Trixxx87

I am pretty sure his speech is the intro to the game.

Gilliph

Agreed, especialy since thats the first quote Nate makes when the character creation screen starts.

bayless210

Immediately followed by Norma cheering him on. I don’t remember exactly what they say but he was definitely reciting his speech

Freddy2909

"War never changes" "You're gonna drop 'em dead at the Veterans hall tonight, hun" "you think?" "Absolutely, now get ready and stop hogging the mirror"

BaronAaldwin

"Let me just sliiide right in."

[deleted]

Is my nose too big?

poochlips

*Roguishly handsome or handsomely roguish?*

theinfecteddonut

[Awkwardly smiles]

[deleted]

😂😂😂

KnownTimelord

"My turn big guy."

ThatDude744

As a modded fallout player, these lines are permanently embedded in my memory.

Freddy2909

Same, I heard those lines like 200 times. I haven't even played for like 4 years now and i still know exactly how those voice lines Sound like

ForwardUntoFate

For real, that and the intro for Skyrim!

BUR6S

*Hey you, you’re finally awake.*

howling_meteor

You were trying to cross the border, like the rest of us.

snack-dad

You're gonna drop 'em dead at the Jorrvaskr hall tonight, hun

Terminusaquo

Unpatched Skyrim is better with the hilarious bugs in the intro, wouldn't be a Bethesda game without them. That and the dragons flying backwards on the PS4 version 🤣

katmonday

I've only just started playing skyrim for the first time, I'm on ps4 and haven't seen backwards flying dragons yet, but I'll be on the lookout!

Terminusaquo

I think I got that wrong, it's PS3 and Xbox 360 that had that issue. It's been patched now so you wouldn't see it anyway

Cornelius1807

?

Catsniper

I think because modded players often use alternate starts, which activate after character customization, while a lot of vanilla players just keep a save right before leaving the vault to reuse

Juxen

As iconic as: "Hear that? The guards are coming. For you! Te he ha ha ha haaa!" "Baurus? Lock that door behind us." Or: "Hey. It's you. You're finally awake."

theangrypragmatist

"Stand up. There you go. You were dreaming. I heard them say we've reached Morrowind. I'm sure they'll let us go." "You've finally arrived, but our records don't show from where."

69ingSquirrels

>Norma Lol

bayless210

Oh lol. Didn’t realize it autocorrected

BearAndDeerIsBeer

Along with the fact that if you’re playing as him and find a microphone in a certain location he will very somberly say the line again as memory of the speech he never got the chance to give

lvbuckeye27

Is it the veterans hall where all the super Mutants come out of the woodwork if the air raid siren goes off?

BearAndDeerIsBeer

Yeah there’s a blind guy in there and when you kill him the mic is right in front of him

lvbuckeye27

Sweet, thanks!

NateDaNinja24

Am Nate. Can confirm.

Meatsim001

Damn good observation.

Codingale

Pretty sure if you go to the veterans hall he says something right? Could be misremembering

Seoripul

If you interact with a mic in main hall, your character(Nate or Nora) says “War… war never changes…”, with deep sorrows.

1RatQueen1

I'm pretty sure the mic is only there for Nate, Nora would have no reason to say anything since she wasn't army and it wasn't her speech.

fradrig

But it was her husbands army and speech. She just wants for him to give the speech that he never got the chance to give. So she does it for him. I think it's a nice touch.

1RatQueen1

The mic isn't even there for Nora tho right? I played Nate my first few times and the mic was there and Nora since then and I never see the mic

TheWritingSniper

It's there for both Nate & Nora - you can see [here](https://youtu.be/3GWZ2UCtH-E?t=25).

fradrig

It is definitely there. I went and did it a few hours ago as Nora. She says it very sadly, so it's very obvious to me that she remembering Nate by doing it.

Truckengineer

Wow 40 downvote, thats pretty wild.

