Hey there’s a Soulwax remix, I can’t remember the name of it and there’s a ton to sift thru wondering if you can help me.
Basically a DJ talking about going to the club, but he’s not there for the lights or the girls or the alcohol, but for the music.
I know it’s been played a ton and I’ve heard it in multiple sets but I can’t come up with it.
Shiiiit those are the vocals but not the track. Might have been an accapella over a Soulwax track.
I remember it goes into “I got music… I got soul… I got the music…” might have been on a sander kleinenberg set.
Welp I was completely off the mark. What I was thinking of was
[Soul Mekanik - I’ll Call You (Thin Red Man Mix)](https://youtu.be/X1936nkIRFA?si=CEG_znrHuS1FxGk_)
Which was on Nick Warren’s GU 18.
I don’t know, [Marie Davidson’s Work It slaps so much harder than the Soulwax remix.](https://open.spotify.com/track/0eEmzJ8CJPYEgI3uYB3ria?si=jFsBlK2YQjaBRzWvZhV4XA)
Toms Diner by Suzanne Vega is actually a bootleg. The original is Acapella, a German duo remixed it(iirc) as a club track, and the bootleg went so huge the label bought it instead of suing them.
So for me, that's the absolute standout.
Yes! I couldn't recall the artist name and honestly I'm at work and shouldn't be fuckin around on reddit, lol
If you found a copy of the boot pre license, might be a neat little treat to have
Have we not all been in your shoes ❤️😂
I still remember the very first time I heard the track, at a cool cafe in the centre of Copenhagen.
Or maybe it was a remix of What I am by Edie Brickell & the new bohemians ,,,,, lol.
Either way those two tracks are very good examples of crossover hits due to unlikely remixes of left field tracks into early 90s club scene .

