It would’ve been hugely controversial, but given [the ending of “The Garden of Time”](https://lithub.com/read-the-1962-short-story-that-inspired-this-years-met-gala-theme/), I was really hoping that somebody would come dressed as the invading mob of peasants. Or even, like, a tiny pitchfork pin.

bbmarvelluv

There were protestors outside of the Gala 😭

irreverentgirl

Or dead flowers?

GiveThemNada

Florals? For "The Garden of Time" themed Met Gala? Groundbreaking.

NotAZuluWarrior

Florals are fine if they are done well (Zendaya), but so many of the floral looks tonight are so BORING and safe, like a pretty floral dress someone might wear to their cousin’s wedding.

always_unplugged

And then there's Kylie Jenner, who straight-up just wore a wedding dress. I swear I've seen Kleinfeld put girls in basically that on Say Yes to the Dress. Wat.

zeynabhereee

Oh Lord. I’ve seen better dresses than that in high school prom. For all their money, the Kardashians have no sense of high fashion.

Mariske

Tbf Kendall looked STUNNING

allumeusend

I have yet to see her not just whiff the assignment every year. Remember when she wore a baseball hat?

SunriseHolly

Apparently she was supposed to look like a garden statue

bubblegumdavid

She looked like the back of the dress was designed to have her let out a fart Someone on twitter said this with a photo of the back and I have not thought about anything else

Fit_Consequence7443

When will they stop inviting the Kardashian clan … other than Kendall they have no fashion sense

truckthecat

I’ve never seen a better example of a train placement that looks like, as Michael Kors would say, “she is pooping fabric”

fluffycat16

Second time she's worn a wedding dress to MET Gala 🤣

deadbeatsummers

Blame D&G for that one

wildeflowers

when I saw the story that was referenced, I really GOT Zendaya's first look, and I think she nailed it. Quite a few did. The rest seem like they didn't bother to even read a synopsis of the story.

shawpaholic

Literally went through my head seeing Anna Wintour’s outfit 😂

bubblegumdavid

Hers was at least a reference to an archival piece though, which is kind of part of the exhibits whole shtick. Tbh the whole thing, including Anna wearing something inspired by a fragile archive piece instead of the piece itself despite her probably having access to it if she asked, seems all a bit pointedly inspired by Kim for the Marilyn dress thing.

rocketscientology

they literally all went “garden = flowers 🤓” and gave it no further thought

ilikecatsandfood

I think that movie quote ruined floral, as if they can't be new and exciting.  I loved the fashions at this year's gala and I felt like more attendees were on board with dressing to the theme this year than many other years previously.

winesomm

"Florals for spring? Groundbreaking" is the quote that went through my head haha

Ophelia_Y2K

lol, im just happy that most seemed to vaguely have some attempt at fitting the theme for once 😆

eekamuse

Did anyone use Time for a theme? Or did they all go for flowers.

Hollyzilla

Tyla was dressed literally as an hourglass, hers was amazing IMO

GiveThemNada

And she was in a "sand" dress, like the sands of time!

pinona

Tyla had an hourglass handbag

allumeusend

Similarly, Olivier Rousteing wore a sand shirt with his own face on it, which was a hilariously campy send up of the theme, obviously he also designed Tyla’s dress.

laserdiscgirl

Sabrina Harrison (not familiar with her but she's in the article) wore a dress covered in clock faces. My first thought was "inspired by Dali" with the main melting clock face but I think it's still a well-done look Ben Simmons carried a clock briefcase and also had a white rose on his overcoat. I think his look actually hit more of the thematic points compared to a lot of the others', especially the men's.

swordsfishes

You know what, I appreciate [Giovanna Engelbert's](https://assets.vogue.com/photos/66397bd86556b73be370e6ce/master/w_800%2Cc_limit/2151800422) decision to go leafy instead of flowery.

allumeusend

Same for Maria Sharapova going for a very lush almost lettuce green: https://preview.redd.it/tzw8njxzrxyc1.jpeg?width=634&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec0541969a3ff59cf18283e383f0dd94032e2b57

partypopper

I'm getting vibes of the Serpent in the Garden which is perfect

Schmidaho

I wanted more symbolism of decay, so many mosses and mushrooms are so pretty

QueenOfPurple

Stunning dress.

