For real, playing in the grassy fields of Montana was sick. Roaming buffalo, rednecks, a mission to cook rocky mountain oysters, doomsday preppers fighting a civil war against a rightwing militia... It screams 'Murica
That's actually the thing I dislike about it the most, and why I'll probably never finish it. I just really don't like the little American town in the middle of nowhere setting. Reminded me of Banshee which I also dislike. And the music was not for my taste.
The setting. Not a lot of big budget games are set in middle America.
The plot. There's something fascinating about religious cults who are off grid.
Aside from our main character, the deputy, I like most of the characters. They felt lived-in, if that makes sense.
[The Baptism](https://youtu.be/VokeHE550_w?si=nRj7xwgoo0Kdq32E) live action trailer is a great proof of concept for a television series, in my opinion.
Gotta be real, I am not a fan of how so many big budget games are always set in urban cities or tropical islands. Being set in Montana was an amazing choice
I agree.. I think cities are ugly, dirty, and hate driving in them.
A ton of people love cities, and I love those folks because it leaves more rural area for me.Ā
I didnāt grow up in Montana, but I did grow up mountainside in the sticks. It feels like home.
an incredible amount of games are set in America I actually wish they would do it more somewhere else... however this is obviously not the case for Far Cry series and I absolutely loved the new setting even though it is in America, felt different
I agree. To clarify, when I say middle America I mean Montana the state. There's a ton of games based in New York, Chicago, and LA, yes. But much less outside those regions, specifically a more rural area like Montana.
All I know is I laughed out loud multiple times during his cutscenes and was pretty disappointed all around by the character.
I donāt buy that anyone would follow him and Iām fairly confident that ALL of Montana would laugh him off as well in real life.
Objection! Thatās a plothole. Remember, Dutch said that there are no signals coming in or out of Hope County. Logically, there would therefore be no way for anyone to get this information, let alone an unseen DJ.
Theory: once you blow up a bunker or two, thatās when the radio starts coming in. Probably blew up the/a jammer.
I could be wrong, but I donāt remember hearing the random ānewsā over the car radios until later in the game.Ā
The setting was incredible for me. Probably made it easier that the Deputy was a blank slate and the story could focus a lot more on the villains, of which John was my favorite (and a subject of many fics I wrote.)
The music and the environment.
The setting is pretty interesting; I mean everyone hates cults, but a lot of people find them interesting to read about at the same time.
Preppers and survivalists are also an interesting genre you donāt see too often. Add in all the hillbilly characters too.
It plays pretty well as a basic hunting and fishing simulator.
The side quests and missions are all well thought out and well written. There are some equally hilarious and horrifying scenarios you find yourself involved in. Some of the most memorable side characters in the series can be found in 5.
The main villains are pretty awful people; but thatās the point. Youāre meant to hate them. Youāre not meant to like the protagonists.
While the players character is mute, the emphasis is on all the characters you meet. And thereās a lot to play with in this redneck setting.
The Guns for Hire and the Specialists also make up for the main characters lack of character. Itās a lot of fun finding weird Guns for Hire and taking them along on the journey.
Beautiful setting that reminds me of home. Music /soundtrack thats great. Best weapon selection to date. Attack helicopters. The NPCs could be my figurative neighbor's, and coming over from Fallout 4, the prepping scene is my jam. The story is on the edge of being possible. Itās believable. Loved finding all the prepper stashes.Ā
Companions were good personalities and effective.Ā
Iām not gonna downvote you, I just think you have horrible taste.
I agree with everything except weapon selection. Gunplay in fc 5 was my favorite, but I just wish they added a couple more guns to keep things interesting. They had alot of pistols and decent ar selection, but the lmg and smg options left me wanting a little.
I often roll with either the .45 Vector (I think itās called?) or the blunderbuss; Iām all about the rate of fire.Ā
I liked how in ND they allowed you to upgrade the weapons you unlock. Helps offset the spongie-ness that a lot of folks took issue with.
Landscape is the most beautiful in any Far Cry game, in my opinion. The story is the most interesting to me. I really like the guns, the side quests are all really cool.
So a lot of what I like about it is subjective, but thatās how it is with preferring any of the games.
And I donāt really like your argument that āin what world would Joseph have been rightā, because far cry has never been a realistic game. Some random American guy isnāt gonna show up to a pirate controlled island and liberate it all by himself. Some random guy isnāt going to show up to an authoritarian country and lead a revolution against its leader (talking about 4 here, not 6).
And I love both those games, but the setting of 5 honestly feels much more grounded than the others, with the exception of the Bliss.
Is strange because it has the less exotic location of all Far Cry games. I had my doubts at the beginning but the story is pretty good, the scenery is majestic (even though is just forest and rocky mountains) and the music is very soothing and ambient
Itās really neat and unique. In the other games we fought war lords and militaryās in mountains and islands as rich dudes or mercs. Now, we are playing as a cop in Montana fighting cultists. Plus, they have great music, story, map, quests, and villains
It's because I grew up in a cult and the tonation and choice of words simply nails the setting. And because mods make the game just perfect in my opinion.
i just started playing through with the resistance mod and the winter hope county mod and it feels like a whole different game, and i mean that in a good way
The writing, the music and the overall vibe. Iām never someone to play with companions but I love the fangs for hire. Joseph being right but also not being right and the whole discourse around him, and the amount of manipulation that takes place within the game and to your player character entirely. All of it is just so good, Iām obsessed really.
I'm just gonna make a list of everything I liked, this is just subjective
-PHENOMENAL sound track
-engaging gunplay (granted does get annoying and spongy when dealing with heavy enemies. For PC players I highly recommend the better ballistics mod on Nexus. Super easy installation when combined with the resistance mod)
I personally love the gun selection but I'm a sucker for cowboy guns so it's got what I want
-excellent antagonists
-player based pacing and a non linear story that allows for each playthrough to feel different
-funny dialogue
-responsive companions (can be dumb, but give accurate call outs for enemy fire and enemy archetypes)
-absolutely stunning visuals with a wonderful world space
-excellent sound design
-enemies that aren't psychic when detecting you, they go to where they heard you. A huge pet peeve of mine in other games
-excellent voice acting, especially by Greg Bryk (Joseph Seed)
-Replayability value
-arcade editor that adds a nigh endless amount of extra content
-decent customization in terms of outfits
-a bear named Cheeseburger (for legal purposes this a joke)
I'm personally a big fan of Montana, I think the state is beautiful and I really like researching cults so that in its own has a huge appeal to me.