1RatQueen1

Just for saying what my own game does, because we all know Fallout is the most perfect game with no bugs whatsoever lmaoo, gotta love when the hivemind strikes

UncleCarp

You are mistaken. The mic is there for Nora as well and she will also say the "War never changes" line.

1RatQueen1

That's so weird cuz I've never seen it, I even specifically went there looking for it once to check and never saw it and assumed it was just for Nate's character

UncleCarp

Well, here's the part from an old video of mine, in case you want to see/hear it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRov1E3bDRY&t=801s

Robbbg

well when nora says it you can hear more melancholy in her voice

RaevynSkyye

That's arguable. She can use power armor without any training. And she has VATS before getting the pip boy. But it was his speech. So I don't see why it would be her line

lxxTBonexxl

I mean I’m sure if Nate wrote or practiced the speech at all he would have showed her at least once

Numinak

Huh, I never found that. Interesting

MrRandom2139

He says the line "war never changes"

Jr_Mao

Damn, I never realized it'd be the *same* veteran hall. Which of course yes.

Ulirius

This is true, if you go to the veteran's hall, after and use the mic he says the the opening line "War, war never changes."

Gilliph

Re-listening to the intro. I kinda wonder what direction the speech was going for. Like a move against having a war or impending fear of its inevitability.

[deleted]

Probably a bit of both given I have known several vets and they always are ready to fight even if they would prefer to find a more amicable and diplomatic solution. Any soldier/warrior/etc. worth their salt hates war even if it give them meaning.

garrusvakarian396

"I love peace but if violence may come let it be in my time so my children may experience peace" and "I'd rather be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war" I'm paraphrasing of course but these quotes and many like them were almost mantras in my family my dad uncle and first cousin all joined the 82nd airborne together in desert storm and Panama and I served six years reserves myself

[deleted]

garrusvakarian396

Hence the sudden and seemingly random " but that's offensive!!!!" Wave that came about a year or two ago weak people having nothing but weak things to bitch about

Thecrayonbandit

Gen x are the most annoying generation to me I mean gen y has just been fucked economically automatically but gen x seems more spoiled rotten than any other generation I am sure a lot of gen z have experienced hard times considering a lot of them had to stay home for their senior years in high school because of COVID

lvbuckeye27

You actually know some Gen-X people? Those Latchkey kids are the forgotten generation. I should know. I'm one of them. The boomers are the most spoiled (and selfish) generation possibly in world history, and it isn't close. They pissed away their children's futures, AND their grandchildren's futures. Hell, they loved their hedonism so much that they made it legal to kill their children before they were even born.

Thecrayonbandit

forgotton Generation? do you ever hear of Gen Y? I stand by my statment, Gen X has already had a President

Thecrayonbandit

They hate it and miss it all at the same time it’s weird it can be a hell of a lot of fun at times and the most traumatic thing imaginable

Zrouts

I want to agree with you so bad because the opening is amazing but that would mean his speech is a basic history lesson to a bunch of vets who, more than likely, know what happened too. I’m on the side of it being left to interpretation. What if my vault dweller is a total asshole that play through? Or a goofy guy who makes jokes about everything? Edit: for sausage fingers

Cartmann13

That’s it, I’m pretty sure you can go to the Veteran’s Hall and give the speech to nobody

Trixxx87

I know when you go there he said war never changes. Is there a podium he can give it to?

Cartmann13

I thought it was you go to a microphone and he says the whole speech but it might just be him saying war never changes, this is all second hand knowledge from me so I might’ve misremembered it

[deleted]

We'll, shyte. I NEVER thought of that!!!!

TheUnspeakableHorror

The Intro cinematic was his speech. https://youtu.be/4NkHQs7ann4?t=30 He was practicing it in the mirror, which leads into character creation.

alexxerth

Yep, you can even go to the place where you were supposed to be speaking and actually give a bit of the speech. Couple centuries late, but better late than never.

ChristIsBetter

Wait what do you mean? There's a veterans hall you can visit?

