Why was there kind of a mystery around Mike's last name? Like the scene where him and Vanessa are introducing themselves and he just says Mike. Only to end up being Mike Schmidt not Afton?? Like what was the point of all that??
I think it was him recognising the surname, because he was responsible for abducting Garrett Schmidt. In like a “what are the odds?” fashion.
I agree though, I initially interpreted it as him finding the surname laughable. Like Mike had changed his name (or his name had been changed in childhood) and William was in disbelief, able to recognise Mike whilst Mike no longer recognised him.

Thoughts ? Scariest parts were the deaths of max, hank, carl, and the other guy. The movie was pretty tense, and because it strayed pretty far from the lore, I never knew what would happen next. 8/10, could easily be scarier however I understand that it had to be okay for younger audiences and I still hope that they release a longer scarier version like they did with Megan.
Edit: I was mostly right with the prototype Baby idea, it's an animatronic from the books/graphic novels called ella, which is basically a prototype version of baby
Another edit: The animatronic dog seen in the supply closet is fetch from the fazbear frights books and not Sparky. Sparky doesn't have the golden collar which fetch does
If im not mistaken i read somewhere that animatronic dog is NOT sparky but is actually Fetch from fazbear frights also him using a knife is not from vanny it is from when he dressed up as spring bonnie and did it in the silver eyes novel which he was also springlocked and had his death watched by the robots like in the movie this movie is a lot more like the books
Although they’re killer animatronics, it’s good that it was brought back to its core of child spirits being trapped in robots. I’m glad that Vanessa pointed out that they were being controlled by Afton and they didn’t want to hurt people. It was cool to see them acting child like and wanting to play in scenes, and Abby showing concern for them at the end too rather than them being made out to be evil throughout. Also, I absolutely loved the nod to sparky the dog. It was a great reference to the early fnaf days
I thought I was the only one who noticed! I saw him in the first parts and service scene, the dismantled mess of an animatronic. I thought “I’d that him?!” But thought it may have just been Freddy.

Here are my opinions on the movie as a fan of the games (Spoilers obv). Also: I'm not a film buff, just an enjoyer of the franchise. Opinion alert.
\- Mike and Abby's brother and sister relationship was really well executed, especially acting wise. They spoke and acted how siblings would and the movie also delved into the strained parts of their relationship and how Mike struggled to connect with his younger sister. I especially liked the scene where he just picks her up and chucks her before taking his vest back. That was sweet. The actor's bonds were believable (for me, at least) and interesting to watch. I especially loved how Abby's actress actually behaved how a child her age would in a place such as Freddy's. Sentient robots that interact with you? Of course she's gonna be excited and want to keep coming back. Hats off to Piper Rubio for leaning into that element of childlike wonder. I guess it's easy for her since she is a child and the animatronics were real, but it still felt like she was acting and not just being a kid on a movie set.
\- The animatronics were a big highlight of the movie. I loved that they were practical and not CGI. The attention to detail was great. The designs paid tribute to the original game while also incorporating realistic elements that brought them to life on the big screen. I liked how the use of the soft materials, especially on Foxy's face. I will say there were some scenes where you could tell the puppeteers were acting instead of the animatronics being remote-controlled, which bothered me slightly but didn't ruin the magic for me. They were extremely expressive, especially Freddy. However, they were a little underused horror-wise. A lot of deaths or attacks from the animatronics were off-screen and the cupcake was way too overused. I didn't like how it was the one to activate the springlocks for Afton. (I'll get to that scene in a moment). These robots are meant to be menacing and intimidating creatures, so the fact we didn't get to see them in action was extremely upsetting. For example Foxy running at his targets was cool and a nice throwback to his original game mechanic but I didn't enjoy how, after this, it would just cut to black/cut to another scene.
\- Vanessa was an interesting addition to the story but unfortunately was burdened with the task of saying the goofiest dialogue. The actress was great regardless of this shortcomings, she was extremely expressive and the scene where she confronts her father, when she's stabbed by him and feels conflicted when telling Mike about him was a great watch and really made me hurt for her, but the writing team just did not like her for some reason. I will say that the actress has really beautiful eyes!! But I digress. The scene where she snaps at Mike, telling him that she'll shoot him if he brings Abby back to the pizzeria was just weird for me. It was supposed to be stern and threatening, but it was just kind of strange and out-of-place. Her character just seems to be there to explain the main story to non-fans and also to Mike. One thing I appreciated is how they didn't lean into a romantic subplot with Mike and Vanessa. Not every movie with a guy and a girl requires them to be smoochin' and it especially wouldn't feel right with this franchise so I'm glad they didn't fall into the Hollywood trap.
\- Matthew Lillard as Afton was extremely under utilised. He appears around the beginning and returns around the end and then he gets locked in the spare room supposedly ready for a comeback in the sequel. He serves as a substitute for the phone guy but he just felt really lackluster for me. Also, yes, he said the thing ("I always come back") but the delivery just really fell flat. The man's torso was being punctured by metal and he didn't seem that bothered by it, just kind of irritated and biting his tongue to avoid screaming- but that's what I honestly would've preferred. The springlock scene in general was really disappointing for me and I was quite upset that it didn't live up to the hype that fans interpreted. In the games, it's initially quick, but extremely bloody and leads to Afton twitching before gradually falling to the floor and succumbing to his wounds. In the movie it's still slow, with the springlocks puncturing him one by one instead of all at once (another thing I didn't prefer) and Afton doesn't seem as terrified by it as you would assume. He just kind of accepts that it's happening before PUTTING THE HEAD OF THE COSTUME THAT'S KILLING HIM BACK ON, saying his iconic line and having the animatronics drag him away. I don't know whether this is a direction flaw or a writing flaw but overall Afton as a character didn't seem as menacing and intricate as the games which was extremely disappointing.
\- There are PLENTY of easter eggs for fans look out for that I really appreciated. I can't remember all of them from the top of my head but some include the original CELEBRATE poster, Chica's Magic Rainbow being some sort of mascot for this ice-cream bar that Mike goes to, Dream theory reference and a cameo from both MatPat and CoryXKenshin. Also, yes, Matthew Patrick has a cameo in this film and he says his catchphrase. Y'all were making sad edits about him but the man was lying. /j. Also, despite not being a Cory fan (I don't dislike him, I'm just not familiar with his content) his cameo made me laugh. He was a funny part of the film and despite his short appearance I enjoyed it a lot. Also, THE LIVING TOMBSTONE SONG IN THE CREDITS WAS BRILLIANT! Props to the producers of the film for understanding the fan's love for the games.
\- I really wish they incorporated more horror elements into the film. For a franchise so well renowned in the horror community it just kind of lacked those scary elements. Sure, there were plenty of jumpscares but unfortunately a lot of them weren't that surprising since the trailers spoiled a lot of them which I was a little bit peeved about. It was upsetting to see how this movie aimed for an M rating/PG-13 rating and it just didn't feel too scary for me. A lot of the deaths were just kind of glossed over. Like, there's one scene where Mike is in Parts and Services surrounded by corpses and he just doesn't react to them? However the jumpscare where Max, the babysitter, gets cut CLEAN in half did make me shocked. I was not expecting that, even from a franchise like FNAF. Nevertheless, I was quite disappointed that a movie based off a franchise that spooked and scared tons of people just didn't incorporate a lot of elements you'd expect from a horror movie.
\- Finally, the infamous table fort scene. Yes, it was campy and, yes, it felt out of place. I both loved it and cringed at it. I liked how the movie leaned into humanisation of the animatronics and highlighted how they were still children who still somewhat hold onto that innocence. I liked the motif of using imagery to communicate messages and how Abby's drawings played an important role in moving the story along. Do it think it could have been handled better? Sure. Do I think it should've been the reason the tables are turned on Afton. Definitely not. The attempt was there and I was interested in how they utilised the recurring theme of correlating Abby's drawings to childhood innocence as well as the loss of that innocence around the end. But i still think it could've been done right. I was cringing at the table fort scene when watching the film in theatres despite it making me laugh but, looking back on it, it was a fun to see our favourite animatronics be giant goofballs despite this being a tactic to lure Abby in. I still don't understand why Vanessa wanted to help them and indulge in their fun if she knew they would turn out to be evil but whatever. It was a cute scene and was fun to watch as a fan. Yeah, it was a tiny bit strange but still funny and sweet even when taking into account the motives of the animatronics.
Overall, after collecting my thoughts and reviewing other people's opinions, I'd personally give the movie a solid 7/10. It was lacking in some areas and maybe if they leaned into the lore of the games more than the lore of the books I might have enjoyed it a little bit more, but for the most part it was a pretty good movie for fans to enjoy. I'm hoping the next two movies of the trilogy take into account both the non-fan reviewers and fan's criticisms and work to make them a little bit better than the first. I wouldn't go see this movie expecting it to be a typical horror film despite it being advertised as such, it's more of a thriller that's more focused on telling a story than scaring you. Maybe the scares would have been better if it weren't for the trailers, but regardless it's a good film for the fans but slightly disappointing if you're expecting it to be similar to the game because it's just not. A lot of loose ends have yet to be tied up but hopefully will be in the next movies.
Don't take the film too seriously, have fun and enjoy it. Thanks for reading.
My one real complaint for the movie is they never ‘play the game’ in the movie.
They have the security office, but it’s only used for Mike’s dreams and forgotten about after night 3. Same goes for the cameras, and the doors weren’t used after the intro scene.
It doesn’t have to be a full night or anything, just something that uses the classic gameplay in some way.
Other than that, I did enjoy the movie and hope we do get more eventually.

