They are also not the only army to exist in the world, most armies had skirmishers. I was thinking more along the random peasents with slings type skirmishers not the javalin trowing roman skirmishers.
You might as well wear no armour at that point. If you want higher mobility, lighter armour that still gives full protection is best such as chain mail with padding (still can be a bit heavy) or even leather padding
realistically light armour would be a helmet with just padding and no mail and a shield, if you are going medium weight then brigandine armor is better. leather is expensive and padding mostly does a better job.
Innit, who'd have thought that wearing little to no clothing would be inefficient on a battlefield where there's people with swords, spears and bows. Shocker 😱😱😱😱😱
I'll wear crop top armor and a skirt if I got drafted as a foot soldier because if I'm gonna get killed with no choice I'm gonna do it while looking cute at least.
I’m with you there, plate armour and a long sword/claymore any day of the week
//edit: idk how to spell the big Scottish sword thingy’s actual name so y’all can pick if it’s spelt “claymore” or “big Scottish sword thingy”
There’s actually a story from the Scandinavians where one clan chief took control of an island and was a tyrant. Another chief somewhere else decided to send soldiers over that were crossdressing and acting like women for the tyrannical chief to try and sleep with, once he was off guard they drew their swords and killed the evil chieftain
Oh to be killed by a possey of femboy warriors
We'd be probably crucified, stoned or tortured until death becouse of our "non holy devilish" lifestyles before even being taken into some army. Also depends on where you were Born. RN iam talking obout christian england or France. But if you were a pagan norseman you would be probably much safer. There are evidences obout male skeletons buried in traditional female clothes with feminnine things beside them. Also in one of the sagas even a god Thor dressed up in a female wedding dress to get his hammer back. So I believe they were much more open to this. As a norseman I would love to be an archer becouse i love bows and crossbows 🩷
we are talking about medieval/histortical fantasy, If it is real life then I was mostly referring to any perriod in before the fall of Constantinople from the bronze age to 1453 ad. about the norse pagans no they were not that open about, in fact if someone accuses you of being a bottom in norse culture you are allowed the kill that man since being a gay bottom was seen as a affront to masculinity and the norse were very concerned about their manliness realistically you would be r\*ped and thrown in a ditch at any period so we are strictly in the realms of fantasy.
I see. There are alot of holes in my knowledge. I know obout them being heavily focused on manliness and honor but I never knew things like this could happen. Thanks for the explanation
now if you wanted to be a femboy in the past your best bet would be an iranian priest(Emani) or be a roman s\*x sl\*ve or you could be the lover of the roman emperor hadrian who made people worship his dead femboy boyfriend Antinous as the god of medicine.
So romans or greeks were more open to sexuality? I've heard obout this but I dont want to make the same mistake I did with norse pagans and think something that isnt True...

well not really roman sexuality was that the person of lower status would always be the bottom, for example it would be scandalous for a woman to top a man since men were seen as superior to women and rome was patriarchal or for a sl\*ve to top a free man but it would be ok for a free man to top a sl\*ve. for example there was a huge scandal about julius caesar being the sub in the relationship since the emperor is principes maximus as in highest most divine citizen so he can only top but since it was julius caesar nobody could do anything about it.
there's also Radu, Vlad the impaler's brother that seduced Mehmed (That ONE doujinshi taught me a lot about history lmao)
so yep, that's why femboys are actually leader material and not just a bottom fr
So... Hear me out.
Korea (Silla) had this.
The Hwarang (Flowering Youths) were an elite military & academic regiment, the members of which the Chinese scholars — for some reason — took great care to mention how beautiful they all were.
Hi amateur historian here to give some input.
Let's break it down by each stage of the medieval era.
Disclaimer: archery in general is a no go, archers were some of the strongest and largest men in the medieval era. Go shoot a proper English longbow sometime it's a hell of an upper body workout. Point being though medieval armies chose fairly masculine men to shoot bows.
Early middle ages: during this time most armies were still trying to copy the success of the Roman legions and as such made usage of heavy infantry supported by light cavalry and archers. In this age if you were a femboy you'd most likely be a light footman or skirmisher. These roles are well suited for those with lighter builds who likely have good cardio.
Middle ages: by this time nations has developed their own tactics and strategies as well as evolved those that came before. Plate armor starts to slowly become an idea, heavy cavalry becomes the norm across Europe and dedicated archer regiments are being made and trained. Men at arms of this period would have been pikemen, heavy infantry, light levies (conscripted peasants), heavy cav, archers, and many engineers/sappers. In this time period a femboy would likely find themselves being utilized as scouts or couriers. Crossbowmen is another one since it removes the previous issues with archery that being the need to be a large muscular man and now you just need a crank.
Late middle ages: the time of the classic Knight is here full plate armor is in production, militaries are becoming more and more organized. Ironically this is the time of flamboyancy not as much as later ages but it's there. Many knights would wear flashy colors, frilly clothing, some accounts talk about higher nobility specifically men wearing cosmetics like makeup or even dying their hair. You may not be so out of place here as you think though as for what warrior at this time it'd be easier to be part of nobility than a common warrior/soldier so that will be my final case.
Honorable mention the Renaissance: go look up men's fashion from this era and come back to me shit was wild and high key a femboy landsknecht would go unbelievably hard.
yeah many people mentioned bows which I know requires a lot of strength I would suggest crossbows instead since you don't need as much explosive strength for it.
late medieval knights were mostly for show they would usually lose in battles since muskets started to become popular.
what about cataphracts since most of their force is due to the horse and all you need is to stay inside your heavy armor and point the spear at the enemy while not falling off your horse though I might be wrong.
Cataphractii and other heavy cavalry might be a good match though it can get pretty brutal too and thus those using such units probably preferred them to be stronger just so that they can keep up the fight once the charge makes contact. Unlike light cavalry heavy cav has hang time they can afford it this makes them vulnerable to being thrown off the horse so it's not too long of a time period before you retreat and charge again. Light cavalry might be the best fit used mainly for scouting and would benefit from those with smaller builds.

