The colors are a bit distorted but I think numbers 6-7 is best. A banana past that starts to get too mushy and it starts to remind me of alcohol? And I am not a fan of that part.
I'm eight years sober and I've taken ripe bananas I've frozen and put them in a smoothie and it legit tasted/smelled like I had put dark rum in that bish, I about flipped because I only smelled it as I started chugging it. The boozy smell was overpowering lol
Hey good job with 8 years!
Personally I am life-long sober, and partially because common alcohol types smell/taste foul to me. I feel like I need to be so quick fruit all the damn time...

you can even see proof of this!! If you buy prepacked fruit and leave it in the fridge for too long there'll be bubbles in the liquid and it'll taste fizzy hehe (e.g. cantaloupe/pineapple/fruit mixes with no holes in the package)
Mainly referring to taste in bananas with colors 11 and beyond. But that might actually just be that the actual alcohol % starts to rise, but I am not super confident in this statement.
it’s true, there’s a million different alcohols created as some fruits ripen, or rather, not ripen
fruits that really ripen are converting starch to sugar and decay is when sugar will become alcohols
9 is perfect, 7-11 are edible.
They're often greener than 1 in the supermarket. Then I don't buy them, because I'd hate to wait for days until they're ripe.
12-15 make for some amazing icecream, just mash them up, mix with cream and put them in the freezer. If they are that ripe, they will have tons of sugar in them, making them perfect for Icecream
I've always found that the window of edibleness is smaller when you buy them too green. They take a long time to get ripe enough to eat, and then after that they start to over ripen really fast.
Never been able to convince my parents of this though.
I would have thought this would be the most common answer, but (aside from people who hate bananas) the most common seems to be around 4-6. I can't stand bananas that spotless. They taste like the peel does. I need it to get soft and melty in mouth. If it doesn't have that custardyness to it, I won't even touch it
Yeah for me it's 5 or 6 probably. The gap between 5 and 6 seems really noticeable here, like 5 should be a bit more yellow or 6 a little less. Somewhere between 5 and 6 is my perfect banana I think.
Fun fact: the more ripe & yellow a banana becomes, the more natural histamines it contains and the more likely it becomes that I’ll have an allergic reaction to it! I can’t eat yellow bananas, which is fine by me cause I hate the texture of over ripe bananas lol 🍌
i dont have a problem with the texture of the others but I do still prefer the texture of these
for me its mostly that they actually taste like something instead of just being slightly hardened bland slop
12 is best, 11 is edible. Under 11 has too firm of a texture and an odd flavor, and above 12 is too mushy and has a different odd flavor.
The only way I can describe the flavor of under-ripe bananas is "green".
yessss, a fellow 11 and 12 fan. I don't like how much the chart jumps between 8 9 10 11 because I think there should be more differences there. Dotty all over and eaten just before it gets mushy on the ends is best.
9 or 10 - No GREEN = bitter.
I prefer ZERO bitter with my bananas.
The \*brown\* is just external colouring on 7-11 & not going to affect the internal ingredient until you get to 12 or 13, where you might push it beyond \*ripe\* to over-ripe.
15 or higher, some people just don't have the balls. 11 is when they start tasting decent.
Also every single comment here seems to have zero votes. Is there one person that just thinks very strongly that everyone else has the wrong opinion regarding banana ripeness?
yeah 6 or 7? I don't like bananas tho in general, there's always something wrong whether it's texture or taste.
imo the proper use of bananas is banana bread
Bananas are the absolute worst. The texture is disgusting, the taste is disgusting, and the smell is disgusting. DOWN WITH BANANAS!!
![gif](giphy|WwdS3mR1EitHy8NPPS)
4-6
Just enough green for that weird, firm, slimy consistency we love to lick, lol.
Yeah, we... Kinda skin our bananas then suck them like lollipops. I'm pretty sure there's a ring of hell, JUST for us. 😂
for like, exactly 1 year I was OBSESSED with 4-6. I would eat the “edge” of the banana flesh and leave the gooey “core”. I never liked bananas before or after, it was JUST the one year. One of my strangest food phases.
12-15 are inedible for me, my gag reflex activities when eating anything mushy
The rest are fine, and my perfect one would be 6, which is exactly halfway between 1 and 11
4-9 I will eat and be happy with it. 10 I will consider eating if I'm really vibing with it. 11-12 I might eat if there is literally nothing else left, but I'll need granola or ice cream with it or something and have to basically turn it into a borderline ingredient. I will not be happy about it but I can eat it. 13-15 are ingredient stage bananas. 5-6 is my ideal banana. 1-4 make my mouth feel papery so they're too early. Because of this, I only buy 2 bananas at a time, since no one else in my house will eat bananas.
I'd eat anything from 1 to 12. I wouldn't be too happy about the ones past 9, but bananas are fucking amazing and I will not let them go if they're still 12.
My banana Goldilocks-Zone is quite slim.
5 is perfect… maybe 4 or 6. But 3 or 7 are already stretching it very very thin; I’d only eat those if I absolutely had to.
Anything else is only usable as a baking or milkshake ingredients. I cannot eat mushy banana…
Depends on what it's being used for. I like green banana for cooking, mid-ripe bananas for pb & banana sandwich, and super ripe ones for banana breads and other sweets.
I’m gonna move bananas 1 and 15 apart and take the banana in between them, breaking reality in the process…
Edit: eugh, do not recommend… the texture is weird and gross and bad :(
5-6 is perfect for me, i hate when bananas are too soft and sweet. 7 is the cutoff point for my taste, i will rarely eat one that isnt a little green. i prefer a slightly underripe banana which everyone around me thinks is crazy lol
The colors are a bit distorted but I think numbers 6-7 is best. A banana past that starts to get too mushy and it starts to remind me of alcohol? And I am not a fan of that part.