-GI_BRO-

It’s the 115 fraternal post I think

EnergyTurtle23

And if you walk up to the microphone on the stage (as Nate) he’ll say the War Never Changes line, most likely because it reminds him of the speech he was going to give there that night.

_SomeRedditUser

It works as Nora too

EnergyTurtle23

Oh okay I wasn’t sure since I’ve only seen it done with Nate but yeah there’s multiple hints about the intro being Nate’s practice speech. Also it’s confirmed that the Fraternal 115 is the Veteran’s Hall in question because there’s a terminal entry where they talk about what an honor it is to host Nate for the event and I believe it even mentions him by name, but subbing in whatever the player changed Nate’s name to at the beginning.

ChrdeMcDnnis

We here at the Veteran’s Hall are *honored* to host Bumblefuck 9000 for this evening’s event.

Wyndyr

Mr.Fuckface!

-GI_BRO-

Actually it says like that he’s going to do a speech in concord at the museum of freedom(?) and they’d want him to do a speech at the fraternal post

FixBayonetsLads

And THAT was because originally Nora was also going to be a veteran. She has unused voices lines and there is a model for her diploma listing her as a JA.

HelpfulAmoeba

I like that Nora is a lawyer, not a soldier. I've always played Nora because her journey would be so much harder without a soldier's skills at the start. I also try to make the fairest decisions because I imagine she has a strong sense of justice. EDIT: Okay, fine, I also prefer seeing her butt instead of Nate's when in 3rd person.

Electronic_Style2043

i like prefer seeing nate’s 😔😭

69ingSquirrels

I like that the phrasing of the edit makes it seem like a bunch of people got you to admit that you like Nora’s butt… but there’s not actually any comments under yours, so it was essentially an internal dialogue you had with yourself lmao

jaffadue

SPOILERS: I played as Nora in my first playthrough. As I stormed to fort with my pistol, in order to kill Kellogg "pistol packin' mama" started playing. It was a beautiful moment that's caused me to always play as her.

lvbuckeye27

I like Overseer MacNamara from Vault 81's butt. Is that weird? She's got a dump truck. 👀

[deleted]

That's sick!

ChristIsBetter

WAIT YOU JUST BLEW MY MIND. Wow, I think you're right but I never put that together!!

EnergyTurtle23

This is definitely the answer, Bethesda set this up really well with the mirror scene imo, Nora’s line about knocking them dead at the Veteran’s Hall immediately after the intro speech hints at this. Then if you use the mic at the Fraternal 115 Nate/Nora will speak the last line of the speech into the microphone.

pzamza

This is amazing!

ambivalent_boone

I never knew that

marmaladesalad

*sighs* FINE I’ll start another playthrough

crash_over-ride

How have I never seen that?

ModernPlebeian_314

You literally watched the whole of it when you play the game the very first time.

PoorFishKeeper

Nora even comments about the speech when character creation opens.

ambivalent_boone

The intro?? I never thought of it like that 🤔

ZackWells1234

Intro and the end credits, I think 🤔 I don't fully remember but I'm pretty sure when the game ends he finishes his speech Edit: nevermind I'm a goofy goober, I watched the cutscenes on yt and realized I pulled that out my ass

crash_over-ride

I learned that today, I somehow must have skipped it.

SunDance967

It was gonna be the speech he practiced in the mirror for the intro

T00thl3ss22

Something about war never changing.

el_sime

You can find the speech in a terminal somewhere in Cambridge, if memory serves

ChristIsBetter

I'd be super interested in finding out where that was!

MortalWombat2000

Also you can find the Veteran's Hall in game and your character will comment on the location Edit: it's Fraternal Post 115 in Cambridge

CliffCutter

If you interact with the microphone there you’re character will say “war never changes”, even if tou play as Nora

Orion-The-King

Nate is a war hero in canon

d400022210

You can find the Cutting Room Floor find is speech. Just like starting cutscene.