Infinity__Squared

Oh no:( why'd they put my girl in a chipotle burrito fit https://preview.redd.it/c4cfl58b8xyc1.png?width=520&format=png&auto=webp&s=650f59e5e9df9e16525c859a23acbd3a4983102a

okay_but_what

I’m sorry, is she wearing her Apple Watch?? Get that step count, girl!

you_absolute_walnut

The jiffy pop vibes are so strong 😭

AngrySnowglober

Hershey’s Kiss 😭

allumeusend

Glad I am not the only person who saw burrito when they saw this!

nobledoor

It’s giving emergency foil blanket

Ophelia_Y2K

Jimmy, quick get the space blanket!

AskMrScience

[Serena Williams's dress](https://www.usmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Feature-Serena-Williams-Delivers-a-Fashion-Grand-Slam-at-2024-Met-Gala.jpg) was also from Balenciaga and had the same damn "space blanket" problem, just in gold.

JAlkina

yea i was thinking more tin foil

[deleted]

[удалено]

clarifythepulse

I do think she looks fab in anything though. And I kind of appreciate the sci-fi vibes, maybe a shoutout to her Star Trek work

emg0

I’m confused by Kim Kardashian’s grey cardigan which she seemingly had to clutch onto the whole night. Was that part of the look or did she have a wardrobe malfunction? I’m also gonna need someone to explain to me where her organs went.

Rug-bae

I think the corset was so tight it created rolls at the top which she had to cover

Elegant_Pen_1941

I agree. It looked awful. Like she had a wardrobe malfunction on the way in and she had to grab a crew members cardigan to cover up. It looked old and tatty and ruined the whole look of the dress. I hate how she kept flashing her right boob at everyone as well. Maybe the whole standing the test of time was symbolised by a gorgeous dress with tiny waist when she’s young, and then growing older with the grey granny cardigan 😂

StrawberryKiss2559

As terrible as it looked, it was a part of the designer’s last fashion show. Kardashian looked so drugged up, though.

always_unplugged

I saw a quote where she said it was "inspired by her wildest night in a garden," grabbing her boyfriend's cardigan and going off with messed-up sex hair. The fact that it was just part of his the last fashion show makes much more sense. So weird that she's trying to justify it like it was her idea.

laserdiscgirl

It probably was her choice, in some capacity, to pick that specific look even if it was part of the designer's last fashion show. That quote is simply justification for why that's the outfit chosen for the "Garden of Time" theme. Regardless of who had the idea for the final look, I actually like the look more after learning the rationale for choosing it. I don't like the cardigan at face value, but with the context it makes sense just like any other Met Gala look that is elevated with context, like (inspired-by) archival designs

secretsafe1

To me it looked like so was really struggling to both move & breathe with such a tight corset. I am huffing and puffing in my spanx, I can’t even imagine.

StrawberryKiss2559

I think it was both. Did you see the red carpet event she did with her mom recently? She wasn’t all binded up like she was at the Met show, but she had the same drugged look and actions as she did at the Met. It seems like she’s on some pills or some kind of drug.

paisleygrl89

Ooohh, wardrobe malfunction makes sense... I was wondering the same thing. She was weirdly clutching that Old Navy cardigan like it held her life as she gazed around in some drug addled tizzy.

karigan_g

she’s wearing galliano isn’t she? he does this thing with the cardigan where they have to [clutch the cardigan closed](https://pin.it/17w2BcFZh)

ilikecatsandfood

Anyone else surprised that she showed up? I feel like the whole theme of historical dress conservation was because she thoughtlessly ruined Marilyn's at a previous gala.

paper_wavements

And so she's not gonna show up out of what, shame? The Kardashians seem to have little to none of that.

ilikecatsandfood

Fair enough.

Hollyzilla

If you look at the collection it’s from, the sweater makes more sense. I think without the hair and makeup from the runway show, the look didn’t really land. It needed that over the top theatrical styling.

aHoopz

Lana Del Rey survived Yellowjackets

allumeusend

Lana Del Rey and McQueen did too close a read of Snow Glass Apples.

