Wait until you hear about infamous difficulty… it’s incredibly difficult and you have to take out the cultists early before they can shoot back, and figure out who’s worth targeting

Laxativelog

That'll be a pass from me! Are there more of these "passenger events" through the game? If there are I'm just gonna go ahead and refund. This mechanic has never been good in any game like... Ever haha.

Lord_Antheron

There’s one more I can remember. Although not nearly as awful, because you get a big mounted gun.

Laxativelog

One more Is fine. The game looks like it's pretty good. Probably gonna just drop the difficulty to easy for this section. I've given it about 50 restarts now and am genuinely frustrated. I don't understand what you're supposed to do because you can't take cover. This might be the first shooter I've ever played where genuinely don't think I can play on hard 100% of the way through. Must be getting old lmao.

SmilingMangos

Isn't Ctrl for PC is to duck for cover? I haven't touched FC5 in years, but I do know there was a ducking feature

Laxativelog

I'm using a controller at the moment. So it's B but B is used to lean in and out of the window. As far as I can tell it's cross your fingers and hope for the best.

bltburglar

Not really, there’s a couple instances where the game will put you in a linear dungeon which can be very challenging at higher levels and as Lord_Antheron mentioned one with a character chase but that one is quite easy given the mounted gun. Honestly the biggest problem with the game is the scripted missions where you have to do linear quests to move forward, but those aren’t all that common and the game gives you a remarkable amount of freedom in basically everything else.

Mattigator

I don't think infamous ng+ is as bad as hard NG if you got all your perks.. maybe it's just a fluke but I passed it first try

SmilingMangos

At one point...everyone was doing the infamous mode to get the Rookie Outfit. Tbh, the DLC weapons from Mars made it a lot easier. For the intro car chase mission, threw dynamites where the Peggies will be spawning.

Laxativelog

Do you start the game with the dlc weapons? The little skirmish they put you in at the house wasn't bad. Sneaking around and taking the nutters out was fine. It felt good! But being trapped in the car not being able to do anything but get shot at is driving me nuts. I've had better luck not shooting at anything in the beginning and don't need a medkit there anymore but I've never made it to the dynamite section with a medkit remaining. Leaning in or not I get hit with potshots all over the place. I genuinely have no idea how it could be done on a HARDER difficulty. Run it 1000x till you make it? How could it get worse than it is bahahaha.

SmilingMangos

I think you get the DLC weaps after you leave Dutch's island. Yeah the intro car chase gives you the ptsd.

r3mod_3tiym

It's a shame they removed manual healing. It wasn't present in 5 or New Dawn, so you have to find a medkit if you want to heal. Thankfully Far Cry 6 brought it back and I'd say the mechanic is at its best

Laxativelog

I remember doing that in FC2! I can't believe how many farcrys have come out since I bought one. Jeez man.

r3mod_3tiym

3, 4, Primal, 5, New Dawn, 6, and 7 is rumored to take place in North Korea, though not sure when it'll be out. I wish I could recommend some like 2 but it's kinda in a league of its own. They made 3 and it was a huge hit so most of them have been similar to 3 with some changes here and there. If there's one thing Ubisoft likes to do with their games, it's experiment, for better or for worse lol. You've got some catching up to do but if you buy any of the other ones and have any questions feel free to ask me. I've played hours of all of them except 4!

Laxativelog

Welp of course they changed the formula when I stepped away hahaha. I'll keep that in mind going forward and just treat it like a new unknown IP. If I pick up any of the other I may just do that and reach out! Appreciate the information and the offer!

niiXsan

Don't forget blood dragon!

Mattigator

You don't start with the weapons but you can start with a body armor if you wear it when you start New Game + 😏 I think that helped me survive infamous quite a bit

Theoldestsun

I made it on infamous. You absolutely have to land shots and from distance, that's the own way. If you don't take out the peggies they take out you. You're going to die a lot but keep grinding and you'll get it eventually.

Laxativelog

I'll go watch a video of someone doing that instead maybe. Absolutely zero part of me has any interest in that challenge. These games must have taken a turn for the hardcore crowd in the last 10 years for it to be even remotely close to this difficult when the game STARTS. Not even the older CoDs on Veteran were this punishing. Only game I've played that was this unforgiving right off the bat was GRAW. 1 shot 1 kill for the whole game. Brutal. But that was a tactical shooter. This... This is Farcry. Maybe that's what it trying to be now? It's not what I was expecting though if it supposed to be. There should be a cover system if it wants to go that route. Anyways I'm rambling. I appreciate all the tips everyone has given! Congrats on making it through. I still needed to use a medkit on freaking easy.