I can't help but feel like a lot was cut from it. None of the animatronics where voiced (not saying that's a negative) the puppet wasn't in it despite supposedly being cast and a lotta the stuff from the security tape (news report, shadow freddy) didn't make it into the final cut. I feel it could have benefitted from an extra 20 minutes or so, Afton comes out of nowhere for a non-fan and a few things go nowhere (Aunt Jane dies and is then never brought up again).
That being said I loved the movie, Dream theory book, Sparky, Ella springlock suit, Matpat were all great. Love how they made the pixel art at the beginning match Scotts Style. Overall I think it had a nice message about letting go of the past or being consumed by it. I also think that it managed to juggle various tones well, the movie manages to go from being eerie to lighthearted and campy to eerie again.

I don’t see the issue with the fort scene.
The fort scene gives the robots themselves more character by showing they aren’t just mindless robots trying to kill Mike. It’s important to emphasize that these animatronics are, at their core, *children.*
You lose the real tragedy of the missing kids if you only focus on them as vengeful killer robots. By giving them a moment of levity where they play with Abby, it serves as a reminder that they were once just like her, but their lives, their innocence, was stolen.
I loved it, but I’d be lying if I didn’t accidentally say “what the *fuck*” out loud while everyone was laughing in the theater
Not in a bad way, but in a “this whole movie feels like a fever dream” kinda way, absolutely loved it
The UK/Irish reviews rolling out are really fair I think; in terms of the script, it is a pretty strange choice to neither go for a slasher movie or a goofier take on the franchise. The route taken means that its humour is sort of incidental, nod-at-the-audience nonsense, whilst it also tries to have the main character be struggling with (very long-term) trauma.
Fingers crossed when we get a sequel, it has a more stable production pipeline and is more sure about the lane it's sitting in.

Personally, I believe the 2nd movie Will Be about Abby, 20 Years from now, Finding out that Someone is trying to revive the horror she, Mike and Vanessa went through Viq Fazbear Frights and took a job there to "Visit her friends" and The Plot runs from there. But thats just my Theory.
Tbh, the I always come back felt so forced. They had to put it in there somewhere cause it's Afton, it's his line i get it but it felt like there were better times. Like could have had vanessa tell mike that he always comes back or something. Just felt like "oh shit we're out of time gotta get the line in"