Ubisoft did extensive research on cults, including hiring people who's entire career is finding and uprooting cults from towns and that adds to the realism. Ubisoft talked about how this game was supposed to help bring awareness to religious extremism theres a video of them interviewing the guy who helped with cults who said the goal was "you could make this any religion in any place and any time, and the story could still ring true"
As for the ending it annoyed me too, a lot. Like all that effort just for a bomb? but that ending was written in the stars ever since far cry 4. The players actions in that influenced a world war that caused the events of far cry 5. Joseph wasn't right just 'because'- this was a long time coming. Also there's some side quests that make it seem like Edens gate had inside knowledge of what's going internally in the government. I don't wanna spoil the quest but yeah. Also the radio tells you how bad global tension was, this was going to happen regardless of the deputies actions really, despite them tying it to the endings.
Edit- typos and I cleaned up some unfinished thoughts, wrote this in the waiting room at the doctors office
On the car radio there will occasionally be news about tensions with North Korea. As you progress through the game, the news reports get increasingly more concerning, mentioning impending war.
Everything. It feels like itās happening in my backyard. I love the story, villains and characters. I feel like I map is broke up well that I feel like Iām always fighting against nature in the best way. As for guns, theyre guns. Theyāre fine. I use the crossbow. But yeah I think itās the best. I dropped farcry 6 when it came out about halfway thru and replayed 5 for my third time. 4 is very good too:)
Literally everything (btw this gonna be a rant so its cool to disagree with me)
The setting, the music, the weapons, the villains and heroās, the lore and how the game plays out.
Im a massive cult fanatic and how they portrayed Edenās gate and the father were spectacular.
The music was so good that i bought 2 fucking albums, the hope county cult songs and their choir equivalent.
The DLCās are the best because they just chose the surrealist places/timezones and most craziest of ideas to set a far cry game which was awesome and highly replayable.
Joseph Seed (and his family) were portrayed so compelling that i actually favour him over Vaas. (Still love vaas tho).
I love the silent protagonist and i genuinely love them being a nameless mute wanderer because it makes him seem like doomguy in a way.
The prepper stashes were all fun and the side missions were epic. The only side activity i was not a fan of was clutch nixon but thats prob because im not much of a race person but still cool.
Weapons were all fun and inventive and swapping out companions made each playthrough feel like its own unique game again.
The safehouses were fucking gas and the bosses kidnapping you gave a level of connection that made things personal to make us want to hate the seed family more
My only criticism (which is kinda petty) would be to create a non-canon āgood endingā just to see that it all wasnāt for nothing in the end.
Theres so much more i loved that i could spend hours droning on about but i love this game to an autistic level and im so depressed weāre never gonna see Joseph seed again.
š¶š¼šµHe once was a peach picker and he toiled in the sunā¦š¶šµš¼.
Part of the reason I like it is the location. Living in Alberta, Canada this is the closest to my home that I'll ever see a video game. Except for the NHL games, but those don't count.
>Like, in what world would Joseph have been right?
He wasn't right, he was lucky. If you have enough cults, eventually one of them will be right about something. Just like the Simpsons with their nearly 800 episodes and a hundred things on each episode, they seem to predict the future.
Plus in FC5, the world was already on the brink of a doomsday. This is noticeable if you listen to the radio. This includes talking about tensions in the Middle East, Moscow getting bombed, the President being moved to a safe location, and military being deployed to the east coast.
This stuff didn't just happen overnight, it was building up. Nor did Joseph make an exact prediction. Joseph making these predictions would be like someone predicting that someone would do something crazy at Trumps trial. Someone set themselves on fire. The exact action wasn't predicted, but the general situation was, which we all knew would happen.
>I didn't like the gun selection
This is one of my favourite things. You pick up an assault rifle early on and you literally don't need any other gun to complete the game
Don't have to keep upgrading it stuff on a work bench, or keep buying new weapons. You only need one, that you find really easy
On top of that I think the Seeds are some of the best video game protagonists that have been written
And the world they exist in is top tier.
I like that the game isn't about collecting stuff, crafting stuff, talent trees or upgrade paths. The only thing that it's about is it's story
And it's absolutely spot on
I just had the most fun with it. Gunplay and melee were better than fc4 or other previous games, not to mention the shovel throwing, and the balance/enemy scaling was better than fc6.
Also many of the characters are just my neighbors and the humor was spot on.
Like other people, I love the setting and the villains. I grew up in a small fundamentalist religious congregation (*almost* but not quite a cult), so as a result I'm intimately familiar with the terminology and rhetoric used by Joseph and the cult.
That and the music fuckin' slaps. I tricked my mom into liking it because of the overt Christian overtones.
The world building, setting and amazing music created just for the game (that fits thematically per region) as well as also some great ānormalā radio music are some of the reasons.
For me though, the overall story and characters were the main things. The intro was one of the best intros to a game I had seen in a while and got me hooked. I knew each of the four main villainās goals, their unique methodology, music, their followers. You get to know each of them and the game builds up to their final showdown for all. You had unique interactions with all of them and great cut scenes. I found them all pretty captivating, well voice acted and compelling which got me invested in the overall story of the game. Compare that to far cry 6 for me, where half the time I had no idea who I was going after or why, no build up, no story telling, just āoh this persons bad go kill themā. You hardly interact with the main far cry 6 villain (despite all the marketing exclaiming that he was starring jn it). I was invested in taking down the peggies, in saving hope county and saving the sheriffs department. Plus overall gameplay was fun, great guns for hire (I loved peaches and boomer), fun missions, beautiful setting and playing with a friend is also fun (Especially those times when it seems like all the peggies jn the known universe start converging on you when you stop at the side of the road and shit goes down). The ending shocked me but never really bothered me - I get why some people didnāt like it when youāve put all that work in but I quite liked the darker twist ending.
Maybe itās because itās the first of the far cry games I played but this holds a special place for me.
He wasn't "right" in every aspect that the situation presented....if that makes sense. Deciding right and wrong is a primary theme I all far crys. There's more layers to it all. Very thought provoking which is why I like story.
The rest I think it has best gameplay. Best weapons. Environment is amazing. Music is dope. Outposts are fun. Love the enemies - fighting cultists is just amusing. Other than the forced abductions for the story, it just slaps in every way possible for me.
