Florals are fine if they are done well (Zendaya), but so many of the floral looks tonight are so BORING and safe, like a pretty floral dress someone might wear to their cousin’s wedding.
And then there's Kylie Jenner, who straight-up just wore a wedding dress. I swear I've seen Kleinfeld put girls in basically that on Say Yes to the Dress. Wat.

I think that movie quote ruined floral, as if they can't be new and exciting. I loved the fashions at this year's gala and I felt like more attendees were on board with dressing to the theme this year than many other years previously.
Similarly, Olivier Rousteing wore a sand shirt with his own face on it, which was a hilariously campy send up of the theme, obviously he also designed Tyla’s dress.
Sabrina Harrison (not familiar with her but she's in the article) wore a dress covered in clock faces. My first thought was "inspired by Dali" with the main melting clock face but I think it's still a well-done look
Ben Simmons carried a clock briefcase and also had a white rose on his overcoat. I think his look actually hit more of the thematic points compared to a lot of the others', especially the men's.

I agree. It looked awful. Like she had a wardrobe malfunction on the way in and she had to grab a crew members cardigan to cover up. It looked old and tatty and ruined the whole look of the dress. I hate how she kept flashing her right boob at everyone as well.

It probably was her choice, in some capacity, to pick that specific look even if it was part of the designer's last fashion show. That quote is simply justification for why that's the outfit chosen for the "Garden of Time" theme.
Regardless of who had the idea for the final look, I actually like the look more after learning the rationale for choosing it. I don't like the cardigan at face value, but with the context it makes sense just like any other Met Gala look that is elevated with context, like (inspired-by) archival designs

I think it was both. Did you see the red carpet event she did with her mom recently? She wasn’t all binded up like she was at the Met show, but she had the same drugged look and actions as she did at the Met. It seems like she’s on some pills or some kind of drug.

If you look at the collection it’s from, the sweater makes more sense. I think without the hair and makeup from the runway show, the look didn’t really land. It needed that over the top theatrical styling.

Outside of Harris, my favs of the night were kind of few and far between, too many uninspired florals. I loved Eddie and Hannah, great couples look, loved Da’Vine (because Zac created something that made she look so amazing), and I liked Gwendolyn Christie’s look, but I was mostly uninspired. I think across the board every Prada and Dior look was a flop, with some of the worst looks in the Prada camp, like Brie Larsen’s weird skirt cage and Troye Sivan’s bland bow back top. Loewe and Margiela seemed to have the best nights overall.
At first glance I really did think Harris was Florence Welsh from Florence + The Machine. I've never heard of him before today, but his look was androgynous and amazing.

Apparently Rita Ora's beads are like two thousand years old? She said they fit the "time" element of the nights theme. Idk how true, but in theory she at least tried! The other three I agree were misses (for me!)

I actually loved Doja Cat in light of the exhibit's theme. Her dress will change over the course of the evening as it dries out, literally tracking the passage of time. It fits so well with the idea that fashion is ephemeral: stitches weaken, fabric decays, and a wet t-shirt dries.
Someone also pointed out that she looks like the kind of statue you would see in an old garden and while that wasn’t her intention, I kind of love it in that light.

* I actually really liked a lot of these. It seems like most people played it pretty safe in their interpretation of the theme (Garden of Time...so many florals) but we still have quite a few "wow" looks!
* I think if your outfit isn't on theme, you should get sent home. I'm sorry. So many people--including big name stars--want to be there. If you're just going to slip on a column dress or a black suit and call it a day, you don't deserve the Met Gala. The whole point is to be over the top and ridiculous!
I just read a thread on another subreddit addressing misconceptions surrounding the Met Gala and that poster said that the “theme” refers to the theme of the exhibit that is on display at the Gala, the dress code is separate and attendees are not necessarily required to dress to the exhibit theme! It is more fun, obviously, though if they do.

I actually quite like this year’s overall, and I’m pleasantly surprised at the guest list! But one beef I have with Vogue’s coverage is how slow they are to update the designers of every look on the website.
Go ahead and tear me a new one: I’m not into Zendaya’s. The makeup and hair is killer but the dress itself and the grapes etc just look like someone popped over to Michaels for some cheap fabric and went nuts in the faux plant aisle.