I think It was Just the Excitement and Joy of everyone seeing the Springlock scene That made everyone Just Lose their Shit When he said it lmao. I Do Think perhaps It would have been better saved for the end, While Hes Twitching In the Backroom, Some sort of Gutteral "I Will Always Come back!" Or some shit might have been more Chilling/Effective.
i do think Matthew Really killed it as Afton though, and Its a shame he wasnt In the movie More. Some Hint towards his Involvement with Vanessa, or perhaps mike Talking to Him about the break in would have been Interesting.
After watching the springlock scene with full context I don’t think it’s as bad as people are saying. Realistically there wouldn’t be gushes and pools of blood coming out like in the game. He got stabbed when someone gets stabbed with the knife still inside them they don’t just start exploding blood. If they had had the end credits scene with Springtrap as the end of the springlock scene it would’ve worked better imo instead of sticking it at the end and they should’ve cut the “I always come back” line entirely imo I don’t think it worked in the context of the scene. I don’t think the scene was bad, just weirdly directed.
Well they didn’t put much emphasis on the point that he kept coming back I don’t think. Correct me if I’m wrong but the initial 5 kids were more spaced out instead of a single incident. If they had put more emphasis on the continuous murders Afton was doing it would’ve flowed better. Or adding some line of dialogue from someone saying like “you can’t hurt anyone anymore” or something like that idk I’m not a screenwriter and then have him say the line would’ve made it better imo
The Gamespot review makes a really good point; it really would not be surprising if there's a cut of this movie possible with ten or twenty more minutes of runtime that improves it a lot, giving the second half's plot much more time to breathe.
Not sure that's going to happen but given it's a "for the fans" movie, as specified, and given it's this franchise, it wouldn't surprise me if we see this movie get an extended cut. There are scenes we 100% know exist and were shot that are outright missing, such as the reporter reporting on the missing kids in front of the pizzeria.
I really wouldn’t be surprised if there was at least one Afton scene that was cut. Like you said earlier, him basically exiting the film in the 2nd act is a pretty big negative and kinda throws the pacing off and makes the 3rd act seem rushed
I wanted to bring up some parallels between the movie and the games that seem kinda interesting, like it seems to confirm some things and throws some new things in the ring.
NEW(ISH) IDEAS
- Vanessa is William Afton’s daughter in the movie: I know this theory was already up in the air with her dad being called “Bill” in the games, and it was implied that he manipulated and abused her, but this connection seems solidified by the movie, or at least makes it explicitly clear that Vanessa and Afton are connected in some way in the games.
- The Crying Child’s movie stand-in is called Garrett: So while this doesn’t necessarily confirm the Crying Child’s name, it’s worth pointing out that every other character’s parallel has the same name. William Afton, Vanessa, Michael, Abby (short for Elizabeth). So logically, a character who isn’t named in the game but is named in the movie would share the same name. Also, Scott co-wrote the script. The name Garrett was chosen deliberately.
CONFIRMED EVENTS
- The missing children incident took place in the 80s (mentioned by Vanessa)
- Michael is the older brother (this didn’t really need conforming at this point but it’s nice to have things definitely set in stone)
INTERESTING THINGS TO THINK ABOUT
- The spring lock suit Abby was being forced into bears some striking similarities to Circus Baby: this is to be expected, Abby is a parallel to Elizabeth, so she’d be forced into something resembling Baby. But it does pose the question of when Circus Baby was built. Because she has spring locks in her mechanism, implying it was built on the early end of the 80s. Now we all know Sister Location is a bitch when it comes to placing it in the timeline, but this does seem like it could suggest something
It was worrying in the moment lol but it's very clearly just meant to be misdirect before it's revealed the ghost kids aren't allies. They're actually pretty sinister and im glad they didn't end up going down the friendly animatronics route
I died laughing man. Me and the others in the cinema could not believe what we were seeing, I genuinely thought it was gonna be a semi-serious horror film but after that I just could not take it seriously. Like I enjoyed the film, it was fun, but the movie I struggled finding scary in any capacity though the animatronics, effects, and actors were great.
they tease a sequel in the ending/end credits, but the movie timeline will likely play out differently than the games (og prequel sequel). they directly reference fnaf 2 (and 3 as well) during the movie a few times though
The actor gets... two and a bit scenes. Springtrap is shown a lot in the movie but he's only actually around being an actual murder gremlin in the last fifteen minutes or so.
Yep. It's not outright explained how this is done in the movie, either. The movie \_really\_ relies on "eh it's ghost magic, don't think too hard" as a mechanic to handwave how things work. I'd expect the two sequels will go into more of the whys.

As a movie fan, the pacing was a bit all over the place, stuff came out of nowhere and things just seem jolted together.
As a fan of the games, I had a lot of fun and some of the scenes made me so fucking happy. That diner scene gave me the biggest smile. Still messed some things up and I was slightly confused about how some things connected. I know it won't do well with the critics but I had fun and so did everyone else watching. Okay I liked the film a lot. Didn’t love it. Didn’t have high expectations, so it was exactly what I was waiting for the past 8 year. Hoped it would have been better in some aspects, but I don’t mind the direction they took it.
One thing that bothers me the most is why wasn’t there a bigger thing made of >!the murder of Aunt jane? Did Golden Freddy behind the scenes dissapparate her body or something. She’d at least be reported missing at some point and Mike would be the first suspect considering the legal battle. Like she just died and nothing comes out of it? Mike and Abby just live happily ever after and theres no investigation or anything!<

I FINALLY saw it after being a fan since the first game and I understand why it’s so divisive. This movie isn’t a horror movie, but it’s also just weird. Weird structure, plot, and pacing. I loved the characters, especially the animatronics, and I really cared about what was going on, but my main gripe is that basically nothing is explained. I mean the general audience needs to at least understand WHY William is doing what he’s doing and what happened in Vanessa’s past that was so horrible, which I assume will be explained in the future…if there is one.
I actually don’t think the general audience is going to like this very much, it’s not even M3GAN level of horror, it’s very light on it. Then I see why game fans won’t like it because of the lighter atmosphere and the direction they chose to take the story.
I still had a fun time but I’m not sure this movie will make a mark enough to have a sequel. If they do get one, they really should ramp up the creepiness and horror (not meaning gore) while also telling a clearer story.
Also, I don’t care what people say, the fort building scene was the best scene in the movie. So cute!
Him having all three big jumpscares in the movie while all being the laughing “oh FUCK you” kind was PERFECT for BB and I’m so happy (I also liked how they updated his mouth to make him scarier and made him smaller for versatility- is it weird that I want a movie version replica now?

- The animatronic they try to springlock Abby into is not baby, it’s a withered Ella from the FF 1:35AM book/story
- I think the electric weapon scene was a nod to fnaf 6? I don’t remember if Vanessa said controlled shock
Tbh I am really not a fan of how it ended. WAYY too many things left unanswered. Why is Golden Freddy like that? How can he teleport? He is physical because the taxi gets weighed down, so he can’t be just a ghost? Why is he the main child of the five? Why didn’t Vanessa just stop her father when she had the chance? What the fuck happened to Jane’s body?!? What about the Garret subplot, it just ends after “Wow! Abby is like Garret!” then hes just forgotten about??? Like what the fuck happened to him? What was Afton’s motives?
Also not a fan of the whole sleep thing. So much opportunity to explore these animatronics that is severely under-utilised for building forts and dancing and singing and cupcake only scenes…
I love fnaf to bits, and everything else in the film was good. I think the springlock scene was great (I do wish it was Vanessa who activated the springlocks though not the cupcake…) but I can’t help but think the ending was severely rushed with no thought put into it.
Four Sleeps At Freddys is like, average I’d say. I think there was opportunity to do so much more with what they had but for some reason didn’t.
Right so I've now seen the FNAF movie. There were I think two people watching it with me at 10am...
Overall I think it's probably wise they did not lift the embargo before tomorrow; the average reviewer is not going to buy the premise at all, and the movie is 100% a for-the-fans thing, a $20m fan movie, and a good bit of income for all involved, rather than Blum and co's breakout hit five-starer. This ain't Get Out.
That said it's competent, occasionally very good, and rarely boring. Its worst sin is pacing, and my hunch is that there's a lot on the cutting room floor. Raglan being AWOL in the entire second act hurts the ending a lot, and the movie never really builds up a sense of horror. You do get a proper feeling of the tragic side of the story, though - Mike and those around him suffer a lot from the pains of their past and I really liked the human characters in general.
EDIT: Wrote in my notes that this is a "horror-themed experience, rather than a horror movie". Which means it does sort of fail at being FNAF1, which at the time was a very spooky game indeed.
I'm going to disagree on the reception. Cinema has been packed all day today. My screening had a great vibe.