69ingSquirrels

??

Tuburonpereze

This true but only entering super human building device

jrdineen114

Judging by how unbelievably insane Nate's combat abilities can get within just a few days after being frozen, I'd say that he was, at the very least, very well-respected and probably had a very decorated career.

84theone

IIRC, the veterans hall terminal refers to him as a war hero, I also believe there’s an award in the house at the start that implies he was at the battle of Anchorage. So probably has a fair amount of combat experience.

creator712

The fraternal post termial says nate was a decorated war hero So yeah

RemyStrange1

I'm guessing high rank enlisted, if he is received well enough for everyone to love his speech, and I would assume he'd give a very nationalist speech, which would involve anticommunism.

Wassuuupmydudess

He seemed like enlisted, the uniform in his closet was not any type of dress uniform. Although it seems like the only uniforms they have are combat fatigues

BrokenEyebrow

Yeah that's a strange one. There would be several types of not fatigues. My guess is an office duty as well as a dress. Current us army is going back to that after many years of only a fatigue and a dress.

joybuzz

The amount of scrutiny you all are putting into this game made by Bethesda is more than a little silly. They're not going to make dress uniform assets for 1 pre-war closet for the first 3 minutes of the game.

Wassuuupmydudess

Yet they make 3 dozen models of pre war items for a 5 minute sequence

joybuzz

This is a dumb argument. I'm saying they're not going to get that detail oriented in the sequence, you're saying they shouldn't put any effort at all. There's a difference between buttons and ribbons on a jacket in a closet for implied lore on a *supposed* to be mostly blank slate character versus cars, houses, people, streets, etc. not looking like a burned up apocalyptic nightmare. I didn't know that needed to be said...

69ingSquirrels

That’s not what he’s saying at all, but… K

BrokenEyebrow

Mmmm imma have a good example, just give me a bit to play the game again.

Wassuuupmydudess

Legitimately never said that but ok pal

Mist_Rising

>Although it seems like the only uniforms they have are combat fatigues Even enlisted can have dress uniforms too, so that just because Bethesda didn't want to add an outfit nobody ever really see.

garrusvakarian396

You actually get your dress uniform in basic I should know I technically couldn't fit in mine for 2 years because of it I was really malnourished when I joined inweighed maybe 100 pounds soaking wet so that's what I weighed when they tailored my dress blues then after about a solid year of working out and not being starved I weighed a whopping 135 of solid muscle but now everything I took a sharp breath in my blues I could hear threads straining lol

Wassuuupmydudess

I know about enlisted getting dress uniforms, but I’m saying Bethesda didn’t add dress uniforms just combat fatigues

ChristIsBetter

Agreed. My gut says nationalist, since it sounds like he's trying to appeal to a wide audience of the times.

Punkgender

i mean it’s literally an anti war speech, it’s the opening cinematic

That_Lore_Guy

The intro is his speech, or at least part of it.

ItsYaBoiTavino34

It was the speech at the beginning, but now that I think about it, it could be interpreted either way, especially by a society still hyped up on "THE COMMIES ARE COMING" mentality

BlueJDMSW20

There's cut content of the speech he WANTED to give vs the edited version we all know. But iirc it got cut from the game. But it was in an archive or old computer in their house. Oxhorn does a bit about it, what was the speech HE WANTED TO GIVE, and it was a lot more doomsayer iirc.

ChristIsBetter

Very interesting, I'll look into that!

misterhamtastic

Who left the pack of cigarettes?

BEEBLEBROX_INC

Shaun. It's how you know he's a baddie...

scud121

I have him down as SNCO in my head, old and experienced enough to be cynical, young enough that his wife's just qualified as a lawyer. Since I use Militarised Minutemen, I console a minuteman uniform when I reach home, switch it to DPM, give him WO1 tags, and infantry badges.

