Try wrapping a rubber band around the lid & using the grippy whatsit on that. & maybe a nut cracker on top of both for extra leverage, if that doesn't work
Usually I use a piece of silicone to open hard and bottles. I got it as an alternative to seran wrap but it works just as well to open things. Another option would be something like this: Otstar Jar Opener Bottle Opener and Can Opener for Weak hands, Seniors with Arthritis and Anyone with Low Strength, Mutil Jar Opener Get Lids Off Easily (Blue and Grey) https://a.co/d/0enuCXfc
My late grandmother's ratcheting (?) jar opener. It's this amazing gripper thing and i flipping love it. Sadly it lives at my mother's place so I make do with a modern jar key or get my husband to open the things it doesn't work on.
Edit: I'm not seeing mention of jar keys anywhere in this thread, oh my god get one in your life!
I like the white and orange grippy tool (maybe called a jar opener?) sold by IKEA. Easy to hang on a drawer or cabinet pull in the kitchen to keep it handy. If the lid is too tiny for that, I break out the big chunky pliers.
Did you get to make muffins? Inquiring minds want to know.
I have an oven mitt with rubber on it, and I use that to help me open things. It doesn't always work.
I did eventually! A combination of rubber bands on the lid, the silicone grippy thing, attempting with the pliers I had, running hot water on the lid, trying to stick a butter knife up the lid and finally threatening the bottle seemed to do the trick! A very quick and easy process 😂 but the muffins were worth it - it's my great grandpa's recipe.
Next time I'll try the rubber oven mitt too! Once I got this bottle open I dumped the rest into a mason jar.
Blueberry! This recipe makes 24 and they freeze perfectly.
INGREDIENTS
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups (16 oz) sour cream
2 cups fresh blueberries
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 400
In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, gradually add sugar.
While beating slowly pour oil; add vanilla.
Combine dry ingredients; add alternately the sour cream to the egg mixture.
Gently fold in blueberries.
Spoon into greased muffin tins. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes.
*If you're making giant muffins like I did yesterday you'll get 21 and need to bake them for 22 minutes.
I keep all the elastic bands that come with my veggies. I wrap them around any jerk lid that won't open and it almost always works. Works on large and small lids too.
Breakdown in tears and when i realize I don’t know what’s happening but i can’t ignore unopened salt as the original source of my tantrum. I eventually found my emotional needs to be greater than my needs for salt so i threw it on the floor of my porch and stomped on it a lot, which was not satisfactory (go figure). The hammer worked. I’m not at all prone to tantrums or spice bottle destruction…but i’d do it again, worth the catharsis
Ducktape? You can make a pulley for the lid I have used it for tins, idk if it would work in this scenario?
Ditto this!
I'll have to try this next time!
I ask the other people in my house to open it for me 😂 vanilla i don’t struggle much with, it’s the lemon juice that gets me every time
Why is lemon juice always so hard to open?! I swear I use my teeth more often than not! (don't try that at home, kids)
The plastic is so hard and the ridges dig into my hand so much it burns
That's my usual go to 😂
Honey jars are the bane of my existence.
Do you have pliers with teeth that could grip the lid and give you some leverage?
Ohhh good idea! Let me try it
Sadly I don't seem to have the right type. I do have a hammer though. That's tempting 😂

I'll have to invest in a nut cracker jic. The elastic + grippy thing was not wanting to work today
If i dont have one of those silicone pads, rubberband s are you friend!
I do have one but it wasn't working today unfortunately
Rubber marigold gloves always prove some amount of help for me
I hadn't thought to try this! Thanks!
I always put elastic bands on lids I cannot open. It creates more friction and makes them easy to open.
[Jar opener](https://a.co/d/ 03CpZzxx) I have one of these. It’s the best!

How have I never heard of this?!?! Absolutely getting one!
I use pliers. A lot.

same problem i have with jars and cola bottles, my hands will turn red and cracked if i try and open it without someone in the house helping me :(
I feel you 😞

What kind of muffins I’ve been looking for new ones to make👀

I use a pair of pliers called "robo grip"
My husband installed this and it’s amazing! https://a.co/d/0gV2lGYr
