Aldis Hodge is so good and deserves to be even bigger!
For mine, he's deceased now, but Dean Stockwell had like a 70+ year career.
Most people these days know him as the original Al from Quantum Leap or Cavil from Battlestar Galactica, but he was also a child actor in the 40s, since he was 9.
This is him in [Anchors Aweigh](https://youtu.be/zmM17N8clRU) with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.
Yep he started back in the 40s with the studio system, for MGM IIRC.
The Boy With The Green Hair &/or Anchors Aweigh were the first roles I remember for him but I'm a sucker for old movies.
I saw The Boy with the Green Hair jewel case in a library, and I thought "Who was the big star which caused this strangely low-budget-cover movie to get re-released? Aaaahhhh!"
Edit: that kid in Anchors Aweigh is the most adorable little Al I’ve ever seen.
Tommy Lee Jones débuted in Love Story (1970) as Ryan O'Neil's Harvard roommate.
The movie and the book is based on two Harvard students, Tommy Lee and HIS roommate, Al Gore.
Lots of actors make careers out of playing the same basic character. Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Keanu Reeves. Even Harrison Ford doesn't *really* vary his performance much from role to role, with only a few notable exceptions.
Harrison Ford is in a show called Shrinking (Apple TV+), a workplace comedy with Jason Segel… and he’s hilarious in it.
Not like charmingly funny, but like, funny funny.
I spotted Joe Morton - best known as Dr. Miles Dyson in Terminator 2, or his roles in Eureka, Brother From Another Planet, or Justice League - in an episode of M\*A\*S\*H\*. Turns out he's been acting since 1970.
I'm surprised that's all you know him from because he shows up all over the place. He is truly excellent in everything, and I'm glad he finally got some formal recognition of that from the Emmys for Scandal.
There have been a bunch of occasions where I watch a movie that I saw a bunch of times when I was younger and I'm completely surprised to find Jack Black in it. I just never noticed him pre-High Fidelity/ Tenacious D.
And it isn't small cameos like Biodome, he had major roles in Cable Guy and Mars Attacks! that I completely remember someone other than him playing.
Elle Fanning, I guess I just never processed the fact that the little girl that looks very similar to Dakota Fanning and has the same last name is her sister. So once i finally used my brain I realized that she has been doing stuff since 2002
It is 2019 or so…
Nothing:
Absolutely nothing:
My brain: the Demetrius to Christian Bale’s Lysander in a that 1999 Midsummer Night's Dream was McNulty! Dominic West, that is.
Another actor I saw for the first time in that movie was Sam Rockwell.
Chris Evans. Guy has been around since the early 2000s and was in the 2005 Fantastic Four flick as Human torch and only became really famous with Captain America
Bokeem Woodbine.
While scrolling through the free movies on Tubi, I ran across a cover of Jason's Lyric. I thought it might have been Jada Pinkett, so I clicked on it to view the cast, and not only was it her, but I saw that Bokeem was a star as well. I was surprised that I only noticed him around Fargo and then started to recognize him in other roles, like an X-Files or Massive Genius in The Sopranos, then Spider-Man: Homecoming.
1994 to 2015 before I caught on.

You all know about TV’s Uncle Fester was Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid? Jackie Coogan’s parents spent all of his money so they wrote the Jackie Coogan law to stop parents from robbing their child actor’s bank account.
Ryan Gosling worked his way up on minor kids' TV shows. Helen Hunt had ten credits by 1977. Matt Dillon started starring in movies when he was 14 (Over The Edge).
Mahershala was in a ton of movies before I really saw him as the incredible actor he is today.
I remember him from The 4400 and that was like a decade before Moonlight, never give up I guess!
He just needed his moment. He’s one of if not my favorite actor I love him and I’m glad he got the chance to show what he can do
he was pretty outstanding there.
And SVU!
Excellent actor!
Diego Luna and Michael Peña.
Michael Peña has quietly been around two decades and been in so many things.
[удалено]
Kickin Wing is Adam Beach...
L Ron Hubbard adaptations?
I was really surprised recently when Michael Peña turned up in Gone in Sixty Seconds! That film came out at the turn of the millennium.
Real ones remember Diego Luna in Y tu mamá también
And Gael Garcia Bernal! Such a wonderfully horny film for 20 year old me to see for the first time.
ohman...that movie also gave us Gael Garcia Bernal!!
The year before that was the first time I saw him in Amores Perros. Wow, Mexican Cinema used to hit different back then…
I learned not too long ago that Jason Bateman has been getting regular acting gigs since childhood.
Yep, I knew he was a child star but first thing I’d ever known him from was Arrested Development. I’m almost 33 for context
I am also 33 and also first encountered him in Arrested Development.
Hehe. I few of us kino connoisseurs know him for the underrated indie flick “Teen Wolf Too”. /s
Yeah my parents knew him as a child actor lmao. Every time I see one of his older roles it trips me up.
Yes. Teen Wolf Too was already years into his career.
No Silver Spoons fans here?

