I don’t think switching brands will do you any favors. Toyota is having countless engine issues with their new turbo V6 and transmissions, GM and Ford use the same transmission in their trucks, and new Rams are definitely questionable. It looks like you got a bad one and have some bad luck, but you can get that from any brand. I don’t think you’ll get any better or worse reliability switching to GM or Ram. They all have their issues but I’d stick with Ford trucks.

The zf8 and 5.7 hemi is a good drivetrain The rest of the truck….. eh

OrganicBobcat8630

I was mainly referring to the new 3.0L Hurricane. I agree, the 5.7L Hemi was great as long as you didn’t skimp on maintenance and prevented the lifter tick. It was definitely more reliable than the 5.3L and 6.2L from GM. Now Rams are a toss up, just like when the EcoBoost was released back in 2011. A 540 horsepower 3.0L turbo isn’t something that screams reliability. ZF8 speed is definitely more reliable than the 10R80 surface value, though.

SelectStudy7164

I did not know they’re stopping the 5.7 That sucks

OrganicBobcat8630

Yeah they’re putting the 3.0L into the 1500s now, 420 or 540 horsepower versions.

Do what I did when this happened to me. Tell them, I really hope this doesn’t shift erratically when I pick it up. I’d hate to make the news when my truck loses control somehow and I drive it through your fucking showroom walls into new vehicles. You told me the transmission was fine!

My 10R80 went out at 63k they gave me a new assembly, so far so good. I hear you, but I’m even still watching the Toyota engine recall. Not sure if you can get a Japan manufactured Toyota, tough choices all around. Ford PremiumCARE if you do stick with ford, look up places to get the best price on it.

cessna18860

Thank you. Yes. I'll definitely do the PremiumCARE.

Fyi it still doesn't cover a bunch of crap. You're at the mercy of the dealer doing the service first off, and ford corporate second. Examples of items my platinum premium care didn't cover at <80k miles, with prices- Coolant hose - $970 Phasers (covered by recall, not premium care) Coil packs immediately following phasers - ~$700 Catalytic converter (1200 miles after phasers) - $1500 for one (even though the other is almost out, they refuse to replace both). If you're already dealing with a crappy service dept, I'd steer clear of ford. *EDIT - they downvoted him, for he told the truth

andre1157

Did all of your ignition coils fail at the same time? Or did you take it upon yourself to replace them all since 1 failed

Parking-Raisin6129

I haven't had my vehicle since may 3rd, but I denied that service. So tbh I'm not sure. There is a sporadic vibration that occurs completely randomly, that sounds like an all terrain tire rubbing on a wheel liner. It happens at low and high speeds, and is the same frequency regardless of speed. If this is a symptom of a bad coil for the 3.5l eb, it is wildly different than the mod motor coils lol. This started immediately after having the phasers replaced, literally as I was driving off the lot. After a couple weeks dealer couldn't recreate the problem, so we took it back home. The next code thrown, a month later, was the cat failure. The cat code was thrown twice before the phasers, and ford drive cycled/ couldn't recreate the problem. They added catalyst at one point and said it was fixed. I was denied a loaner vehicle for all of these visits. The shortest visit was 4 days, most of them were a week, and this visit has been 8 weeks, if they're not done Saturday. Didn't matter that I have first day loaner vehicle, extended loaner vehicle, etc. They refuse. The only time they accepted, we were told that since their chosen rental car company didn't have any ford vehicle available, we weren't getting one.

Ford Premium care this is the way.

I have a 2018 F150 5.0 FX4 and had the same symptoms as you. And it was getting worse. I complained to Ford not long after purchasing my vehicle and they “reset” it claiming it had to re-learn my driving style. Naturally this did nothing. Then about two years later I took it in just before I was out of warrantee and told them I wanted a quote to replace the valve body and accused them of not being able to help me. Apparently they had some new software and a guy who actually knew what he was doing and by god, they actually fixed it through software. It’s been fine ever since. They said something about exercising the valves and installing new software. It has never had a hard shift after getting that done. I still think the transmission is crap, but I can live just fine with it forever as it is now. It’s been two years since then. I would take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

Thanks for the insights. Certainly won't be taking my 2024 to this service department. I too had odd/hard transmission shifts early on. Had it looked at with 17,000 miles. Same as you, reset learning tables. Temporarily better. Started acting up much more at 57,000 miles.