Congrats on sobriety!
Hey good job with 8 years! Personally I am life-long sober, and partially because common alcohol types smell/taste foul to me. I feel like I need to be so quick fruit all the damn time...
Im 19 years sober ;)
The bananas probably were a little fermented at that point so It makes sense
Fun fact: a lot of common fruits and fruit juices are slightly fermented and, therefore, slightly alcoholic, especially OJ.
For whichever ignorant soul downvoted this: https://www.tastingtable.com/1038120/the-scientific-reason-some-fruit-juices-contain-alcohol/ Peer reviewed study is linked in there for those interested.

I recently popped an entire strawberry into my mouth. Was feeling brave. Tasted like vodka 🤢
Totally with you on 6-7. If they get too ripe the texture is Wrong(tm).
I’ve never run into an alcohol smell with bananas, but I have noticed it with overripe pears.
Mainly referring to taste in bananas with colors 11 and beyond. But that might actually just be that the actual alcohol % starts to rise, but I am not super confident in this statement.

Fully agree with that assessment
9 is perfect, 7-11 are edible. They're often greener than 1 in the supermarket. Then I don't buy them, because I'd hate to wait for days until they're ripe.
9 is perfect, exactly! We have the same thoughts
I get a bunch of the ripe ones and a bunch of green ones if both are available.
I'd say 6-11 is edible, but not very enjoyable. I like 7-9 and would prefer 9.
9 10 peak banana time love when they get lil liver spots
I would have thought this would be the most common answer, but (aside from people who hate bananas) the most common seems to be around 4-6. I can't stand bananas that spotless. They taste like the peel does. I need it to get soft and melty in mouth. If it doesn't have that custardyness to it, I won't even touch it
Apologies but I have decided that the mushiness is objectively the worst texture that ever was and ever will be. Sorry, I do make the rules.
5 is perfect, 1-6 are edible, everything else becomes banana bread.
Yeah for me it's 5 or 6 probably. The gap between 5 and 6 seems really noticeable here, like 5 should be a bit more yellow or 6 a little less. Somewhere between 5 and 6 is my perfect banana I think.
I can only eat 1-4. Otherwise the texture is too mushy 🤚
Yass underripe gang represent! I always love it when it has that mild veggie taste to it
found my people
Green banana gang rise up 🙌
yall might like other plantains! there are types used in cooking that are pretty veggie-y/starchy compared to grocery store generic yellow bananas
Yupppp I love the firm texture of underripe bananas, I have to force myself to eat any others
yes!!! unripe fruit is best!
Me too. Sensory issues make the rest pretty gross.
Green banana gang hell yea
Fun fact: the more ripe & yellow a banana becomes, the more natural histamines it contains and the more likely it becomes that I’ll have an allergic reaction to it! I can’t eat yellow bananas, which is fine by me cause I hate the texture of over ripe bananas lol 🍌
i dont have a problem with the texture of the others but I do still prefer the texture of these for me its mostly that they actually taste like something instead of just being slightly hardened bland slop
1-8 edible 9-15 I leave until someone else in the house either eats them, cooks with them, or throws them out.
This is truly the way
Do you also enjoy eating cardboard and house plants? /j
Hear I am enjoying to eat paper for no good reason really.
9 is fine.
15 for a delicious banana bread. 8 for a delicious snack. 9-14 smoothies. 1-7 need some time alone.
Time… alone? 🥴
was gonna mention the banana bread, those ones are perfect for it
12 is best, 11 is edible. Under 11 has too firm of a texture and an odd flavor, and above 12 is too mushy and has a different odd flavor. The only way I can describe the flavor of under-ripe bananas is "green".