FeatherMom

Omg I was trying to place this image…she’s totally the Antler Queen

adultgouda

She should have worn the antlers. Twigs were just not sufficient!

plavun

https://preview.redd.it/ncaw5cvlmyyc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a6d231d595e66b1355d73d251c9096d226a1aca I loved the look of Pamela Anderson. Like an exotic bird

slvtberries

She was so ethereal! She moved so beautifully up the carpet. Most people look stiff and terrified but she really looked like a princess who was being welcomed home, she smiled and waved gracefully and genuinely looked like she was enjoying the night

allumeusend

I know this is female fashion advice but I have to say it, Harris Reed came and slew everyone else: https://preview.redd.it/iedce6g41xyc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=977336aa135fccd919763c91bb3061b6f3cd1b04 Outside of Harris, my favs of the night were kind of few and far between, too many uninspired florals. I loved Eddie and Hannah, great couples look, loved Da’Vine (because Zac created something that made she look so amazing), and I liked Gwendolyn Christie’s look, but I was mostly uninspired. I think across the board every Prada and Dior look was a flop, with some of the worst looks in the Prada camp, like Brie Larsen’s weird skirt cage and Troye Sivan’s bland bow back top. Loewe and Margiela seemed to have the best nights overall.

ama_da_sama

At first glance I really did think Harris was Florence Welsh from Florence + The Machine. I've never heard of him before today, but his look was androgynous and amazing.

allumeusend

His red carpet work is so dreamy, very Romantic. I like his work for his eponymous line way more than his stuff for Nina Ricci.

karigan_g

I have to agree. have been so enjoying it

Elegant_Pen_1941

Same!

nobledoor

Brie Larsen’s skirt reminds me of the mesh tents you put over food when you’re outside to prevents flies

always_unplugged

I mean, that's one way to interpret the garden theme... 😂

allumeusend

It reminded me of my pop up hamper.

comprarhunt

Harris Reed was my absolute favorite too!!

truckthecat

lol I thought this was Saoirse Ronan all night until I read this comment

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

This is BY FAR my favorite look for the night.

bubblegumdavid

YES Harris, Loewe, Margiela, and Law all made some solid choices but Harris and Loewe’s looks in particular blew the others out of the water early

allumeusend

Almost every Loewe look was a hit, male and female, and Anderson shows up in a way to not distract from his own garments.

QueenOfPurple

These bell bottoms are fantastic. If I had a million dollars, I’d buy them!

Queenofcomplaints

I missed Rihanna, my favorite this year was Tyla with the hourglass

sunnyseshh

hard agree with your list but elle fanning, anok yai, and ivy getty also made best dressed imo. all three looked amazing

ama_da_sama

Anok's and Elle's pieces just melted into their skin.

Aikea_Guinea83

Elle fannings dress is lovely!!! 🕊

Lurkerathomer

Doja Cat's one makes more sense if you've read the short story the theme is based on, I feel. Not my favorite look of the night, but not the worst, either, since the homage is appropriate

eekamuse

At least *someone* read the story. And didn't just see garden and say Flowers!

violetmemphisblue

Apparently Rita Ora's beads are like two thousand years old? She said they fit the "time" element of the nights theme. Idk how true, but in theory she at least tried! The other three I agree were misses (for me!)

applewagon

How you just gonna sit [commando](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/rita-ora-and-taika-waititi-at-the-carlyle-hotel-before-the-news-photo-1715034327.jpg?resize=980:*) on 2,000 year old beads all night! Edit: Upon further inspection, I concede that she is in fact wearing a sheer body suit. But I still don’t like it.

saiph

I actually loved Doja Cat in light of the exhibit's theme. Her dress will change over the course of the evening as it dries out, literally tracking the passage of time. It fits so well with the idea that fashion is ephemeral: stitches weaken, fabric decays, and a wet t-shirt dries.

lilianegypt

Someone also pointed out that she looks like the kind of statue you would see in an old garden and while that wasn’t her intention, I kind of love it in that light.