I play other games too but every time I finish them, I return to fc5 to walk around the mountains, take some pictures and throw shovel at things and people
For me, it's because it was the first Far Cry I played. I then played New Dawn and 6. I thought 5 was better than those.
I'd like to try 2 and 3 but I wonder if you can go back...? i.e. would the graphics seem clunky compared to 5 and 6?
Just went back and played 2,3,4,Primal, 5, and gave up a few hours into 6. It was my first time playing FC2. The older games are fine. FC2 had the most missing modern features but honestly? The game was better because of limited or missing features like fast travel. Stealth was horrible in FC2 but the gunplay and destructability were phenomenal. The voice acting in 2 was horrible as well but there were things about it I can't put my finger on that made it great.
I used to live in the mountains on the Montana/Wyoming border and it just feels like home I guess. Also, having been raised a Jehovahs witness I have a fascination with cults. (Like, the idea and ridiculousness of them)
Also, it was the first FC game I ever played all the way through so it will always have a special place in my heart š
Far Cry 4 is my absolutely favorite, but 5 comes close. I personally enjoyed the story and didn't think the protagonists were bad. I also thought the ending was as good as it could be imo. I do agree with you though, gun selection wasn't great. Soundtrack, graphics, and the setting is also one of the main reasons I absolutely love 5.
Iām 54 years old and fanatical about the series even 6 which thereās a lot of hate on for some reason. But I love open concept games from fallout, oblivion, red dead, etcā¦ Iāve played Far Cry 4 and 5 a couple of times through and will do the same with 6 after some time
Let the water wash away your sins.... šµš¶
But kidding aside, the cult songs are complete bangers for me. Also the setting, it's so beautiful. And there's always something intriguing about cults for me. I also love the way how I was shooktttt and frustrated at the same time on how I just spent hours trying to take JSeed down but he ended up being right. I guess I was expecting it but didn't expect it at the same time.
The setting/world is absolutely breathtaking. Other than that, regarding gameplay - yeah, I agree with you, game was a chore to get through even my one time that I played it.
Joseph was theorized to have heard pagan talking on the radio about the end of the world, which turned out to only be a few areas in the United States and Europe
Honestly, I just loved getting lost in the world. The random encounters are the best in the Far Cry series as well
I never played Far Cry for good stories, itās just great over the top random, chaotic fun
Plot, feel, the gun play is more real world than FC6 and especially FC:ND. I absolutely hate the ammo type system that has been introduced. Yes, before a FC6 fanboy chimes in, I know you can use AP and just take headshots. Doesnāt change that FC5 included ammo types and crafting without being tedious. I liked the humour, and I liked the characters. The ability to have effective and unique NPCs, human and animal to accompany you was also great. NDs character leveling system felt like it was right out of borderlands, and FC6 felt pretty empty and rushed.
Not my favourite but I enjoyed it a lot. The story was good and there is a lot of stuff to do. Also, characters,Far Cry 4 did well with Pagan Min and 5 did even better with Joseph and the seed family. Setting is also a big one not a lot of big games are set in that area.
The setting. And the overall feeling of the game. To me it feels like an extremely laid back survival game. I play a lot of Deadside/DayZ. So when Iām looking to play a little less seriousā¦ Farcry 5 is a great alternative.
The map is beautiful and feels like a genuine locations. Plenty of well made side routes and backwoods areas speaks to me as someone who grew up on this exact type of place. The focus on nature with a place with low population density makes the empty space feel meaningful as well.
The music is incredible, the outposts are all great, the antagonists are different. The gun selection is smaller, but I always pick a small handful of guns and stick with them through the entire game anyway, so it made zero difference to me. Ubisofts Arcade levels were also fantastic.
Itās the kind of game I can just wander and not get bored at all because thereās so much to see and explore. Multiplayer is amazing as well which just adds to it all.
Setting, vibes, music, and the story all pulled me in. The gun selection is noticeably trash for me thatās a small thing compared to the things I love about it.
Currently playing this, and it's my first Far Cry game, so it has that going for it lol
Honestly, the whole "going after a religious cult" appeals to me because of how many times these things have sprung up in real life and always done horrible, horrible things to the people in them while the law is tied up in knots of red tape.
No red tape here. Just a good ole house cleaning lol
So far, I think the game does a good job exploring the psychological aspect of what turns a person into a monster. But I'm not finished yet, so we'll see if that holds up.
Also, the dialogue is hilarious
No spoilers please lol
The setting is literally what my back yard looks like. The whole area looks like something out of fc5 so the relatable setting sold me immediately. I've played more of 5 than any of the other games combined.
Im not from the US but consumes a lot of US stuff. Never in my life Iāve dreamed of living state side until I played this game. Montana is such a god damn paradise.
Funny thing is, I donāt know too much about the actual people living there so who knows if they are welcoming to foreigners so me salivating about it might be ironic haha
I just love rustic setting man. Music is top notch too!
It was my first far cry experience so Iām pretty biased towards it as it set a really high bar.
The music absolutely makes this game what it is. Yes everything else was amazing, but they would be nothing without the soundtrack. Dan Roamer and Hammock knocked it out of the park. One of THE best soundtracks Iāve ever listened to. Every single track. Literally a no skip album when I listen to it.
I was also really invested in the story as well. It was beautifully told and I loved causing mayhem in rural Montana. Such a beautiful location. The characters were awesome too, I really loved the heralds and the father as villains. Some of the best Imo. Religious cults fascinate me
The setting, the music, characters, plot, gameplay.
Montana is just beautiful, the mountains, rivers, hills, woods. It just looks incredible. Not too big like FC4 or FC6, there is actually a lot of stuff in the map.
The music is just well made and fits the tone that the game is going for with the Cult.
Characters, the villains are all great and well written and have a meaningful impact on the story compared to FC6 where you canāt even remember the under bosses. Joseph, John, Jacob and Faith were all interesting characters with unique backgrounds and they all standout from one another. The rebels/police all are good characters not as well written as the villains.
The plot is interesting to me, the whole take on cults, religion, preppers/survivalist, hillbillies, law enforcement and the raise and fall of Josephās cult is just different from other games.
Gameplay and gunplay just feel good, not too much sliding and stabbing and sliding and stabbing like in FC6. The whole gunplay and weapon system are simple and easy. Game feels smooth and feels like Ubisoft knew how to make a game. Itās not crazy chaos like FC6 but itās not just slow paced.