Theoldestsun

I never made it through infamous. I defeated John and Hope, went to defeat Jacob and got stuck. I came back from deployment and my kids wanted to play again (they're 5 and 9) so I started over back on easy so they could play too. Infamous was ridiculously hard but at the same time I enjoyed paying like that. Once I got my play style dialed in hard just wasn't enough, even with HUD disabled. I like to snipe a lot and use hired guns as well as plant explosives strategically whenever possible so I like going up against an advisory who obliterates me when I get caught off guard. That said I understand not everyone does. I can relate. I also like to put easy on and just enjoy fishing or walking around for hours without a care in the world too. Far cry 5 has been my mental safe space for a little over a year now so I have way too much time invested there.

Laxativelog

Man I hear having a game that's just your go to for brain breaks. It was Borderlands 1 for me for many years. It's pretty awesome your kids wanna bond over gaming man. Have fun! Once upon a time I was all in on the harder the better. I still enjoy that at times. Y'know... If the difficulty is genuine and not artificially inflated like it feels here. I put it on hard now that I'm back on the island and it feels fine again. I just don't agree with that opener at all lol.

Mattigator

I didn't think that part was worth the stress. Putting it on easy you usually don't even have to shoot the gun or do anything 😅 then put it back on Hard in the options screen

Laxativelog

Yeah I think that's what I'm gonna be doing too haha! What an insane road block 10 minutes into the game.

gingerbeardman79

I had my best results not actually using the dynamite while going through the train yard. I saved it for the roadblocks & bridge section.. I think? It's been a few years. I found it was more important to pick reload spots carefully than where I used medkits. Running the AR-C in semi-auto helps a lot with this. This was on infamous difficulty with zero HUD. I just decided to try it not long after it was added to the game, having found hard difficulty to be.. well, not so much. It took me I think 4 or 5 tries to hone in on that perfect run and get it done. Then I eventually finished the game on infamous, and decided to try to do it again. Never got past that opening chase section again. Literally ever. No clue how many attempts I made, but after the third consecutive day's gaming session spent just trying unsuccessfully to repeat my earlier feat I threw in the towel. I started a new character back down on hard, figuring I'd get another playthrough under my belt and build my confidence a little before trying again, but I got about 2/3 through the campaign, and then mostly played arcade maps until I eventually tired of the game.

Laxativelog

That does seem to be the common thing here. Anyone who has done it got it done in a handful of attempts! Definitely skill involved but there is no way it isn't a ton of RNG too lol. I've gone back to some games in the past and been like "how the hell did I even do this before???". Seems like you had that experience here! I'm assuming infamous opens up after you beat the game once? It wasn't in the options to pick or I would have started there instead.

gingerbeardman79

My understanding is it opens up with New Game+ but again, it's been a few years since I played the game. And yeah, there's absolutely a random element to it. I would never claim it's pure skill, because I'm a fucking potato, so how did I get past it at all if that's the case? Lol I only got to a place where I could get through the campaign on infamous difficulty due to the sheer volume of time I'd already spent playing the game before it was added. [just shy of 760 hours according to xb live stats]

SufficientAuthor5095

I dreaded that opening scene but loved FC 5 so much and did it on Infamous difficulty. All I did after a few tries was turn the sound down a bit because the repeated dialogue makes you crazy, try to wait as long as you can before using each health pack, try and immediately shoot the vehicles following you where they first come out and try to get the driver. Make each dynamite count. After that it can be a bit random. It took me around 25 tries on Hard but only 3 on Infamous. Needs nerfing for sure

Laxativelog

Fucking Nancy! Dear Lord I'm telling you what I hate that character already and technically Ive only known him for 10 minutes lmao. When I went through it on easy I couldn't freaking BELIEVE how long that whole scene was. I'd never even made it halfway! Maybe after I finish the rest on hard I'll try it again a few times but holy crap man. Screw that intro lmao.

BoringJuiceBox

I beat it on infamous you can too! Dont throw the dynamite too closs to you and remember you can "cook" it! Fc5 is my favorite game of all time I hope you get to enjoy it!

Laxativelog

Put it back on hard after easying the truck drive. It feels totally fine again. I don't get it lol. That chase is just so out of place. I'm definitely gonna play and finish it now though! I accidentally left the game open so I'm way outside of the return window now haha.

A-a-ronMcChicken

When I did that chase section on Infamous difficulty I must have died 20+ times. It was by sheer luck I made it out of there. After that the game was naturally a breeze. Jacob's tests were tough and so was his fight, but other than that it wasn't too bad. If you can get past that opening, you're good for the rest of the run! I agree though, its bad and a horrible opening

john_smith_doe

You take more damage when you pop out of the window. Get inside when you reload. Otherwise you have to be perfect when cooking the dynamite