You mean “Valerie” and then “the hogans,” where he played the oldest child. Family matters starred Urkel and the cop from die hard.
Reginald VelJohnson as Carl Winslow, also currently appearing as “TV Dad” in Progressive Insurance commercials.
He’s always the cop from Die Hard to me.
Ok, but Carl Winslow never shot a kid.
I first saw him in Teen Wolf 2 and Necessary Roughness…both in the theater, lol
Viggo Mortensen was in *Witness* a movie from 1985
And a movie about Yakuza in LA.
My first Viggo was G.I Jane.
Aldis Hodge is so good and deserves to be even bigger! For mine, he's deceased now, but Dean Stockwell had like a 70+ year career. And the OG Dr. Yueh - Dune 1984 was almost 40 years ago!
Oh Dean Stockwell. I saw The Boy With Green Hair a long time ago on TV and was amazed that he was in Battlestar Galactica still going.
Yep he started back in the 40s with the studio system, for MGM IIRC. The Boy With The Green Hair &/or Anchors Aweigh were the first roles I remember for him but I'm a sucker for old movies.

Raymond Cruz (Tuco Salamanca) had some roles in the 90s in stuff like Clear and Present Danger, Under Siege and Murder She Wrote. Guy's 61!
I remember seeing him in an episode of X-Files and thinking oh snap it's Tuco!
Huh, didn't know that one. That's probably where Vince Gilligan met him. I know it's where he met Cranston.
I still remember him from Alien Resurrection
I remember seeing him start getting bigger parts in stuff in the '90s and being like "good for him!" as his face was already familiar
[удалено]
Jack Black was also in an episode of the x files with Giovanni Ribisi!
Cable Guy, too. Or when he played one of the bullies in that 90’s rollerblading movie called Airborn, which also had a young Seth Green.
Jack Black playing Pitfall in an Atari commercial.
[1982 PITFALL! Commercial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA4V-n8Ft3g)
i cant get over the walt disney kurt russel connection. like, what does it even mean? why did disney think of him?
Yeah he was a baby in Gillian’s island
Brian Cranston. He always randomly pops up as a bit character in older shows/movies.
Like Seinfeld's dentist
he converted just for the jokes!
And an episode of x files!
I read that as - Schindlers dentist.
Tommy Lee Jones has looked the same since the mid 70s
Tommy Lee Jones débuted in Love Story (1970) as Ryan O'Neil's Harvard roommate. The movie and the book is based on two Harvard students, Tommy Lee and HIS roommate, Al Gore.
And throughout that entire time, the guy never learned how to act. He just...is.
Sure he can act. He acted like he didn’t hate working with Jim Carey 😆
Is Batman Forever the only Tommy Lee Jones movie where he isn't playing Tommy Lee Jones?
😆 it’s the only one I’ve seen
Never watch the rest and believe that he usually acts like a chimp.
Like the one from Nope
His role in Under Seige is different than most.
Nominated for a Razzie Award for his performance.
Haha he still pretended to be happy beside him
Lots of actors make careers out of playing the same basic character. Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Keanu Reeves. Even Harrison Ford doesn't *really* vary his performance much from role to role, with only a few notable exceptions.

