One of my top 5 favourite bands I think. Anyone missing on Chutes Too Narrow should do their homework, the album's *flawless*. Also.. please look into James' lyrics if you haven't yet (anyone reading). He's managed to tap into so many moments of genuine revelation and life truths across all his albums and I don't think he gets enough credit for it. This is not just a cool-sounding hip band, some of the songs are genuinely deep studies of many different aspects of life. Not bad material at all for whenever you feel personally lost.

mtpugh67

Definitely in my top 5 as well. I agree, his lyrics are top notch and very thought provoking.

The Shins are accused of being “overrated” and “boring” so much that I now find them to be underrated.

ChinchillaSilver

the shins accused of being overrated is so 2006 i'm back in high school. it's like an urban legend by now. like aligators in the sewers.

salmonerd202

I learned about the from garden state and I get so bored any time I try listening to them.

fork_on_the_floor2

Dammit me to! I can't hear a single Shins song without seeing Zach Braffs face.

salmonerd202

It’s ok chocolate bear…

Much-Camel-2256

I used to play them on a radio show before that movie, and for an invitation to the release party for the second album. I was a broke student on the east coast and couldn't go

Karrottz

Chutes too Narrow is a STRONG 9.5. Saint Simon is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard

TheLastStopOnTheLine

I honestly remember being really into them when I was younger. Port of Morrow especially, for some reason. I think James mercer is a great songwriter, and I think they have a pretty consistent catalog. Lots of great stuff. Classic even. But looking back on it, nothing really makes me excited or nostalgic. Still good overall, but I feel like they definitely had their moment... and the moment has passed, for me atleast. I rarely find myself coming back to any Shins record now.

Legitimate-Umpire-39

love this band.

Haymother

Exceptional band, classic song writing. Kissing the Lipless and Sleeping Lessons are two of my favourite songs

nosleeponbeach

One of the core bands that got me interested in music, even if I don’t listen as much now (I still love it, just never really in the mood for it). I went to their Oh, Inverted World Tour in 2022 and it was one of the best shows I’ve been to, if only to hear one of my favorite albums played front to back. I met Mercer after the show and he was one of the sweetest celebrities I’ve met, just a really genuine and human individual. I’ve moved on from them being an absolute favorite but I still find their music incredible.

BentoBoxNoir

I used to practice in their old practice space!

carz728

Anyone who says they don’t like chutes to narrow is either lying to you or hates fun.

Jibbyjab123

I listen to wincing the night away and oh inverted world on my tape deck on repeat sometimes. They are my favorite band if I had to pick one.

StellarCracker

Heard one song by them so will check out more

El_Giganto

I really like Oh, Inverted World. Should give the rest another go, but the rest didn't click for me.

zRobertez

All my friends in high school loved them but I couldn't never get into them. Maybe I'll try again

plasma_dan

I fucking love the Shins. Most certainly in my top 10, maybe even my top 5. One of the few bands where I can listen to all four of those albums all the way through and never feel the need to skip a track. There's enough diversity in the material where it never gets boring, but it's always catchy and the lyrics are top-notch.

For anyone who loves The Shins but hasn't heard of Broken Bells, definitely check out [this album](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m-6LCQN8jA&list=PLcaiBMfemPD9HhsQGWhVFcfC8enN73FM-&ab_channel=BrokenBells-Topic) with James Mercer on vocals/guitar.