Extra the side missions are fun and add to the story, cheeseburger is awesome but he got diabetes :(
The setting and the music make it really good.
I remember people really disliking 5 when it came out on the sub. I liked it the moment it came out, but it really feels like most people like these games once they picked up some shelf time, first they have to bitch and go on how its not as good as the previous games... Im glad were passed that
Itās the first one I enjoyed since 2. Iām jealous of how everyone else feels about 3, i didnāt enjoy the jump to a more arcadey game, I absolutely hated 4 and 6 with a burning passion.
But if Iām being honest I canāt entirely tell you why 5 is the first one I enjoyed in ages. The setting was dope and I enjoyed how it looked visually. The gameplay was very meh but at least I liked where I was and the goofy animal partners.
The setting, characters, story, sound track, vehicles, game design, gun selection, scenery, the fact that itās not set in some sci fi world or some tropical island or Europe or Asia for once.
currently a little over halfway in FCND, have only ever played FC5. the setting, the graphics, the music, the plot. i played FO4 religiously from like 2021-23, played Outer Worlds for a while too. FC5 just had everything i was looking for in a game and had a lot of the same qualities as the previous games iāve played
I feel like most people worship this game due to the fact that a lot of them probably grew up in that area of America. For me who lives in the UK which is obviously no were near America, I just couldnāt relate. I found it to be a bit mid and overrated but thatās just my opinion
Personally loved the guns compared to FC3/4 especially the AK. Music is perfectly in-sync with the atmosphere, villains (especially Joseph and Jacob) are totally engaging, and the story and ending were basically a test of the player to see if they would get sucked into a cult lol. Amazing!
i really enjoy the scenery and music (like everyone else has said), and i think that the story is phenomenal! plus, sharky is in it and heās hilarious.
I guess, everything, the soundtrack, gunplay, story, everything. Itās such a beautiful setting and from someone who lives in Idaho, the small towns and redneckville feels like home.
Itās a masterpiece, and by far the best in the franchise.
Setting, Music, the last genuinely realistic feeling Farcry imo, I like the fact I can make my own character. But I also love new Dawn. So to some my opinion is invalid lol
I've only played 3/4/5 , personally i liked 5 much more than any of the others ,the game was so immersive , landscapes everywhere, and the music made the game wholesome
I loved the story, the graphics, the guns and just everything about it.however my only gripe is anytime "only you plays", I get scared. For example, it's my cousin's favourite song and while I was asleep he started playing the song out loud. I woke up like a couple of seconds after and it scared the fuck out of me.
It was my first (and last, fuck six) Far Cry game. Played it on game pass in 2020 or something and itās definitely the setting. Thereās nearly no games set in the middle of nowhere USA.
It seems like everything you hated about it I liked about it. It was my first in the series. It felt a lot more familiar with a faceless, voiceless, genderless specified protagonist too because I'm more of an rpg player. Also it being set in rural montana made me feel at home because that's where my family is from.
Setting. Far Cry 2, 4 and 5 have the best ones for me. I don't like tropical islands. And companions were great. More vehicles than in previous parts, prepper stashes are a great addition. And the graphics are gorgeous. Basically for me 5 is a better 4, which was a better 3. Far Cry 6 on the other hand, middle region story is the worst in franchise, skills being tied to armor is a bad design choice. I played it in premiere so there was no loudouts, no ammo swirching. Animal companions are boring compared to 5 system. And the worst thing of all, you go around the map like a madman one person army. There's no feeling of you being a guerrilla fighter. Should be a squad, companions to give the feel.
Setting, music, villains, characters, theme, the narrative, the weapon handling and bullet drop, the melee weapons which are designed to kill god for some reason
Just a massive fan of the way it feels like the villains are speaking to the player. Mocking you for basically doing exactly what you *think* is the right thing. The villains are misguided, they donāt understand Joseph. But theyāre right in some regards. āYou did everything he said you would do. And you didnāt even know it.ā
The game is basically telling the player that they decided to not leave well enough alone, and that everything is happening because you decided to use force and violence. The cult wasnāt really going around killing everybody until the deputies showed up.
You really are a sinner. John says wrath at first, but in reality itās Pride. You are the āgood guy,ā youāre supposed to fight the bad guy, itās an action shooter of course youāre right. But the entire time you could be, and ultimately are, wrong. All you did was murder and blow up people, yeah itās fun, but the game is basically asking you to say āwhat if I was wrong the whole time? And I spent days killing and enacting insanely violent acts on people.ā The game even used conditioning on you. You have to run through a call of duty shooter gauntlet multiple times in Jacobās region, and eventually it becomes easy and you get better weapons but then it reveals he brainwashed you to kill your main ally in that region. The game basically constantly makes you question whether what youāre doing is right.
But then pushes back by showing the crimes of the cult. You feel a bit more secure when you see their crimes
And ultimately in the sequel itās shown that Joseph realizes how wrong he was going about it, but his message about the end and humanityās problems was ultimately true and he was right.
Plus the music fucking slaps
It took me a while to beat FC5 but it's my favorite. I love NG+ options in video games. The story was okay imo. But the 'Nam DLC is amazing and makes me want a full FC set there.
The ending was bad, the weapons could have been better and the completion meter for each territory fills up wayyyy to quickly but I loved the setting. In Montana. Love the cult takeover storyline and the score / soundtrack. Playing it over again right now. I like 6 as well but it's not as good as 5 to me.
During the beginning cut scene where you fly in the helicopter and see the statue of Joseph shook me to the core the first time I played. The soundtrack is wonderful middle American banjo music also the graphics and landscape are beautiful and the bosses were so fucked up and super cool to me.
I think the end it what makes it great because itās not what you suspect. Plus all of the members of the family are just really interesting and sad. I really need to play through it again.