Special Forces equivalent, you know, for storming within a castle or other building to take out high priority targets. Behind enemy lines stuff. Well armored, but still incredibly mobile, and probably wears a chain mail skirt already.
I think some were knights and archers, and the rest were probably like spies and messengers.
There were probably a few alchemists who specialised in poisons.
Espionage assassins, how would the enemies ever expect the women they were given as a peace offering turned out to just be a bunch of gay dudes with knives
I'd say guards of high ranking officials. If you think about it, because a lot of these positions would be up to favouritism, someone who looks nice and is persuasive would be favoured, and thus could definitely get those positions
Legit warriors... how many times history showed LGBT characters that were lovers?
Femininity is a part of history, that Christianity tried to erase but failed, there are a lot of Femininity aspect in several greek and roman sculptures showing delicate traits in men.
Probably some type of messenger or scout, very maybe a skirmisher
bro have you seen roman skirmisher they were like the most manliest part of the army.
They are also not the only army to exist in the world, most armies had skirmishers. I was thinking more along the random peasents with slings type skirmishers not the javalin trowing roman skirmishers.
Hussites had those for example. Just a bunch of farmers and craftsmen fighting the crusaders. Proud Czech femboy here :3
Czechia mentioned
A claric or healer
DEAD
This was also the first thing I thought of
Haha Yeah we would be the worst warriors. Dont want to break a nail 😬
Throw all those fucking skin-exposing product. Bring me the heavy steel suit and a great sword. LET IT RIP!
but bikini armor provides higher mobility
You might as well wear no armour at that point. If you want higher mobility, lighter armour that still gives full protection is best such as chain mail with padding (still can be a bit heavy) or even leather padding
realistically light armour would be a helmet with just padding and no mail and a shield, if you are going medium weight then brigandine armor is better. leather is expensive and padding mostly does a better job.
Did you read about RPG armor logic before?
Padding's cool. Bikini armour is cooler. I want the bikini arnour. for feerce battlin
I’m not saying bikini armour isn’t cool. I’m saying it’s impractical for an actual battle and provides little protection
damn that's a shock
Innit, who'd have thought that wearing little to no clothing would be inefficient on a battlefield where there's people with swords, spears and bows. Shocker 😱😱😱😱😱
I'll wear crop top armor and a skirt if I got drafted as a foot soldier because if I'm gonna get killed with no choice I'm gonna do it while looking cute at least.

there is a story where thor dressed as a woman and killed the king of giants.
That one was a funny story as well, the story leading up to it was even funnier
I would be a strategist frfr
Aka monarch/other high royalty
Now you make me sound like I’m full of myself 😣
now now there is nothing wrong with being a monarch
I suppose I’m a monarch then (I enjoy strategy and like to think I’m decent at it)
Same but I doubt I could rise the hierarchy to be a strategist
Well I’m a devious little guy so I’d just Machiavelli my way to the top >///<

Damn.... history is weird... so many rules and ethics...Thank you for these informations
Crossbowmen...and no, I'm definitely not just saying that because I adore the Ballistarii in Atilla: Total War
crossbows actually are one of the few weapons that require little strength so this is probably the most realistic unit.
A less serious answer: Sea men
ending the bronze age with this one.

King (or queen) look at Napoleon, bro lead the whole entire Europe
or elagabalus, he owned the roman empire, he was allegedly a femboy like actually.
there's also Radu, Vlad the impaler's brother that seduced Mehmed (That ONE doujinshi taught me a lot about history lmao) so yep, that's why femboys are actually leader material and not just a bottom fr
tbh elagabalus was probably the worst emperor of rome his actions single-handedly led to the crisis of the third century.
at least he slayed doing it ✨
I noticed a bit late, could you send me the doujinshi. It is for research purpose I assure you
Shounen Dracula by Ikezaki Misa unironically I learned the history of Wallachia and Ottoman through that LMAO
may the lord have mercy on us. dear god this is some hardcore stuff.