Mariske

I did too! And not everyone could pull that off either

always_unplugged

I liked [this variation](https://assets.vogue.com/photos/66395824dc2ea268cfcbb6ed/master/w_2580%2Cc_limit/2151783601) on the standard black tux—dunno if I like the bedazzled floral crocs (???), but the elongated tails are such a fun take while being approachable for pretty much any basic-ass man. (No shade on John O'Connor, I have no idea who he is 😂)

mrskraftpunk

Lmao. I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t know who he is. The extra dramatic coattails and weird shoes somehow work well together. I normally despise crocs but he made the choice look fun instead of tasteless

DeeDeeZee

He played a young Prince Charles on The Crown for which he won an Emmy & Golden Globe. He’s in the new Zendaya movie, Challengers.

chickencake88

Wow. Ora & Waititi look bad.

ho_hey_

Love Tyla and Taylor, Mindy Kaling and a more subtle look, but Eliza Gonzalez Rivera's was so pretty

otterpop21

[Nicki Minaj](https://assets.vogue.com/photos/66397a7a8732c78b0216ffd9/master/w_800%2Cc_limit/2151800118) Always makes me laugh. I just imagine her saying “WAT, the theme is flowers!” I can’t figure out the exact reason why, but [Chris Hensworth outfit makes me hate him.](https://assets.vogue.com/photos/66394790090a0a5ccce77393/master/w_800%2Cc_limit/2151774763) Edit: Honorable mentions- [Johnathan Bailey](https://assets.vogue.com/photos/66397b4087e80dacf0549c6a/master/w_800%2Cc_limit/2151800398) is one of the only tuxes I see with a flower.

cannotfoolowls

> I can’t figure out the exact reason why, but Chris Hensworth outfit makes me hate him. as a co-chair he should've dressed to the theme more

BoringTrouble11

Yea this does nothing for any part of the theme - I’m still confused as to why he was a co chair because he’s not a fashion daddy at all.

allumeusend

I think Anna just likes him personally. Because it ain’t for the fashions.

BoringTrouble11

It certainly is not!!

allumeusend

I just can’t with Hemsworth’s wrinkly trousers. I get angry just looking at them. And he was one of the chairs!

gusinboots

Kind of shocked at how terrible Rita and twigs’ shoes are, it’s like they did a day out at Payless together?

fruitandcheeseexpert

Rebecca Hall was everything

eekamuse

Coleman outfit was inspired by Chadwick Boseman and Andre Leon Talley.

chipcrazy

I loved Alia Bhatt’s Sabyasachi saree! So dreamy.

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

I’m shocked to see only 1 Robert Wun look on the carpet Bummed none of those dresses from his spring/summer collection are here https://preview.redd.it/gtz3yb0ll0zc1.jpeg?width=975&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd79ea5dca65c6abbac4f1898e65e62c10dad56e

Mindy Kaling rocked up to the even looking like the God Emperor of Dune.

SitaBird

I love this aspect!!!

anne_k96

Zendaya goes without saying MONA PATEL 😭😭😭 so stunning and the butterflies moving???? Breathtaking Tyla! Such a unique take on the time theme, loved Anok Yai is always a winner, and this year was no different! I’m living in the delusion that she lounged all day while the Swarovski team hand placed every single rhinestone directly onto her body and someone fed her grapes

AngrySnowglober

Shocked at the lack of Mona Patel in this thread

laserdiscgirl

She isn't in the linked article so I'm not surprised if people (like me) are only going off of Vogue's mass list of "everyone" that doesn't include everyone Troye Sivan is also missing, and I'm presuming there are quite a few others who were left out of the article

withasplash

Mona’s look was by far one of the best. So beautifully and thoughtfully constructed

pittypat_kittykat

Oh good, so I wasn’t having a mini-stroke. The butterfly movement was so subtle I couldn’t decide if I was imagining it or not.

anne_k96

Hahaha the first video I saw totally threw me! Worry not, your eyes and brain are in working condition 😂

bubblegumdavid

I was on discord with friends when Mona first went out, thought I was on mute, and whispered “oh what the fuck, is that moving, oh damnnnn” to myself. My friends, playing a survival video game and forgetting that I was not, were temporarily terrified. Such a gorgeous look, absolutely so impressed with it

