I was driving my mom and aunt around Boston, when they started discussing what looked like a large residential building. They wondered how much it cost to live there.
They didn’t know it was the Suffolk County Jail. I had a lot of fun telling them that while it was rent free, there was still a heavy price involved.
There is a jail up in Rochester, the Monroe county, and they have little windows like nothing bigger than maybe half an inch but they have them. I was down at park ave fest by the jail and all I could hear was the inmates screaming and yelling at people down at the festival.
That's a dumber name than Al the "-gate" names that people have come up with for various scandals. Do people think it appears tall enough to scrape the jail?
Interesting. I just interviewed an architecture firm in NYC said they won a big competition about designing jails in NYC. They said it may be controversial when it hit the news. They are hiring people for facade design.
This is probably it. I want to wait for more reputable news website tho.
Prisons usually are outside of town. This isnt a prison though, its a jail. Jails need to be accessible to courts, usually courts are located near the center of town. Not to mention if you have, for instance, NYPD arrest someone and place them in a jail staffed by NYPD, what sense does it make for the jail to be outside of NYPDs jurisdiction.
I’m just going off OP calling it a prison but my point still stands it’s a strange thing to have a giant slavery high rise next to Fortune 500 skyscrapers. It’s still a weird thing we’ve developed as a society.
Also a jurisdiction is a concept humans made up. We can choose how we use them and define them. They could easily build it somewhere in the sticks and the state could deem it NYPD jurisdiction.