I think as far as many movies go now with horror we have torture porn horror Saw, Hostel etc, Americana horror - teens go to x, killer is there because and then franchise horror - Halloween etc.
This fits nicely in the video game premise with quirky elements. How it is a 15 in the UK is beyond me. Could have been PG/12 easy.
Not even a Fuck or Fucking in there to raise the rating needlessly.
And I'm glad it is this way as it could have been so easy to go full CGI horror bullshit. The live action animatronics really put the bigger studios to shame on effort to translate material to screen imo.
The guy who's face that got literally shredded by the cupcake, the aftermath was pretty visible when mike wakes up around the bodies, we were fairly certain that was what bumped up the rating.
I suppose I’ll play devils advocate and say that the springlock scene wasn’t that bad.
Specifically, I thought the beginning of the scene when the locks were being driven into Afton where decently effective, plus I thought Lillard’s reactions to it where good.
The two main problems with it were, imo:
1. There really needed to be SOME blood shown. I wasn’t expecting there to be like, guts spewing everywhere, but this was literally the perfect scene to turn up the gore and the fact that they didn’t do it really lessened the scenes impact. Even just having there be small patches of blood seeping into the suit as he writhes in agony would have been enough.
2. Lillard’s delivery of ‘I always come back‘ fell a little flat. He should have said it in a much more manic fashion imo.
why does max, hank and company break into freddys? scott cawthon rejected a couple of screenplays due to having no connection between the characters and freddys so why do they break in?? Ik im asking a lot but me and my friend have a lot of questions.

personally, I think it's better than it was in the games. before it was just an *"edgy phrase to just be edgy"* and in the movie it's like he's saying it out of spite, looking into the eyes of his creations and accepts his demise (by putting his mask back rather than trying to get out of the suit), knowing full well that he will surely come back.

As someone who loves the horror genre and really likes the world of fnaf this movie was utterly disappointing, I liked aspects of it and some scenes were great but the overall movie was a complete let down and I'm honestly kinda sad, it's sucks, I really wanted it to be good, but it just wasn't
I just finished watching the movie on Peacock and I just didn’t really like it all that much unfortunately :\
Some positives I liked were the general design and work put into the actual animatronics and props. I can tell lots of love was placed into those aspects of the movie. Sound effects were also pretty good in my opinion. I did also like the part where Max got bitten cleanly in half, that was a sick kill.
But aside from that everything just felt so…bland? For a movie about a series with a convoluted yet interesting lore they made it kinda boring I guess? Like don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting an Oscar award nominee with this, but I just kind of expected more and all we got was a sort of by the numbers horror movie that wasn’t even all that scary. I’m sure bigger fans of the series will get more enjoyment out of this, but for me as a casual fan who mainly loves the memes surrounding the series I was just kinda whelmed.
Here are my two cents on the movie.
- I love how "dream theory" was recontextualized as being a way to access memories rather than an explanation of the events of FNAF 4.
- The overall feel of the film doesn't really capture the darkness and helplessness of the game's atmosphere, but it clearly wasn't supposed to be a direct recreation of the game anyhow.
- The animatronics and how they behave is amazing, but it's a shame bonnie and golden freddy didn't get more screentime.
- I think at least one night of the animatronics believing Mike is an intruder and trying to get into the office would've been nice. 5 nights of him sleeping on the job wasn't quite what people were expecting from a film of this game lol
- Overall I'd give it a 7/10 for what it is.
Am I the only one that... didn't like it? I think the dream plot was contrived and overdone, there was so much focus on Mike's dead brother, and it felt like Matthew Lillard had a scheduling conflict and could only be in like 2 scenes, so they just wrote the movie around that. I don't know if that's true or not, but it felt like it. I don't know. I just expected more, I guess.
I feel like the "going back into your dreams to try and relive your memory for more information" is a plot thread that \*could\* make an interesting movie, it just feels out of place and like such a weird choice for FNAF. And why add Vanessa? Why set the movie in a run-down, closed freddy fazbear location? Why didn't they utilize Golden Freddy, the coolest mystery of the first game? (That goddamn cupcake got more screentime than him!)
So much of the game is based on the survival horror of being trapped in an enclosed space where the animatronics are getting ever closer to you, which I feel like is something that could be used... really well in a PG13 horror movie to get something genuinely scary without much gore or blood. Instead, the main character is NEVER trapped in the office, never has to conserve resources or actually do some kind of strategy to beat the animatronics. The tension just wasn't there. There were hardly any jumpscares for a movie based on a film so famous for them.
It's weird, because in many ways this movie really did feel like a labor of love. The incredibly designed physical props of the animatronics, the references and cameos, and the plot that (while I wasn't a fan of!) felt like someone put a lot of time and effort into. Despite that though, there were other moments where the film felt like it was made by someone who barely even understood the FNAF lore and the reasons so many people love it. (Or at least, the reasons I loved it!) So many of the decisions felt so bizarre in that way.
I didn't have high expectations coming into this film, but I had a fun time watching it with friends, and the matpat cameo made me lose my mind. I got wasted on dollaritas afterward. Overall a good night.
my deffo favourite scene was when they were making a fort with the animatronics (yes this is a real thing in the film) and the relationship abby had with the missing kids was adorable, even if they were trying to stuff her
Afraid I just didn't like it. I was on board for the more character-focused story, but the reveal that Afton took Garrett feels super contrived. Why was Afton in Nebraska taking kids? Why was Afton killing kids at all? The "power of a child's drawing" ending beat was so dumb for me. It feels like the first two acts of the film set up a load of interesting ideas and none of them paid off. Sure, Mike learns to let go of the past and focus on connecting with Abby, but that isn't very interesting by itself.
Which only makes it feel worse in retrospect because SO MUCH of the runtime is dedicated to the mystery of Garrett, and basically no time toward doing what Scott's FNAF has always done best - real atmospheric horror. I didn't feel tension at any point, at the start of every scene it feels like you know what's going to happen.
It just doesn't do what makes FNAF great, and it doesn't do what makes character-focused stories great either. It doesn't do anything great. I don't like it
Okay, so did Jane actually die? Because if so, that’s so dumb. It’s unceremonious, especially for one of the film’s antagonists. Plus, it’s Mary Stuart FREAKING Masterson, an actual legend! They also never mention her again after that. If she did die, I’d expect Mike to bring it up at least at the end. All I’m saying is we better see her in the sequels OR we get an extended death scene for her in the deleted scenes. I loved the movie, but wow, that annoys me to no end.
the springlocking is in the movie, but it's not shown in all its gory glory. the movie handles it well though, fnaf was never really a franchise about blood and gore besides the 8-bit minigames
Had a mum in front of me with her kid in Full Monty Getup, when the >!Woman Got Decapitated!< she clearly didn’t know what the series was about. Kid was way into it though, good times all round.
I personally thought the movie was great, I was giddy and on the edge of my seat the whole way though. The only thing that bugged me was why so much footage was seemingly cut? There’s lots of footage from the trailers and security footage teaser that just didn’t appear. What happened to fixed Foxy and Shadow Freddy, the MCI news broadcast. Were these solely for marketing or what?