Over_Outcome_5683

What’s up with the weird “ecstasy faces” all of the women are making?

mimosaandmagnolia

It tends to flatten out the natural creases in their faces, and apparently having facial expressions makes you look old according to whatever misogynist decided that

violetmemphisblue

* Hannah Bagshawe and Eddie Redmayne are a great couples outfit! Love Dan Levy and Elle Fanning too. * I actually really liked a lot of these. It seems like most people played it pretty safe in their interpretation of the theme (Garden of Time...so many florals) but we still have quite a few "wow" looks! * I think if your outfit isn't on theme, you should get sent home. I'm sorry. So many people--including big name stars--want to be there. If you're just going to slip on a column dress or a black suit and call it a day, you don't deserve the Met Gala. The whole point is to be over the top and ridiculous!

pbtribadisms

I just read a thread on another subreddit addressing misconceptions surrounding the Met Gala and that poster said that the “theme” refers to the theme of the exhibit that is on display at the Gala, the dress code is separate and attendees are not necessarily required to dress to the exhibit theme! It is more fun, obviously, though if they do.

swordsfishes

I can't understand why anyone would WANT to show up in boring standard white tie.  It's the fucking Met Gala, people. Take the excuse to get *weird* with it.

bbmarvelluv

Because the MET is just a networking party for them

paper_wavements

Yes—weird & entirely ostentatious, please. Nothing that would fly at the Oscars.

ScaredToJinxIt

I mean yeah but in this case the dress code was “garden of time” and a black tux barely seems to fit

allumeusend

I mean, one of the co-chairs couldn’t even bother with that and came in a white suit didn’t even looked properly pressed.

ScaredToJinxIt

Hey now, his suit was more of a sand/beige color I thought. (But, yes, I was also very disappointed he barely even attempted anything)

bmobitch

i’m obsessed w elle fanning

truckthecat

I realize that being too literal about a “garden” would be off, but I’m shocked at how many people went for whites/creams/neutrals. I know the story was about crystal flowers but idk, the whole evening just felt kinda washed out in a disappointing way. Anyone else feel that?

always_unplugged

I'm 100% with you—if you get the chance to go to an event where the expectation is that you can be as over-the-top and creative as possible, why WOULDN'T you??

the_bananafish

And it’s like, most of y’all are on the list to be eaten so at least give us the circus part of the deal until the time comes??

Stoa1984

I appreciate the few men who wore something other than a standard looking suit, like Lewis Hamilton.

plastacinegirl

Quannah Chasinghorse’s look is so stunning

Spook-er

H&M stepping up their game.

AnActualSeagull

Why the fuck do so many guys continue to wear boring as fuck black tuxedos to the Met Gala 😭 have some fun for the love of God

kateykatey

I miss Blake lively

yippikiyayay

Ed Sheeran consistently looking Hobbit-like

chiono_graphis

Zendaya and Law can do no wrong--she looks straight from a Galliano runway. Love the 1920s inspired makeup. Too many celebs are guilty of just wearing on-trend classic and safe hair/makeup/jewelry with even the most avant garde dresses, completely ruining the vibe of the dress.

Negative_Worker_2473

Am I the only one who didnt like Arianas Dress? Its pretty and all but i feel like she played it safe

QueenOfPurple

Blake Lively - *sobs* Nicole Kidman - I thought we were boycotting Balenciaga? Gwendoline Christie - The birds nest hair was a *choice* Zendaya - 10/10 no notes

gunnapackofsammiches

I kind of love Gwendoline Christie's look tho? It's a commitment to the bit more ppl need.

peonypanties

Gwendoline really said “give me the Lady Campanula Tottington” https://preview.redd.it/hk57y6r644zc1.jpeg?width=360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b84a586c701f7690bc8ae0230936a1f75b26ba7

allumeusend

💀

BirdxInternet

I actually quite like this year’s overall, and I’m pleasantly surprised at the guest list! But one beef I have with Vogue’s coverage is how slow they are to update the designers of every look on the website.

