Stacey is definitely one. I liked her from 2006 - 2015ish but I think her character suffered from being around during the 2016 - 2019 period where the writing was really shit. She used to make mistakes when she was younger but she always apologised and had a proper conscience. Nowadays, she’s more like a bootleg version of Bianca than an older version of 2010 Stacey Slater but oh well, she’s still iconic. Liam’s recast genuinely has to be the worst in history 😭 Bad writing, bad acting - just ruined a nice character who got a happy ending offscreen for no real reason. They should’ve just brought back Morgan or something if they desperately wanted that storyline, it might’ve worked better with him since he’d be younger and more naive

IcyJ49

Morgan would have worked better aswell especially considering it was around the time of Aaron’s racism storyline.

She was mostly awful in 2010 and 2015 (Stacey). Those wretched first few months of 2018 did a lot of damage to her, though. But nothing irredeemable.

I just mean her overall character, not even just her actions. Like it was during the 2016 - 2019 period that she kept cheating on Martin (Kush and Max) and the writers decided to make her a mini Pauline Fowler

Purple_ash8

That’s true, but I did think late 2018 (when Ruby returned) re-ignited a better spark in the character that was lacking for much of the two or three years prior. 2018 was far from the best year for EastEnders and I’m as glad as anyone that EastEnders is out of that very low point but notes did improve for certain individual Slaters. Eventually, and sans all the wretched crap with Hayley.

Linda Carter for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the alcoholism storyline and how her family was treated the first time, but the final nail in the coffin was definitely her affair with Max. Mick was clearly having a mental breakdown right in front of her and yet she thought the smartest idea would be to go and have unprotected sex with the local womanizer. Having Linda sleep with Max and then carry his child is one of the worst decisions the writers have ever made because it completely ruined that special thing that Mick and Linda had. The thing that made them different from every other soap couple.

Janine’s latest stint was very damaging for her character in my opinion. Always loved her, but her treatment of Scarlett was really disappointing, especially as she promised to be a good mother to a dying Pat. Yes, she’s made big mistakes in the past, but they were always written so it somewhat made sense. This one to me, did not. Also, Michelle Fowler and Liam Butcher’s recasts were abysmal!

Quiet-Interview3916

Michelle fowler recast was the first that came to mind

> Particularly since she brought Eve to the square, she has just become nothing short of unbearable, Naive, obnoxious, shameless Stacey has been one of my favourite character's for years but the behaviour you're describing has been Stacey's character in a nutshell since she arrived in 2004. I don't think her recent behaviour can be attributed to anyone other than Stacey herself. When she arrived she terrorised Zoe over the Dennis/Sharon situation and even tried to blackmail Sharon and Dennis, was involved in covering up Den's murder by giving Zoe & Sam false alibi's. We've seen her treat Bradley, Ruby, Danielle, Eve, Suki, Kat, Jean, Tanya, Martin, Shabnam, Kush etc. horribly over the years. I adore Stacey but her behaviour isn't new, this is her default setting when things start to look bad for her. Stacey's always been selfish.

Hands down Liam Butcher recast.

ErskineLoyal

James Bye's version of Martin Fowler. I think Martin's played like a gormless arsehole by him.

Ashbuck200

Agreed, Bye's Martin always trying to act the big man but just looks like a tw*t!! Acts like he fears nobody, not even Phil Mitchell😂😂

Purple_ash8

Phil Mitchell’s a balding potato in his 60s who’s re-entering his sympathetic era. What’s to fear?

Ashbuck200

Sympathetic?? Phil has not done sympathetic for a veeeeeeery long time!!! He's literally a knackered, worn out old crock, who still thinks he's better and harder than everyone else!! And still owns the whole square!! Honestly his presence in the show now is just yawning I mean 😴😴
