Can I give a tip? I can't use dry shampoo if my hair is already greasy, it just cakes up and is gross. I use it the night before I believe my hair will get greasy, works way better for me that way!

rscg18

Yes! I apply right after my hair gets completely dry and I get so much more mileage out of a wash.

Yourdeletedhistory

Yep! That's what I do too. I can actually skip a day washing my hair if I do this. Otherwise I'm flat and greasy by the end of day 1.

MamaOnica

This is how I've always recommended using dry shampoo. Spray your head the night before, it'll get worked through your hair better and have time to soak up the oils.

squeakyfromage

Yes, this is the way!!!! Makes a world of difference for me.

[deleted]

Thanks so much I’ll try this!

golden_lightly

I have used so. many. dry shampoos. I still prefer the DIY version because of cost and I hate residue: food grade rice starch. Started using it (instead or cornstarch/arrowroot) a few months ago because all of the highest-rated powder dry shampoos have it as the main ingredient. I keep it in a vintage glass jar and use a powder makeup brush to apply it to my roots/hairline. It’s amazing, doesn’t cause my scalp to itch, doesn’t have buildup like the other starches, and is SO cheap. I also add just a little bit of vanilla oleoresin and grapefruit essential oil for scent (careful with not overdoing this).

Frondswithbenefits

Love this idea! Thanks, you're a gem.

golden_lightly

yw! 🙌🏻

BettinaVanSise

I use rice flour because I couldn’t find rice starch in the large Asian grocery store. It works so well. Same, wide mouth jar and a powder brush. I use it lightly on just shampoo hair to add volume or hair that needs a freshening up.

emotionaldistress_

I use not your mothers clean freak dry shampoo! I’m a brunette and find I don’t have issues with it being light colored, but they do have a brunette specific dry shampoo if you need it.

Ziggie520

I second not your mothers too!

Thank you so much :)

Separate-Asparagus36

Another vote for this one! I also commented separately before I saw this.

sovonym

I love the Klorane dry shampoo from Amazon!

WeLoveThatForMe_2023

I’ve tried so many other brands over the years but keep coming back to Klorane. The best on the market.

No_Kaleidoscope9901

I love the Klorane purifying/mint version. It’s the only spray dry shampoo that doesn’t give me a headache from the chemical smell.

gatadeplaya

Batiste. I always come back to it and it comes in lighter or darker colors if that’s a concern.

stutter-rap

Yeah, I had given up on Batiste a few years ago when I couldn't get the powdery look out, but their dark brown is really good now. Klorane is also good (again as the darker haired option if needed).

diarrhea_pocket

I just hate how the dark rubs off on everything. Pillowcases, hats, car headrest, under my fingernails

stutter-rap

That's true, I sometimes rub my head briefly with a dry towel afterwards as that seems to make it better. Klorane is better for not leaving excess.

bbymiscellany

I have light hair and my car headrest has a white powdery head print lol I hate it too

strawcat

Do you rub it in and then brush? I also sometimes hit it with the hairdryer for a bit. Applying it before bed, rub, brush, sleep helps my daughter too.

Crafty_Ad3377

Same. I love the volume Batiste

Obliterkate

Cornstarch

datuwudo

Either of the Living Proofs, they are so expensive but the only ones that actually mimic clean hair, don’t itch, and are invisible.

The best! I always grab a can for travelling

Dry shampoo goes on CLEAN hair!! It will change your life

squeakyfromage

I never see this one mentioned, but I love the Bumble & bumble pret-a-powder dry shampoo (the powder, not the spray). It’s expensive but it lasts me a long time, whereas I find I tend to go through the spray ones in a month. And the key is definitely to use it at night/overnight before you wake up with the greasy hair. And then I use a bit in the morning to maintain that. Or if I’m styling my clean hair, I’ll sometimes add some of this powder in the spots I get oily (at the beginning of the day/when styling, before the greasiness happens). I do like Klorane as well, and Batiste is good, but sometimes I find both of those make my hair feel dirty in a way that I can’t really describe. I have seborrhoeic dermatitis and have a super-sensitive scalp (and can’t go very long without washing, which exacerbates Seb Derm), and I find the B&b one the least dirty/itchy feeling.

Crispy_Fish_Fingers

I love the Bumble & Bumble powder! I’ve been using the same bottle for several years. Granted, I don’t use it every day, but when I do, it works. Like others have said, I use it right after drying when my hair is clean.

CBonafide

This might sound silly but instead of dry shampoo I use blotting paper.

InfoMole

I’ve mentioned in another thread but I find the Monday Haircare dry shampoo to be amazing!! I have access to more expensive brands through work, but this is the one I come back to. Plus gives nice volume. I get mine at Walmart, but I’m in Canada so not sure about elsewhere!

l8rt8rz

This one makes my hair feel stiff and dry, I have to put leave in conditioner on the ends when I use it, but it is quite good at getting out the grease on the roots! My favorite is Drybar, I would recommend buying it at Marshall’s if you can find it there because it is a bit pricey otherwise, but I feel like it dries it out just the right amount, my hair still feels soft and plus it smells nice.

[deleted]

I’ll have to see if we have this in the UK, thanks!

CatatonicCouchSlug

I've seen this line at Boots!

Bethie1205

Tap secret dry shampoo powder from I dew care. It comes in a dispenser with a puff built in you just tap it on your roots. You can get it on Amazon.

No_Kaleidoscope9901

This one is great and perfect for travel! I took it with me on a 4-day backpacking trip.