parakeeten

Go ahead and tear me a new one: I’m not into Zendaya’s. The makeup and hair is killer but the dress itself and the grapes etc just look like someone popped over to Michaels for some cheap fabric and went nuts in the faux plant aisle.

wildeflowers

Zendaya had two looks, and I like the black one for the theme a lot more than the blue one.

hunnyflash

I'm with you. I liked the concept but it looked a little cheap. I'm actually a little surprised so many people are responding positively in general. This Met Gala feels like a mess. I think this is the first time I really believe the men are dressed better than the females, aside from like 3 women.

holymolamola

If anything this years met gala makes me think that women’s fashion is at a bit of a standstill while men’s fashion is getting better and more experimental. Eddie redmayne, wisdom Kaye, Barry Keoghans, Alton mason, and the more I see Colman Domingo’s outfit the more I like it. About time, men deserve stunner outfits too, women have gotten all the fun fashion for so long.

allumeusend

I mean, I think that is bread right every time I think about how every designer seems to be leaning into the bland AF “quiet luxury” thing, especially Gucci, who I don’t even think bothered with a single look at the Met this year. Like go on Sabato, give us nothing has been my reaction to both his collections, but you are seeing the same buyer driven, sales first philosophy from every brand right now.

LongConsideration662

True

laserdiscgirl

Tulle will always look cheap to me so I'm not in disagreement about that, though I don't think the dress kills the look. It's still an overall win for me. I think Zendaya's other dress, the vintage givenchy, was a more interesting dress but I'm glad she did the other look too

Spook-er

I need someone to talk about Da’Vine Joy Randolph because I genuinely enjoyed that and I honestly find it a brilliant take on the theme.

BirdxInternet

I loved her look!!! Loved her throughout the award season, and she killed it here too! I thought it was a great fairy tale vibe, while still true to Gap/Zac Posen and I loved her hair. The Vogue podcast has an interview with Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Zac Posen right after the Met Gala where they discuss the look and the event. They’re both so lovely

akw329

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I hated Lana’s look. The new McQueen dress inspired by a far superior, much better crafted McQueen 2007 look…. It just missed the mark for me. The original is so much more elevated and better constructed, this homage version looks like a cheap copy.

adeliepingu

i liked lana del rey's look, but after seeing the original dress it was inspired by i'm just so disappointed. the original has an incredible structure and texture; lana's dress just looks like a wish.com version in comparison.

r9440

What was the original inspiration?

adeliepingu

[here's the original mcqueen piece](https://blog.metmuseum.org/alexandermcqueen/dress-widows-of-culloden/). the second catwalk image i think shows it best.

mimosaandmagnolia

It looks like a costume

Definitely, it looks like student work inspired by the original McQueen dress

BirdxInternet

My thoughts exactly! The twigs look so haphazardly placed and the veil, just tulle thrown on top of her

swmccoy

Agreed! I loved the archival McQueen for Givenchy on Kendall, though.

FayeQueen

Man, I was hoping for some Hunger Games level Flora designs.

Short_Function4704

Honestly not as Disappointing as previous years and Some of the men,Including Co-Chair Bad bunny ATE

MastodonFormal5274

I feel like I'm fundamentally missing something about the Met Gala -- Zendaya is on this list twice with two completely different looks. Is it a two-evening event?

emg0

She changed and made two entrances. Perhaps that’s a perk of being a host?

kkidd391

Lily James's dress reminded me of the roach dress from the original Hairspray movie. I can't unsee it. (I also think Ricki Lake wore it better).

thetruth_2021

Is it just me or did no one look happy at the Met yesterday? Everyone had an aura of misery

mundanelifestyle

was Demi Lovato giving anyone else Poot vibes?

Zealousbird051

I absolutely loved Lana Del Rey at the Met Gala 2024! But hey, I'm totally biased because I'm a huge fan of her music anyway ❤️ https://preview.redd.it/4uvp1cvkr0zc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40f2de9a98dce49159762e612506ef7243e89a08

givemeacoff33

Anyone have any details on the small black sunglasses bad bunny wore?

always_unplugged

Naomi Campbell's dress looks like the Adrianna Papell my mom wore for my brother's wedding 🙊

Negative_Worker_2473

I was gonna say it looks like a prom dress

scrletw1tch

Elle Fanning!!!!