I have only watched Scandal with him where He played a mustache twirling villain and He carried the show
I'm surprised that's all you know him from because he shows up all over the place. He is truly excellent in everything, and I'm glad he finally got some formal recognition of that from the Emmys for Scandal.
I remember him from Brother from another planet but 1970? Dang
Gloria Stuart, the old lady in *Titanic*, had roles going all the way back to the start of the sound era.
Michael Shannon was in Groundhog Day (1993)!!
Wrestlemania tickets!
Ha! I've been a fan of Aldis since the show Leverage. Glad he's finally breaking through.
Today I remembered out of no where that christian bale was a kid actor on empire of the sun, that is a 90s movie or so
Even older, 1987.
i got the "or so" part right haha thx ;)
np :)
This is Newsies / Swing Kids erasure and I will not stand for it.
care to explain? didnt understand a single thing...
"Newsies" is a 1992 Disney musical about child labor strike starring a singing and dancing Christian Bale
:o ohh wow, that sounds like a gem worth seeing haha
Happy Friday
Pedro Pascal! Before being the Mandalorian, Joel and Oberyn Martell He was in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Tom hardy was in black hawk down,Vin diesel was in saving private ryan
Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbinder were in Band Of Brothers too.
Feel like every white actor in their entire genrationnshows up in thr background of Band of Brothers. Even Jimmy Fallon.
James McAvoy, Dominic Cooper… the cast is deep.
The other week I was watching Danny Boyle's Sunshine, and I didn't realize Benedict Wong had been active in the early 2000s.
For a movie that sort of flies below the radar, that cast is stacked. Good ass movie too.
He was in an episode of the X-files
He was in Waterworld also
Neverending Story 3. Not that I’ve seen it.
Clint Eastwood's first acting role was in Revenge of the Creature in 1955, 68 years ago. I'm sure someone can beat it but not many.
Was creature, can confirm.
username checks out
Christian Bale. I just found out he was the lead of the 1996 Newsies movie
He starred in Spielberg's, Empire of the Sun in 1987. Very good movie too by the way.
Melissa McCarthy was in Go (1999)
She was cute! Saw it two weeks ago.
Barely, but she had a bigger role in the equally good Pumpkin (2002)
Elle Fanning, I guess I just never processed the fact that the little girl that looks very similar to Dakota Fanning and has the same last name is her sister. So once i finally used my brain I realized that she has been doing stuff since 2002
It is 2019 or so… Nothing: Absolutely nothing: My brain: the Demetrius to Christian Bale’s Lysander in a that 1999 Midsummer Night's Dream was McNulty! Dominic West, that is. Another actor I saw for the first time in that movie was Sam Rockwell.

I...think you're thinking of someone else. Hackman wasn't one of The Little Rascals.
You are correct. I amend my contribution and suggest: John Leguizamo. This guy shows up everywhere.
Jackie Cooper, who played Perry White in Superman '78, was in Our Gang; maybe you were thinking of him?
Chris Evans. Guy has been around since the early 2000s and was in the 2005 Fantastic Four flick as Human torch and only became really famous with Captain America
One of my coworkers near Concord MA was his middle school English teacher. Talks about doing plays with little Chrissy.
BD Wong was in Karate Kid 2.
He was also had a big role in Dead Presidents as a brutal Vietnam vet who later becomes a preacher. That movie came out in 1995.
John Spencer from the West Wing was on the Patty Duke Show. 🤯
Holy shit, that was Aldis Hodge in Die Hard !
That one Asian guy who plays the Asian guy in everything has been acting since the fifties. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hong

You all know about TV’s Uncle Fester was Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid? Jackie Coogan’s parents spent all of his money so they wrote the Jackie Coogan law to stop parents from robbing their child actor’s bank account.
Jim Carrey was the lead in the 1985 comedy Once Bitten
The other Baldwin, Adam Baldwin, debuted in My Bodyguard, 1980. Ben Foster and Shia LeBeouf are adorable children in Freak and Geeks.
Ryan Gosling worked his way up on minor kids' TV shows. Helen Hunt had ten credits by 1977. Matt Dillon started starring in movies when he was 14 (Over The Edge).
Jurnee Smollett-Bell. Didn't know she has been acting since the 90s.
Jackie Chan. All the way back to the Bruce Lee era. Still doing his own stunts
Donnie Yen has been doing kung fu films since the 80s.