# Sarah McLachlan - Fear (Lunasol remix)
off Plastik Compilation 1 from 1995 heh... I'm an ooooold raver.
The original is in the hall of fame of electronic hits for me. I heard the radio edit on pop radio as a teen and it blew my mind. The album was great. I know they’re extremely different but his two next albums are epic for me.
RIP Robert Miles
- Nightcrawlers - Push The Feeling On (The Dub of Doom)
- Jane - It's a Fine Day as covered by Opus III
- New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle (Shep Pettibone Mix)
- The Orb - A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre of the Ultraworld (Orbital Dance Mix)
- Technique - Sun is Shining ("Mash Up" Matt Darey Remix)
Father Ocean - Ben Böhmer Remix.
I generally hate Monolink songs because his voice is just so monotone and depressing, but this version is pretty good.
Great song! I really enjoyed listening to it live during Ben Böhmer tour in Milan.
Also another great remixes by Ben Böhmer are Red Dressed and Callisto.
Energy 52 Cafe Del Mar ([three n one](https://youtu.be/uTA4C5QwZEg?si=xis9WI1-AP-uyVZd)) over the original [Kid Paul](https://youtu.be/xaiXzrnGUyo?si=YCQ7Z8wm1nkWrj7X)
Age of Love [original](https://youtu.be/ZRi8B4Rx3ns?si=b2TOVTeIuntBSNdX) vs Jam and [Spoon Watch Out for Stella](https://youtu.be/I4Et0DJ2L8k?si=TlALvomJF904qc6E) mix
* Lionrock - Packet of Peace (Chemical Brothers Remix)
* Ternion Sound - Dovetail (Kursa Remix)
* Lana Del Ray - Ride (Special Request VIP)
* Renegade Soundwave - Renegade Soundwave (Leftfield remix)
* Drum Club - Sound System (Underworld Mix)
* Nightmares on Wax - Gambia via Gator Beach (Scruff mix)
* 2 Player - Extreme Possibilities (Wagon Christ Mix)
* The entire Space Monkeyz' *Laika Come Home* album as a redub of the Gorillaz debut.
* Primal Scream - Higher than the Sun (any version apart from the original)
* Tori Amos - Professional Widow (Amand's Star Trunk Funk Mix)
Higher Than The Sun only gets better with each additional iteration. It amounts to an Andy Weatherall/Alex Paterson dream blunt rotation on the album itself, and then the other two official mixes just take it into the stratosphere.
Boards of Canada did a remix of a Meat Beat Manifesto track that I love, but it's kind of cheating because I don't really know the original that well, and I'm a big BoC fan.
[Ellie Goulding - Lights (Bassnectar Remix)](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nGlIDlOqurA&pp=ygURQmFzc25lY3RhciBsaWdodHM%3D)
Then, I wouldn't say these are *better* than the original, but I really like the different vibe:
[Deadmau5 - Raise Your Weapon (Madeon Remix)](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YnwfTHpnGLY&pp=ygUcRGVhZG1hdTUgLSBSYWlzZSBZb3VyIFdlYXBvbg%3D%3D)
[Glitch Mob - Seven Nation Army](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-m7e7tCn7Bk&pp=ygUcZ2xpdGNoIG1vYiBzZXZlbiBuYXRpb24gYXJteQ%3D%3D#bottom-sheet)
Outside of electronic music there's a bunch of songs where the cover is better liked than the original (a lot that get brought up ad nauseum), but for my money pretty much every cover Cobain does on the Unplugged album is better than the original. *In particular* [Where Did You Sleep Last Night](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hEMm7gxBYSc&pp=ygUed2hlcmUgZGlkIHlvdSBzbGVlcCBsYXN0IG5pZ2h0) had no business going as hard as it did.
Bis did a great cover of Hurt by New Order on their Factory 2002 ep. Also has a really good electronic version of Love Will Tear Us Apart
https://youtu.be/_2cN6OdZtt8?si=FNHTb1AXB3ede0ad
Airscape took "Kiss (When the sun don't shine)" by the Vengaboys and turned what was otherwise a forgettable song and turned it into a trance anthem.
Jonathan Peters took Jessica Folker's "To Be Able to Love" and completely transformed it into a dance floor monster.
If you like that check out this version of Flower Duet that he'd mix live at Sound Factory
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B6Hfi8uiS4&list=PLZBhACIOJpratQluhadlwsaIB0MuTXzjJ&index=25](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B6Hfi8uiS4&list=PLZBhACIOJpratQluhadlwsaIB0MuTXzjJ&index=25)
Yup heard that one too but was never sure what version he played at SF
I’m checking out the Airscape remix of Kiss. Never heard this one!
John Fleming remix of [Earthbound’s Essence of Life](https://youtu.be/O0Kqs-7A8so?si=XwfK2G4GmP1aEUCK)
The Bob Sinclair remix of “Music Sounds Better With You” by Stardust is better than the original IMO. Not by much because the original is phenomenal, but the addition of the horns and the mellow bass line just make it chef’s kiss for me.
The Age of Love - The Age of Love is barely known for the original, but more often for the Jam & Spoon Watch For Stella Remix, or the very recent Charlotte de Witte & Enrico Sangiuliano Remix.
Energy 52 - Café del Mar is another original that is barely played, but rather the Three 'N One Remix or the Tale Of Us Renaissance Remix.
Mostly in Belgium a classic, but The Magician Remix of Sam Sparro - Happiness. I was surprised how different both tracks are.
Not really a remix, but the main tune of Tiësto - Traffic is a sample from Psykofuk - Psykofuk.
Took a Pill in Ibiza - Mike Posner originally made it with just an acoustic guitar, then the Seeb remix made the song iconic
“Better” is of course subjective since the original is great but soo deeply sad… remix took the edge off a little bit, so it became a song people could listen to more frequently (and blow up on the charts)
I absolutely love the original but when Royksopp played the Eric Sangiuliano remix live as the show closer/encore I lost my shit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsNIlIQf0FY
Depeche Mode had an album track called “New Dress” - it’s a 1980s song about how the media (Rupert Murdoch) would distract the public any time the world events made people unhappy, if things didn’t fit the newspapers’ narrative of a country with low crime now, or if one of his Conservative Party politicians fucked up by reporting on the glitz of the Royal Family. Sex-jibe husband murders wife / gun blast victim fight for life / girl, 13, attacked with knife? Princess Di is wearing a new dress.
The original is morose and a bit of a dirge. [The cover version by Razed In Black is exceptional.](https://youtu.be/n5ObzW4_E1k)
Took a Pill in Ibiza - Seeb Remix was so big that when I show people the original, they don’t even recognize it. Sounds like a random Acoustic YouTube cover by comparison lol.
Some that come to mind:
Sensorama - Aspirin (Global Communication Remix). One of the best ambient pieces ever in my opinion.
Curve - Falling Free (Aphex Twin Remix). Almost an original track, it's so much better and darker than the original.
Luke Vibert - Spiral Staircase (AFX remix). Who knew a remix Aphex Twin made just to troll a remix competition would be so good?
Future Sound of London - Moscow (Remix). Moscow has always been one of my least favorite FSOL tracks but this remix from an Accelerator re-release is an amazing improvement.
Sound Remedy - We Are the Dream (TheFatRat Remix). So much damn nostalgia with this one.
Any remix with the words “SebastiAn Remix” or “Soulwax Remix” are pretty much a guarantee that I’ll love a remix more than the original
Soulwax remixes of Gossip and MGMT are all-timers
Also "MSTRKRFT remix"
Love the Soulwax remix of Le Taxi