I think it was him recognising the surname, because he was responsible for abducting Garrett Schmidt. In like a “what are the odds?” fashion. I agree though, I initially interpreted it as him finding the surname laughable. Like Mike had changed his name (or his name had been changed in childhood) and William was in disbelief, able to recognise Mike whilst Mike no longer recognised him.
How did William know what Garrett’s last name was? Maybe he saw news reports or missing posters about it?

Although they’re killer animatronics, it’s good that it was brought back to its core of child spirits being trapped in robots. I’m glad that Vanessa pointed out that they were being controlled by Afton and they didn’t want to hurt people. It was cool to see them acting child like and wanting to play in scenes, and Abby showing concern for them at the end too rather than them being made out to be evil throughout. Also, I absolutely loved the nod to sparky the dog. It was a great reference to the early fnaf days

Here are my opinions on the movie as a fan of the games (Spoilers obv). Also: I'm not a film buff, just an enjoyer of the franchise. Opinion alert. \- Mike and Abby's brother and sister relationship was really well executed, especially acting wise. They spoke and acted how siblings would and the movie also delved into the strained parts of their relationship and how Mike struggled to connect with his younger sister. I especially liked the scene where he just picks her up and chucks her before taking his vest back. That was sweet. The actor's bonds were believable (for me, at least) and interesting to watch. I especially loved how Abby's actress actually behaved how a child her age would in a place such as Freddy's. Sentient robots that interact with you? Of course she's gonna be excited and want to keep coming back. Hats off to Piper Rubio for leaning into that element of childlike wonder. I guess it's easy for her since she is a child and the animatronics were real, but it still felt like she was acting and not just being a kid on a movie set. \- The animatronics were a big highlight of the movie. I loved that they were practical and not CGI. The attention to detail was great. The designs paid tribute to the original game while also incorporating realistic elements that brought them to life on the big screen. I liked how the use of the soft materials, especially on Foxy's face. I will say there were some scenes where you could tell the puppeteers were acting instead of the animatronics being remote-controlled, which bothered me slightly but didn't ruin the magic for me. They were extremely expressive, especially Freddy. However, they were a little underused horror-wise. A lot of deaths or attacks from the animatronics were off-screen and the cupcake was way too overused. I didn't like how it was the one to activate the springlocks for Afton. (I'll get to that scene in a moment). These robots are meant to be menacing and intimidating creatures, so the fact we didn't get to see them in action was extremely upsetting. For example Foxy running at his targets was cool and a nice throwback to his original game mechanic but I didn't enjoy how, after this, it would just cut to black/cut to another scene. \- Vanessa was an interesting addition to the story but unfortunately was burdened with the task of saying the goofiest dialogue. The actress was great regardless of this shortcomings, she was extremely expressive and the scene where she confronts her father, when she's stabbed by him and feels conflicted when telling Mike about him was a great watch and really made me hurt for her, but the writing team just did not like her for some reason. I will say that the actress has really beautiful eyes!! But I digress. The scene where she snaps at Mike, telling him that she'll shoot him if he brings Abby back to the pizzeria was just weird for me. It was supposed to be stern and threatening, but it was just kind of strange and out-of-place. Her character just seems to be there to explain the main story to non-fans and also to Mike. One thing I appreciated is how they didn't lean into a romantic subplot with Mike and Vanessa. Not every movie with a guy and a girl requires them to be smoochin' and it especially wouldn't feel right with this franchise so I'm glad they didn't fall into the Hollywood trap. \- Matthew Lillard as Afton was extremely under utilised. He appears around the beginning and returns around the end and then he gets locked in the spare room supposedly ready for a comeback in the sequel. He serves as a substitute for the phone guy but he just felt really lackluster for me. Also, yes, he said the thing ("I always come back") but the delivery just really fell flat. The man's torso was being punctured by metal and he didn't seem that bothered by it, just kind of irritated and biting his tongue to avoid screaming- but that's what I honestly would've preferred. The springlock scene in general was really disappointing for me and I was quite upset that it didn't live up to the hype that fans interpreted. In the games, it's initially quick, but extremely bloody and leads to Afton twitching before gradually falling to the floor and succumbing to his wounds. In the movie it's still slow, with the springlocks puncturing him one by one instead of all at once (another thing I didn't prefer) and Afton doesn't seem as terrified by it as you would assume. He just kind of accepts that it's happening before PUTTING THE HEAD OF THE COSTUME THAT'S KILLING HIM BACK ON, saying his iconic line and having the animatronics drag him away. I don't know whether this is a direction flaw or a writing flaw but overall Afton as a character didn't seem as menacing and intricate as the games which was extremely disappointing. \- There are PLENTY of easter eggs for fans look out for that I really appreciated. I can't remember all of them from the top of my head but some include the original CELEBRATE poster, Chica's Magic Rainbow being some sort of mascot for this ice-cream bar that Mike goes to, Dream theory reference and a cameo from both MatPat and CoryXKenshin. Also, yes, Matthew Patrick has a cameo in this film and he says his catchphrase. Y'all were making sad edits about him but the man was lying. /j. Also, despite not being a Cory fan (I don't dislike him, I'm just not familiar with his content) his cameo made me laugh. He was a funny part of the film and despite his short appearance I enjoyed it a lot. Also, THE LIVING TOMBSTONE SONG IN THE CREDITS WAS BRILLIANT! Props to the producers of the film for understanding the fan's love for the games. \- I really wish they incorporated more horror elements into the film. For a franchise so well renowned in the horror community it just kind of lacked those scary elements. Sure, there were plenty of jumpscares but unfortunately a lot of them weren't that surprising since the trailers spoiled a lot of them which I was a little bit peeved about. It was upsetting to see how this movie aimed for an M rating/PG-13 rating and it just didn't feel too scary for me. A lot of the deaths were just kind of glossed over. Like, there's one scene where Mike is in Parts and Services surrounded by corpses and he just doesn't react to them? However the jumpscare where Max, the babysitter, gets cut CLEAN in half did make me shocked. I was not expecting that, even from a franchise like FNAF. Nevertheless, I was quite disappointed that a movie based off a franchise that spooked and scared tons of people just didn't incorporate a lot of elements you'd expect from a horror movie. \- Finally, the infamous table fort scene. Yes, it was campy and, yes, it felt out of place. I both loved it and cringed at it. I liked how the movie leaned into humanisation of the animatronics and highlighted how they were still children who still somewhat hold onto that innocence. I liked the motif of using imagery to communicate messages and how Abby's drawings played an important role in moving the story along. Do it think it could have been handled better? Sure. Do I think it should've been the reason the tables are turned on Afton. Definitely not. The attempt was there and I was interested in how they utilised the recurring theme of correlating Abby's drawings to childhood innocence as well as the loss of that innocence around the end. But i still think it could've been done right. I was cringing at the table fort scene when watching the film in theatres despite it making me laugh but, looking back on it, it was a fun to see our favourite animatronics be giant goofballs despite this being a tactic to lure Abby in. I still don't understand why Vanessa wanted to help them and indulge in their fun if she knew they would turn out to be evil but whatever. It was a cute scene and was fun to watch as a fan. Yeah, it was a tiny bit strange but still funny and sweet even when taking into account the motives of the animatronics. Overall, after collecting my thoughts and reviewing other people's opinions, I'd personally give the movie a solid 7/10. It was lacking in some areas and maybe if they leaned into the lore of the games more than the lore of the books I might have enjoyed it a little bit more, but for the most part it was a pretty good movie for fans to enjoy. I'm hoping the next two movies of the trilogy take into account both the non-fan reviewers and fan's criticisms and work to make them a little bit better than the first. I wouldn't go see this movie expecting it to be a typical horror film despite it being advertised as such, it's more of a thriller that's more focused on telling a story than scaring you. Maybe the scares would have been better if it weren't for the trailers, but regardless it's a good film for the fans but slightly disappointing if you're expecting it to be similar to the game because it's just not. A lot of loose ends have yet to be tied up but hopefully will be in the next movies. Don't take the film too seriously, have fun and enjoy it. Thanks for reading.
My one real complaint for the movie is they never ‘play the game’ in the movie. They have the security office, but it’s only used for Mike’s dreams and forgotten about after night 3. Same goes for the cameras, and the doors weren’t used after the intro scene. It doesn’t have to be a full night or anything, just something that uses the classic gameplay in some way. Other than that, I did enjoy the movie and hope we do get more eventually. Plus no nose boop, but that’s a different story
If MatPat is on the movie which seems to possibly be the case. I bet he will be a conspiracy theorist on the Missing Children’s incident. I would scream if he then said “but hey that’s just a theory! I can't help but feel like a lot was cut from it. None of the animatronics where voiced (not saying that's a negative) the puppet wasn't in it despite supposedly being cast and a lotta the stuff from the security tape (news report, shadow freddy) didn't make it into the final cut. I feel it could have benefitted from an extra 20 minutes or so, Afton comes out of nowhere for a non-fan and a few things go nowhere (Aunt Jane dies and is then never brought up again). That being said I loved the movie, Dream theory book, Sparky, Ella springlock suit, Matpat were all great. Love how they made the pixel art at the beginning match Scotts Style. Overall I think it had a nice message about letting go of the past or being consumed by it. I also think that it managed to juggle various tones well, the movie manages to go from being eerie to lighthearted and campy to eerie again. As a fan 10/10 As a non-fan 7/10