_mariguana_

I love Lana Del Rey, but her dress reminds me of a very mid Drag Race design challenge dress :(

askinnyvanillalatte

Was this the first time ever Anna Wintour didn’t wear Chanel?!

OneiricOcelots

She’s worn other brands before (e.g.: Dior in the early 2000’s) but it’s been nothing to write home about

gleegz

My biggest disappointment was with Ayo! She’s usually got suuuch style but her look was so safe and boring!

unrulYk

Overall, this was a disappointing night. I expect more from the Met Gala than a bunch of conventionally attractive people wearing conventionally attractive clothes.

EikoCherry

1. I rather liked Brie Larson’s Garden of Time on Gallifrey cage dress 2. Chloe… can *Anthropologie* sue?

savvysearch

All you need to know is that whoever’s dress is able to cover the most steps of the staircase is declared the winner of fashion.

literallylatted

Is it just me who hates how Zendaya looks? and LOVE Alia's outfit!!!!!

DDChristi

It should be easy to come up with a dupe of the Balenciaga bag that[Michael Shannon](https://time.com/6975358/michael-shannon-met-gala-potato-chip-bag/) carried without forking over $1,800. lol

applewagon

Fun fact: I went as a Balenciaga model for Halloween a few years ago and I used this bag as a prop. Got it for a steal, only $4.

Sudden_Wombat

I hated everything balenciaga… not just for moral reasons but it all looked utterly trash as well.

MutationIsMagic

Review with a side of creative writing exercise...... Jack Harlow has the look of someone realizing they didn't get the memo for the costume party. # John O'Connor's the guy at the bar you think is normal. Til you start noticing the inconsistencies, and then his goat horns start growing..... Elle Fanning's got it down. Both minimalist, and truly legit fantasy character at the same time. Massive props to Doja Cat for doing what looks like a rusalka/L Llorona. Mythology research for the win. I want to read the Adut Akech and LaQuan Smith comic book. Anok Yai can be the main villain/secret love triangle third. # Brooklyn Peltz looks like the guy who sells you snortable fairy dust that drives you mad. But you just can't stop..... Michael Shannon looking like a mortal who just stumbled into the fairy court. The only acceptable plain tuxedo tonight. Stay clear of the seemingly bland Jerry Seinfeld. Wise little girls knows the worst wolves wear [their fur](https://www.thethings.com/the-truth-about-that-time-jerry-seinfeld-dated-a-17yearold/) on the inside..... # Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco look too friendly. Dangerously so. I'm pretty sure local mortals should avoid their after party.....

forvanityssake

Pleasantly surprised this year! Lana Del Rey won the night for sure 🥀

FullofContradictions

I felt like the headdress was giving "sloppy mosquito net". If it had draped differently, maybe I wouldn't feel that way, idk.

forvanityssake

Wow, I thought it was so ethereally beautiful. The color alone was amazing on her, and I loved how it worked with the hawthorn branches. She looked like a literal goddess in motion. Just breathtaking Edit to add: you guys seriously think this wasn’t a gorgeous look?? https://preview.redd.it/q4w4ou7dvzyc1.jpeg?width=1164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c91e00e7526f0f2871aaab86ee94ba13cc59038e

karigan_g

lee’s original piece this was inspired by is just so much better. it’s breathtaking. this is…not quite so inspiring

forvanityssake

I disagree, I think the hawthorn branches and rose accessory add a lot to the look, not to mention how well it fits both the setting and Lana’s persona. 🤷‍♀️ It’s an excellent look for Lana Del Rey at the Met Gala and she looked like a woodland queen. The original is gorgeous too, of course. It doesn’t have to be a competition

fizzie511

Nicki Minaj?!

South_Dragonfruit120

Surprisingly, Anna Wintour slayed lol https://preview.redd.it/t34xwbj1lxyc1.jpeg?width=760&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a23c1319dbba385304ba36eab041ccb4f0c9c6d2

I kinda think Dan Levy was the best of the bunch….
