I turned my microwave into my mailbox years ago. Never going back.
Not having a microwave makes you think about what you are going to eat a lot more, you have to actually wait for something to heat up in the oven or on the stove instead of just tossing 500 calories in the microwave.
I use my stove far more often than my microwave. I hate that goopy/chewy microwave texture, I only really microwave liquid meals like soup. I even opt for the stove at work a lot of times, but probably not common to have a full commercial kitchen where you work.
To reheat stuff quickly is awesome.
I use it to reheat most of my meal prep and oat bars.
Also it has a nice steaming function and accessories that work nicely. Heating up milk in there is also a plus.
Since it’s so cheap I don’t know why you shouldn’t have, other than lack of space.
I bulk cook and microwaves are the absolute best time and money saver
There might be an upfront cost now, but being able to heat up my rice, chicken and vegetables in 2 and a half minutes is incredible
Just trial and experiment bulk cooking and how that can work for you in regards to reheating
Cooking meals that taste good when reheated is a skill, it just takes trial and error
Ah yeah if you prep for a few days that might be a thing, I just cook daily. Some carbs actually have lower GI when cold, like potatoes, so I just don't reheat most of the time either.
It's a tool of convenience. An oven will reheat everything perfectly, but you need to wait for the oven to heat up and then it usually takes longer to cook something. I don't know what we spent on it but we have a small microwave that also has a bake and air fry function on it. Those functions are perfect for single servings. Again, you don't need a microwave but it will cut down on the amount of time you need to set aside to make a meal.
I’m down ~23lb and don’t have a microwave at home. I moved into this apartment about ten months ago and am lacking a bit in space right now so it’s a ‘one day’ purchase but honestly haven’t missed it that much in the meantime. I heat meal prep stuff on the stove mostly.
... How do you not own a microwave.
They are useful for re-heating your mealprep (the real thing that will help you lose weight), but you can use your oven or stove for re-heating as well, it's just much more of a hazzle.
Not trying to be a dick, but microwaves are cheap man, just buy one.
But honestly, you can absolutely meal prep and re-heat in an oven instead. This would work for casseroles, for example. But the amount of time you have to wait before eating, surely that becomes an inconvenience. And unless you work from home, what do you do with lunches at work?
I suppose you could just make sure you meal prep only cold food. Slice up chicken breasts and use a good multi-grain bread and you've got a reasonable sandwich, with some veggies on the side. Or cold chicken salad, or egg salad, or tuna. I dunno.
The only things I really use my microwave for are those steam-in-bag vegetables, but it's really not required (honestly, I prefer roasting or sauteing with a bit of olive oil, but the microwave does make it easier).
You could always start a bonfire in your neighbors trash can. Might as well kill and roast their cat while you’re at it. High protein, ya know? And cheaper than Chinese food…
Microwave is a nice to have but not a must.
Air fryer will work for many things. A microwave is convenient.

The reheating seems ideal, can’t imagine reheating with an oven constantly

You’ll find multiple uses. Also the occasional microwaved ready-made meal, when life gets in the way. I can’t imagine living without it.
you can always reheat on the stove, no need to turn on the whole oven lol
Huh? The only thing I use microwave for is porridge. You aren't supposed to eat ready-to-eat processed food anyway, most of the time.
I was more thinking of the reheating everyone seems to do

Air fry to heat up?
Air frying works, but it’s not as gentle heating it up as the microwave. And it’s wayyyyy messier.

No tv, no microwave

It helps. *A* method of quickly reheating food - a toaster oven, perhaps - makes life much easier.

can use a mini travel kettle, its about the size of a water bottle.
I use it to reheat meal prep easily. Very helpful and not that expensive
For reheating, a microwave is a must for me. When my microwave died, I was out of my house in less than an hour, to go shopping for another one.

It's a nice to have item. Not a need to have!