I'm actually a little surprised so many people are responding positively in general. This Met Gala feels like a mess. I think this is the first time I really believe the men are dressed better than the females, aside from like 3 women.
If anything this years met gala makes me think that women’s fashion is at a bit of a standstill while men’s fashion is getting better and more experimental. Eddie redmayne, wisdom Kaye, Barry Keoghans, Alton mason, and the more I see Colman Domingo’s outfit the more I like it. About time, men deserve stunner outfits too, women have gotten all the fun fashion for so long.
I mean, I think that is bread right every time I think about how every designer seems to be leaning into the bland AF “quiet luxury” thing, especially Gucci, who I don’t even think bothered with a single look at the Met this year. Like go on Sabato, give us nothing has been my reaction to both his collections, but you are seeing the same buyer driven, sales first philosophy from every brand right now.
Tulle will always look cheap to me so I'm not in disagreement about that, though I don't think the dress kills the look. It's still an overall win for me.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I hated Lana’s look. The new McQueen dress inspired by a far superior, much better crafted McQueen 2007 look…. It just missed the mark for me. The original is so much more elevated and better constructed, this homage version looks like a cheap copy.
i liked lana del rey's look, but after seeing the original dress it was inspired by i'm just so disappointed. the original has an incredible structure and texture; lana's dress just looks like a wish.com version in comparison.

I disagree, I think the hawthorn branches and rose accessory add a lot to the look, not to mention how well it fits both the setting and Lana’s persona. 🤷♀️ It’s an excellent look for Lana Del Rey at the Met Gala and she looked like a woodland queen.

I think it was both. Did you see the red carpet event she did with her mom recently? She wasn’t all binded up like she was at the Met show, but she had the same drugged look and actions as she did at the Met. It seems like she’s on some pills or some kind of drug.

If you look at the collection it’s from, the sweater makes more sense. I think without the hair and makeup from the runway show, the look didn’t really land. It needed that over the top theatrical styling.

I loved Eddie and Hannah, great couples look, loved Da’Vine (because Zac created something that made she look so amazing), and I liked Gwendolyn Christie’s look, but I was mostly uninspired. I think across the board every Prada and Dior look was a flop, with some of the worst looks in the Prada camp, like Brie Larsen’s weird skirt cage and Troye Sivan’s bland bow back top. Loewe and Margiela seemed to have the best nights overall.
At first glance I really did think Harris was Florence Welsh from Florence + The Machine. I've never heard of him before today, but his look was androgynous and amazing.
His red carpet work is so dreamy, very Romantic. I like his work for his eponymous line way more than his stuff for Nina Ricci.

I actually loved Doja Cat in light of the exhibit's theme. Her dress will change over the course of the evening as it dries out, literally tracking the passage of time. It fits so well with the idea that fashion is ephemeral: stitches weaken, fabric decays, and a wet t-shirt dries.
Someone also pointed out that she looks like the kind of statue you would see in an old garden and while that wasn’t her intention, I kind of love it in that light.

I just read a thread on another subreddit addressing misconceptions surrounding the Met Gala and that poster said that the “theme” refers to the theme of the exhibit that is on display at the Gala, the dress code is separate and attendees are not necessarily required to dress to the exhibit theme! It is more fun, obviously, though if they do.

I actually quite like this year’s overall, and I’m pleasantly surprised at the guest list! But one beef I have with Vogue’s coverage is how slow they are to update the designers of every look on the website.
Go ahead and tear me a new one: I’m not into Zendaya’s. The makeup and hair is killer but the dress itself and the grapes etc just look like someone popped over to Michaels for some cheap fabric and went nuts in the faux plant aisle.
Zendaya had two looks, and I like the black one for the theme a lot more than the blue one.
I'm with you. I liked the concept but it looked a little cheap. I'm actually a little surprised so many people are responding positively in general. This Met Gala feels like a mess. I think this is the first time I really believe the men are dressed better than the females, aside from like 3 women.
If anything this years met gala makes me think that women’s fashion is at a bit of a standstill while men’s fashion is getting better and more experimental. Eddie redmayne, wisdom Kaye, Barry Keoghans, Alton mason, and the more I see Colman Domingo’s outfit the more I like it. About time, men deserve stunner outfits too, women have gotten all the fun fashion for so long.

Tulle will always look cheap to me so I'm not in disagreement about that, though I don't think the dress kills the look. It's still an overall win for me. I think Zendaya's other dress, the vintage givenchy, was a more interesting dress but I'm glad she did the other look too

I loved her look!!! Loved her throughout the award season, and she killed it here too! I thought it was a great fairy tale vibe, while still true to Gap/Zac Posen and I loved her hair. The Vogue podcast has an interview with Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Zac Posen right after the Met Gala where they discuss the look and the event. They’re both so lovely
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I hated Lana’s look. The new McQueen dress inspired by a far superior, much better crafted McQueen 2007 look…. It just missed the mark for me. The original is so much more elevated and better constructed, this homage version looks like a cheap copy.

I kinda think Dan Levy was the best of the bunch….