I don’t see the issue with the fort scene. The fort scene gives the robots themselves more character by showing they aren’t just mindless robots trying to kill Mike. It’s important to emphasize that these animatronics are, at their core, *children.* You lose the real tragedy of the missing kids if you only focus on them as vengeful killer robots. By giving them a moment of levity where they play with Abby, it serves as a reminder that they were once just like her, but their lives, their innocence, was stolen.

The UK/Irish reviews rolling out are really fair I think; in terms of the script, it is a pretty strange choice to neither go for a slasher movie or a goofier take on the franchise. The route taken means that its humour is sort of incidental, nod-at-the-audience nonsense, whilst it also tries to have the main character be struggling with (very long-term) trauma. Fingers crossed when we get a sequel, it has a more stable production pipeline and is more sure about the lane it's sitting in.
I went to see the first screening available in my city. Quite litterally on the bus Back home as i write this. The Moment Matthew said "I ALWAYS COME BACK" the ENTIRE Theatre erupted in Cheers. The Spring Lock Scene was fantastic, Long, Slow, Drawn out to really show How painful that shit was. No mark, As Expected, But Seeing MatPat Playing the 50's Diner Waiter Was hilarious. he did a great Job. Personally, I believe the 2nd movie Will Be about Abby, 20 Years from now, Finding out that Someone is trying to revive the horror she, Mike and Vanessa went through Viq Fazbear Frights and took a job there to "Visit her friends" and The Plot runs from there. But thats just my Theory.
Tbh, the I always come back felt so forced. They had to put it in there somewhere cause it's Afton, it's his line i get it but it felt like there were better times. Like could have had vanessa tell mike that he always comes back or something. Just felt like "oh shit we're out of time gotta get the line in"
I can See where you're Coming From, And I Do think the Pacing Was a little Off and The Ending should have been Longer And They should have used Afton More. I think It was Just the Excitement and Joy of everyone seeing the Springlock scene That made everyone Just Lose their Shit When he said it lmao. I Do Think perhaps It would have been better saved for the end, While Hes Twitching In the Backroom, Some sort of Gutteral "I Will Always Come back!" Or some shit might have been more Chilling/Effective. i do think Matthew Really killed it as Afton though, and Its a shame he wasnt In the movie More. After watching the springlock scene with full context I don’t think it’s as bad as people are saying. Realistically there wouldn’t be gushes and pools of blood coming out like in the game. He got stabbed when someone gets stabbed with the knife still inside them they don’t just start exploding blood. If they had had the end credits scene with Springtrap as the end of the springlock scene it would’ve worked better imo instead of sticking it at the end and they should’ve cut the “I always come back” line entirely imo I don’t think it worked in the context of the scene. I don’t think the scene was bad, just weirdly directed.

Well they didn’t put much emphasis on the point that he kept coming back I don’t think. Correct me if I’m wrong but the initial 5 kids were more spaced out instead of a single incident. If they had put more emphasis on the continuous murders Afton was doing it would’ve flowed better. Or adding some line of dialogue from someone saying like “you can’t hurt anyone anymore” or something like that idk I’m not a screenwriter and then have him say the line would’ve made it better imo
The Gamespot review makes a really good point; it really would not be surprising if there's a cut of this movie possible with ten or twenty more minutes of runtime that improves it a lot, giving the second half's plot much more time to breathe. Not sure that's going to happen but given it's a "for the fans" movie, as specified, and given it's this franchise, it wouldn't surprise me if we see this movie get an extended cut. There are scenes we 100% know exist and were shot that are outright missing, such as the reporter reporting on the missing kids in front of the pizzeria.
I really wouldn’t be surprised if there was at least one Afton scene that was cut. Like you said earlier, him basically exiting the film in the 2nd act is a pretty big negative and kinda throws the pacing off and makes the 3rd act seem rushed