11 looks delicious and perfect! The dots are so even it probably doesn't even have any bruises 💛🤎💛🤎
9 or 10 - No GREEN = bitter. I prefer ZERO bitter with my bananas. The \*brown\* is just external colouring on 7-11 & not going to affect the internal ingredient until you get to 12 or 13, where you might push it beyond \*ripe\* to over-ripe.
The riper the better! But at a point they go sour again, like 15 would be 😕 I like 11-14
I couldn’t agree with this more
9 or 10
9 is the best and I will tolerate 6 and onwards. If its too underripe, then it leaves a yucky film on my teeth and tongue that i cant stand
Same! The acidity makes my teeth so fuzzy it feels like the enamel is about to dissolve. Spinach kinda does that too.
The only good banana is an incinerated banana. VILE. Thanks for doing your part to eradicate them, OP
It took me too long to find a banana hater comment I was feeling very alone
BANANA HATERS RISE UP!!!
You sound like my friend Alex lmfao
15 or higher, some people just don't have the balls. 11 is when they start tasting decent. Also every single comment here seems to have zero votes. Is there one person that just thinks very strongly that everyone else has the wrong opinion regarding banana ripeness?
6
i was confused as to why everyone only liked the under-ripe ones until i noticed the subreddit 😂
11 is my optimal snack. Call me crazy, but the more freckles they have the sweeter they taste.
7-10 are for eating as is, 13-15 are for banana bread and similar baking, the rest are for waiting until one of those two regions.
9-10
6 or 7
9 or 10 is peak banana time but 7 and 8 is acceptable
none. bananas are too mushy for me
6 and 7 are the only ones I eat. I've always been a banana nazi but I didn't realise it's due to autism but DUH of course it is
yeah 6 or 7? I don't like bananas tho in general, there's always something wrong whether it's texture or taste. imo the proper use of bananas is banana bread
For me it’s 4, 5, and 6! And maybe 7. Also apparently a banana has different probiotic/prebiotic benefits at different stages of ripeness. 🤓
0, the smell alone is enough to make me puke.
1-6
Zero. Bananas are a scourge on this planet and must be destroyed.
Literally had nightmares about bananas as a kid, it took me years to be able to even touch one
![gif](giphy|2XskdWuNUyqElkKe4bm) me reading this comment about my favorite fruit like
![gif](giphy|5wWf7GR2nhgamhRnEuA|downsized)
Bananas are the absolute worst. The texture is disgusting, the taste is disgusting, and the smell is disgusting. DOWN WITH BANANAS!! ![gif](giphy|WwdS3mR1EitHy8NPPS)
I've never been able to eat one since the smell is so bad. So I have no idea on the taste or texture so I'll put my trust in your assessment.
The texture is mush and the taste is very strong and it just stays in your mouth for way too long. They actually taste exactly how they smell.
That sounds dreadful
Bananas are a cursèd food, the correct number is 0
None, bananas are evil
None. I shall banish them all to the dark realm where they shall never come near me again
7-10
0 bananas are vile.
For me 5-6 are the best
4-5
5-6. A little green is nice. No mushy brown for me, thank you.
6-12 for smoothies 12-15 for banana bread 1-3 are not ready yet 4-5 if i need fiber
4-6 Just enough green for that weird, firm, slimy consistency we love to lick, lol. Yeah, we... Kinda skin our bananas then suck them like lollipops. I'm pretty sure there's a ring of hell, JUST for us. 😂
8-9 maybe even 10
10
11-13 is superior. anything less ripe is inedible to me.
I’m allergic, so none of the above. They all make my mouth feel like I’ve just eaten a piece of glass. But 6-8 is the correct answer
for like, exactly 1 year I was OBSESSED with 4-6. I would eat the “edge” of the banana flesh and leave the gooey “core”. I never liked bananas before or after, it was JUST the one year. One of my strangest food phases.
1-6 are all edible, 5 is perfect. 7-11 are banana bread 12-15 are going in the outside garbage
None of them. I hate bananas with a burning passion.
6-8 is perfect, past that is for banana bread
I like when they're still green honestly. Not like the most green where they're still rough, but just below yellow. I'd say between 2-7
5-6, anything else is too green or too brown
9 is ideal, I am still happy with 10 usually
15 😈😈😈
💪
1-15 and even beyond those numbers. I'm on the other extreme end on food pickiness and just see it as fuel.
The one that's in the trash :)
They're all bad!

