The elon haters on here actually throwing shit at real brazilians here for sharing their stories of getting arrested and censored by a dictator LOL

Donshio

That literally didn't happened. Those people are arrested because they tried to seize power by force at the Brazilian elections. By the gods! Learn to do a basic google search, i guess?

Nahesh

Some of the people censored were sitting members of the parliament.. I think you should take your own advice.

Donshio

Like a gringo with less then 100 karma like you knows better then me about my home country

Nahesh

Yes because karma points is a measure of knowledge. All hail the all knowing karma lord from brazil

Donshio

Care to share why do you think you are so knowledgeable in Brazilian laws and news?

superluminary

As I understand it, X is refusing to block accounts related to supporters of the political opponents of a particular Brazilian judge.

GlitteringNight9112

If by "supporters of political opponents" you mean "supporters of coups and dictatorships", yes, those people are being blocked. I wonder why X hasn't done it before

Nahesh

These are sitting members of the parliament. What the hell are you on about?

GlitteringNight9112

Does that make their statements about closing the Supreme Court and such any less criminal?

Nahesh

Holy shit. You think that deserves arrests and censorship? It's sad that people don't realize the dangers of loosing freedoms until its gone.

GlitteringNight9112

It's the principle of tolerating the intolerant If we allow people to talk as they please about closing the Supreme Court, closing the Congress, asking for military intervention and such, it will end up happening. And if it happens, we will all lose far more freedom. Brazil has 2 dictatorships, just last century. You probably are from the USA, so you wouldn't understand how it is to live in a country where so many people are nostalgic about this.

Nahesh

I understand. But you have to see my point that it's better to let everyone have a voice than to centralize power into the hands of a small number of people. Things can go wrong very quickly and it can be almost impossible to turn it around. I'm not from the US which is exactly why I understand these dangers quite well.

pythonga

Your right to have a voice does not negate your right and duty to follow the law, and by consequence be arrested for breaking the law, it is criminal to support coups/dictators here, just like it would be a crime to openly support Hitler or his actions in Germany at 1940 in any decent country with a respect for human life and morals. There's no argument to be made, no discussion to be held. If you openly support something that is morally wrong, and then get punished for it, you are the only one at fault for it. Spreading misinformation, hate discourse or supporting acts against the democracy is wrong, and they deserve to be punished, your opinion does not change the facts, nor does it matter for the law.

DrNick8

Leftists play this stupid, underhanded game with their opponents claiming “everything you value is akin to Hitler” God help you if the right treats you in-kind.

LongLiveEileen

Those guys either openly supported coup the coup attempt during the last election or were part in it though. It's part of an ongoing investigation that's been happening for over a year.

DrNick8

So which banned accounts supported coup attempts? What evidence do you have of that?

Chiponyasu

While you also literally did try to violently overthrow the government and establish a dictator-king that one time, Brazil is a different country than America and has different things happening in it.

LukePCS

Supporters of a coup attempt *

superluminary

Regardless. If you stop people speaking all you do is create conspiracies and polarisation because information consumers very quickly, and logically, come to the conclusion that something is being hidden from them.

LukePCS

When you say "stop people from speaking", you're making it sound broader than it is. The judge's effort is to stop just the ones who are using social media to incite crimes or even commit crimes. He is adapting the law that is already being applied in the real world and other media, like TV, to social media.

superluminary

Well hold up there. We don’t actually know who Alexandre is trying to block yet, or why. Incitement to violence is already bannable on X. This looks like someone speaking out against the elected government.

Dramatic-Tie-1449

The problem is that WE DO KNOW EVERYONE INVOLVED. They we're banned already. But this weekend the right wing extremists orchestrated a campaign involving Elon. That's why we are seeing this shit. But Twitter already banned those accounts. Elon put them back up just to support a government that tried a coup. Everything is super black and white with a pint of grey, but the party who tried the coup really likes conspiracy and lies

Tawoka

X would never block accounts of political opponents. The judge should know that. Well except for the Turkish opposition of course, but that was special. /s

superluminary

The Brazilian accounts likely will be blocked in Brazil also after X has fought the ruling and lost. US companies do still have to obey the laws of the countries they do business in, even though it’s unpalatable.

artweu4re

Yah unpalatable that any country should resist US domination. As though the US is beyond reproach. We had a coup attempt, and are 4ever intervening in (+fucking with) other nations' economies & governments...only when there is a vested interest of course, i.e., keeping the shrimp industry alive, asserting power in a region, resource mining or some other dumb shit.

