A hypothesis is related to a concrete experiment where you predict a certain outcome (your hypothesis, for example that a gyroscope won't detect drift over time, that you'd expect on a rotating earth), and by doing the experiment you either prove the H0 (null hypothesis) and support your theory, or you disprove your hypothesis and observe a 15 degree per hour drift). A theory is the final explanation you can give about what something is, and flat earth is that, a "theory". Although a completely unfounded one, with no observation or data to support it, with several failed experiments not showing the expected outcome.

I don't think it's money they desire. I think Flat Earth gets them validation they crave and can't get through typical means (successful career, family, etc ...) They pretend the earth is flat. They invented a way to be experts in something. Furthermore, they've found a way to maintain it by denying any logic, evidence, proof, etc... by steadfastly claiming massive Government coverup.