5-7, I can eat 8-9 but I don’t like to really.
[удалено]
7-8, if it's less sweet, I'll just add a pinch of pink salt
11-14. I love when they're super sweet and creamy and taste like vanilla custard! My comfort food is textural, I love creamy textures.
[удалено]
6 minimum, 11 max, anything after that is an ingredient
8 is peak banana performance, but I will accept 6, 7, 9, or 10
6-7 is the best🤤 8 is pretty good too
12-15 are inedible for me, my gag reflex activities when eating anything mushy The rest are fine, and my perfect one would be 6, which is exactly halfway between 1 and 11
6-15 with anything after 10 to be used for baking.
What's the purpose? Mushy banana is amazing as an ingredient, firm banana is amazing to eat fresh on it's own.
6-7
[удалено]
5-7. up to 10 if I have to
Between a 6 and an 8 I like em a bit hard and bitter
5-6 and nothing else
I shall gladly accept 7-10, but 8 and 9 are the ideals
4-9 I will eat and be happy with it. 10 I will consider eating if I'm really vibing with it. 11-12 I might eat if there is literally nothing else left, but I'll need granola or ice cream with it or something and have to basically turn it into a borderline ingredient. Because of this, I only buy 2 bananas at a time, since no one else in my house will eat bananas.
15 cause I can make banana bread
6, 7, 8
3-7, 8 or 9 if im desperate. That said I generally don't eat bananas by themselves. I put them in yoghurt.
7-9
I'd eat anything from 1 to 12. I wouldn't be too happy about the ones past 9, but bananas are fucking amazing and I will not let them go if they're still 12.
4,5,6 for me. My partner is a 7,8, any thing past that is banana bread or banana pancakes
6
1-5
I’m mildly allergic to them but 9-10 is the correct answer
6+
My banana Goldilocks-Zone is quite slim. 5 is perfect… maybe 4 or 6. But 3 or 7 are already stretching it very very thin; I’d only eat those if I absolutely had to. Anything else is only usable as a baking or milkshake ingredients. I cannot eat mushy banana…
Between 3-5. Any banana with brown spots is too sweet
1-5 are all identical 6,7 are a bit on the ripe side 8 is where i draw the line between edible and vomiting
6-8 for me
7 when I want something sweet and chewy but 9 for a regular snack. Damn, I really want a banana right now
Anywhere from 4 to the top ⅔ of 7.
10. If any of you pick 1 I’m calling the police.
It should only be legal to consume 1-5 if your excuse is prebiotics/fiber
5. Every other banana pictured is terrible. 3 is an imposter, like it's not even real
Anything over 6 is inedible without being cooked first.
8-9. However, if I’m having a BBQ, 13-15 is best. Put it on there until it cracks open, fill it with rum and brown sugar. Delicious.
1 on purchase, 6-7 when eating and 15 if you want to make banana bread.
somewhere between 9 and 10
14 BANANA BREAD TIME BAYBEEE
9.25
its so sour before like 7 😭 8-12 is nice
5 or 6
5
1-4 or bust.
1-5, up to 8 when I'm desperate
1, I like my bananas like I like my men
8
11 is perfect for me. Anything lower tastes like nothing to me. I'd love to try anything but the chiquita banana.
If it's not green, It's safe to eat
none, they are touching
Anything after 7 is inedible. 2-4 sweet delicious treat.
5-6, i like them slightly tough, it gets even the slight bit mushy and im out.
8 for raw eating. 15 for banana muffins/bread/pancakes
9-11
[удалено]
Around the 8-9 zone. When it's soft but without any horrid brown bits inside.
7-8 is probably best
1-4. I can't eat anything else.
6-8 is best for regular eating. 9-11 is acceptable for making a peanut butter banana mash. 12 and up, that's being made into muffins.
8-10 are good.
15 is fine for raw consumption. Once the peel is devoid of any yellow coloration, it's banana bread time.
Depends on what it's being used for. I like green banana for cooking, mid-ripe bananas for pb & banana sandwich, and super ripe ones for banana breads and other sweets.
9.5
I’m gonna move bananas 1 and 15 apart and take the banana in between them, breaking reality in the process… Edit: eugh, do not recommend… the texture is weird and gross and bad :(
5 is the best, and I will die on this hill.
4
For myself, 6. For my mom, 1, or maybe even greener than that lol

4
I like 6
[удалено]
I’ll eat a 7 but I prefer a 10
6
6 :D
None. Fuck bananas and their awful smell, texture, and feel.
8!!! Any green then I have cotton mouth, any browner that's going to be bread or compost.
11!
7 <3
2-6 are edible for me, I think
I'm a 13-14 person. If they are too ripe they upset my stomach, I like them to be soft and sweet.
5-6 is perfect for me, i hate when bananas are too soft and sweet. 7 is the cutoff point for my taste, i will rarely eat one that isnt a little green. i prefer a slightly underripe banana which everyone around me thinks is crazy lol
9 or 10
exactly 5. no exceptions
None of them. I can't stand bananas
2-4 for frying, 5-9 for eating, 10-14 for banana bread
