Agree!!! The best mussels/tahong I had is in New Zealand. Super juicy, way bigger in size and taste is 💯. Philippine mussels don’t even come close to NZ Mussels.
I've cooked at Food and Wine Festivals in the U.S. for 4 consecutive years. 1st as a volunteer and the other 3 as part of a group that highlights our food, They import seafood from the best of the best. Truckloabs and a huge shipping boat parked on the shores of Pebble beach. None of which came from the Philippines.
I've seen some from Taiwan, Japan,, New Zealand, etc.
Having Filipino pride is good, pero claims like this just doesn't do it.
I've scoured the Philippines nung andyan ako and my search for a great lobster didn't quite pan out. We have very little fish variety that's restaurant quality. Kokonti din ang species ng clams.
I have a restaurant there and it was my job to procure such items/ingredients. I have contacted hundreds of places and its not that its low quality, but its not the best quality. I searched Cebu, Palawan, Davao and all of the vendors sa Cubao, local fisheries sa Rizal, Laguna... etc... Its there but out of 1 to 10, 10 as the highest quality, it was at a mid 5 to 6.
I wonder if diwal (angel wing clams) is not up there because of the quality itself or because of its very limited quantity. it can only be fished at certain times of the year and at very limited quantities at that. those who have tried it (both local and foreign tourists) swear that it's the best clam they've ever tasted.
Probably mid-high end, pero kung rare sya or uncommon, mas mahirap I classify. So lets say exotic. I’ve had it as well, but Asari clams are slightly better and with more applications.
I actually collected shells of angel wing clams to make seafood broth for ramen. I got around 15 kilos. Hirap lang its not sustainable to make consistently.
More like overfishing
Just compare the sizes of fish imported from vietnam compared sa nabibili sa mga talipapa sa pinas e halatang dina talagang maliliit
Most likely and this would be why we don’t produce as much. Which is sad.
Pero i had octopus and shrimp sa cebu and super fresh. Which I loved. Also danggit is still superb. Lots of umami.
I also would give praise sa maya maya. Its a great fish for lots of applications.
I stayed in Roxas CIty (known as the seafood capital of the Philippines) for quite some time and i remember locals there telling me na the best produce are usually exported or napapdala na sa manila.
Kaya wala nakakarating sa US
You can also love your own without claiming superiority.
OP is claiming buong mundo, which is axiomatically wrong. Its true that taste is subjective, but to actually claim that its the best, its still to be proven. So the best for OP. As for the rest of the world, its not.
I’ve been serving Filipino food at Food and Wine Festival. Its one of the most prestigious food festivals in the world. Tickets cost upwards of $300 per event and I was part of a more expensive one, the “dinner”.
We’re showcasing Filipino food to top critics and food enthusiasts and you thought kinakahiya ko Filipino food? Where? Lets admit that we don’t actually have the best and go from there. Hindi yung mindset na oo sabi neto the best na so wala kang karapatan mag comment. Kung ganun, wala ng space to improve.
Food and wine festival is a collective opioid of the best in the industry in the whole world. i would agree with their palate versus a normal joe, but I wouldn’t go as far and say an hindi masarap ang seafood natin, its ok and OP is still wrong.
>dahil lang nagluto ka na sa iban bansa eh magaling ka na at gagamitin mong pamantayan na ang panlasa mo. Anong mali sa Sinabi ni OP eh opinion nyan.
And also his/her opinion. You can't say someone is wrong for having an opinion while saying there is nothing wrong for having an opinion
>Ang problema sa ating mga pinoy ay kinakahiya natin ipagmalaki ang atin at iangat ang sariling atin. Mas gugustuhn natin na gamiting pamantasan ang mga standards ng banyaga
Now your just changing the topic, your reading a comment with a predetermined mindset anything bad comment about the Philippines is a Philippines hate
Lagi ko makikita sa airport .I even bought one fishnet masarap sya. Also Yun mud crabs natin ine export everyday ilang flights sa airport pa china lagi Meron nyan
My favorite whenever I go to The Boiling Crab and similar places: Manila clams (aka halaan). I’m not really a fan of mussels. They look gross and I find some parts of it gross, too.
Not sure if they ar the same. From what i heard doon la g daw yun. May kamukha kasi siyang shells pero iba lasa eh. Main difference sa shell nila is cagaycay sheels are smooth yung kamukha nya you can feel or see rhe ridges or lines
Cagaycay from where I came from is some kind of a sea cricket? mole cricket? something like that.
Maybe halaan, halamis (small but taste better).
Not the best tho
I’ve travelled naman na pero for me we have best shellfish. The 4 sa taas are just my top of mind. Better than abalone etc although we have abalone here too. Diwal is really tasty and the cagaycay soup is really good. Btw when i say shellfish i am referring to mollusk family as i dont eat crustaceans haha
I like our talaba. Lahat masarap. 😆
My brother and I once finished half a sack of talaba dahil solid din ung sawsawan na ginawa ng Kuya ko. Calamansi, toyo, maraming sili.
Halaan is good, imo.
This is a bold claim and incorrect.
Especially our oysters are definitely NOT the best. Not even close lol

that is true. I've read somewhere that it's in danger of extinction due to overharvesting, so definitely not sustainable at all.

Agreed, our mussels aren't even as tasty as the fat, black imported ones, na partida di pa fresh.
New Zealand mussels. Here’s a kicker mas masarap yung maliit PEI (prince edward island) mussels.
Saang! https://preview.redd.it/jcexgn8ass9d1.jpeg?width=399&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4633d9026bfc029da019375cfc0788121f96e65

Yummy food haha
Lagi ko makikita sa airport .I even bought one fishnet masarap sya. Also Yun mud crabs natin ine export everyday ilang flights sa airport pa china lagi Meron nyan
I would say this to mangoes but not for shellfish. Have you tried shellfish from other countries, OP?
Idk what it’s called in the Metro but here in Tacloban we have what we call Sarad and I love it soooo muchhh
My favorite whenever I go to The Boiling Crab and similar places: Manila clams (aka halaan). I’m not really a fan of mussels. They look gross and I find some parts of it gross, too.
The Belgians love to pair it with their fries though
TALABA FOR THE WIN!!
Kbye.
Bukawil

Not sure if they ar the same. From what i heard doon la g daw yun. May kamukha kasi siyang shells pero iba lasa eh. Main difference sa shell nila is cagaycay sheels are smooth yung kamukha nya you can feel or see rhe ridges or lines

Diwal or Angel Wings...
Halaan, Talaba, Tahong
And it's improper to attack him/her like that. We can always give our opinion.

now i want talaba tuloy hahahha. sarap talaga pag fresh and malalaki
The oysters in the Philippines are terrible. I only appreciated oysters when I went to California.