I wanted to bring up some parallels between the movie and the games that seem kinda interesting, like it seems to confirm some things and throws some new things in the ring. NEW(ISH) IDEAS - Vanessa is William Afton’s daughter in the movie: I know this theory was already up in the air with her dad being called “Bill” in the games, and it was implied that he manipulated and abused her, but this connection seems solidified by the movie, or at least makes it explicitly clear that Vanessa and Afton are connected in some way in the games. - The Crying Child’s movie stand-in is called Garrett: So while this doesn’t necessarily confirm the Crying Child’s name, it’s worth pointing out that every other character’s parallel has the same name. William Afton, Vanessa, Michael, Abby (short for Elizabeth). So logically, a character who isn’t named in the game but is named in the movie would share the same name. Also, Scott co-wrote the script. The name Garrett was chosen deliberately. CONFIRMED EVENTS - The missing children incident took place in the 80s (mentioned by Vanessa) - Michael is the older brother (this didn’t really need conforming at this point but it’s nice to have things definitely set in stone) INTERESTING THINGS TO THINK ABOUT - The spring lock suit Abby was being forced into bears some striking similarities to Circus Baby: this is to be expected, Abby is a parallel to Elizabeth, so she’d be forced into something resembling Baby. But it does pose the question of when Circus Baby was built. Because she has spring locks in her mechanism, implying it was built on the early end of the 80s. Now we all know Sister Location is a bitch when it comes to placing it in the timeline, but this does seem like it could suggest something

I died laughing man. Me and the others in the cinema could not believe what we were seeing, I genuinely thought it was gonna be a semi-serious horror film but after that I just could not take it seriously. Like I enjoyed the film, it was fun, but the movie I struggled finding scary in any capacity though the animatronics, effects, and actors were great.
Personally I loved the film. Especially the end credits song was so awesome. Hope they release it on YouTube shortly after the movie premiers.

The actor gets... two and a bit scenes. Springtrap is shown a lot in the movie but he's only actually around being an actual murder gremlin in the last fifteen minutes or so.

Yep. It's not outright explained how this is done in the movie, either. The movie \_really\_ relies on "eh it's ghost magic, don't think too hard" as a mechanic to handwave how things work. I'd expect the two sequels will go into more of the whys.

As a movie fan, the pacing was a bit all over the place, stuff came out of nowhere and things just seem jolted together. As a fan of the games, I had a lot of fun and some of the scenes made me so fucking happy. That diner scene gave me the biggest smile. Still messed some things up and I was slightly confused about how some things connected. I know it won't do well with the critics but I had fun and so did everyone else watching. Okay I liked the film a lot. Didn’t love it. Didn’t have high expectations, so it was exactly what I was waiting for the past 8 year. Hoped it would have been better in some aspects, but I don’t mind the direction they took it. One thing that bothers me the most is why wasn’t there a bigger thing made of >!the murder of Aunt jane? Did Golden Freddy behind the scenes dissapparate her body or something. She’d at least be reported missing at some point and Mike would be the first suspect considering the legal battle. Like she just died and nothing comes out of it? Mike and Abby just live happily ever after and theres no investigation or anything!<

I FINALLY saw it after being a fan since the first game and I understand why it’s so divisive. This movie isn’t a horror movie, but it’s also just weird. Weird structure, plot, and pacing. I loved the characters, especially the animatronics, and I really cared about what was going on, but my main gripe is that basically nothing is explained. I mean the general audience needs to at least understand WHY William is doing what he’s doing and what happened in Vanessa’s past that was so horrible, which I assume will be explained in the future…if there is one. I actually don’t think the general audience is going to like this very much, it’s not even M3GAN level of horror, it’s very light on it. Then I see why game fans won’t like it because of the lighter atmosphere and the direction they chose to take the story. I still had a fun time but I’m not sure this movie will make a mark enough to have a sequel. If they do get one, they really should ramp up the creepiness and horror (not meaning gore) while also telling a clearer story. Also, I don’t care what people say, the fort building scene was the best scene in the movie. So cute!
The Balloon Boy gag was so funny for no reason. He didn't need a bigger part in the movie, it was perfect.
Him having all three big jumpscares in the movie while all being the laughing “oh FUCK you” kind was PERFECT for BB and I’m so happy (I also liked how they updated his mouth to make him scarier and made him smaller for versatility- is it weird that I want a movie version replica now?

Things I noticed: - Diner they eat at is called Sparky’s and a Sparky animatronic is seen in the spare suits where the break-iners get stuffed into - Dream Theory book obvious reference to Dream Theory itself - Matpats name is Ness - The animatronic they try to springlock Abby into is not baby, it’s a withered Ella from the FF 1:35AM book/story - I think the electric weapon scene was a nod to fnaf 6? I don’t remember if Vanessa said controlled shock Tbh I am really not a fan of how it ended. WAYY too many things left unanswered. Why is Golden Freddy like that? How can he teleport? He is physical because the taxi gets weighed down, so he can’t be just a ghost? Why is he the main child of the five? Why didn’t Vanessa just stop her father when she had the chance? What the fuck happened to Jane’s body?!? What about the Garret subplot, it just ends after “Wow! Abby is like Garret!” then hes just forgotten about??? Like what the fuck happened to him? What was Afton’s motives? Also not a fan of the whole sleep thing. So much opportunity to explore these animatronics that is severely under-utilised for building forts and dancing and singing and cupcake only scenes… I love fnaf to bits, and everything else in the film was good. I think the springlock scene was great (I do wish it was Vanessa who activated the springlocks though not the cupcake…) but I can’t help but think the ending was severely rushed with no thought put into it. Four Sleeps At Freddys is like, average I’d say. I think there was opportunity to do so much more with what they had but for some reason didn’t.

Right so I've now seen the FNAF movie. There were I think two people watching it with me at 10am... Overall I think it's probably wise they did not lift the embargo before tomorrow; the average reviewer is not going to buy the premise at all, and the movie is 100% a for-the-fans thing, a $20m fan movie, and a good bit of income for all involved, rather than Blum and co's breakout hit five-starer. This ain't Get Out. That said it's competent, occasionally very good, and rarely boring. Its worst sin is pacing, and my hunch is that there's a lot on the cutting room floor. Raglan being AWOL in the entire second act hurts the ending a lot, and the movie never really builds up a sense of horror. You do get a proper feeling of the tragic side of the story, though - Mike and those around him suffer a lot from the pains of their past and I really liked the human characters in general. EDIT: Wrote in my notes that this is a "horror-themed experience, rather than a horror movie". Which means it does sort of fail at being FNAF1, which at the time was a very spooky game indeed.
I'm going to disagree on the reception. Cinema has been packed all day today. My screening had a great vibe. A few overheard comments from people leaving were positive. But will agree with the genre issue. I think as far as many movies go now with horror we have torture porn horror Saw, Hostel etc, Americana horror - teens go to x, killer is there because and then franchise horror - Halloween etc. This fits nicely in the video game premise with quirky elements. How it is a 15 in the UK is beyond me. Could have been PG/12 easy. Not even a Fuck or Fucking in there to raise the rating needlessly. And I'm glad it is this way as it could have been so easy to go full CGI horror bullshit. The live action animatronics really put the bigger studios to shame on effort to translate material to screen imo.
The guy who's face that got literally shredded by the cupcake, the aftermath was pretty visible when mike wakes up around the bodies, we were fairly certain that was what bumped up the rating.
I suppose I’ll play devils advocate and say that the springlock scene wasn’t that bad. Specifically, I thought the beginning of the scene when the locks were being driven into Afton where decently effective, plus I thought Lillard’s reactions to it where good. The two main problems with it were, imo: 1. There really needed to be SOME blood shown. I wasn’t expecting there to be like, guts spewing everywhere, but this was literally the perfect scene to turn up the gore and the fact that they didn’t do it really lessened the scenes impact. Even just having there be small patches of blood seeping into the suit as he writhes in agony would have been enough. 2. Lillard’s delivery of ‘I always come back‘ fell a little flat. He should have said it in a much more manic fashion imo.
why does max, hank and company break into freddys? scott cawthon rejected a couple of screenplays due to having no connection between the characters and freddys so why do they break in?? Ik im asking a lot but me and my friend have a lot of questions.

