I think it's cause Tyler is so anti-capitalist, though it was closer to anarchism than communism. But I guess that wouldn't sound as funny.

Not at all, and people who try to make fight club into certain political view are cringe. Fight club is not about communism, or anti-capitalism at all. Remember, Tyler is shown in the beginning of the film to be an entrepreneur selling soap and working multiple jobs. Which is the most capitalistic thing ever, considering he is working for the "self". People thinks its socialist/communist in the end cause Tyler blows up the credit card banks to bring people into financial equilibrium. **However, he does this because Tyler is anti-consumerist, an essentialist, a minimalist. He doesn't waste anything. Remember that scene he was making soap?** Well he makes soaps, and uses the shavings to make the nitroglycerin. He also emphasizes his world view after the car crash scene. The issue with Tyler Durden is that he is willing to force a whole society to change to his point of view, instead of letting them decide for themselves. Its like a father that knows the best for his kids kind of scenario.

Communism and Anarchism aren't that different other than their research, theory and approach. In my opinion Fight Club is not about politics, It's a philosophical outlook. A cynicist one. I just find it odd how even right wingers who cry about "Masculinity" like Fight Club. It's a revolt against authority and standards set by society.