That it isn't too far from reality. Shit could happen like that. That's what draws me in and keeps me. It's American, fucking crazy, and sadly more realistic than I'd like to think
I didnāt like it at first but itās become my favorite and the one I put the most time into, itās got my favorite soundtrack in any shooter ever, I think Joseph is the most fleshed out villain in the franchise, and is the most interesting to me personally, I think the other villains are amazing too with Jacob being especially good at how his storyline fits so perfectly into the gameplay, I love in the American countryside so seeing Montana be featured was something I hadnāt seen in a shooter before and I ended up loving it, I love how far they take the badass American stereotypes with characters like hurk and sharky, but keep it realistic, if there was a militant cult that started taking over towns out here people would fight back and go to war with their guns 100%. Itās easily the best looking far cry game and I love that they went out of their way to give us a lot of unique weapons, vehicles, and aircraftās, the companion system also adds a lot to ordinary encounters, I wish the game had an actual protagonist but honestly it comes down to which flavor of far cry you like the most, pirates in the Caribbean are not as cool to me as cult leader in Montana, you like what you like, and thatās fine.
I'm not a super fan, but I can understand why people like it so much. Me? There are just as many cons as pros. What I especially dislike is being a mute. Even in that, it's pretty well written. The ending is ridiculous, but that sets us up for ***New Dawn***, which many dislike, but I love. I love most equally, with the exception of 3 because 3 did not age well. It gets exceedingly boring once you get in with the Privateers. I digress.
No one, it seems, is ever truly happy, but Far Cry 5 was as close as it came to satisfying the itch.
I love the setting, soundtrack (especially When the Morning Light Shines Through and Now That This Old World is Ending), and general vibe. Hope County feels lived in. The cult feels like a realistic threat. I was the perfect age for the game to have a profound effect on my psyche. I have legendary memories of staying up late with my friends, hunting bears, grinding outposts, and just having a blast. I adore Montana because of it. I grew up going on summer vacations there and the game enhanced those for me. I'm incredibly interested in religion. Its power, both positive and negative. The game is a really fun demonstration of the danger of religious fanaticism. Joseph Seed singing Amazing Grace goes hard.
I just loved the concept and it was the most Ā«Ā realisticĀ Ā», in the sense cults are that crazy and I could definitely see this happen, especially in the middle of america. Also the characters were fun and interesting, contrary to like far cry 6 I just didnāt care and the game didnāt make me want to know more about the bad guys.
I'm somewhere between 5 and 3, but what i enjoyed at 5 is soundtrack, the game isn't trurely linear, great visuals, storyline fith the montana setting, and the world is more peacefull...it was different than the original formula, but that what made it special for me
It was the first Far Cry game I played, the music, the setting, the characters, the story, the gameplay, EVERYTHING about it stuck with me.
I still listen to it's OST regularely, the combat music and the ambient soundtrack... I can't explain how much this game means to me.
I replayed it about 9 times, each time doing things in a new order and experiencing Hope County in a better way.
Man.. and the ending.. shook me to my core when I first played it...
Tldr; Far Cry 5 means so much to me and its one of my favorite games ever.
Scenery, Setting, Story.
My only real issue with it is lack of gun diversity. Since this is USA, I would expect a lot more.
But for me it is very much so second best Far Cry in the series, right after 3
Graphics, climate, music, villains, walk away ending, story, Jacob, Boomer everything is just amazing, but you need to open your mind and focus on good things.
I finished this game 2 times before WITH FRIEND and I didn't listen to the story, because I wasn't too interested in it.
But when I started it again alone focusing on the story, I realised how good this game is.
The setting, and the companions. Small town America vs a crazy cult gave feeling that not everything fell on you to fix it.
Doomsday preppers going āI told you soā, animal companions mauling the ever loving crap out the enemy, and no frigging towers!
The setting, and the companions. Small town America vs a crazy cult gave feeling that not everything fell on you to fix it.

The biggest win was the music.
The songs have a valid place in the story, I can understand why the enemy NPC's play and hum those songs. And if those songs are taken out of game, then they seem purely religious songs, a church somewhere in rural America may play those songs at their gatherings without knowing their origin, that's how deeply throughout the songs are.
And songs aside, even the soundtrack was pure gem. There's nothing more I loved other than keeping the game aside, holstering the weapon and exploring some far off regions during peak afternoon with that beautiful soundtrack playing in the background. It felt weirdly therapeutic to just exist in that game.
Also, the music that is played while mission completion, outpost liberation, those genuinely have a positive sentiments in them and make us feel as if we've achieved something.
And after playing FC6, my respect has grown a lot for the FC5 setting too. It's like, I just loved Montana more than some carribbean island.
But come to think about it, FC6 just doesn't set up it's visuals for win, I think the first day scene we have in FC6 is on the beach, and when I was playing through it, I was like, What ?! This is it ?? It just didn't seem up to the mark, there was no soundtrack playing along, it just seemed normal. Now, coming to FC5, we play the prologue at night time, so most of the beauty of scenary is shrouded all throughout the play through and I distinctly remember how dutch's cabin opens in the morning and we enter the gorgeous world and the sweet soundtrack sets in...now that's how a game should set up their environment/scenery for a win.
At the end, I guess people are mad about FAR CRY 6, just because it was not better than FAR CRY 5 when it comes to engagement. The arsenal of guns in FC6 may have been better, but without good scenary, good music, good story, it just doesn't feel good to exist in the game and so we just rush and end the game and that bland ending cutscene adds salt to the injury and at the end we have a pissed off gamer.
I live close to the Idaho/Montana border. I often head into Hamilton and Missoula and at least a couple times a year head over to Great Falls or Billings. The scenery and setting was pretty believable. Many areas of the game, looked and felt very similar. Though it was all fictitious, it still felt like I was in Montana. There aren't any other games that would feature this kind of setting so close to home for people around here. There isn't a Fall Out Boise, or Dying Light Darby. Though I always thought a mountainous Zombie/survival game would be pretty cool with the seasonal changes, especially a winter... I digress, it is the setting for me.
The opening pulled me in. After the helicopter goes down and your running away, it felt kinda real. I was sneaking around trying to get myself together, all which allowed me to fall into head first. And hang out with Hurk if your having a bad day, he can cheer you up.
I watch a lot of true crime, and what struck me was how realistic it was. Like, it would take a LOT of errors on the part of the state and federal governments to let a cult grow so large and gain so much control, but if it were possible anywhere, it would be middle America. There ARE entire communities of libertarians who live 99% off grid, have bunkers for doomsday, have arsenals stashed on their properties, the whole nine yards. Theyāre often religious, and theyāre relatively easy to manipulate - many donāt participate in politics, but the ones who do also believed in January 6th lol.
Obviously the ending wasnāt all that realistic, but thereās a level of mystical fantasy in each game. Each games walks the line between realism and fantasy, sanity and insanity.