It wasn't the perfect movie, but man it was good. All the references to the games and I pointing them like the DiCaprio meme. Although I Felt that the ending felt a little rushed; I still find it enjoyable.
Fucking Balloon Boy got me all three times. God damn it.

what did you expect? a post-springlock raspy voice with a edgy tone? that's Spring**trap**'s thing specifically. dude was pierced by dozens of metal parts, and Lillard is no PJ Heywood. personally, I think it's better than it was in the games. before it was just an *"edgy phrase to just be edgy"* and in the movie it's like he's saying it out of spite, looking into the eyes of his creations and accepts his demise (by putting his mask back rather than trying to get out of the suit), knowing full well that he will surely come back.

As someone who loves the horror genre and really likes the world of fnaf this movie was utterly disappointing, I liked aspects of it and some scenes were great but the overall movie was a complete let down and I'm honestly kinda sad, it's sucks, I really wanted it to be good, but it just wasn't

I just finished watching the movie on Peacock and I just didn’t really like it all that much unfortunately :\ Some positives I liked were the general design and work put into the actual animatronics and props. I can tell lots of love was placed into those aspects of the movie. Sound effects were also pretty good in my opinion. I did also like the part where Max got bitten cleanly in half, that was a sick kill. But aside from that everything just felt so…bland? For a movie about a series with a convoluted yet interesting lore they made it kinda boring I guess? Like don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting an Oscar award nominee with this, but I just kind of expected more and all we got was a sort of by the numbers horror movie that wasn’t even all that scary. I’m sure bigger fans of the series will get more enjoyment out of this, but for me as a casual fan who mainly loves the memes surrounding the series I was just kinda whelmed.

Here are my two cents on the movie. - I love how "dream theory" was recontextualized as being a way to access memories rather than an explanation of the events of FNAF 4. - The overall feel of the film doesn't really capture the darkness and helplessness of the game's atmosphere, but it clearly wasn't supposed to be a direct recreation of the game anyhow. - The animatronics and how they behave is amazing, but it's a shame bonnie and golden freddy didn't get more screentime. - I think at least one night of the animatronics believing Mike is an intruder and trying to get into the office would've been nice. 5 nights of him sleeping on the job wasn't quite what people were expecting from a film of this game lol - Overall I'd give it a 7/10 for what it is.
Am I the only one that... didn't like it? I think the dream plot was contrived and overdone, there was so much focus on Mike's dead brother, and it felt like Matthew Lillard had a scheduling conflict and could only be in like 2 scenes, so they just wrote the movie around that. I don't know if that's true or not, but it felt like it. I don't know. I just expected more, I guess. I feel like the "going back into your dreams to try and relive your memory for more information" is a plot thread that \*could\* make an interesting movie, it just feels out of place and like such a weird choice for FNAF. And why add Vanessa? Why set the movie in a run-down, closed freddy fazbear location? Why didn't they utilize Golden Freddy, the coolest mystery of the first game? (That goddamn cupcake got more screentime than him!) So much of the game is based on the survival horror of being trapped in an enclosed space where the animatronics are getting ever closer to you, which I feel like is something that could be used... really well in a PG13 horror movie to get something genuinely scary without much gore or blood. Instead, the main character is NEVER trapped in the office, never has to conserve resources or actually do some kind of strategy to beat the animatronics. The tension just wasn't there. There were hardly any jumpscares for a movie based on a film so famous for them. It's weird, because in many ways this movie really did feel like a labor of love. The incredibly designed physical props of the animatronics, the references and cameos, and the plot that (while I wasn't a fan of!) felt like someone put a lot of time and effort into. Despite that though, there were other moments where the film felt like it was made by someone who barely even understood the FNAF lore and the reasons so many people love it. (Or at least, the reasons I loved it!) So many of the decisions felt so bizarre in that way. I didn't have high expectations coming into this film, but I had a fun time watching it with friends, and the matpat cameo made me lose my mind. I got wasted on dollaritas afterward. Overall a good night.
my deffo favourite scene was when they were making a fort with the animatronics (yes this is a real thing in the film) and the relationship abby had with the missing kids was adorable, even if they were trying to stuff her
Afraid I just didn't like it. I was on board for the more character-focused story, but the reveal that Afton took Garrett feels super contrived. Why was Afton in Nebraska taking kids? Why was Afton killing kids at all? The "power of a child's drawing" ending beat was so dumb for me. It feels like the first two acts of the film set up a load of interesting ideas and none of them paid off. Sure, Mike learns to let go of the past and focus on connecting with Abby, but that isn't very interesting by itself. Which only makes it feel worse in retrospect because SO MUCH of the runtime is dedicated to the mystery of Garrett, and basically no time toward doing what Scott's FNAF has always done best - real atmospheric horror. I didn't feel tension at any point, at the start of every scene it feels like you know what's going to happen. It just doesn't do what makes FNAF great, and it doesn't do what makes character-focused stories great either. It doesn't do anything great. I don't like it
My biggest issue is they don’t say why he’s doing it. But could be too complicated of a story to go into.

Okay, so did Jane actually die? Because if so, that’s so dumb. It’s unceremonious, especially for one of the film’s antagonists. Plus, it’s Mary Stuart FREAKING Masterson, an actual legend! They also never mention her again after that. If she did die, I’d expect Mike to bring it up at least at the end. All I’m saying is we better see her in the sequels OR we get an extended death scene for her in the deleted scenes. I loved the movie, but wow, that annoys me to no end.

the springlocking is in the movie, but it's not shown in all its gory glory. the movie handles it well though, fnaf was never really a franchise about blood and gore besides the 8-bit minigames
Doug was my favorite character, he just looked so traumatized the entire time he was on screen.
Had a mum in front of me with her kid in Full Monty Getup, when the >!Woman Got Decapitated!< she clearly didn’t know what the series was about. Kid was way into it though, good times all round.
I feel like there was so much build up of Matthew Lilliard only for the guy to get like five minutes of screen time.

I personally thought the movie was great, I was giddy and on the edge of my seat the whole way though. The only thing that bugged me was why so much footage was seemingly cut? There’s lots of footage from the trailers and security footage teaser that just didn’t appear. What happened to fixed Foxy and Shadow Freddy, the MCI news broadcast. Were these solely for marketing or what?