V_Dub_On_Wheels

Amika!

katertot55

I like Aveda’s dry shampoo, but it’s a bit pricey. It smells really good and gives my hair good volume!

theynameditgenevieve

Came here to say this!! Best dry shampoo I’ve ever used, and it isn’t close

velvetpasta

Moroccan Oil is the best IMO. It’s the only one that doesn’t turn my hair white, but doesn’t leave behind pigment on my fingers and doesn’t make my hair feel weirdly textured.

meuler1210

Yes! I second this. It’s the only one that truly works on my oily, fine hair.

gl1tterwh0re

I have the SAME PROBLEM and it’s so annoying, especially in the summertime. I use the Not Your Mothers Volumizing dry shampoo and it works really well on day 3 and day 4. I started to use shampoos that are hard water specific, even if I’m somewhere where the water is super filtered out. But, most water, especially city water is soooo bad for your hair and your skin. I use the Malibu C Hard Water Wellness shampoo and conditioner. It was pretty affordable on Amazon and it helped reduce the amount of grime, grease, and not as much comes out when I shower too. A hair detox like Apple cider vinegar can help get rid of build up and really clean your scalp with help a ton once you find a recipe you like. It’s like 3 ingredients and you can make it at home too!

lucylov

The only one that works for me is Klorane

Stop_icant

Batiste hands down!

fiveftgiant

No Drought from Lush. Just cornstarch and lime but smells good

Evening-Tune-500

I’ve tried sooo many, my top tiers are Amika and living proof phd advanced (lighter silver bottle). And always apply the night before for me!

ChalleysAngel

I've tried all of them and always come back to Batiste. I have dark hair and never have an issue with powdery look. I section my hair and spray it on all over. Then don't touch it until I've done my skincare and makeup. Let it sit at least 20 minutes. Then really rub in and brush out. I can go another one or two days without washing.

junkfoodfit2

I swear by R and Co.

studeraqui

If you can find it, Fat Boy is the best. I have straight, limp, greasy, fine hair that doesn’t like most dry shampoos and that one is amazing.

ricarak

I use a salicylic acid scalp treatment before I wash my hair and it keeps it grease free for 1-2 days longer ☺

tedfundy

I like bumble and bumble. It’s very volumizing as well.

Justadropinthesea

I like the non aerosol Khlorane

IM2TIR3D

I just started using the dry shampoo paste from R&Co hair and I’m obsessed

MindtheMaze

Eva NYC super lightweight, huge size, great price, looks good on dark hair!

cabbage-soup

Acure dry shampoo is my best friend for my no shower days

Crazy-Marionberry-23

Have you been to many camping festivals? I highly recommend getting cute hair accessories like hats, clips, handkerchiefs, etc. Depending on the weather I usually wear my hair in space buns, pigtail braids, or a French braid. Honestly you can't really tell if it's greasy because it's always up in something cute!

TheBarefootGoddess

Arrowroot, and I usually make batches with Rosemary essential oil. Cost effective, and great for your scalp/hair! It’s magical for me

stories4harpies

Osis!

dilholforever

Kevin Murphy - put it on the night before, brush through, super fresh in the morning

Separate-Asparagus36

Not Your Mothers in the green can.

multiplekurczakis

I hate that it’s so expensive but Moroccanoil. I sometimes spray a little batiste for the night but to freshen up in the morning it’s moroccanoil, can keep me for like 3 days which is a record number for me. I don’t even need to rewash bangs, I just wet em and redry them and it looks solid.

PennyApple_08

K18 airwash is sooo good!!

dankeykrang

Brush, apply dry shampoo, brush, let sit for a few, towel dry to remove all the excess powder and absorbed gunk, brush, profit.

mcalawso

Wash/dry your hair, use Moroccan oil dry shampoo (on your clean and dry hair) and watch how much less greasy your hair gets!! It’s incredible!

Sensitive-Soul-49

Anika’s new line is really great. And I agree with using before your gets greasy.

UncomfortablyHere

I use Batiste mostly to cover thin areas but also handle some grease. My oily hair shampoo helps prevent so much of the grease. For oily prone hair, dry shampoo is better as a preventative. If I need to keep my hair looking okay, after I clean and dry my hair, I’ll use dry shampoo at the roots, particularly in the areas that tend to be the most oily. I personally don’t follow the 12” away thing and spray much closer to my head so I can have more accuracy. I also French or Dutch braid my hair at night to help keep it protected with more dry shampoo and fluffing in the morning. If it gets on the top of my hair and makes it look dull, I’ll lightly wipe those areas with a damp cloth or damp hands to remove the extra shampoo from the surface

ragdoll1022

Amika is great, l'ange is okay.

Juniper__12

I Dew Care Tap Secret is my holy grail!! I have fine greasy bangs and this stuff gets rid of all the grease and gives them so much volume! And it’s small so I carry it in my purse, especially in the summertime so I can reapply. It’s perfect for events like festivals. I used it while traveling southeast asia in July-August last year, and my bangs looked great the whole time despite the 90 degree temps and 90% humidity :)

WJAMJASDA26

IGK- Charcoal Dry Shampoo

CuteGold3

Batiste Overnight Cleanse is my holy grail dry shampoo I loooove it and it has helped me go from needing to wash every single day to every 2-3 days

StrangePen

I love this stuff too.

eyelinerfordays

Batiste, but specifically their Volumizing dry shampoo. HG status!