I also think itās very cool that in the end, the only way to get a āgoodā ending is to not play at all.
āSometimes, itās best to leave well enough alone.ā
To the guys who keep saying setting/landscape have yall ever played any far cry game outside of 5? Every one of them have good settings and beautiful landscapes. Thats what theyre known for. The only farcry game that fails at this is maybe the second half of farcry 3 (or farcry 1 Idk anything about it so I have no input) but otherwise I dont think farcry 5 is worthy of its "best" title. I feel like its the fallout 4 of the farcry universe.
Also they did a terrible job at actually making it look like Montana . The game doesnāt even feel like america if you donāt have npcs with southern accents and American flags .
Not a super fan but I can tell you what would have made the game better in my eyes:
A convincing villain
Joseph Seed had me actually laughing out loud, I couldnāt take him seriously at all
It's absolutely not a solid entry without the literally thousands of fixes the resistance mod provides lol. Vanilla FC5 is serious slop, the mods make it what was originally intended.
Okay. Just keep hating on far cry 5 then. The gameplay is really fun and chaotic. It is great how it is. But modding is for those who prefer the game a certain way
The things that you consider āfactsā are really just opinions and personal preference.
Also Iām not saying that itās wrong that you think your overall experience was better with mods. The problem is that itās unfair for you to downplay the enjoyment of playing FC5 without mods by suggesting that the only way to fully appreciate the game and its story is through their inclusion.
The gameplay is up there with four as the best in the franchise, all of the villains range from decent to fascinating, the environment is beautiful (except for a single crate of overly polygonal apples). Most of the side characters are *fine*, and those that aren't aren't around much, which is a massive step up from 4 and 6. Unvoiced protagonist is so much more immersive than playing someone who speaks; especially with how much psychological fuckery it gets up to. The psychological trippiness is also great; the combination of paranoia, the ending, the bliss, the game really getting in your head.. it makes the story so much better than without (and it was already fine, which would put it in top three lmao)
I think the only real cons I can give are the melee attack knockdown but that's everywhere in the series and some of the animals being a bit annoying. The dlcs aren't as amazing as others (mostly exactly the joseph for 6) but the dlc weapons are so good for open world fun, especially mars lasers, and the stories are all *fine*, especially movie director guy's malding. The new dawn ability to repeat outposts would also be nice but highwaymen are terminally uninterestng
The music, the relatability to Joseph Seed as a Christian myself, the story, in my opinion, I like it when the villains win sometimes, the good guys don't always win, I loved the story, I can see where you're coming from with the gun selection, but I didn't really mind, I get more appreciation from the game when I played the Joseph Seed Collapse DLC in FC6 and New Dawn.
The setting, and music
Only youuu
The only sibling i actually found cool ngl Like i wish he was the MAIN villain instead of hippie shirtless barista jesus
best videogame soundtrack I've listened to, maybe contested with twd or hotline miami
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q85ZUTWmNCc FFS it's so good
š¶ ***Clutch Nixon!***
Have that song on my actual playlist. Goes hard.
*āpsycho in heaven, angel in hell!ā*
Iām going to learn that song on guitar one day and record it. Itās too good to pass up.
Couldn't have said it better.
A ton of people love cities, and I love those folks because it leaves more rural area for me.Ā I didnāt grow up in Montana, but I did grow up mountainside in the sticks. It feels like home.
Not to mention that religious cults taking over in backwater America isnāt that far fetched of an idea
Yeah, I canāt imagine that the main villain being named Joseph S. was a coincidence with the number of LDS people over here.
an incredible amount of games are set in America I actually wish they would do it more somewhere else... however this is obviously not the case for Far Cry series and I absolutely loved the new setting even though it is in America, felt different
I agree. To clarify, when I say middle America I mean Montana the state. There's a ton of games based in New York, Chicago, and LA, yes. But much less outside those regions, specifically a more rural area like Montana.
I prefer America over yet another tropical island.Ā
Beautiful scenery, music , different villains than usual
The story is just so damn amazing, every single one of the villains are just perfect for me. And Joseph, no words for him
I canāt take Joseph seriously. It might be the lack of shirts and the Jared-Leto-Joker-tattoos.
First time i heard that one, Joseph is honestly the best villain in the series
Fr, Greg Bryk smashed it out the park.
All I know is I laughed out loud multiple times during his cutscenes and was pretty disappointed all around by the character. I donāt buy that anyone would follow him and Iām fairly confident that ALL of Montana would laugh him off as well in real life.
I think you underestimate how susceptible some people are to cults
Do you have an example of what kind of protagonist you would take more seriously?
In terms of Far Cry I find Ull and Batari pretty convincing
If you listen to the radio there are clues in the news broadcasts that NK was going to nuke the USA. Thatās how Joseph knew.

Loved finding all the prepper stashes.Ā Companions were good personalities and effective.Ā Iām not gonna downvote you, I just think you have horrible taste.
I agree with everything except weapon selection. Gunplay in fc 5 was my favorite, but I just wish they added a couple more guns to keep things interesting. They had alot of pistols and decent ar selection, but the lmg and smg options left me wanting a little.
I often roll with either the .45 Vector (I think itās called?) or the blunderbuss; Iām all about the rate of fire.Ā I liked how in ND they allowed you to upgrade the weapons you unlock.
In 5 you get to gun down religious zealots. Thats why.
Itās really neat and unique. In the other games we fought war lords and militaryās in mountains and islands as rich dudes or mercs. Now, we are playing as a cop in Montana fighting cultists. Plus, they have great music, story, map, quests, and villains
For me it's mostly the setting. I grew up in the country, so there is a familiarity to it.
I'm just gonna make a list of everything I liked, this is just subjective -PHENOMENAL sound track -engaging gunplay (granted does get annoying and spongy when dealing with heavy enemies. For PC players I highly recommend the better ballistics mod on Nexus. Super easy installation when combined with the resistance mod) I personally love the gun selection but I'm a sucker for cowboy guns so it's got what I want -excellent antagonists -player based pacing and a non linear story that allows for each playthrough to feel different -funny dialogue -responsive companions (can be dumb, but give accurate call outs for enemy fire and enemy archetypes) -absolutely stunning visuals with a wonderful world space -excellent sound design -enemies that aren't psychic when detecting you, they go to where they heard you. A huge pet peeve of mine in other games -excellent voice acting, especially by Greg Bryk (Joseph Seed) -Replayability value -arcade editor that adds a nigh endless amount of extra content -decent customization in terms of outfits -a bear named Cheeseburger (for legal purposes this a joke) I'm personally a big fan of Montana, I think the state is beautiful and I really like researching cults so that in its own has a huge appeal to me. Ubisoft did extensive research on cults, including hiring people who's entire career is finding and uprooting cults from towns and that adds to the realism. Ubisoft talked about how this game was supposed to help bring awareness to religious extremism theres a video of them interviewing the guy who helped with cults who said the goal was "you could make this any religion in any place and any time, and the story could still ring true" As for the ending it annoyed me too, a lot.