Conquering_Donkey

Nate could be anywhere from a 17 year old out on medical discharge, to a 60 year old grizzled veteran

UnnamedRedditPoster

but one constant is that he has no speech perks since he is level 1 so this speech was always going to be terrible

TheTechnik

Damn if that Vault-Tec rep hadn’t shown up we’d be going in with 1 for each SPECIAL point.

5yearoldrexrex111

Now that sounds like an interesting playthrough

Artix31

He is a soldier from a long line of soldiers, he was going to give the war never changes speech

Virtalen

Go to fraternal post 115 in Cambridge for a little Easter egg with this speech.

yookhan

Neither, he wanted Blamco brand Mac N' Cheese in every school lunch nationwide!

CantuM95

Still blows my mind how the Veterans Hall was basically just going to use Nate and his speech to boost publicity and profits. The disrespect haha.

RioSheesh

Nate talking at the beginning of the game is his speech

CliffCutter

Either way I like to play it like he was running for Governor because it meshes well with how much I focus on settlement building

QuintonFrey

Yes

TheArcticThing

💀

TheTechnik

The War Never Changes speech

itschips

doesnt he say the speech at the government building with the one blind super mutant? or was it just one line of the speech? cause iirc that was the place he was going to give it

Bryce1489

He just says the one line war never changes through the mic, the opening to the game is his speech

Mission_Diamond_7855

You can find his speech at the frat outpost

MangOrion2

When the intro cinematic fades into the character creation screen, we see Nate speaking the last line into the mirror. A common way to practice a speech. The speech he was going to give was his voiceover during that intro cinematic.

Phantom_61

If you’re playing as Nate and you go to the veterans hall and step up to the mic he repeats part of the opening. The opening we hear is him rehearsing his speech.

[deleted]

Lord having always played as Nora that screenshot was so weird to me

darh1407

She just haves more charisma

Ragingbull444

How? They both have identical dialogue. She’s a lawyer and he’s a veteran so they’re both on similar levels of professions you wouldn’t consider to be very social

DapperMayCry

Epicnate says we can find it on a terminal somewhere

KulaanDoDinok

Can’t you find it in-game?

Blue_avoocado

If you go to the Veteran’s Hall he says something like “war, war never changes” i think ( please correct me if I’m wrong )

skeletonbuyingpealts

It was literally the opening

SkritzTwoFace

It’s the intro, you can also go there and deliver the speech to an empty room if you want iirc.

Ragingbull444

His speech is the whole “War never changes” speech, he’s essentially just giving a personal piece about his experience with war

scholarlysacrilege

If you go to the veteran's hall in-game and go to the podium Nate will say the last part of the intro, showing that the intro cinematic is his speech. It's also the place you can find the unique enemy dead-eye, the blind super mutant.

SuperDoodooHead

I always made his charisma real low too lol

Coggs362

If I had to guess (from personal experience), he sounds like a junior NCO (Corporal/Sergeant). He speaks about it on a deeply personal level like he knows the loss that comes with leadership of being in sustained close contact.

NitzMitzTrix

I think that you can give it in Faelnuli(no idea how it's called) Hall

EvenWallsComeDown83

Faneuille Hall?

NitzMitzTrix

YES

lvbuckeye27

Not that one. It's in Fraternal Post 115 or whatever, in Cambridge. :)

NitzMitzTrix

Oh ok then

Seer434

You think you have to be high command to be asked to give a speech at a VFW in a suburb?

Masterful-Burner

I like to think my version of Nate had no clue what the fuck he was doing due to him being a drunkard, he was hungover on that fateful day. He was dishonorably discharged for dosing up on chems and booze when he was deployed and became a one man army, a war machine, but when it was found out how he was unbelievably high they pinned medals on him and kicked him out

lvbuckeye27

Lol, I'm playing SS2 right now, and every time there's a Gunner attack on one of my settlements, I'm eating ALL the drugs, because wtf. My settlers are all decked out in Heavy Combat Armor and max damage modded automatic M4s, and they're still pretty worthless, so I have to take on like 32 Gunner Majors and Legendary Gunner Colonels, armed with Gatling Lasers, Tesla Rifles, Gauss Rifles, and Simonov 20mm antitank guns. And since I start chucking frag grenades like my life depends on it (it does) and using a full auto explosive HK MP5 (mod version of Spray and Pray, basically) I inevitably kill one of the settlers, which causes all of THEM to turn on me as well, and I'm quick saving every 3 seconds, and cursing myself for killing one of my own people. That's NOT good for settlement morale.

