

Disco-Valliant

Good old British rd highways maintenance. Could fuck up a piss up in a brewery 🤦🤦🤦🤦

Separate-Ad-5255

It’s clear based on the signage at both sides of the road that someone has messed up, the signs indeed contradict themselves. That being said, I would personally apply every day driving experience to the equation and go in the left lane by default for straight ahead and left, unless instructed otherwise. As the signage is contradictory this would void the unless instructed otherwise part.

DrinkLikeADragon

Springfields roundabout, ignore the signs cause its a fucking free for all anyways, I drive a truck through here daily and the amount of pricks that cut me off because they take the other lane is stupid

thefishingdj

Shocking isn't it. I can't wait for it to be finished.

SuuperD

Take caution and follow someone

NotHumanButIPlayOne

Following someone is not the best advice. Chances are high that they're as confused as you. Always make your own decisions on the road.

SuuperD

Aye you're right.

Tricky-Falcon1510

Drive in the middle of both lanes then go wherever you want without the risk of another colliding.

TwoToesToni

Well according to that BWM infront of you then you can just use both lanes and drive down the middle

LondonCycling

If it's a roundabout, then when in doubt go with the right lane - that way you can go full way round the roundabout to get the right point for your exit.