Original is pretty good. Soulwax is dirtier which appeals to me more
To each their own, and that is why we have remixes in the first place.
Debatable.
Yes, it is.
Skream edit of La Roux “in for the kill” is way better than the original
For anyone searching, yes, it is the Let's Get Ravey remix
agreed
100% The cookers remix is another, got a bit crazy that one though
Toms Diner by Suzanne Vega is actually a bootleg. The original is Acapella, a German duo remixed it(iirc) as a club track, and the bootleg went so huge the label bought it instead of suing them. So for me, that's the absolute standout.
The original remix is by DNA . Just found a copy in a bargain bin in Copenhagen.
Yes! I couldn't recall the artist name and honestly I'm at work and shouldn't be fuckin around on reddit, lol If you found a copy of the boot pre license, might be a neat little treat to have
Have we not all been in your shoes ❤️😂 I still remember the very first time I heard the track, at a cool cafe in the centre of Copenhagen. Frankie Knuckles mix of "Blind" comes to mind.
Both are 10/10
Man, high on my want list .
Justice's remix of Electric Feel is sooooo good.
My answer as well, no doubt that the original is a classic, but I much prefer the Justice remix.
Wilmot - red snapper mix Alphawave - plastikman acid house remix Edit: had to add the plastikman track.
My 2 favourites are; 1. the Jon Hopkins remix of Last Time, by Moderat; and 2. the Edwin Van Cleef remix of You Can Dance, by Chilly Gonzales.
this Jon Hopkins remix is ridiculous
Seriously deep cut!

Jon Hopkins - Collider (Karenn Remix) Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo - The Bird Clawfinger - Vienna
Everything But The Girl - [Before Today (Chicane Remix)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsHFCk5qn-A) Bush - [Letting the Cables Sleep (Nightmares On Wax Remix)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcmEfTVIsDI)
The original is good but "Rufus del Sol" " On My Knees" Adriatique Remix just takes it to another level.

Aphex Twin’s remix of Box Energy
I'm partial to the [2005 version of Box Energy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO7CBrKAZ1c)
Tinlicker’s remix of Robert Miles - Children is epically good.

Point of note: The "Orbital dance mix" is not an Orbital remix of The Orb.
How about Orbital’s cover of Dr Who especially live?
Meat Beat Manifestos remix of NIN ‘perfect drug’. Drums on it are fierce.
Reflekt - Need to feel loved (Adam K & Soha Remix) Luminary - Amsterdam (Smith & Pledger Remix)
Father Ocean - Ben Böhmer Remix. I generally hate Monolink songs because his voice is just so monotone and depressing, but this version is pretty good.

Need to Feel Loved - Reflekt (Tinlicker remix) The Runner - Foals (RUFUS DU SOL remix) The One - Jorja Smith (High Contrast remix)
Speaking of High Contrast, his remixes of Adele's Hometown Glory and Hello are both excellent
Tainted love. The transition from a northern soul floorburner by Gloria Jones into an electronic universe is simply incredible.

I know people will stone me for that, but the ORAX remix of Personal Jesus is even better than the original.
In no particular order Apashe - Majesty (CloZee Remix) Nero - The Thrill (Porter Robinson Remix) Purge - Never Let This Go (Kumarion Remix)
Airscape took "Kiss (When the sun don't shine)" by the Vengaboys and turned what was otherwise a forgettable song and turned it into a trance anthem. Jonathan Peters took Jessica Folker's "To Be Able to Love" and completely transformed it into a dance floor monster.

Is the Overmono version of I Have a Love (by For Those I Love) too recent?

'Dressed For Space' by TR/ST bangs, but Ari Mason's version is probably better.
Walk this way as was done by Aerosmith and RUN DMC, and Kick Out the Jams as done by Rage Against The Machine
In terms of surpassing the original's popularity, I'd say the Skrillex remix of Benny Bennassi's Cinema is pretty much ubiquitous at this point
Literally every song The Beatles covered.