Biscoito_Gatinho

Not political opponents, but people that were requesting a coup d'état on Twitter

LightVelox

Request a "coup d'état": Questioning Alexandre de Moraes's decision to jail people without trial, with more jail time than literal murderers and rapists, no parole, and giving $100k/hr fines to average people that obviously would never be able to pay that much to force them to "stop whatever they are doing" without having to go to court first. Doesn't matter if "questioning his decisions" is considered "not democratic", people should not go to jail for tweets, people didn't bitch as much when only the rioters were punished

Biscoito_Gatinho

The sentences from January 8th are being handed by the full bench of the Supreme Court and nobody is being jailed by just tweeting.

LightVelox

And who said anything about January 8th? I'm talking about tweets, for example, Monark was fined $4 million and got his assets blocked for one tweet, sure a really dumb tweet, but wtf? In what society a single judge can just decide someone has a 4 million fine on their ass, even the ABA criticized Moraes heavily for that and he has accumulated more than a hundred lawsuits and impeachment requests for cases like that. Cid was jailed for revealing his plea to the public in a tweet, "Oh but it was because..." That's the official justification. During Jan 8 that you mentioned even people that showed their support online were punished, some got the infamous "14 year arrest warrant" that pretty much has become a meme by now, Moraes even jailed an innocent guy, Carlos Frederico Santo, and he himself released him after a few months after noticing he committed a mistake, doesn't change the fact he jailed a guy with no right to defend himself in court.

mambanera69

Brazlian here, let me try to flash some light on the matter. Here we have a say that Brazil in not for amatures, explain the sistuation to a foreigner is hard. Well Brazil is under a supreme court dictatorship. The leader Alexandre de Moraes a.k.a Xandao rule the country with just a pen, he send people to jail without proper trial, demand all social midias to put being taken down, only for outspoken profiles that go against them. Freedom of speach died in Brazil during the last election. If you want to understand we have to go back, all of the 11 judges but 3 if not all are corrupt and were put there by Lula and Dilma during 18 years This judges act as the were elected, walk as gods among us, give interviews and lectures and go over the other two powers all the time. The senators wont vote them out since the are also all corupt and have skelotons all together with the supreme judges. This are the same guys that orquetreted a couple taking Lula out of jail after many convictions with tons os proof and more than 12 judges rules. Make him free of charges and free to run agains Bolsonaro. This supreme court also rules over the elections in Brazil (only country in the world where we have the supreme court watching over the elections) and guess who was the president of this tribunal in the last elections, of course our beloved dictator Xandao. So they stole the elections in 3 parts. First each candidate has 50% of the air television and radio. Ofcourse it was proovred that in the North where Lula is stronger the balance was 80 up to 90% for Lula. Xandao dismissed the case in 1 hour without even looking. Second point they allowed fake news from lula in the adds and censor Bolsonaro to call Lula a thief and to associate him with Maduro that we all now are really close friends and crime associates. Last and most important part, the votes were rigged and prooved to be rigged. Data extract from the official elections court site showed that it was statiscally impossible to have some many anomalis, so many bails with Lula having 100% of the votes. Also this supreme judges forbiden any printing vote even this being approvred in congress years before. Bolsonaro clearly won the elections but Alexandre de Moraes and his friends stole it for Lula and all the thiefs. And then we come the final chapter. Milions of brazilians I mean tens of milions of people protested and said they did not want Lula back. ( you dont see Lula gathering 1000 people). The pacif protestes lasted months (no media covegered watch so ever). On 8th January a invasion of the 3 houses of power, similar to the Capitol episode, a bunch of pacif protester were led by infiltrade personal, with the aid of the police, no confrontation. Once inside the infiltrated started destroing the public building and everyone around the cene were arrested as well. So Xandao got exactly what he needed, or what he planned, tlan excuss to procecure everyone involved in this acts as terrorists, also people camping miles away, all put in jail, such elders, children, this people stayed in prison camps without a proper fast ruling. At the end of months of waiting were arrested without any legal prosecution. Everyone that speeks out like I just did, get arrested, bank accounts frozzen, all social media down in Brazil, journalists living in Eua with freddom of speach having passports canceled, accounts frozzen. Things are bad and finally someome to show up and expose all that we are facing. Thanks mr Musk! And of course you will have the beautiful people that will say I am a facist, and should die for telling the truth. Peace to all ✌️

lucosims

mambanera69

To be honest this is the first time I ever say anything in any kind of social midia, only doing it now because I live abroad with a second citzienship, but we are all scared to say anything, specially with Xandao asking all platforms to give all the profiles names and infos of everyone saying any truth of what is going on. Brazill did not became worst yet because the left never managed to articulate with the militaires to give a comunist couap as Lula always dreamed.