The setting, the plot and most importantly, the combat. Bullets drop from distance, enemies are tactical.
Literally everything (btw this gonna be a rant so its cool to disagree with me) The setting, the music, the weapons, the villains and heroās, the lore and how the game plays out. The safehouses were fucking gas and the bosses kidnapping you gave a level of connection that made things personal to make us want to hate the seed family more My only criticism (which is kinda petty) would be to create a non-canon āgood endingā just to see that it all wasnāt for nothing in the end. Theres so much more i loved that i could spend hours droning on about but i love this game to an autistic level and im so depressed weāre never gonna see Joseph seed again. š¶š¼šµHe once was a peach picker and he toiled in the sunā¦š¶šµš¼.
If you didnāt like the game āsometimes the best thing to do is walk away.ā
i really liked the characters and the gameplay
The games art style and landscapes are the best part but I wouldnāt say it the best in the series
>I didn't like the gun selection This is one of my favourite things. You pick up an assault rifle early on and you literally don't need any other gun to complete the game Don't have to keep upgrading it stuff on a work bench, or keep buying new weapons. You only need one, that you find really easy On top of that I think the Seeds are some of the best video game protagonists that have been written And the world they exist in is top tier. I like that the game isn't about collecting stuff, crafting stuff, talent trees or upgrade paths. The only thing that it's about is it's story And it's absolutely spot on
Plus, Cheeseburger, Hurk Jr., and Sharky.
The setting, music and vibe
I just had the most fun with it. Gunplay and melee were better than fc4 or other previous games, not to mention the shovel throwing, and the balance/enemy scaling was better than fc6. Also many of the characters are just my neighbors and the humor was spot on.
The music, people, the vibe, the setting, the side villains actually being interesting. But I hate the mute protag I wonāt lie
Beautiful scenery, unique setting, amazing gameplay, characters and music
Setting, plot, and Boomer.
Like other people, I love the setting and the villains. I grew up in a small fundamentalist religious congregation (*almost* but not quite a cult), so as a result I'm intimately familiar with the terminology and rhetoric used by Joseph and the cult. That and the music fuckin' slaps. I tricked my mom into liking it because of the overt Christian overtones.
john seed
Gameplay, setting, side activities, characters, soundtrack, story, crazy ending. DLC was hit or miss though.
I play other games too but every time I finish them, I return to fc5 to walk around the mountains, take some pictures and throw shovel at things and people
Setting, music, progress system, combat, map design, plot was amazing, villain was genuinely scary
Setting, the amazing soundtrack, and the game is overall just beautiful. I love that itās the only fc with a direct sequel too, ND is underrated
Gunplay is great, music is great, characters are great, itās just all great.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback!
I used to live in the mountains on the Montana/Wyoming border and it just feels like home I guess. Also, having been raised a Jehovahs witness I have a fascination with cults. (Like, the idea and ridiculousness of them) Also, it was the first FC game I ever played all the way through so it will always have a special place in my heart š
Omg we have the same backstory
No way
Far Cry 4 is my absolutely favorite, but 5 comes close. I personally enjoyed the story and didn't think the protagonists were bad. I also thought the ending was as good as it could be imo. I do agree with you though, gun selection wasn't great. Soundtrack, graphics, and the setting is also one of the main reasons I absolutely love 5.
Theme, music, place, and story(partially)
Killing Peggies
Boomer. Few can compare to boomer. Oh and the slingshotā¦. It feels unique when u are shooting arrows with it
everything
The music, the characters, the missions, the story, and the weapons
Iām 54 years old and fanatical about the series even 6 which thereās a lot of hate on for some reason. But I love open concept games from fallout, oblivion, red dead, etcā¦ Iāve played Far Cry 4 and 5 a couple of times through and will do the same with 6 after some time
Let the water wash away your sins.... šµš¶ But kidding aside, the cult songs are complete bangers for me.
Between old and new Farcry, it has the best of both worlds
Honestly, I just loved getting lost in the world. The random encounters are the best in the Far Cry series as well I never played Far Cry for good stories, itās just great over the top random, chaotic fun
The different areas run by different protagonists. And the fucked up plot twist at the end lmaoĀ
I like the sniping in it
The way the story is so gravitating to the playerā¦
I love this game!! I have a hell of a time just playing it with my friends.
Honestly it's mostly how creative you can get with the combat. Start combining the drugs with melee and bombs.
I disliked how in 6, the levels didnāt seem to do anything.Ā
Not my favourite but I enjoyed it a lot. The story was good and there is a lot of stuff to do. Also, characters,Far Cry 4 did well with Pagan Min and 5 did even better with Joseph and the seed family. Setting is also a big one not a lot of big games are set in that area.
The setting, story, characters and the soundtrack. Literally my favorite game of all time
Getting a 100% was very fun. Lots of things to do, everything feels so alive
The world and the gameplay more than the story, I like to grab a couple of the companions and go fishing or hunting after beating the game
Best weapon customization and combat. Also just like the cult storyline
Its a real place Its in the US It is a cult I like the guns for hire
Setting, vibes, music, and the story all pulled me in. The gun selection is noticeably trash for me thatās a small thing compared to the things I love about it.
It's my only Far Cry game.
Currently playing this, and it's my first Far Cry game, so it has that going for it lol Honestly, the whole "going after a religious cult" appeals to me because of how many times these things have sprung up in real life and always done horrible, horrible things to the people in them while the law is tied up in knots of red tape. No red tape here. Just a good ole house cleaning lol So far, I think the game does a good job exploring the psychological aspect of what turns a person into a monster. But I'm not finished yet, so we'll see if that holds up. Also, the dialogue is hilarious No spoilers please lol
The setting is literally what my back yard looks like. The whole area looks like something out of fc5 so the relatable setting sold me immediately. I've played more of 5 than any of the other games combined.