Masterful-Burner

I wanna play ss2 chapter 2 but i cant, i play on xbox and i dont have enough space for my other mods

Ribbles78

Man I Never thought about that

nedennnn-nedennnnn

nate have a honor thing for a anchorge maybe for this ı dont now in the start 2077 near of door

kthxbyy

Some say the opening cinematic is actually Nate practicing his speech in the mirror.

Thecrayonbandit

Anti commie is pro peace

fl00r_gang_yeah

The intro

AbjectDisaster

The real speech was "ravioli ravioli, give me the formuoli."

Crucalus

People are saying his speech is the intro, which seems to be the case, but why? Why is his speech just him giving a run down of the lore which the veterans likely already know?

ChristIsBetter

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. The only real point of the intro is Nate saying that he feels afraid, and that his time in the army taught him that war never changes. Everything else is a history lesson. Feels weird to have your whole speech be summed up as "I'm scared guys"

pinkrobotlala

I play a female character, but once I saw a mic in-game I just spontaneously gave my own speech and my husband thought I was a little crazy. I absolutely accepted an award

xxA2C2xx

What? His speech is the introduction scene to the game lol

[deleted]

"SOME.... BAHDY WANCE TOLD ME THE WORLD WAS GONNA ROLL ME"

[deleted]

"now, the Lord said a whole lot of hibbldybibbldyflubbldybibbly... But had he ever really _done_ anything for any of us? Has he ever put a jaguar xjr in my driveway? Has he ever given any of my enemies the herpes?" Turns out, Nate's an asshole.

stretcharach

Let the sin begin!

[deleted]

Say "Mr Beefy!"

Urinatorul

"anti-commie" lmao

ScrewYourMilkBag

No idea but he should have started it with “war never changes”, I can’t quite put my finger on it but it has a certain ring to it y’know?

Charlie-VH

War never changes

LucaBC_

That should've been how you choose his SPECIALs. Rereading the draft of the speech, you choose the specials one at a time and you rewrite that part of the speech accordingly, or reread.

tophutti

Wait what?

Herozival

Probably the concept of how war never changes so yeah

donmichael11

I think there's a location in the game you can visit that has a microphone you can interact with. This microphone has that speech. I don't remember the location though

_french_pig_

What is for sure is that he was going to say War never changes, If i'm not wrong if you go to Veteran's Hall you can interact with the microphone that on there an Nate will say that, not sure if Nora say it too.

FrostytigerC-137

I believe if you go to the veterans hall, you can actually find his whole speech on the podium

XGAMER007RO

If you go there you can still give the speech and Nate just says "War never changes".

TheEnclaveEyebot

The speech was the intro to the game. And there’s a place in the commonwealth where if you press the microphone, he says the line he “War never changes” which lines up with the intro of the game.

sk3tchers

Pretty sure it was the intro

bltburglar

The speech is the one from the opening game as evidenced by a microphone at Fraternal Post 115 in Cambridge leading the player to recite the opening line when interacted with. According to terminals there Nate was a “decorated war hero” that would likely bring funds to the Fraternal Post so that’s why he was going to give a speech there.

ThrowTheFlag

Fraternal Post 115, baby.

Butler-Sanders

It’s the Intro to the game for sure. Cuz when you visit the veterans hall he says “War. War never changes.”

metalgearsmiffy

For my first character he was going to tell the country about all the war crimes he committed in Canada and how ashamed he feels.