Bulky-Bid8213

You live abroad with a second citizenship? That’s crazy bro 😎

mambanera69

If you want I can marry your mother so you can get one too 😉

'Well Brazil is under a supreme court dictatorship.' Care to share 1 shred of evidence execpt twitter copy pasta of conspiracy theories? Don\`t want to be block in Brazil by Brazilian Judiciary? Don\`t comit crimes. Jackass!

Saymon_K_Luftwaffe

I'm Brazilian, from a state called Piauí, in the northeast of Brazil. The current government is led by an extreme left that supports Venezuela, Maduro, Iran, and many other dictatorships. The supreme court, led by judge Alexandre Egghead, made Lula da Silva, (until then convicted of the biggest corruption scheme in the world), an ex-convict with the right to run for President. After that, they issued decisions that harmed Bolsonaro, the leader of Direira, in the Presidential campaign, basically preventing him from campaigning. With Lula elected by a very small margin (just one city apart), judge Alexandre began issuing decisions, with Lula da Silva's approval, to silence anyone who denounced the corruption scheme and the nefarious arrangement to make a corrupt, a President. But then, it moved towards anyone who opposed the interests of both, until it reached anyone who could have a politically active voice, against issues such as abortion, the legalization of drugs and the easing of sentences. In short, it has become illegal to have an active voice politically aligned with the Right. But of course, they say it's all for democracy. A democracy that accepts no opposition... Elon Musk has played an extremely important role in preventing us from becoming a Venezuela or an Ecuador, but we are almost there. Please, just forget your political opinion and help us, no one deserves to live without the right to speak and discuss...

Backon21

Brazil is another failed state on the way to becoming the next Venezuela.

Beautiful-Tank9918

It\`s not. The country is too big with a very powerful elite and a sizeble middle class. There\`re checks and balances in place. The power isn\`t concentrated enough.;

dacution

Venezuela was the wealthiest country in South America before the socialists took over.

WetnessPensive

You have your timeline mixed up. When the Venezuelan economy failed, due to oil prices collapsing during the 1980s, you had presidents like Luis Herrera Campins and Jaime Lusinchi in power. Over the next decade, their brand of neoliberal/free market policies continued to be implemented, and most state assets were sold off or privatized to pay off debts and make up for collapsed oil prices and the country's historical over-reliance on oil exports. This led to the Venezuelan banking crisis of the mid 90s, caused by economic liberalization and banking deregulation. So during the 80s and 90s things were bad, inflation was worse, and the purchasing power of the average salary was a third or less of its 1978 level. What growth there was - decent highs for a couple years; 9% growth in the early 90s - went almost entirely to the upper classes who had a monopoly on land or credit. The poor got poorer. It was only then, after decades of this, that Chavez took over. For obvious reasons, he was very popular. The poorest saw a 5 to 15 percent rise in income. Some of this was due to stupid luck - he got in when oil prices soared - some due to good welfare policies. Regardless, things nose-dived the moment he made moves to nationalize Venezuela's oil. Coups, capital flights, inflation, continued mismanagement, and what Marx prophetically called Bonapartism (socialist movements becoming tyrannical to survive authoritarian capitalist counter-pressures) then inevitably snowballed. And sadly we know from history that there is only one way out of this. Embrace the Washington consensus, bow down to IMF restructuring programs, and accept that 45ish percent of your country will always be poor, with 15 percent of this being even worse off. The world, after all, is pretty much Ursula Leguin's 'The One's Who Walk Away From Omelas' writ large.

RNN1407

Oh yeah, the same middle class Lula has sworn to destroy?

LightVelox

Considering how much the country has been nosediving in the past like 12 years i wouldn't be so sure

Militop

Ridiculous claim. Brazil is the most powerful country in South America. It is a very respected country, as it should be.

Professional_Topic47

So the latest news is employees of X in Brazil have been told they will be [arrested](https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/1777523043298140273). Elon Musk is trying to get the personnel to a safe place.