The setting I did like the gun selection the music and especially the fishing
Im not from the US but consumes a lot of US stuff. Never in my life Iāve dreamed of living state side until I played this game. Montana is such a god damn paradise. Funny thing is, I donāt know too much about the actual people living there so who knows if they are welcoming to foreigners so me salivating about it might be ironic haha I just love rustic setting man. Music is top notch too!
The setting above all else. I like the vibe of the game that takes place in the states. I also really liked the AR-C weapon.
The setting, characters, story, sound track, vehicles, game design, gun selection, scenery, the fact that itās not set in some sci fi world or some tropical island or Europe or Asia for once.
is it better to play with others or alone? ( i have yet to play it i only got 10 or so minutes in it)
currently a little over halfway in FCND, have only ever played FC5. the setting, the graphics, the music, the plot. i played FO4 religiously from like 2021-23, played Outer Worlds for a while too. FC5 just had everything i was looking for in a game and had a lot of the same qualities as the previous games iāve played
What do you think of FCND?
I'd guess, MURICAAA FUCK YEAH.
Play new dawn now
It was my first (and last, fuck six) Far Cry game.
Setting, music, villains, characters, theme, the narrative, the weapon handling and bullet drop, the melee weapons which are designed to kill god for some reason Just a massive fan of the way it feels like the villains are speaking to the player. Mocking you for basically doing exactly what you *think* is the right thing. The villains are misguided, they donāt understand Joseph. But theyāre right in some regards. āYou did everything he said you would do. And you didnāt even know it.ā The game is basically telling the player that they decided to not leave well enough alone, and that everything is happening because you decided to use force and violence. You feel a bit more secure when you see their crimes And ultimately in the sequel itās shown that Joseph realizes how wrong he was going about it, but his message about the end and humanityās problems was ultimately true and he was right. Plus the music fucking slaps
It took me a while to beat FC5 but it's my favorite. I love NG+ options in video games. The story was okay imo. But the 'Nam DLC is amazing and makes me want a full FC set there.
Music and how they had balls to do a whole game based on religious shit.
I canāt say enough about FC 5. Everything about that is mesmerizing. It just feels Iām living in the Hope County.
I love it because it was the first far cry game I ever played!
For me personally, Joseph Seed carried the entire game with his performance just like Javier Bardem carried the movie " No Country for Old Men"
I didnāt like it at first but itās become my favorite and the one I put the most time into, itās got my favorite soundtrack in any shooter ever, I think Joseph is the most fleshed out villain in the franchise, and is the most interesting to me personally, I think the other villains are amazing too with Jacob being especially good at how his storyline fits so perfectly into the gameplay, I love in the American countryside so seeing Montana be featured was something I hadnāt seen in a shooter before and I ended up loving it, I love how far they take the badass American stereotypes with characters like hurk and sharky, but keep it realistic, if there was a militant cult that started taking over towns out here people would fight back and go to war with their guns 100%.
The animals, especially the cougar
Also it was amazing playing it while high af
Im replaying it & playing the sequel next.
IVE BEEN SUMMONED
The Seed family are awesome, especially Father. The setting Doomsday cults fascinate me The 10/10 soundtrack Fun gameplay
The atmosphere, the setting (not many games are set in rural America. Besides like Farming and trucking simulators) the and amazing soundtrack.
I'm somewhere between 5 and 3, but what i enjoyed at 5 is soundtrack, the game isn't trurely linear, great visuals, storyline fith the montana setting, and the world is more peacefull...it was different than the original formula, but that what made it special for me
The soundtrack was amazing, especially within Faithās region. Very ethereal.
Arcade.
First one I played, it stuck with me.
Guns were meh, protagonists were meh; but we play far cry for the plot out here
Total immersion and the closeness we have with the characters
The setting, and the companions. Small town America vs a crazy cult gave feeling that not everything fell on you to fix it. Doomsday preppers going āI told you soā, animal companions mauling the ever loving crap out the enemy, and no frigging towers!
The setting, and the companions. Small town America vs a crazy cult gave feeling that not everything fell on you to fix it. Doomsday preppers going āI told you soā, animal companions mauling the ever loving crap out the enemy, and no frigging towers!
I love the fucked up gospel music. Exactly the sort of shit youād hear a Psycho Cult singing
The setting, the guns, fun ways to make money
The things I learned about America. This game is based on real events right?
The villains and music
I just like cults
For me itās the gameplay, mechanics, customization, and setting.
Not a super fan but I can tell you what would have made the game better in my eyes: A convincing villain Joseph Seed had me actually laughing out loud, I couldnāt take him seriously at all
Faith seed a baddie
You need to play it on PC with mods or you're playing literally an entirely different game. The console/unmodded version is seriously, seriously bad.
Flaming ass hot take dude š¤Ø
No lmao not even a lukewarm take, FC5 is absolutely awful without mods
Not really. Itās a solid entry. If you hate the gameplay that doesnāt mean everyone does. So yes, itās a hot take
It's absolutely not a solid entry without the literally thousands of fixes the resistance mod provides lol. Vanilla FC5 is serious slop, the mods make it what was originally intended.
Okay, well thatās your opinion. Many people obviously like it just the way it is. You donāt have to project you opinion onto everyone else
Except that's not an opinion it's fact lol
Make a post about it then. And see what other people say š¤·āāļø
I don't need to ask if the sky is Blue to know it's blue. Lmfao
They're a bunch of casuals who prefer a sandbox over actual game mechanics
The gameplay is up there with four as the best in the franchise, all of the villains range from decent to fascinating, the environment is beautiful (except for a single crate of overly polygonal apples). Most of the side characters are *fine*, and those that aren't aren't around much, which is a massive step up from 4 and 6. Unvoiced protagonist is so much more immersive than playing someone who speaks; especially with how much psychological fuckery it gets up to. The psychological trippiness is also great; the combination of paranoia, the ending, the bliss, the game really getting in your head.. it makes the story so much better than without (and it was already fine, which would put it in top three lmao) I think the only real cons I can give are the melee attack knockdown but that's everywhere in the series and some of the animals being a bit annoying.
Because it's the only one I have played.
Montana, during the trump era where the trump folks acted like peggies in real life and were supporting civil war. Felt all too real
